Has Anyone Kept Their Surgery A Secret?
tuhok1591 replied to Dtrain84's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was just sleeved 4/17/17 no told a handful of family & friends. There are some people that I know will ask how I lost the weight and I plan on telling them that I have been working very hard watching what I eat and exercising. That is it! It really is none of their business and it is those that will think I took the easy way out. It is definitely not easy and I don't feel I have to defend my decision to them. My family & friend's that I did tell have been very supportive. A few are constantly wanting updates and I may have to just say "enough" when they ask how much I have lost this week. The reflection on the scale does not accurately represent the NSV I see in the mirror. -
Sorry very new what is nsv

Silly Success Story....
ireallywannabthin replied to ☠carolinagirl☠'s topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
That's not a silly success story.. that's a huge accomplishment.. a NSV (non-scale victory)!! That is one of those items on my bucket list of weight loss that I want to accomplish also! That's wonderful...enjoy every moment of fitting comfortably in those pants! -
That tunafish could taste so unbelievably good and that I could get full on half a cup of it!!!!!!!!! I broke the rules by 12 hours and had my first food (mushy) tonight. My tastebuds were dancing!!!!!!!!!!! You would have thought I was eating steak! I did take my time and ate as slowly as I could for being famished LOL. I chewed chewed and chewed until it was completely pulverized, and then I would wait periodically to see how I felt before proceeding. I stopped at about a half a cup and I probably could have had more but I didn't want to push it especially my first meal. Tomorrow morning before we go on our charity ride I will have an egg, two if I can get it down. Again, I don't want to push it, especially right before going on a ride. I also had an NSV! We went by Open Road Leathers to look for some new chaps for me as my old ones (the ones I bought in November!) were getting way loose on me, especially around the legs. Now, you have to know that they don't size chaps like regular clothes. Don't know why but they run WAY small. So the chaps I got in November were 6X (ugh) despite the fact that I was actually 2X at the time. Well, today I got into 4X chaps!!! Two whole sizes! I purposely got them nice and tight so that I would be able to wear them for a while before having to get another pair when I lose more weight. I normally wouldn't even bother getting something like this until I have lost all my weight but I wear my chaps even during the summer as it keeps the engine heat from burning my legs. Oh! I took off the steri strips on the three small incisions today. They were starting to come off anyway and they were annoying me. One of them probably wasn't quite ready to come off but I just put Neosporin on it and covered it with a bandaid. It will be fine in a couple of days. The other two, my port and the big blob of cotton in my belly button are under waterproof tape and okay like they are. Dr. Cywes wanted them to stay on for two weeks. I'll see what those look like then. I did a lot of running around today, brushed down the pool, washed my motorcycle, did a load of laundry, emptied the dishwasher, pulled some weeds and stuff. So I am definitely feeling back to my normal self with the exception of some isolated and periodic soreness in the muscles where my port is. I'm very excited about eating real food again. I can't even begin to explain! I feel like my journey has really begun today. I am starting to eat like a bandster and lead the bandster way of life!

This week I realized I had 2 NSV. The first one is my 8yr old can hug me (at my thickest belly part) and reach his arms all away around me. No more half hugs here! I almost cried when I realized he can now fully hug me, not just part of me. My 2nd victory is being able to have a regular shower towel wrap around me and cover all my bits. No more need to use a beach towel! I might be at a stall right now, but these NSVs are encouraging me! Sent from my VS995 using BariatricPal mobile app

This just sounds like a stall to me. You had surgery about a week after me and are down five or more pounds than I am - so I think we're both pretty much right on target on weight loss. I got stuck in a three week long stall towards the beginning. It was horrible, but it broke eventually. If you're doing all the right things the scale will eventually start to show it again. You're doing great, try and focus on all the NSVs you must be having =)

So, I'm in reasonably nice food hall, which belongs to a major brand in the UK; picking up a couple of nice bits to munch on for the weekend. Noticing that my food bill has been slashed dramatically in the process and since this thang.. Anyway, I decide to exit through the clothing bit and spot a dress on sale. I think 'hmm, that's nice. Do I really 'do' lace though? Besides, is it be big enough?'. I ummed and ahhed over it for about 5 minutes - purely because I didn't want the embarrassment of getting it stuck over my shoulders cause it was too small. Anyway, after lots of mental debating, i decided to try it on. It fit. I didn't get it as it happened, because the lace aspect did my head in.. But as I left and trotted on down the high street, I couldn't help but walk into another lovely dress shop. Found a jacket I really liked. Lady approached me and said 'May I help you?'. I replied with 'Umm, yeah.. Do you have this jacket in a size 20-22 please?' She looked me up and down as if I'd come from Mars and replied 'Erm, you don't need that size my dear. You need a 16-18.' I have been neither of those sizes for nearly 15 years... I can see that THIS might be a problem in the future. I could be a size 14, but will still see a size 22-24 in the mirror.... I may have to work on that. In the meantime... size 16-18?! I'll bloody take it! Yipppppppppppppppeeeeeeeeeeee!

Had a nice NSV today... Needed shorts as none from last year fit. Tried Target first but nothing was fitting right and I didn't want to spend a lot. Headed to Goodwill...found 3 shorts a skort and 3 shirts. Shorts are 12 in name brands and 14 in Walmart/ target brands. I about fell over! Last summer I was wearing a very tight18 only cause I refused to go up to a 20. Shirts are all size L from anywhere. Feels nice to shop from regular sizes again. I never thought that would happen. Sometimes I still can't believe it's me when I look in the mirror.

I was thinking....what a great NSV! I hope someone says that to me someday. Maybe it comes from them being concerned that you're not getting enough nutrition? OR in the case of someone who isn't supportive of you, jealousy? I'm still waiting for someone that doesn't know about my band to notice, and say something about my weight loss. Over 50 lbs gone, and NOTHING. Not that I care, but you'd think SOMEONE would notice! LOL!

I went out for dinner last night for the first time post surgery! Went to Earls and had a bento box but only had the salmon (without the sauce) - and only had about 2 ounces of it. I think I did ok! Oh and I tried on a pair of jeans that 6 weeks ago I couldn't even get up over my hips and I completely bypassed the "almost fit" stage!!! They went from being way too tight to wear, to TOO BIG!!! YAY!! (Wore them anyways just because I could ) That totally pumped me up for the evening! This is really happening!!!!!! Can't wait for more NSV'S! !!!!! -

NSVs I like to take baths. It used to be that if I was in the tub, my fat would block the Water from going all the way to back. I would have to move so the water could fill the whole tub! Now there is plenty of room. A belt that did not fit when I bought it now needs new holes drilled in it. I am going to keep using the belt because it is a very happy reminder of how much smaller I am. Also, many people do not recognize me! What a riot! -

I am now down 70kgs on my weight loss journey, my favorite NSV are my rings falling off as I flick wet hands dry, my necklace sitting a few inches lower on my chest, dropping from size 28 to 16 in jeans something I've not worn since I was 14, and I'm 51 now. My face is so different, people think I've had cheek implants, but it's only my neck and jawline so much smaller, buying clothes in the normal size range, -

When I started my journey 9 months ago I was wearing a 5x. I am now in a 2x. I was wearing 10w shoe and now wear a 10. I used to wear a 9 so I am curious to see if I go down a size. I've enjoyed so many NSV over the past nine months and I have no doubt you will too. On a side note I sold half my 5x clothes on eBay and netted over $450. I still have the other half to list which I will probably do in the next couple of months. Clothing that wasn't up to snuff to sell I donated to GoodWill. I loved walking in there one day to see some of my clothes and shoes for sale. It made me feel good inside. I know first hand how hard it is to find good quality used clothes at a good price. Happy NSV to come! -

well, this is related to the scale, but still a nsv lol i hadn't logged on here in a while and decided to update my ticker. it moved me to tears to have a visual representation of my journey. when you're a noob and you see everyone's success, you think, wow they've come so far and i'm just beginning! but, oh, when *your* ticker finally moves and even gets to the halfway mark, it feels soooooo great! i'm 71lbs from my highest weight, 48 from surgery. woohoo!! -
