Totally not band related, my parents just left my house--after delivering the most yummy birthday cake EVER! White almond cake with raspberry filling! TDF! I had a small piece--soooo yummy! Also got some perfume and some clinique lotion for my face that I am to cheap to actually purchase! Nice! Happy Birthday to me! Thank you for all your birthday wishes! 42 years ago I was ummmmm about 10 and a half hours old. Big old huge baby with orange hair! :cake:

Banding saved my life. I did diet so many times and failed. I was able to lose 30 lbs on my own pre banding. Then the weight loss just stopped. I was banded at 282 and I'm down to 220 now. What a relief. Banding is the best thing I ever did.

Hello. I'm a new member. Hello Don't mean to offend anybody here, that's the last thing I want to do, because I'm thinking of getting banded and I need answers from you, but isn't this lap band gimmick a big con? No. I mean if you want to lose weight why not diet? Because diets do not, and never have worked. If you get banded you still have to eat less and diet so why bother getting banded? Because there is a world of difference between being banded and dieting. Surely when your banded 'pouch' is full of food you may feel full but you must still feel ravenous because the rest of your cavernous stomach is completely empty? No, that's not the case in my experience. I want to believe that banding works but I can't see how it reduces your hunger pangs and you can't eat what you like - I mean indian curries and savoury foods. I eat pretty much whatever I like, only in smaller quantities. I almost never experience hunger. How much will power do you bandsters need to succeed? Far less than when I was dieting. And if you have will power why don't you just diet and avoid surgery? I did that for 38 years and continued to "fail" at dieting. I have not "failed" at Lap-Band. This banding idea doesn't make any sense to me, it's just a big con. Simply because you do not understand something that you yourself have not experienced does not make that thing "A big con". Sorry if I've offended anybody but my doctor said that I couldn't get banded unless I could show that I could lose weight, so I tried and failed. That's understandable. Maybe it's time you found a doctor who understands the morbidly obese better than the one your currently use. But hang on a minute! If I could lose weight by dieting I wouldn't need to get banded would I ? You need to seperate losing weight from maintaining weight loss. I have lost weight, a lot of weight, several times in my life, only to re-gain that weight whenever my "willpower" gave out. I have lost weight, a lot of weight, while wearing a Lap-Band, and I have not re-gained that weight. Losing weight is relatively easy, keeping that weight off for life is the hard part. It's all a big con. The fact is that you could all lose weight without the band, banding is a big con. I disagree, and I dare say there are tens of thousands of people who used to be morbidly obese that wouold also disagree with you, they simply chose to not argue the point with you, as you seem to be prejudiced against the Lap-Band. Thanks for reading the rant.

Is My Weight Loss Slower Than Average?
Wheetsin replied to deb_fox's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are literally more things that impact weightloss (and fatloss) than you & I could count together, so I'm not sure where to start. Your info says you're down 22 lbs do I'm assuming you lost some pre-op. That has to be factored in. Losing is losing. You don't lose "before" and "after". It's cumulative. So don't inore the weight you lost pre-op. You also have to factor in an average over time. You're going to have rapid loss, and slow loss, and no loss. But are you maintaining a good rate on average? It's also fairly common for weightloss to slow a biut when you hit solid Proteins, and if you're already eating lean meats and vegetables then it sounds like you hit them pretty early. That might be playing a role. 10 pounds in 3 weeks is over 3 lbs per week. That's above the average rate of loss. There's a lot going on inside your body. A lot of things changing and adjusting. Almost all of them are based on Fluid, and fluid is heavy. I ate under 650 cals for 10 weeks and lost nothing. Obvioulsy I can't truly lose nothing on that intake, or no one would ever be able to starve to death. But there were things going on in my body that kept my weight (not necessarily my fat) unchanged. There are also "rabbits" and "tortoises". Men tend to lose a lot faster. People with more to lose tend to lose faster. Etc. Just be patient. -
Will I ever be normal again!?
Frustr8 replied to Mrs. Hayes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Watch out for your stoma narrowing down, this is a stricture or stenosis, and I am a veteran of that war and also have ulcerations in my jejunem- the send third of our small intestine that our pouch now attached to. Mine I believe to happened at 2 weeks but I did not have a confirmatory endoscopy until 6 weeks past my surgery date. And I have been fighting it every since. It really is kind of rare, but you will find there's me, Briswife and Mousecat all active. I believe my Bari- bud is the one closest to having all facets rectified. But I do still vomit frequently, my pouch is tender, sometimes it feels like Precious clenchs herself like an angry little ✊ fist, and I have a lot of right subcostal pain, that means right below the ribs, that is where my ulcers, the great majority, of which are there. Oh my weight loss is wonderful, 150 down from my Highest Weight, and 98 at last weighing since my surgery. But it has been a bumpy journey getting there, at this point. almost 9 months, I had expected " The Good Times To Roll", OH I don't think my Bariatric Clinic is that worried about me, but they are merely watching, I'm having to LIVE IT! They just seem to call it All ---Atypical. Healing Procee. Well Whoopee Ding isn't that just so special!!!🚩🎪🚩 -
Trying to deal with anxiety and depression during 6 month diet.
James Marusek replied to Amurillo04's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm afraid it will slip through my hands because of something stupid and I just don't know how I will deal with that. How do you guys stay positive? I think from an early age I realized that I have to become an unmovable force. You have to plant your feet firmly on the ground and resolve to go forward no matter what. During the approval process, there were many challenges. So I just put blinders on and continued forwards. When I went through the 6 months of medically supervised weight loss and exercise program required by my insurance company, they refused to pay for my doctor visits. Maybe a more accurate statement was that they paid for the first but not the second. They paid for the third but not the fourth. They paid for the 5th but not the 6th. When I challenged the insurance company, they claimed they made a mistake but would not try and take the payments they made to the doctors back. It made no common sense. They mandated this medical requirement. Also when I choose a doctor for one of the specialized tests required during the second round of pre-op tests, I choose this doctor based on the fact that he was within network. But the insurance made payment as if he was out of network. When I challenged the insurance company and told them their own online list of medical personnel listed this doctor as within network, they still objected. They said it must be some clerical error and they were not responsible for the payment. So don't give up but be prepared to dig your heals in and then move forward. Set your fears to one side and focus solely on your movement forward. -
Hi everyone, I just wanted to give you guys an update. I was sleeved on 6/18 and my weight was 246. My average before that was 255. First few days where very hard! By the end of the week was feeling great. Second week my head hunger was getting the best of me. I even cheated and ate 4 fries. I felt no restrictions and it did not make me sick. I was more ashamed of losing control than anything else. I have started WLS Group and I am hoping to start therapy to help with my food addiction. My incisions are hardly visible! They don't even have scabs on them anymore :s I never got nausea or vomited and have been able to eat whatever I put in my mouth. Well, 3 oz of it at least. Now am on pureed foods and that is going great. My favorite thing to eat is chicken breast from a can pureed with my husbands awesome salsa. For the 4th my family made me ribs in a crock pot so that the meat was tender. That was so good and satisfying. I continue to take all my Vitamins (Calcium 1500 mg a day, a multi, Iron, and b12 sub (all from Bariatric Advantage)) every day. I also take Carafate 4xs a day. I drink between 50-70 oz of Water every day. I know I am not dehydrated because my pee is light. Oh I also take something for acid reflex but not sure the name. I have no symptoms of acid rflx. I do not drink Protein drinks because my nut/case manger/surgeon said that it is not necessary but I am thinking I want to try some.. I have read a lot about Premier from costco, I think I will try those. SV (or scale victory): I now weigh 225 lbs NSV: I had to retire one ring finger because it fell off. My clothes are fitting too big My face is thinner and I no longer get sun glass imprints on my cheeks I don't think about food all day a lot energy My hubby cannot keep his hands off me... hehe! No longer take meds for diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol I can cross my legs when I sit My knees don't hurt when I sit down to use the bathroom (btw bm's are normal) My fears: tearing my sleeve not being successful at weight loss my food addiction What I am looking forward to: riding my bike... I want to do this so bad but I have not been cleared yet a new wardrobe running a marathon living longer going on a cruise and wearing short shorts! What I do to feel normal: I go to mc donalds every morning and order a decaf coffee I got to restaurants and stick to Soups If you guys have any questions, please ask! Thanks for reading. Veronica

I Have A Bad Feeling About This
sheshard2hold replied to BANDZILLA's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello, I was banded Dec.12th 2005, If you felt what you called a perfect restriction and now after severe vomitingnone, then listen to your body! You know with your weight loss how it felt before ,call the doc asap........I hope you already have. I can barely eat 5 ounces, i know we sare only allowed 4 ozs. but I tried to test my limit a few times and you know that HORRIBLE ,CRUSHING feeling we get in our chests when we cheat.......that's the band doing it's job."preventing overeating". I hope to hear back from you and that you have resolved the problem. I recently spent Dec 25 -Jan 2 in the hosp. due to my port having a bad infection and being removed. But my origional restriction is still keeping me in line!! I will be reoperted on in about 3-4 mos.to reconnect the port in another location. GOOD LUCK -
Non Scale Victories!
Ms skinniness replied to jar312's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
CONGRATS! I love these NSVS. I loved the first time my ring fell off my finger and I didn't notice it. Then I decided that when my other ring that was smaller would fly off my finger that I would be done with my weight loss. Well, it still hasn't happened yet but I think my weight loss is good. I'm stuck at this weight with a bounce of 3 lbs. Not bad, i do like my body size. Ironically, now I'm focusing on my face! I so desperately need a face lift. LOL Nothing is ever going to be perfect. -
Still Have An Appetite 4 Days Post Op
SkinnyMinnie2Be replied to jlbee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought I was the only one! I was starting to think that the doctors just "pretended" to Operate on me to see if my weight loss would e due to some sort of placebo effect! I was told that because at first we are on liquids, our stomach will hold more because liquids pass easier. Once we are on purée or solids I think it will be a whole different story!!! -
I had my beautiful baby girl 4 weeks ago and am breastfeeding. I have been watching what I eat but have not lost any weight. I'm not sure what to expect with breastfeeding. I do not want to take in to few calories but I also would like to lose some weight gradually until i can start exercising. Anyone out there had a baby after sleeve and can shed some light or tips on starting weight loss while maintaining calories but breastfeeding?

I have been doing the shakes to help increase my protein intake since I have had the hair loss so badly. Love the shakes!!

I think it's a gimmick, it is not realistic for long term weight loss. I feel as a wls patient it is very important to maintain a healthy normal diet, it is important to get into the habit of eating as much of your protein as possible, as opposed to drinking it via supplements. I may have one protein shake a day, but in no way do I drink it to replace a meal, I will usually have one between breakfast and lunch. The whole point of wls it to stop with programs such as the one you listed. I say stick to your doctors recommendations and try to navigate your diet with wholesome nutritious foods, best of luck to you.

3rd Day of Pre-Op diet
AmyInOrlando replied to vinniej3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started day 1 at 204.8, this morning, day 7 I weighed 196.2. An 8.6 pound weight loss in 6 days !!!!! I'm loving this pre-op diet. I wish I'd started it earlier. I'm being creative, with different flavors, using extracts and SF Torani syrups. I haven't been hungry once. I've averaged 68 grams of protein and roughly 600 calories a day. -
I can't remember from your previous posts, but are you on a PPI like Nexium, Prilosec, Protonix? Eating really sucks, especially after complications. I always felt like eating was stressful which in turn made my stomach tighter for whatever reason. Have you tried warm fluids like warm decaf tea the Celestial seasonings makes a peppermint tea that and a chamomile tea that totally rocked for me, I felt so wonderful drinking those. And, when my hydration levels were getting compromised, I said "screw the calories/sugar, I need fluid" and I drank regular gatorade. If I was dehydrated, and my body was struggling to function, a few calories/sugar wasn't going to hinder my weight loss, and honestly, after my complications, I didn't give 2 poops about carbs/sugar that first couple of weeks, I needed fluids. Warm fluids seemed to relax my stomach, soothing, but the warmth really helped and still do this at 2 years out. I still order hot tea or coffee before a meal. I hope the next few days are easier.

This has crossed my mind, although I haven't been sleeved yet but I already have kind of thin hair, I wonder if Women's Rogain has ever been used by WLS patients and it worked. I have never heard one person mention it...on any site or YouTube video! Discouraged 10 month post op VSGr
allwet replied to lb21407's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
LB i think your looking at this from a slightly wrong view. the AVG sleeve weight loss is 60% of EXCESS weight. From your post it looks like you are only 8-10 from that so barely under avg for the surgery. To get better than avg results you will have have to commit to above avg control of portions and food choice and at the later stages in time that you are in above avg exercise routine. 1. Are you tracking every bite you eat - if not start - myfitnesspal or any other app. 2. Are you watching the sugar content of everything you eat - food tracking app again. 3. Keep carbs complex and avoid simple anything. 4. Turn around every box in your kitchen and if it has more than 5 grams of sugar per serving get rid of it. There is no good sugar. You are still in your first year and avg weight loss continues -albeit slower - for 18 months so you still have time to push past avg and get your goal. Refocus on the mental game. From here on out it is all about the lifestyle changes you have worked on to make new and better habits. I wish you luck and success going forward -

Fears of looking old after weightloss
BigSue replied to DareMightyThings's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I’ve lost 175 pounds and my face definitely looks different, but I think much better. I was a little concerned about looking older because I have seen some info saying that massive weight loss makes you look older, but honestly, that was among the least of my concerns. I think I lucked out in the chin department — I had big-time double-chin at my highest weight, and I can see some slight sagging now, but not nearly as bad as I feared. And I am almost 40, so it was probably going to happen soon, anyway. It is weird to me to see my face in the mirror because I feel like I don’t look like myself. My face used to be so big and round, and now it is so angular because my jawline is so prominent. And when I smile, I have dimples that I didn’t used to have. It’s hard to say if that makes me look older, or just different. I’ve always had dark circles under my eyes (even as a kid), and they’ve gotten worse since surgery, but that might be temporary. I don’t have a ton of sagging skin or wrinkles on my face, though (my body is a different story...).
