What Would Happen If I Cheated?
ariesgirl replied to SkinnyOnMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I always find the "cheating" topic interesting because it seems that there are so many different post-op diets. What is considered cheating on a doctor's orders, may not be considered cheating on another doctor's orders. For me, my doctor insists that we do not eat anything but broth, protein shakes, and water the first 4 weeks. Then week 5, we can try cottage cheese, mozzarella, and greek yogurt. On Week 6, we are allowed mushy food. But, when I see what other members post as to their diet, it seems that I should be able to do mushy foods by at least 3 weeks. That is just so annoying to me because I want to eat darn it! Anyways, I guess at this point there is nothing that we can responsibly do except follow what the instructions are. I would definitely not have the guts to cheat on the first week though =) -
food finds! what are you eatin and LOVIN?!?!
Road Queen replied to shellyj.'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks to the internet, I do have a stash. I have Snyders pretzels, hickory farm sausage and cheese, organic popping corn, beef Jerky. Tonight, I was too exhausted to cook so I just had sausage and cheese for dinner. In 4 months, I have finished 2 bags of pretzels and am working on my 3rd. Its mostly to know that I can have comfort foods. Kell, I forgot about tuna and egg salad mixtures. I used to love that. I have some tuna packets so I will make some next week. There is a yummy yogurt mayo here that is pretty healthy. I also make tuna and avacado salad. I made a tuna vegetable chowder with canadian bacon, skim milk, low fat cheddar cheese, (cauliflower pureed for thickener) the other night. (cause I found this cheese in the store) Kashi crackers are also great. I need to order more. Other things I will order soon Craisins pumpkin seeds Almonds S. Beach chocolate chip Cookies -

Shelly we call cilantro coriander here, but its awfully good in a salad, mix in a good bunch with the lettuce - if you can find a Thai/Asian style dressing, its yummy - with slices of barbecued beef, bean shoots, red onion you can call it a Thai Beef Salad. I'm in Australia but I'm not big on sugar free or diet products, I dont like the taste and the thought of the chemicals in them gives me the heebies. Lately I've been eating a lot of reaaaaaaaalllllly goooooood gourmet yogurt, full fat greek style stuff with fruit, its heavenly. Really expensive too. And of course more calories than lite stuff but for a meal, with maybe a small piece of fruit its still reasonable. And tonight we had chicken burgers for dinner because for some insane reason I have had a huge craving for mango chutney lately - which we had on the burgers. -

Yoplait custard style yogurt. I never liked yogurt prior to banding because the texture was disguisting and I could not get bring myself to eat it without gagging. Now I eat one or sometimes two every day. I am also loving fresh cooked green beans with garlic, olive oil and balsamic vineger - absolutely yummy! -
food finds! what are you eatin and LOVIN?!?!
pugmum replied to shellyj.'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have fallen head over heels in love with yogurt! I didn't eat it pre-band, but now I eat it every day. I have tried the commercial brands, but I stick with the organic all-natural ingredients which do have a bit of fat and sugar in them. I figure that is probably better than the chemicals, corn starch, and dyes in the Dannons and Yoplaits even though those are good, too. I also like Weight Watcher yogurts. I'm really grateful for my yogurt addiction because it's PLAIN that I love. Occasionally, I will have blueberry or strawberry, but some days I think I could subsist on plain yogurt. Kelli -

Puree & Soft stage

Your nutritiionist should have given you an entire packet of what to do along with meal plans and recipes for your Protein powder. I had cream of chicken, cream of mushroom, tomato Soup made with milk and I put unflavored Protein Powder in it. Also you can have fat free puddings thinned with a little milk, greek yogurts with no fruit pieces and if that is too thick, thin it with a little milk. I really liked the kids gogurt, went down real easy and was thinner than regular yogurt. Strain the soup of any mushrooms or pieces of chicken. MIlk, soy milk or Lactaid milk. Liquid Protein drinks too. Drink 6 to 8 cups of Fluid a day and try to get your protein up to 60 grams a day. I had my surgery October 24th and I am now on mushy foods. You will be lucky to get 300 calories in you a day. Remember drink s-l-o-w.....Warm foods may better than cold or visa versa. Does this help??? -
Whats everyone eating?
Just Banded replied to lulubrat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Breakfast: 1/4 stone ground oatmeal sweetened with 1 splenda and flaxseed meal mixed in OR Isopure Protein shake with 1 c. ff milk, 1 tsp. natural pb OR Protein Bar (any of these choices are just under 200 cal) Lunch: Lean Cusine-the ones with 2x veggies and if they come with rice, I don't eat it, I'll substitute a piece of fruit instead OR 6 sushi innards like the crab mix and avacado (approx.300-350 cal.) Dinner: salads with turkey or chicken OR chicken with black Beans and a extra small salad OR if we go out to eat, I order whatever and eat 1/4 of it (400-500 cal) Snacks and or dessert:choice of: string cheese, fruit, pita chips and hummus, and last but not least- I am obsessed with frozen yogurt. (60-150 cal) Somehow it's in the 1000-1200 range. These are examples that I revolve around. I try not to go crazy and just listen to my body. If I notice I gain, I cut back the next day- but it may be Water weight. I try to eat Fiber foods like broccoli, rasberries and avacados with my choices. I never drink liquid cals like juice, I drink lots of water and tea and wine is on the weekend and limited. I need Tony Robbins to give me a pep talk to excercise, but once I'm doing it- I wonder why I didn't do it more often. My goal is to excerise more. -
Mushy vs. Pureed
ParrotheadCathy replied to jaysmommy1106's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
grits, yogurt, sugar free pudding, sugar free popsicles, puree vegetable beef or chicken noodle soup in your blender. You can puree pretty much anything, like spud mama says -- it may not always look good, but it tastes the same. -
First Visit With My Surgeon Since My Surgery! *6 Days Out Of Surgery*
Shesgotstyle posted a blog entry in Shesgotstyle's Blog
Ok so went to go see my surgeon today and guess what???....I LOST 13 POUNDS!!! In only 6 days people...6 days!! He took my bandages off and I thought for sure I'd be grossed out but they are BEAUTIFUL [except of course for some bruising mainly from the needles they gave me in my belly to prevent blood clots, but no worries...the needles don't hurt one bit..I was scared, but they were like nothing after the first one lol promise *PIX UP OF THEM WITHOUT BANDAGES*]!!! lol Kinda hurting right now, but beautiful nonetheless lol I can start my full liquid diet tomorrow YAAAY!!! That means strained cream soups [so having tomato soup tomorrow lol],sugar free ice cream and yogurt. OH YEA!! Of course though I've been craving ice cream so I went and got a small sugar free ice cream. Felt so good, didn't eat all of it...put the rest away. But, it also I believe caused me to have my first bowel movement since Saturday!! And he said I can go upstairs as many times I want now...I can run, jump, walk miles, do whatever just not lift yet. Oh yeaaa. I still can't overdue it becuz I'm still weak if I do to much like earlier today [i finally was able to take a shower on my own, but of course going up all the steps to the bathroom plus the shower was exhausting enough for me. I had to come down and relax. It really takes a lot out of you] and I'm not use to it, but little bylittle and it's gonna be great!! Oh and I just went driving for the first time in awhile!! Super feeling lol -
Portion size: The Neverending Debate
hagerteresa replied to Alexandra's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Folks, I had a yummy Breakfast today, it was 5 pitted bing cherries, 1/2 banana and about 1/3 of a vanilla yogurt all mixed together. Yummy... Anyone who keeps track of calories, let me know what your average calorie intake is a day. Thanks Teresa -
Surely soft steamed vegies go down? With maybe just a bit of butter and salt and pepper - yum. Or mash them in with potato. I'm all for "normal" diets with the band and I can do it but for many I think the reality is a staple stock of moist foods that work. But there's a LOT you can eat within this description. Have you tried, for example, cooking other meats in the slow cooker with liquids. I dont think I'll be eating too many lamb chops straight off the barbecue in my future, but a steak cooked in the slow cooker in cream of mushroom soup - easy to eat. Curries and casseroles cooked on low heat for long times - fantastic. Oatmeal can be as soft as you need and its fantastic made into bircher muesli - soak oats, seeds, and some cut up dried fruits in apple juice overnight, in the morning stir in some natural yogurt - a lovely mushie breakfast. You just need to be creative in the kitchen, knowing what to do with basic ingredients makes banded life a lot easier.

:hungry: I try to keep applesauce, string cheese, yogurt, soup-at-hand and the 4oz cans of mixed fruit at work at all times. All of them are at least 120 calories or less. I used to keep cans of tuna but tuna is not my friend anymore....it gets stuck no matter how much mayo you put on it or how much I chew it! :phanvan Ticks me off too! I love tuna! Every now and then I will have a small bag of Cheeto's but I make them last for awhile and follow it later with a bottle of water to get some of the sodium washed away! And I keep popsicles on hand at home at all times...that and Jell-o w/Cool Whip. Yum!

January sleevers are youd ready?
LauraM5 replied to ready2haveanormalwaistline's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! It gets easier!! Go slow on solid foods! I wanted to have soft mushy foods SO bad that the day the dr. said I could I went to lunch with my husband ordered a scrambled egg. Ate two bits and proceeded to throw it up because my stomach wasn't ready to handle it that quickly. Start with one small soft food at a time. Something easy like regular yogurt. Then go to cottage cheese, etc... It got better for me about 6 weeks to where I felt normal and back to myself. Take lots of naps and rest when you can! -
Anyone being sleeved at Salem hosp in MA?
Lavender replied to tanya811's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will do fine. The first three days are the roughest on the diet but after that you won't even want food. That's how I was and I thought it was going to be rough too. You can have one greek yogurt a day, one fruit, and juice. If you space things out you will find yourself actually full. The day of the surgery the anesthesiologists will talk with you. They asked me if I wanted some pain killer which I was later told it was a block. It lasted for 12 hours and I felt wonderful. In order for you to have it you must sign the approval before surgery. They gave it to me in recovery. I remember them doing it and I remember asking them question but I don't remember anything else down in recovery. -
Tomorrow marks one week post op! Purée food ideas?
KarenLoh replied to Whynotnow's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Refried Beans were my favorite thing. I looked forward to them all day and that was my supper. I still like them and eat them once in a while when I don't have anything else prepared. Greek yogurt was a fav too and I still eat that daily. -
Tomorrow marks one week post op! Purée food ideas?
kelcified replied to Whynotnow's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am moving into pureed consistency foods this weekend. Tofu is a good source of protein. The silky tofu can be added to shakes. The firm and extra firm can be marinated, pan seared, among other ways of cooking. I will be using tofu, tuna, homemade chicken (soaked in buttermilk at least overnight to keep it very tender), refried beans and unflavored protein powder for my protein sources. I will try eggs a few different ways (poached seems to have the highest success rate among sleevers) and hope I can tolerate them. I'll also be using Greek yogurt, applesauce (with the protein powder, and cottage cheese. I plan to make a sandwich paste (like chicken or tuna salad but pureed) and include flavor from onions, pickles, etc. I plan to use salsa with cooking as well for some added flavor. Maybe some plain Greek yogurt for some flavor and protein too. -
I'm down another 4 lbs. this week, for a challenge total of 12 lbs. Sue, I wish I could bottle whatever it is that's boosting me along, and share it. I've been where you are many times, during many diets. I don't know what it is that puts you in the right mind-set. At least now when motivation leaves, we do have the band in place to help us along until we can get it back! Besides journalling, which you are already doing, here are some things that help me: **Water. Lot's & lots. **Be prepared. Keep on hand plenty of easy to grab, but healthy snacks. Some of my favorites are raw almonds, turkey jerky, and SF pudding and yogurt. **Eat good food. Take the time to prepare tasty, low-fat foods. Then, freeze away left-overs in bandster portions. I love turkey chili and veggie beef soup (so thick it's really more of a stew). Hope this week is better for you, Sue. Tami

4mykidsinVale, I had to see a nutritionist the week before my surgery. I know all doctors have different things they want their patients to drink, but my doc has me on 1/2 cup of fluids every hour with sips of water in btwn.. Fluids included broth, sf popcyiles, sf/ff fudgecicles, diet v-8 splash (i really like that) yoplait smoothies and yogurt, crystal lite, propel, fruit juice (keep it at a minimal).. I like the sf italian ice.. im very lactose intolerant so the lactose is giving me diahreeha (cant spell). As far as protein goes, im using unflavored unjury, but i just purchased "profect" from Protica - Product Catalog . It hopefully will be easier for me to drink and carry to work. I can copy my list if you would like.. Just let me know.. Good luck & just keep in mind, every day gets a little bit better. :-) Lauri -

one week post op-starving-DOCTOR SAYS EAT
alwayscurious replied to bandster_1007's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 7 days post op I was told to change from 5 Protein drinks per day to 4 and add 1/2c. mash pot or applesauce and 1/2c. yogurt or pudding. So, I sort of moved into mushies at 1 week. I am only 2 weeks post op (banded 10/12) and am now fully on mushies. I saw my MD yesterday and he said for some people, swelling goes down really fast and they are hungry sooner than others. Don't worry about a thing. Be happy you have the o.k. to move to mushies. I do not think it means your band is not working. I think it means you are healing well. People keep telling me this stage is for healing (not weight loss). -
Need advice from my fellow Tenacious friends!
cQQlgirl replied to cookielover's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sounds like we all have a touch of it eh? I have put on 3 pounds in the last 4-5 days and have a cruise I go on beginning this Friday. Not good. I do have the body bugg but I've even lost the interest to wear that secondary to the weight gain. We were told we would likely not lose and may gain weight during this time but I DO NOT like it. Last night I was eating some Golden spoon yogurt (20c/oz) and it was a sizable bowl (bout 8 oz). My husband goes by and says, "That's why you put on a pound". He was smiling but when I looked up at him, the smile melted away lol. He paid for this surgery so this gives me more feelings of pressure. I know that when I DO go back to work they will all expect me to be on my way to weight loss heaven. *sigh*. All these pity-pot feelings when I should be thanking God for all these blessings He's heaped on me. Just goes to show you, that no matter how much you have, you always want more. Thanks for your ear (eyes, I should say lol).
