    Gained Weight Right After Surgery

Its a learning process. I am still learning things at 10 months out and i myself did a lot of research. Thankfully nothing has taken me by surprise yet. Read the boards here.. even if they dont pertain to you. You will learn what others are going through, and how they handled or dealt with the situation, so when it comes about.. you will know what may or may not work and be able to push through it. I just learned last night that Larry and Lennys Complete Protein cookies are 2 servings for the 1 Cookie.. I dont eat them, I like Quest and LL is too high in sugar for me LOL.. But i had always wanted to try them.. now.. not a chance and no desire anymore to even try a nibble LOL.

    Scared

Oh, my goodness! For every horror story there are hundreds of success stories! I had gastric bypass on March 27th 2019, and it was the best decision I've ever made. Sure, there are ups and downs, but I've lost more weight than I could have on my own, my diabetes is GONE, I'm off all high blood pressure medication, I can go up and down stairs again, etc!! Please take a deep breath and be positive. You got this! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    February 2019 weight loss buds

So we went to my MIL this weekend and here are a couple of photos It’s sooooooo nice to be able to blend into a crowd of strangers and not be the fat chick anymore. Also, I’m able to wear this OU shirt my sister got me over 10 years ago. It FINALLY fits me
  9. Jeggings are now my best friend, merely overweight also, get mine at WallyWorld and what a Joy to have left Lan Bryant in the dust AND I AM FINALLY A JUNIOR AGAIN- okay okay a 17-19 but it's Still Junior Sizing after all! Probably last was This Size at 17 or 18 and that has been 56 years ago. Tomkitten's Late Daddy never even saw me at This Size, we didn't get together until 2- 3 years later.
  10. Well Well it's update time. On August 27th Dr Doolittle, my ortho , removed a Ganglion Cyst from my Left wrist. Now I have been allergic to Hibiclez for several years so had to prep with my alternative, Golden liquid Dial, got the directions down pay and I NEVER GET any inflammation. Well I don't know what they painted my arm with pre- surgically but I suffered the Torture of the Damned- shortly after returning home I was unwrapping their fine gauze handiwork, wrong shade for Betadine, but it made me swell and blister. It was Ambulatory SURGERY but I still went to LaLaLand, knew I probably would , I hadn't slept well the Night BEFORE and although it can often done with a Local DrD joked. He DIDN'T need comments from The Peanut Gallery as he did His Magic. Really wasn't all that painful, have me a script for Tramadol, still have most of them left. Okay , You All know wierd things happen to Me and if course I do talk about them. Well I also have an adhesive sensitivity, might go with my latex/rubber allergy. so about the only bandages I can routinely use are Nextcare. So I put on a large bandage dressing, went to remove it at the Doctors Office, since I was having stitches removed. I have been sutured/ stapled so often at my age it truly is NBT. aWell the one side, the one over the top of my wrist, the bandage ripped up my skin, looked like it was down to the subcutaneous layer, hurt so so much and it was oozing blood badly. Wonder if it is going to leave scarring. So every day I change the dressings, every day it bleeds once again so I finally bought some Telfa 3by3 pads that wouldn't stick to the wound, no more bandages except gauze for a while, I Think it is starting heal some but still looks wicked bad. Wonder if he did my cyst removal minimal invasive, only the top one of 3 slits was sutured, the other 2 maybe trocar/camera placement? Okay that's Chapter One of my Update. I have suddenly started producing lipomas, maybe they always was there, just weren't apparent until my arms got slender/gaunt. Had an consulting appointment with my General surgeon, thought she might remove both the ones that were prominent, she will remove the one September 24th but won't remove the one lying in the antecubital fold, said she is nervous about getting too close to the nerves et cetera lying just under it. Orthopaedics wouldn't do it, although he has Operated on other area of both upper limbs, Dermotologist refused to do it, told me to consult General Surgeon, she refused, so where do I go next? Could a neurologist do something? IDK but maybe a trip to OSU where they aren't scared of their own shadow, have to see my PCP the 23rd, local hospital demands a physical within 30 days before surgery. Maybe he will have some bright ideas and can help me figure where I go next. That's Chapter number 2! . Okay now to the Third Chapter. About 11 weeks ago a Surgery Day was set up for October 3rd so 2 procedures in 10 days, Me Oh My! And having had the Right One. done in December of 2016, I do know what it us like. This is one I DO WISH I could sleep through, not so painful as nerve- racking. 4emember lying there with my poor little eye propped open. Really doesn't 5ake a long time but right at the point I was ready to tell the Opthamologist "I CANNOT TAKE THIS ANY MORE", Dr Reeder said "We're All Done!" Now this one will be done by Dr Koehler, her partner, she had no open Time and Dr Koehler, he did although booking way out because I think all the other people in Knox County had cataracts ripening at the Same Time! And do you think That Could be enough? Nope, no Way, now my Left shoulder has gone bone on bone, due to my arthritis more than Rotator Cuff Complete Failure, although he will fix them also, it's called a Reverse Shoulder Replacement, and most likely before the End of the Year, because it WON'T GET BETTER until then. My Birthday is December 26th, maybe if he isn't going ski- ing or leaving town for Christmas, that Would Be a Lovely Birthday present for Yours Truly, My Birthday does fall on His Regular Surgery Day! And since nobody's planning to shoot me and put me out of My Misery, guess I should have consulted a Veterinarian, they do help their patients become Angels when their Quality of Life fades down. So I will Keep on Keeping on, one of these surgeons ought to give me a Big Basket of Fruit for Christmas because I am sure fattening their wallets single- handily !👈😣👉

    October 2019 surgery peeps?

Hi @veisor, Sure........I've went back and forth and for the most part was Pro-sleeve..Back in April of 2019 my surgeon recommended bypass but said sleeve would be okay and my PCP said sleeve....The sleeve seemed easier, less complications. sure there was the increased acid relux risk with sleeve but I've never had that so not a risk for me. But for me, someone who is overweight not from overeating but from pcos and other things, somone who diets and can't lose a pound, i needed the true metabolic change that the bypass brings. Also....in the pre op stuff they did discover i had acid reflux, although it never presented itself to me. additionally, my bmi is 50...so I want the proven long term results that the bypass brings. If you know of anyone or follow these boards, for some reason many people gettting the sleeve gain the weight back or have to have a revision. Not everyone, mind you..but a lot. My pre-op psychologist said it best. Whatever surgery you decide on, you have to believe it's the one for you or it won't work. She said don't get the sleeve with any doubts in your mind. Don't get the bypass with any doubts in your mind.

    Any September Sleevers?

Guys I'm so nervous. Can't believe it's just about here. My surgery is in the morning at 10:30 in Boca Raton with Dr. Shillingford. I flew in from The Bahamas yesterday and leave next Friday. I'm praying I have no gas pains and nausea. Truly praying. Nikki congrats on you surgery. You did great. Linda you are almost there so keep pushing. I will let all you guys know how it goes tomorrow.
  15. I think I had a lot of the fears that someone with anxiety would have. What if I fail? What if people know I got the surgery and judge me, especially my relatives? What if I gain the weight back like I have every other diet I've been on? What if I get some serious medical problem? What if my CEO finds out and is mad I did this on his health insurance? How am I supposed to do the laundry if I can't lift more than 15 lbs.? I'm 10 months out and so far, none of these things have happened, knock on wood.

@KaysMommy Great shirt dress! I consider shirt dresses as skinny 2.0 clothes. When I first got to 8-10 sizes I wore everything fitted. I need to see myself "thin". But as I dropped more weight and being skinny felt more normal, I branched out to looser fitting clothes, including shirt dresses.

    Recovery

I am on day 10. Pain has finally subsided at the incision site and I actually left my house to walk around twice today. This is huge for me! Only been leaving my house for brief walks for a couple days. Still wiped out afterwards. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. The best: Getting my life back!!! I feel 20 years younger and am doing things now that I haven't been able to do for decades. Rode 15 miles on my bike today and felt great! Hiking hills, riding my mule, climbing stairs, swimming (in a size 10 suit!!!), getting down and up off the floor, no more sleep apnea, no problems with asthma or reflux, no fungal infections in my skin folds this summer, no joint pain, normal BP and blood sugars (ie: no more metabolic syndrome!), wearing cute clothes, feeling "normal" in a crowd, more confidence, not having to size up the furniture in a room to decide which I will fit into, the list just goes on and on. I took a "Biological Age" test, and I am 16 years younger than my stated age! Hurray!!! The worst: Can't think of any. This is one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself. I LOVE my new active lifestyle and lifelong way of eating. Yes, there can be temptations, but they get easier and easier to deal with as you see the benefits of healthy choices. Sugar and desserts have no appeal at all any more. Neither do processed foods, coffee, soda, or alcohol. I do not even see those as sacrifices - not when I get to eat so many other healthy things. I guess one thing might be that when I go out to eat, I can only finish about 1/4 of the meal. I take the rest home, but the left overs are really not that great past a day, so I end up giving the rest to the chickens. So that's a waste of money. I am learning to order off the appetizer menu and to not let my eyes get bigger than my stomach. It's a process. Another thing might be that I feel a bit self conscious about my face, which I think looks old and wrinkly now. Others tell me differently and that I look younger, but I just don't see it that way. I am trying to be more out going and cheerful so that the wrinkles look more like smile lines than grumpy lines. That's just a matter of building confidence and learning to accept a great new body, but one that looks a little funny in places.

    Tell me something good :)

I never looked at it that way, but I guess you are right! Good to know you would do it again. I also didn't know the bypass surgery had been around so long. Well I certainly don't mind supplementing, I do that now anyway. I just hope I can continue to take all the extra pills I take now, which is about 10 and climbing. Thanks for this, great information. It helps!

    September Sleevers???

Had my surgery on 9/4. So far all is good! Today is day 10 post op, which mean the official start of puree food (yuck lol). Last night, I did try some Greek yogurt and had no trouble with eating it. Only had maybe 1.5 oz since it was half a day early and didn't want to risk feeling sick with it. I can get in about 64+ oz of fluid, but I am counting my protein shakes and broth in that, without including them I am getting at least 48oz of fluid in. I can take about 6-8 sips/gulps of water at a time. Drinking 2 protein shakes a day for 60 grams of protein. For the most part my abdomen feels fine post-op... but I do have that one spot that can feel like I have been stabbed if I move the wrong way still. But even that seems to be starting to subside now. What I haven't been doing a lot of is getting out and walking as much as I should. When I do go for my walks, I am wiped out after 15-20 minutes. Still, I am gradually improving. I actually think I am starting to feel better all around today, so maybe today is the day? I am also not having any trouble swallowing any of my smaller pills. The only liquid prescribed to me was pain medicine which surprised me, everything else I have been taken in it's normal tablet form since the day of surgery. I am down about 7 pounds since surgery, even with the initial 5 pound gain. That came off within 48 hours at most. All in all, everything is good!
  21. Breads and rice, somebody said use good quality bread, toast it well and you'll be fine. Ha Ha to the INTH Degree! Also most meat, ground or pureed into submission, Precious Pouch knows and won't accept it- No siree! I was over joyed when at 10 months she let me eat Greek yogurt once again, helped with the protein deficiency, think my hair has stopped thining and might be actually reviewing. For me growth did really slow down, oh it still did but Tomkitten still gets his hair cut 2 to 1 over me- will that ever CHANGE? Well I shall perpetually be a "Work in PROGRESS", but no real use raging against it so I've mentally kicked back, accepted I may never be protein shake FREE, what Precious will agree to I make of high quality, fresh as possible, and with intrinsic vitamin or mineral content. Almost nothing from cans, has to be fresh or purely frozen. But You ME and My Future Health are worth it. After years and years of sublimating to late husband and other Family Members I have learned to put Frustr8 to the forefront. One if the reasons I treasure All of You , especially Fluffy Chix , I have learned so much reading her past postings and diet advice. So what I cannot eat or Change I find substitute FOR, keep my fluids up- People live on Fluid Drive, after All, take my vitamins and minerals, must be digesti g those because I don't made a rattling sound as I Walk. And trust in GOD and my healthier decisions. And Someday, in Some Way , I will be in Maintainance after GOAL! 😜Smile and show 💘 wherever YOU GO.

    Stomach emptying

I am pre-op for bypass on 10/28. As part of the process, I had to do a stomach emptying study, and it showed that my stomach clears it’s contents faster than normal. This isn’t a problem, if it emptied slow it would be. My question is, has anyone else had this and does this mean I may have an easier time getting my water in post-op?
