  1. Hi my vsg friends I'm two wewks post what food idea puree or list or recipe do yall have for me besides baby food and snacks too please reply

    I know I'm being dumb....

You and I are in the same boat, I'm scheduled for a mammogram next week as well (will be my first too) and I'm scared shitless. I'm also a huge baby when it comes to cravings and I'm fairly weak when it comes to resisting temptation. However, as I've aged it's gotten a "little" better. I really want to quit smoking for my health and for this surgery!!! I want to heal well and not have issues because of my habit. ALL the women on my mother's side smoked...my grandmother lived to be 97 and didn't quit smoking until the nursing home threatened to kick her out if she lit up in her room again, lol. She died in her sleep of old age...my mom is 65 and smokes also, but not heavily (like it matters how much...I know) maybe 5 cigs a day. She just had a chest x-ray when she was in the hospital for colon issues and checked out fine. I know in my heart that none of these are excuses for me to continue smoking...I mean especially at MY weight it has to be putting strain on my heart. Plus, I'm tired of buying them and dealing with them, as much as I'm tired of dealing with food ruling my life. I think it's time I let go of the things controlling me, and start controlling myself.
  3. Ok, I'm waiting on Aetna to approve my Lap Band, I've met their guidelines and I feel pretty confident I won't have many issues (we hope). Anyway, I went to see my surgeon yesterday and I asked him what pre-op tests he does. He told me the only major one they do (besides blood work and chest xray) is the upper GI (can't wait - har har). Well, I also had an appointment later that afternoon with my PCP so I told her I wanted my heart checked (I know...I'm over-reacting). To make me feel better she's doing an EKG and a ECG next week, lol. I'm really not all "that" worried about my heart but, I do have high BP and I just want to make sure my ticker is doing okay before I have surgery. So, she also orders a chest xray, I told her my surgeon was planning on doing one, and she said "Thats fine, I want to also" I guess because I've never had one. Ok, so now I'm scared....I smoke...omg I'm having visions of lung issues...I can't stop worrying about it. OMG...make it stop...... I know I'm acting like a child.....but I'm really kind of in a panic, because cancer runs in my family. (I know, my fault for smoking to begin with) Bleh...well I'm having it done tomorrow to just get it over with. I'm done being a big baby (for now).

    So happy I did this!

Amanda, You're right on track. Protein is gonna be your new best friend. Liquids might get a little tougher to get enough in daily, but I found that going to the gym or doing a rigorous cardio workout is the perfect way to develop a thirst and get in more fluids. I even add in some Protein drinks like Isopure or the like for some extra protein. As long as your meeting those Fluid and protein goals, you can take your time adjusting to the new meal regimens. Sounds like you haven't encountered any stalls yet, so be aware they are coming. It's just the body trying to adapt to the changes and hang on to remaining weight. It will adjust and the weight loss will resume. Don't let it get you flustered. Stick to your guidelines. You're doing great.....keep up the good job.

    Surgeon's office doesn't communicate much.

My office was pretty terrible as well. They actually caused me to fall outside of my 30 day window that my labs and ekg were good for because they didn’t call me in a timely manner. (Took them 3 weeks to call after I paid). I think the only reason they called me at all was because someone noticed I made an online appt with him and they didn’t want me to make a fuss.

    New to site

Lord you have more energy than I did at that time. Of course I will admit to being very lazy after surgery. Not a good thing. When I went back to work I was standing for a solid 8 hours, was wearing bad shoes apparently and screwed up the balls of my feet. Warning for all don't get lazy. My doctor said easy exercise the first six weeks. Walking, elipictal, biking , easy stretching all could be done. (NO I didn't do it and paying the price). I can't walk really long distances but am getting back to normal. I have been swimming and biking. You have to remember to let yourself heal. They (the doctors) played around alot on the inside, shifting things and your bodies need time to regroup. For the most part the only pain/ache I had was at the port incision. Never did have to take pain meds. Good luck to you on your journey.

    what to eat

Not to hijack the thread, but what is the difference between mushies and soft food? I see the nutritionist Thursday so I am sure I will find out then...just curious. I am 3 weeks post op and am still full liquids as I was 2 days post op. I also can have yogurt, thin oatmeal or cream of wheat, and blended cottage cheese.

liquid stage - how long does it go on for man??!!

Wow!!! 4 weeks is a long time to be on liquids??? I am a little more than a week post op and I was only told to be on liquids 1 week then go to mushy's ect... Every Dr. is different and you should do exactly what they say. You sure don't want to mess anything up!! Good luck and hang in there.

    Southwestern Beer Festival

Just freaking great!!!!! Hubby wants to go to the Southwestern Beer and Picnic Festival in Scottsdale Arizona this week. Grrrrr, 3 weeks banded and he wants me to watch him taste test all kinds of beer and food... while I do what? ((sigh)) but he is darn good to me, so I guess I will just go for the exercise of walking around. (they also have a Absolut Vodka taste testing tent there, is that okay for bandsters?) Good news is that the food tasting are very small portions. Bad news is that if I get sick I won't really know what did it. Oh, who am I kidding? I am eating whatever right now with no issues at all. Man, that first fill can't come fast enough!

    11 days after first fill

Here iit is 11 days since my first fill and i haven't lost anything:thumbdown:. Now I haven't gaoined either so thath is something i guess. Next fill won't be until June due to the high volume of patients the Dr. has to see. I've already called to see if somehow I can get it moved up to at least the date it's supposed to be which would be the 2nd week in may. At this rate I'll still be at this weight until Summer!!! I thought I'd be losing steadily by now. Still feel like I'm on a diet.
  11. I had my lapband placed in Feb 2007, for the past week and a half i have the tight feeling pretty much all day. liquids do go down but they gurgle with each swallow. I am in no pain, and I am not tight, last summer i had some Fluid taken out, and my band has never been constantly too tight. I have started a new job and cant really take time off, unless there is a real emergency to get an adjustment until after August. But I do have an appointment on Aug 15, I have to travel to Chicago to my doctor and am self pay at this time. I guess my question is, should I just make sure I am getting enough liquids in and some food, and wait and see. I have had this before, but never this length of time. Usually it was just a couple of days. Only bad thing is there has been no weight loss.

    Hungry or not?

This was a great discussion topic! Glad I got to read all the feedback. I am 3 weeks post and my swelling has gone down hence my hunger has returned. I am trying to manage and not gain the weight I lost since cleanse. I find myself being able to last the 4 hours in between but can clearly eat more than a cup worth. I have an appointment on the 20th this month. Thinking I need a fill personally. However the head hunger is what I'm beating now.
  13. Posted this on my blog yesterday: After having completed all of the prerequisites, I was told I would be submitted to insurance for pre-approval. That was a week and a half ago. Last Wednesday, I followed up via email, but received no reply. So, I called today. Evidently, they didn't get the Medical Clearance from Dr. Schneider, my primary care physician. Kim told me that they submitted without the clearance, and as expected, insurance called looking for the clearance. She got something today from Dr. Schneider, but it apparently wasn't what they were looking for. I call Dr. Schneider's office and she doesn't have time to call Dr. Krohn's office to find out exactly what they need. Sheesh. I asked Kim if she'd take that next step, and hopefully they'll get on the same page. I'll have to call again tomorrow though.
  14. Question to all you post--opers. I'm a nubile and one week post VSG. How long does it take for some of the abdominal swelling to subside? I look like I'm about 6 months pregnant. Is there a way to decrease the swelling more rapidly? suggestions?

    Nothin' much happening

So not too much to report. Which is good and bad. lol No loss, but no gain. No pains. So all in all it is great! I go for my month check up and hopefully a fill this week! I am excited. My 20's are BAGGY,,,,and I am anxious to hit the 18s and maybe 16's. Ok so I am getting ahead of myself a teeny bit. This weekend was big, I decided to sell my motorcycle...I have only ridden a little while, and moved up to a bigger bike way too fast. I LOVE it...but finally figured out that going down is bad enough but having a band, and the tethering port might be a bad bad thing. SO...the dream in my head of my bad-ass self is dashed forever! ha ha. I am a 42 yr old chunky lady who has no business on an 1800cc bike! Time to move on. It is sad. She is gorgeous...but hoping she finds a great home. THat is it here on the East coast...gorgeous weather happening. Spring is welcomed with open smaller arms! Come on summer!

    Sleeved May 6th

I was sleeved the same day :-) Congrats on your weight loss. I have lost 32lbs since and just moved to soft foods this week. Was a relief as I couldn't stand the protein shakes any longer. Good luck with the rest of the journey :-)
  17. Hi everyone! I am new to this site and very excited and looking forward to having support with all the questions and worries. There are many, many posts on stalls -- esp early on. Consider a search as there is lots of good info.

    FKN TIRED OF STALLS!!

Im a year and a half out from my surgery and OMG it gets so so hard sometimes. Covid hasn't helped things either since I've been stuck at home around food and our LOVE-HATE relationship 24/7!! Cravings? CHECK! Stress? CHECK! Anxiety? CHECK! Unhealthy food (at least for me) stocked up?? DOUBLE CHECK! I just ordered more protein shakes/snacks to help alleviate some of this because i don't want to punish my husband or kids by taking away their treats. I know i haven't been making smart food choices lately so im just ashamed more than i can even describe. I was going to therapy but since the pandemic began its Tela-Health video appointments and the office is INSANELY backed up.. i refuse to see another dr because of the distance plus i don't like having to explain so many times what my issues are.. I just wanted to vent to my Surgery Siblings because it feels like everyone around me doesn't understand why it is so hard, stressful, and heartbreaking to be stuck around food all the time because EVERYONE in my family is skinny and don't gain weight at all. I look at a candy bar and gain 10 lbs lmao Thanks for letting me vent!! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
  21. Hi everyone, I am 3 weeks post op tomorrow and for the last 3 days I have been experiencing very bad headaches. I haven't taken anything because I'm afraid to swallow any pills and my doctor said no Advil, Morton. Etc.. Think ill give my doc a call tomorrow to ask him what I can take. I'm having about 300-400cals a day and drinking lots of Water. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

    Pushing through..

I meet with a behavioral psychologist on a regular basis who works with the doctors who ready us for the gastric procedures. Today I meet with him, Dr Peterson, and I was in a bit of funk. I've not been eating well, and I know i feel different. Turns out that I've gained a few pounds, which actually only motivates me more. I almost felt like he was a bit disappointed. I know he wasn't, maybe I was just projecting. All this is, is motivation for me to get back on schedule, back on track, and push through. I'm ready for the surgery. I know that it's the right decision, I just need to stay motivated, and continue to make wise decisions! 3 weeks away!!!

    Breastfeeding Weightloss

Breastfeeding helps to lose weight, not make it stall. If I were you, I'd go see your nutritionist and find out how many calories you should be consuming while breastfeeding to allow you to properly nourish your baby while losing weight.

    Pain When Drinking Water?

I warm my water and it seems to be soothing. Helps me sip. My Dr.'s office said nothing over 140° for the first few weeks. I've tried room temp and cold it just doesn't go down as smooth as the warm does. Hope that helps
  25. I'm 7 weeks out now and ordered a turkey and Cheese wrap with lettuce and onions..this seem ok? I'm clearly not gonna eat the whole thing
