  1. What stage are you in at 6 weeks out? It varies from doctor to doctor what they allow you to eat.

Abs- how soon is too soon?

I was not cleared for abs for 6 weeks, but could begin cardio after 2!!!
  3. My husband's favorite food is smoked salmon. Also, in the freezer section there is cajun salmon (my favorite, not too spicy) frozen in pieces, and you microwave it a few minutes. We buy it at Sam's Wholesale Club. He thinly slices the smoked into small pieces for his dinner a lot. You can buy the smoked in the grocery store but in small packages. You can also buy frozen and bake or grill it. If seafood is all you can eat, you can choose any fish and broil or bake it. At six weeks we were allowed turkey chili, and it is simple to make, or a lot of people buy it at Wendys. I love refried beans, and you can buy them in the grocery store and heat them with a little Laughing Cow cheddar cheese melted on top. I do not cook any meals anymore, except something like chili, and I freeze it for small meals. You cannot eat that much anyway. We are just 8 weeks post op and we eat a lot of different things now, but like someone said, your doctor might have different rules. We share a small low fat hamburger patty with zucchini for a meal. We eat a boiled egg for breakfast. We have half a premier chocolate shake at lunch. We are older than you so we are not having to keep that energy going as much. You can keep posting on this thread and asking questions, and it will come to my email. I will try to guide you a little better next time. Good luck! Linda
  4. I went to two Support Groups in my area this week. I wanted to try them both out to see which be I liked better. I didn't say much at either because I kind of felt out of place. It's hard to get a word in when you have people who like to dominate the conversation. I actually feel better in here with you all because you can have your "voice" and people will respond to your inquiries without being judgmental. I won't go into specifics about what rubbed me the wrong way but I just needed to share my experience. I will go back for the structured sessions where you get professional information, the two sessions were great, but I doubt I will be sitting through the open discussions.

    Fatigue

I am the same way and I work 3 - 15 1/2 hr days a week on my feet most of it. My surgery was 4/10 I was back to work 10 days post-op. It wore me out.

    Do you exercise?

I go to the gym four or five days a week, on my way home from work. (I know if I get home first, I'm not likely to go back out, so I beat myself at my own game. ) I spend about an hour doing different things, mainly burning fat on a recumbent bike. I have an iPod containing my favorite up-tempo music for keeping me motivated, and I watch the overhead TVs in the workout room while I pedal. It's not overly strenuous, but leaves me in a solid sweat every time. I can't swear it's helped me to lose weight, but I know it hasn't hurt. I know it's helped with my cardio health. Dave
  7. I just talked to my Surgeon and NUT about this last week after seeing people say things about not eating coconut and other things but both my Surgeon and NUT say there is NOTHING that is off limits unless my own personal body doesn't agree with it! Like Ice Cream doesn't agree with me so I'll be staying away from it!! LOL Also I eat A LOT of red meat and also a lot of chicken! Protein baby!!!

    Gotta Start Over

Well like the saying goes...."Today is the first day of the rest of your like." :straight . I have got to get myself together. I have decided that I am going to have to buckle down and start with small changes that I know are for the best. I think that my biggest failure is looking at the whole picture instead of focusing on a couple of things to help myself along the way.:faint: My goal for this upcoming week is: :clap2: WATER! I will not say how much. At this point, I am virtually drinking NONE! So every little bit helps. :clap2: VITAMINS! I have some calcium and vitamin pills that I will start taking. :clap2: BEING MORE AWARE OF WHAT I PUT IN MY MOUTH! I have identified myself as a stress eater....I am going to have to do something else besides eating when I am stressed!!!! I can not say how often I can journal, but I will do the best I can. I hope that with small changes, I can get back on track. **For anyone reading this, I hope that I can help anyone out there that is struggling like me** PEACE:hippie:
  9. My surgeon allowed up to 8 oz of juice during the first 2 weeks of the liquid diet but after that we couldn't drink our calories. I would try some Torani SF syrups. Also, you could try protein powder in Crystal Lite or stirred into Greek yogurt. Good in Greek Yogurt with some PB2 (powdered peanut butter) and a little milk to thin it out.
  10. Lol Thanks today is my one month celebration too!! I too am at a stall so We are in this together!!
  11. Emotional roller coaster

As @@FrankiesGirl said, hormones are stored in fat. As you begin to rapidly lose weight in the early weeks post-op, those hormones are released back into your blood stream and can cause mood swings, irritability, depression, etc. The can even cause increased fertility, which is why it's recommended that women use backup birth control the first couple of months.

  14. I think I am going to do 2 shakes first thing today just to make sure I get a majority of my protein. My problem this weekend was that I was so busy cleaning and getting ready for my 5 and 6 year olds birthday party. I swear I was on the go nonstop for 2 days straight. The good news is that I am 4 weeks post op and down 30 pounds!!!!!

    Firsts

That moment where you had your first “oh wow life really is different now? “ Yeah I had that this weekend. I’m on day 10/11 in the post op liquid phase (and struggling but that’s a different post). I had to go buy belts for my pants because they were getting droopy. First time for that. First time hanging out with friends and while it’s not unusual for us to bring our own foods because of what ever diet/ gastric thing one of us is dealing with. I literally smelled food and that while that smells good I really don’t want any (grilled burgers). Like literally didn’t have the feed me now response I was so used to. I was content with my blended soup and jello I brought. First time for that. One of my friends commented on how much brighter/upbeat I seemed too. Next first: The Mr and I went out for errands and are finished the night up with a show. I put on a shirt and it just felt weird and baggy. This was a shirt I have like two or three of and a month ago wore regularly. I actually went and changed to into something less baggy. While out and about we had time to kill and went to one of our favorite restaurants. I knew I could get an awesome soup that the broth would be tasty and would blend up nicely once I got home. I ate really slow and barely made a dent. I think I was full (still figuring that part out) and stopped to get the rest to go. I also laughed when they gave me this big ole soup spoon that I knew was bigger than I should have per bite and instead used the teaspoon. A couple more firsts there. I know I’m going to lean on these NSV for the eventual plateau. What were some of your firsts?
  16. I experienced the pain on my chest and not my shoulder, they did tell me it’s Bc of the Gas that was used for the surgery but the Gas went away little by little after drinking Gas X. That helped me out a lot! It took me about a week in a half to have the pain away. I had hard time farting it out but I would burp it out. Try Gas X.

    Almost 75

I had my band "installed" in 2007 & lost 125 pounds. Like everyone I said "I'll never put it on again. In the meantime my husband of 48 years died..but I still held my own. Some weight came back but I stayed under 200 for several years. A year & a half ago my sister convinced me to go on match.com and I met a wonderful man to whom I been engaged for a year & a half- and then I was so happy that I started to eat again & gain weight! Just about six weeks ago I got enough nerve up to make an appt to see my surgeon - after 2 plus years. I thought he would be furious with me but I was wrong. I took the first steps of seeing the nutritionist and the psychologist and last Friday I got the first fill in over two years. 2 days of liquids then 2 days of soft and tomorrow regular food - but carefully measuring. My fiance is wonderfully encouraging and I have 9 lbs off already. I know it's only fluid but gone is gone and I'm on my way to 50 or 60 lbs - down from 230. I'm 75 years old - work full time - have a man who loves me for what I am - not what I look like and soon will have the body I want again. Wish me luck!

What Are You Buying To Prep?

Luckily my dad had previosly had lap band, so I stole his magic bullet. I bought a blender, but haven't used it (I am on week 2 of post-op mushies). My biggest purchase has been a sewing machine, not so I could sew all new skinny clothes, but because I need a NON-EATING hobby. Something to do besides staring at the clock waiting to eat, LOL. So I bought it at 2 weeks post op. Other things bought pre-surgery was just lots of food for liquid and puree phases. I tried all sorts of Proteins including some clear juice ones, which actually sent me into a throwing up fit 2 days after surgery. So I got some already made shakes at costco (Premier brand) and have had one of those every day (yes, even in clear liquid phase.) Good luck! Tabby.

What Are You Buying To Prep?

I bought protein products, both liquid and powder. Also bought some can soups that I will have to blend the first 2 weeks, but then can eat them the next 2 weeks when my diet changes to soft foods. I also changed my vitamins and calcium to chewables and still looking for liquid fish oil (yuck!) That pill is so huge I'm sure it would get stuck for sure! I'm always so amazed that different doctors give different instructions. Guess it just depends on who you go to. I already have a good blender and sewing machine. The sewing machine could come in handy to take in some clothes, I hope!! Don't want to start buying a lot when I first start to lose.

    Time For Working Out

Hi Am 5 weeks post-op. I started working out at the gym about 2 weeks ago. I prefer early morning because am so busy during the day. My question is: is there a prime time for working out? I mean do we burn more if we work out at specific time of the day? Morning? Afternoon? Evening?
  22. My doctor and surgeon both recommended staying on my antidepressants at least during the first year after surgery due to the hormone fluctuation during rapid weight loss. At first I had thought of getting off them since I believed being overweight led to my depression. However, I'm super glad I stayed on them during these past 11 months. The hormones can get a little crazy through this journey! As I approach my one year mark, I'm thinking I will stay on them at least until I reach my goal weight and then decide whether to stay on them or not. Also at first I had to cut the Wellbutrin in fourths, then halves. This was only for 2-3 weeks and then I was fine to take them whole.
  23. I have FINALLY been to the surgeon's office. I will meet the surgeon on July 31. They say that they want me to have an EGD with CLOTC done first since I have GERD. Their office requires a 6 month diet and you have to have 4 of their forms filled out before you can schedule at their office. So they are telling me that I can get the last one 2 weeks after the first and they will allow it. Then they say that the authorization will take up to 6 weeks to get from my insurance. Why does it seem to be hurry up and wait with this? Anyone else feel that way?

    Frustrated

I was banded one day after you and I'm learning that patience is the name of the game, and that is hard! I've actually had four fills and I'm still not restricted. I can tell that I have the band (hurray!) because I do feel it if I try to eat a restaurant size meal, but basically I can eat everything, including big Vitamin pills. I'm losing about 2 pounds a week but it is from plain old fashioned dieting just like I did before I had the band. I have another fill scheduled for next week and just like the last few times, I'm hoping it will be the one that pushes me into my sweet spot. It could take awhile before you reach your sweet spot. All I can suggest is to do the same thing I'm doing.... track what you're eating, make healthy choices, limit your calories, and exercise! Good luck and hang in there!
