What have you done about your rings???

thankfully my grandfather is a jewler so he is going to fix them when i am done with the weight loss
  2. Well I have my psych eval on Thursday the 24th that the bariatric surgeon requires. Now my insurance company doesnt require this stuff..but I just was able to make an appt to get in to talk to my PCP about seeing if he would recommend the surgery as well. I also called my ob/gyn that diagnosis me with PCOS and Insulin resistance to write a letter also. So I'm covering all my basis before I send this in to the bariatric surgeon along with my packet they want me to fill out about my medical history etc to get a consult. I'm making sure there wont be any question of me getting this surgery. That way the insurance company has no problems seeing that I have issues and need this surgery. My PCP has seen me more times than I can count about having chronic bronchitis and just being sick all the time and my asthma getting worse. I am also quitting smoking...I'm down to 4 cigs a day. Mostly at work and on the drive home. Of course you realize with quitting smoking I'm gonna gain more weight...which will also help with the surgery not that I really need any with being over 250 now and only 5'5! So whatcha think..have I missed anything that might be required?? My insurance co and the surgeon dont require the 6 month weight loss program...just lots of diet history with the packet you send in. Is there anything else that I havent thought of yet? :rolleyes2:

    Old surgery

So I just sent in my health report in today. When I was 12 yrs old, they discovered I was born with my pancreas wrapped around my stomach/ : google annular pancreas . I am now 51 and Dr.Valensuela said it would be considered a "revision" due to possible scar tissue . So, it would be another $1000.00 has anyone else had anything similar ? Crap, it wasn't weight loss surgery and I have never had problems since. I don't know who to try next, I really can't go above $5,000. Help, I wanted this done in July on my vacation. Thank you for your responses.

16 Day's Post Op No Weight Loss

4 weeks post op only lost two pounds! Still on full liquids? PCP RX lasix 20 mg twice per day last week, without that there would be no weight loss! She has me on three Protein shakes a day that makes me nervous because I am adding 80 calories a day(total of 450) she said some people loose slower than others??? I have been searching all over the web and can not find a single person with the same experience?
  6. I was sleeved 8-20-12 and I am now 16 day's post op and have not lost any weight? I'm on full liquids ,but can not eat more than 1 Costco protein shake and one cup of fat free low sodium tomato soup with unjury protein a day. Is this normal ? Any replies would be greatly appreciated! Thx
  7. I have to agree that I really like Dr. Michaelson and the staff at Northwest Weight Loss Surgery. Many of the people on staff have been through weight loss surgery themselves, so they are empathetic and understand on a real level what the mental, emotional and physical impacts are.
  8. My brother's girlfriend works as a nutritionist for a bariatric surgeon. She has said that she sees people that can't get health insurance now because they had weight-loss surgery. If your current insurance covers your surgery, but you have to change insurance afterwards for some reason, can you get insurance? I have also heard people say that as long as you get insurance within 60 days of your old coverage ending, the new company can't consider it a pre-existing condition and therefore deny you. I need to know because I will be dropped from my parents' insurance plan when I turn 24 next August, but I am hoping to have surgery before the end of this year, or at least before my classes start again at the end of January. I don't want to be uninsurable at the age of 24.

    Completely New Band Virgin

steve - i am VERY new to this process as well. i actually just signed up for this website today. but what i did FIRST was consult my insurance company about the requirements/criteria from them. i then worked from there. my insurance company requires u to be a BMI of 40 or above OR a 35 BMI with a comorbid condition, under a doctor supervised weight loss management program for 6 months, and doctor's documentation proving i've been at a BMI of 40 for atleast 3 years. So, once I got that information, I researched weight loss doctors. I am going to my first appt tomorrow, and that is when i'll let him know I'm interested in the Lap Band surgery. I've also gathered all the information from BC/BS to take to my doctor as well. then, i called the doctor i want to do my lapband and scheduled a seminar with them. presently, that's all i have done- but that's what i did to start my process. keep us updated!
  10. That is exactly what I'm afraid of. Loose skin and deflated boobs. My husband loves my breasts. After 3 pregnancies, weight gain/loss, nursing etc they do droop some but like I've told him before, in my head it's not as bad since they are huge right now but when they are droopy AND tiny it may be a different story. lol! Oh well, I'll take that any day over being fat
  11. We typically don't see it expressed in percentages, as is often used with the "typical" 2000 calorie per day diet since our post-op diets are so far out of whack with anything approaching normal. Our basic diets are Protein first (usually 60-80gm per day, with men often advised to do more like 80-100gm per day) and everything else is secondary. Those that are into the low carb diets will try to limit their carbs to 40gm per day (something about Atkins implies that if one hits 41gm then they turn into fairy dust or something.) As the protein gram requirements don't really change whether one is on a 600 or a 1200 calorie diet, the precentages can change markedly depending on the overall calorie level. My basic goal was to balance things out as best I could beyond the basic protein requirements, so for my nominal 1000-1200 calories per day during my loss phase, my percentages varied from roughly 50-25-25 protein-carb-fat to 33-33-33, with the main driver for it being the protein level for the day which for me was anywhere from 90-120gm. For someone on a 600 calorie per day diet, those percentages would be more like 70-15-15. Now, in maintenance, the protein percentage is usually somewhat lower as the level is still in the 100-120gm per day range, but I'm consuming a lot more fat and carbs to keep things in the 1800-2000 calorie range that I need to be stable (typically 60+gm fats and 150-180gm carbs, though I'm more tracking and controlling micronutrients than the macronutrients of fat and carb.)
  12. I am 238 re-re-started.... : ( ......at 250. Curious to know how much weight I lose at first will only be water weight? Is there some formula or method of knowing what is at least close to how much you lose that is water weight? Or a basic time frame for how long the loss will be water weight?

What Am I Supposed To Eat?

Every nutrition plan is different. My pureed foods list also included canned tuna and chicken, soft cheeses, etc. I also didn't have to actually puree a lot of the foods as long as I chewed thoroughly and kept things moist enough. I would ask your nutritionist if there is a recommended foods list for each stage. Here is the link to the website where my surgeon/nutritionist's office posted their food lists: http://www.mybrandnewlife.org/patient-stories-and-support/bariatric-dietitians-guide-to-successful-weight-loss/

    Weight loss stalls

So happy that my weight loss is picking up again and I've now lost 30 lbs this month!

    Weight loss stalls

I'm 3 1/2 months out and hit a major stall around week 5 until week 8, right after the Dr started me on soft foods. From my experience and what I have read this happens to most people because our body is adjusting, especially after having a big loss. Our bodies are playing catch up. Keep doing what your doing, eat healthy, get in your protein, and importantly exercise, even if just small walks at first until you can build it up as you get further out. I have since hit a one week stall because I got a severe cold and could barely even function let alone exercise. My main advice is just stick to your plan and guidelines, try not to get upset with yourself (easier said than done I know). The stall will end though as long as you stick with your regulations and plan. Hang in there
  17. Have u been back to surgeon and nut? If not get back there they should have advise. If u have been back and they have not helped get to a different wl Center. I would agree that long of a stall is not acceptable for initial surgery loss. I assume u are following the plan. Protien first low carbs not drinking during meals. Portion size no chips candy sweets etc?

    6/25/12 Sleevers?

I was sleeved on 6-25-12 and I have had an 18 lb loss and I have hit this brick wall and started retaining water hopefully be back to loosing soon
  20. Hi New on the forum. Looking for some information from experienced sleevers. Still deciding weather to actually have surgery. I'm about 85% yes. I'm about 240, 5'7, BMI: 37.6, 34 years old. Recent blood tests reveal that I'm in the 'normal' range for every thing on the list but can't seem to loose weight. I've been struggling with weight loss for as long as I can remember. Frustrated! Post-Op Vitamins: I read here and other sources that you need to take post-op Vitamins depending on what your surgeon says (anything from B12, Iron, etc). No where have I seen for how long patients need to take the vitamins for? Do you gradually reduce Vitamin intake after a few months? Do you get your nutrients from food once you're eating more solids? Are you taking vitamin supplements "for life"? Insulin Resistance: I'm about 98% sure that I have insulin resistance (still to be confirmed by a doctor) - does this surgery help with reversing that? Anyone have experience with it? If anyone has any advice, information, encouragement, I'd appreciate it.
  21. Thanks Annemarie for this post! I needed to hear it! I am being banded on January 3rd and of course I am questioning whether or not I've done the right thing. I am committed but am worried because it is such a life altering procedure. I am tired of the up and down in weight loss only to gain it all back again. I believe this is going to be the tool that I need in order to change my life for the better. Congrats to you and continued success on this incredible journey! Lynn

    Concerns....???

Just an update: Aunt Flo finally came to see me New Year's Eve. Actually her visit wasn't as bad as I thought. Cramping was awful, but actually it wasn't all that bad. I am glad she showed up, it just isn't healthy to not have a period. Hubby and I still want children, but that is on the back burner until I loss more weight. Thanks again everyone for your support and kind words.
  23. Wondering if there is a group of those who were above 300-350 when they had their sleeve done. It seems that the majority of the people I have encountered so far, were under 300 when they had their surgery, and while I'm sure their experience is helpful, I am really interested in the experiences of those closer to my own weight as it seems like they (the few that I have found here) have lost a bit faster than those under 300. Which totally makes since, as the larger you are, the more energy it takes to move that mass which in turn means calories burned, which means a greater loss... or something like that. And, I do realize everyone looses at a different rate; it seems that there are a lot of similarities to losses. Man, that last sentence is so 'stalkerish'.... why yes, I'm stalking your stats. No judgment, please understand, I'm just trying to make an informed decision. The quicker I am able to lose weight during the first part of the loss, I guess the, HoneyMoon Phase, the more encouraged I will be to take the plunge in the first place. Does that make sense? Knowing that I have my first appointment with my surgeon this week, which also means that I will be given my diet plan, and scheduled for all the other post-op appointments, the head-hunger is out of control. And, the only person who knows I'm considering this is a couple of friends that have hand wls and my mom. Everyone is so busy that I don't have anyone to talk to about this and so I have all these thoughts rolling around in my head. And the only way I know to make that stop is to systematically start looking for answers... making my head busy with other stuff... Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it. Please feel free to send me a private message if you don't want to post publicly; I know how sensitive these subjects are.
  24. I started at 377 in May of 2013. I had a 6 month monitored weight loss requirement that I took very seriously. I had surgery on November 21st at 303 lbs. My weight this morning (after a 15 day stall) was 270. Im looking forward to continuing losses! So far, loving my sleeve!
  25. hi shiny i use Centrum chewables. they have the proper amount of Vitamins for adults. when i was operated on, i didnt know about these and used the flintstones. but they are for children, i needed to take more then 1 a day. i've had to use Protein shakes and protein whey bullets for a large part of my journey. i've had issues eating from time to time. i tried many of them and found: 1.isopure whey protein powder shakes. they come in pouches in various flavors. i like chocolate and vanilla. i mix banana or other fruits in the vanilla....yum. it has 50 gms of protein in it and since i only used ice Water (Instead of milk) it is 300 calories. and i stay full for hours. 2. whey protein bullets. they come in 25 gms and 42 gms sizes and are only 75-100 cals. i use these if i find i'm getting in enough calories for the day but not enough protein. i havent had problems losing my hair and i must say it's because i have been religious about getting my protein and vitamins in. i get both of these online at: A1Supplements.com - Wholesale supplements to Build Muscle, Lose Fat with EAS, MuscleTech, BSN and more! good luck
