    Eating is difficult

A lot of folks have issues with eggs early out. Are you able to eat something like Greek yogurt or cottage cheese? It sounds like you are figuring out what it is like to eat one bite too many. Try slowing down and taking tiny bites. You will get a better feeling of when you are satisfied.

    What is your favorite snack?

Ahhh... I see. I totally see how you're offended and for that I apologize. My jesting had NOTHING to do with your size and everything to do with combining pickles and yogurt. That's a very common sitcom scenario for pregnant women -- pickles and ice cream or anything sweet, really. @@volfan - I was 264lbs and 5.3. I would never joke about someone's size. I hope you understand.

    What is your favorite snack?

If you were a woman, you would have understood the joke the way it was meant to be understood. Lipstick lady was NOT commenting on your weight. Pregnant women have strange cravings and the classic joke about these cravings is "pickles & ice cream combo". You mentioned you like to have pickles with yogurt, which sounds similar. Anyways, how would she know whether or not you are "fat"? If you are on this forum, there's a good chance you are at goal! make it a great day

    Protein

With Protein shakes, yogurt and cottage cheese and Isopure I'm getting over 100 grams of protein. Seems to be s good plan. But the shakes are just hard to drink. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Any Sept. surgeries?

Just a few days ago, the 28th. Was in the hospital overnight. Feeling ok, very sore on the right side, must be where the biggest incision is, feels like I got hit by a baseball bat when I move just wrong. If I'm still, no pain. Having a really bad reaction to the adhesive, you can see the square outline of the pad they used, plus a few circles from the monitors. As far as food and drink, it's a challenge to get enough in through the day, I focus more on nutrition and less on Fluid. I do a Protein drink for two of my six planned meals, usually first thing in the am and mid afternoon. I've had cream of wheat, yogurt, chicken broth, sugar free Popsicle today was good. Really tired yet, still taking the liquid meds for pain. Wishing I could do more physically but I don't want to push it. Heaviest weight is around 320 Weight first day of bariatric program was 303 Day of surgery is was 254 Haven't weighed yet, going to wait a week or so to get rid of fluids from the hospital. Good luck to you all! Wendilin

    So WEAK

I was on water, CL, tea, broth for 5 days after surgery. Yogurt wasn't allowed. I was very weak and lighted until I started using the vitamin patches. That helped a lot. Didn't feel that much better until I was allowed the protein shakes.

    So WEAK

Are you getting any protein in? Think out that yogurt with some unsweetened almond milk and see if you can drink the protein rather than eat it. I find the ready-to-drink shakes are gross and hard to swallow, so I am using Syntrax Nectars (powder) made with either unsweetened almond milk or water. Getting the fluids in is very important, so you don't get dehydrated, so keep sipping. Baby sips, all the time. It helps if you are sipping something with protein in it, but if you have to do water or diluted juice to get/keep the fluids down, that's a start! Don't worry, it'll get easier. Just keep trying.
  8. I am 4 days post op and I am weak and tired all the time. I read other post from folks that are 4 days out and it seem like they are doing leaps and bounds better than I am. I am repulsed by the thought of eating (who would have EVER thought that I could say that with a straight face) however I do well with fluids though. When ever I eat I am ABSOLUTELY miserable. I ate 2 tablespoons of yogurt around 1200 and it is sitting in my stomach like a brick. I am so full and my well meaning family keeps trying to make sure that I eat...sigh. I just want to feel normal.

    Taste buds change?

I'm 2 weeks post op and my taste buds have definitely changed. smoothies, yogurts and puddings I liked before are disgusting. I'm also not fond of sweeter things anymore except sugar free cherry Popsicles Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App
  11. It looks fine to me - my program was purees and soft Proteins, along with liquids of course, from the hospital on out. I was served things like yogurt and scrambled eggs (along with pureed lettuce - ewwww!) in the hospital. The basic rule was to try new foods one at a time to test for tolerance, and if you had any problems with that one, try it again in a couple of weeks. This is from a program with over twenty years of experience with the sleeve, so I had little problem questioning their experience on this. Things like Protein shakes are still a staple initially to ensure adequate protein intake, but their preference is to move away from them as tolerances permit - their general finding has been that patients tend to do better as they move toward more real food. I have found this to be a fairly common practice amongst the more experienced programs (most particularly the DS oriented practices that have more sleeve experience than the average bariatric practice.) The main reason we see most programs being more conservative and going with liquids, sometimes for weeks on end, is that they are transitioning their experience from bypasses to the sleeve and they haven't gained enough experience and confidence in the sleeve yet. We are seeing more programs advance their progression schedules as time progresses and their experience builds. How well you will handle heavier liquids into purees and beyond is heavily dependent upon how much inflammation you experience in your stomach - it may be minimal which will allow things to move through relatively easily or it may be significant where liquids have a hard time passing. There is no real way to know ahead of time where you will stand in this spectrum. Take things slowly and try small amounts of new things while sticking with the tried and true Protein drinks for the basic needs at first.

Need advice on my post op diet

If I were you I would try it, but in very small amounts. Do not try a half a cup! Start with less than a quarter cup and start with things that are easily digestible (yogurt, cottage cheese, fish) do not start with things that are hard to digest like vegetables! If it gives you trouble, switch to full liquids for a week and then try again. Good luck!

    Surgery was yesterday!

Thank you for the kind words, Kat. I was able to return to work on the 8th day because my wife was willing to drive me the 45 miles to and from work. We just made the same trip again today (9/30) for my first post-op doctor's appointment. All is progressing fantastically at this point. Pain free. Lost 9.2 lbs. since I checked in for surgery on the 19th. Cleared to move to phase 2 of the post-op diet and drive today. Now comes the fun of trying to determine when to drink the liquids around the "meals" (30 min buffers on both sides). Still wrestling with determining if a Premier Protein is a meal or a liquid. LOL. Cleared for Elli Quark and Oikos Triple Zero Yogurt (both of which provide added protein - 80 cal and 14 gr protein for Quark or 120 cal and 15 gr protein for Oikos Triple Zero Yogurt). Also received some Bariatric Pal creamed soups and hot chocolate to try (each has 15 gr of added protein). Wishing you every continued success, Kat, and I'm here to support you along the way.
  17. Yeah I need to do better with my protein as well. It's just I had to drink so many shakes before the surgery it's like I don't care to have another protein shake lol... Thanks for the info Sent from my LG-D850 using the BariatricPal App Some people have suggested hiding Protein powder in yogurt or pudding. I haven't tried this, but it might be worth a shot.

    A few bites

I'm also at six weeks, and I still have a lot of restriction. Everyone is different, but I look at this as a good thing. I focus on my Protein and supplement with shakes as well. One question: What kind of protein are you eating? If it's chicken, beef, pork or other dense protein, you naturally won't be able to eat much of it, because your pyloric valve (at the bottom of the stomach) closes to allow for pre-digestion in the stomach. If you eat things like cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese, or even soft white fish, you will be able to eat more. I am down 25 lbs and just went into a stall this week - I can tell because weight loss has been slowing and finally this week, it has just stopped. I'm going to work on getting as much protein and Water in as I can, but like you, it's still difficult (even with liquids). Good luck and let us know when your stall breaks.

    3 weeks post op diet

Hey @@JonteRaynal ! I was sleeved on 9/6 - so far I have tried scrambled eggs (with a little cheese), black Beans, refried beans, Teriyaki chicken meatballs (very soft, but I still ground it up), soft cooked sweet potato, homemade chicken brunswick stew and ricotta bake, and of course low sugar yogurts. My sleeve has tolerated everything very well so far. If you google "world according to eggface puree" there are lots of good tips there.

    8 days Post OP meal

There's a very good reason you're on Protein shakes at 8 days post-op...you have an enormous staple line down the length of your stomach, and it's not healed yet. If you put even well-chewed tuna into that stomach, it will have to contract and push that food...NOT what you want on an 8 day old staple line. Liquids don't need those contractions to move through your stomach. If you're tired of Protein Shakes, talk to your surgical team and see if you can move to purees...then you can have yogurt, Soup and many other lovely things that aren't protein shakes.

    Upcycling Ideas

I can't remember where I saw it (probably eggface's blog) and I haven't done it yet but it's on my list. Someone took empty Protein tubs and the fancy tape (think patterned duck tape) and wrapped the tape around the tub. Then uses it to store craft supplies, desk items like paperclips etc. This one I know was on eggface's blog, she had a lot of jeans with fancy embroidered bottoms of the legs. When the jeans got too big, she cut the embroidered bits off the legs, stitched them up with a zipper and made little pouches that can be used as wallets, makeup bags etc. if you garden, you can use the empty yogurt cups to start your seedlings indoors rather than buying seed flats. another garden idea - if you eat a lot of eggs, save the shells and add them to your garden. As they decompose they add Calcium to the soil and if you have a slug problem, put a ring of eggshells around your plants. The slugs won't crawl across them because the sharp edges hurt.

    8 days Post OP meal

At 8 days post-op I was on full liquids, which thankfully included Greek yogurt. Please be safe and follow your program. If in doubt, call your NUT to see what you can have. Following your program really is for your benefit.

    Upcycling Ideas

I don't know about you, but after WLS I go through an awful lot of yogurt cups, Water bottles, and even have empty tubs of Protein powder on occasion. What are some creative ways you have upcycled after surgery? Have you upcycled clothes or other things you no longer need now that you are losing weight? Have you found new uses for old things? I would love to hear your ideas and even see pictures!

    shake...shake your booty!

Quest are actually a Protein blend, not 100% whey protein isolate. I drink Quest sometimes *now* at 16 months out because I'm getting most if not all of my protein from food (I drink shakes more as a convenience now). But we were told early out when you're relying on shakes to meet your protein needs to stick to 100% whey protein isolate. Samples - I don't really know of any free ones - usually you pay a couple of bucks for an individual packet, but it's way cheaper to pay $2 for sample than pay $30 for a big tub of it only to find out later you hate it. I'd definitely invest in a bunch of samples. And don't forgot a lot of people's tastes change after surgery - so try the samples *after* your surgery Calcium - I use a variety: Upcal D (a powder you mix into food or thick beverages (it doesn't dissolve very well, so thin, watery drinks don't work as well. I usually mix it into my morning yogurt)), Bariatric Advantage chews, occasionally Calcet Creamy Bites (they're wonderful but 40 calories each - yikes!). Sometimes I'll also make a double Protein shake and drop a couple of calcium tablets in it. If it's somewhat acidic (like the fruity Syntrax ones), the tablets will eventually dissolve.
