  1. I have been feeling very tired the last few days also. My surgery was September 19 and am on week 2 of liquid diet. I have stopped loosing weight for about 10 days now and will have my first appointment with my team on Wednesday. I know the process is long term and can take time. My concern is I'm eating late as I tend to sleep in . And start my day later on. 11am most days. I use to be up at 7 am before surgery. Going to bed 12-2 am. And napping 2 or 3 times a day for 20 min to 1.5 hours. I feel disconnected from routine. I have tried to go to bed earlier but lie there for hours on end and eventually get up. Just feeling frustrated right now. Thank you for any ideas or recommendations.

    Varies a bit I think? For me I didn't really notice it at about a week to 10 days post-op.

    weight stalling

    hi everyone!! I am coming up to my 1 year post op, but i haven’t lost all the weight my dr said i should’ve lost. i’m starting to get worried. is this normal? i have about 50lbs more to lose (i’ve lost 120 already) yet im stuck at 195, and im working out, eating fairly healthy, but i do tend to lack on protein. is this something someone else struggled with??

    No weight loss

    you had your surgery the day after me. Last 4 weeks i only lost i think 4lb. weight loss slows down as you progress further out. What does your day typically consist of of what you eat?

    So its been six weeks of this stall. I have spoken to the nutritionist who gave me some suggestions, mainly switching up what I eat (done that) and exercising more (done that). I'm out of ideas. Does anyone have any suggestions of some things I could try? Thanks

    August surgery buddies!

    After 6 and a half weeks, Yesterday I finally started the transition to soft foods. Oh how I’ve missed it. It’s so good to have porridge I don’t have to suck up through a straw. However I did do a stupid thing and had a tiny sip of Hubbys soft drink. That friggin hurt.

    Back to work after one week??

    I was scheduled to have surgery in March and I was planning to cheat the system and work from home. My surgery was cancelled and looking back I'm glad. I am currently 2 weeks post op and return this week. I needed the time to get my mind together, rest, and watch movies. I had vsg gastric sleeve and took 2 weeks off. If I truly needed to I could have returned 2 days later because I didn't feel too bad.
  8. I am just starting out on my journey here, I thought when I lost 100 lbs in 2019 I would never be this heavy again. Unfortunately that is not the case and I am the heaviest I have ever been. In 2019 I was diagnosed with POTS and EDS which honestly explains many of the issues I have had since I was a child. My primary referred me to see bariatrics and now I am here. I have had my initial consult which was quite interesting and daunting as with a complex medical history there are additional steps. I have my first “medically supervised weight loss appt” coming up this week (way better than waiting til Jan.) I am here looking for friends, good vibes and advice all welcome.

    Back to work after one week??

    I had to have the full 2 weeks off because of the pain from 2 of the incisions and because I was so tired and would just randomly fall asleep. No way could I have gone back after 1 week.

    How much can you eat?

    After the first 2 or 3 weeks, I never had any restriction at all and my hunger hormone never went away. It's about training your brain to know that you've had enough, you're not starving, and even though you CAN eat more doesn't mean you SHOULD. I can eat a lot more than I thought I would be able to, at months out. But I just don't.

    I feel guilty eating

    Every hour to eat seems excessive. I was told to drink every 30-45 minutes and eat a small meal every 3 hours 4-5x per day. Now I eat 3 small meals and a snack at night and I'm good. Also, at this stage you can also add a protein shake which will give you protein to help with that goal, fluids for that goal, and some extra calories (not a lot, but like 110 or 130 or something). I can't stand plain water, so I bought the water flavorings (Walmart has em) with no sugar and no calories or carbs, and let me tell you...they help SO much. I bought Propel flavored water and protein gatorade zero (no sugar but has protein in it). I also drink tea (sweetened and flavored with Jordan's skinny syrup with no sugar, no calories, no carbs, delicious taste). I don't drink caffeine anymore, but when I was coming off it, I drank tea with caffeine. Now I just drink regular tea (or herbal tea, depending on my mood).

    I remember that horrid taste. I just couldn't clean my teeth enough in a day. The taste in my mouth really gave me an aversion to eating some foods. When I could eat a better range of foods it got better. Are you on nausea meds? they really make my life better. I take them twice a day. I was miserable till I got the dose right. I also had to drop the iron from my multivitamin to stop nausea If you are struggling to eat, go back to your team and ask if you can maybe have 5 or 6 tiny meals instead or 3 bigger ones. You will be loads better real soon. People who say this is an easy option to weight loss just do not have a clue how hard we work to get healthy

    Always cold!!!!

    I have experienced a strange phenomenon when it comes to being cold. When I went from 300s to 160 (and stayed there for many years), I was constantly cold. Like to the bone cold. Painfully cold. Last year, I had a revision to RNY for my gerd and have been 110 lbs. +/- 3 lbs. range for the past few months, and I no longer feel "cold" 24/7. I even kick off my blankets at night, something I haven't done for years. I had thought I would be even more cold. Confusing. lol It's more normal now but still leaning a little to being cold but not painfully so. I think it's totally weird BUT maybe others have experienced it. I haven't researched it at all.

    No, but this is a great suggestion. I actually had a pair of jeans I kept for 5 years that I try on every week to see if I can get into them. Today, they fit! So, while my scale hasn’t moved, I know I’ve lost inches. Thanks for this idea!

    Nausea and Taste issues

    It gets better. I'm 5 months and 1 week out, and things finally taste normal again, although my aversion to certain things that I used to love (like pickles, olives, cottage cheese) are still there. I never had much of a sweet tooth, but now I literally can't stand any part of chocolate or sweet stuff. Also, the nausea with eating definitely gets better as time goes on. You're still pretty new post surgery, but I noticed by 8-9 weeks post op, I was totally fine.

    Ok, I can speak on this since I literally went through this exact thing. First of all, you are in a stall. The first one usually hits around 3 weeks, but it can be a little earlier (like it was for me) or a little later. Keep eating what's in the plan, no more and no less, and get your walking in (maybe look into getting some ankle and wrist weights). That leads me to my 2nd point. Look for non scale victories. Anytime I hit a stall, I started trying on clothes and rings and looking at my neck and face and chin. The scale may not be moving, but that doesn't mean things aren't happening. The first time I was able to sit in a booth and there was space between my stomach and the table, I was elated. When my clothes were literally falling off me and my ring came off twice, I was ecstatic. Just because the scale is being stubborn doesn't mean progress isn't being made. Third, you have to eat. This will sound crazy, but if you restrict too much, your body will think it's starving and it will hold on to every little bit of weight it can. My dietician wanted me to stay at 700-800 calories per day, 50 or less carbs, 50 or less fats, and 60-80g protein. My body didn't like that at all. Not one bit. I hit stall after stall, would drop maybe 1 or 2 pounds, then nothing. I started experimenting and found that between 1050 - 1200 calories per day, 25-35 carbs per day, 70-90 fats per day, and 90-95g protein per day was where my body was happiest. I work out for 45 min - 1 hour 5 days per week. And then I started seeing MUCH better results, both on and off the scale. Now, I'm not saying that works for everyone, and those amounts are specific to MY body, and my body alone. But at about 3 1/2 months post op, I knew I had to do something. You body NEEDS food. It's like depriving your car of gas and then being surprised it won't go. Same thing. Lastly, I was in such a disordered way of thinking and behaving that I HAD to go to therapy. I'm still in it, actually. I had myself working out 2 hours per day every single day, living on flavored water, 300-400 calories per day, 10-15 carbs per day, almost no fats at all, and 40 or so grams of protein. And the less weight I lost, the harder I pushed my body and restricted what I gave it. I was so afraid of eating because I was convinced every bite would put all the weight back on. I was, at one point, eating 1 meal per day that I would make stretch all day and loading up on flavored water to curb the hunger pains. It's scary to think about what I was doing to myself. Find a therapist that specializes in bariatric surgery, and if you can find one that also works with people with eating disorders, that's even better. That's what I did. I still struggle sometimes, but I remember how far I've come and how much healthier and stronger my body is, and it helps me push past the feelings of wanting to cut my food and load up on water again. But a therapist is really important right now. I waited until I was in the thick of it before I even posted about it here, and I was encouraged to find a therapist, which was the best thing I could have done. I swapped one disordered way of thinking for another. I'm making my way back from it, but I'm still a work in progress. You can do this. I wish you all the luck

    Always cold!!!!

    Way back, when I weighed what I do now, I don't remember always being cold like this!!! I'm not skinny, or even thin. I'm still considered morbidly obese. Yet before, I was always feeling overheated, and now I'm always cold!!! I wear thick socks around the house, pants, long sleeved shirts, and I'm still cold lol It's so weird to me. Also, my bp (which I used to be on meds for) now stays around 105/63 - 110/72 all the time now. That's awesome, but still takes some getting used to. I'm 5 months and 1 week out from surgery, and the changes are just wild!!!
  18. Well, I went to Florida this past week. Did 4 days at Disney/Universal parks. Walked 7 or MORE miles EVERY DAY! What??? 7 MILES A DAY!! I would have had to stop and take breaks, maybe quit half way through the day previously! My feet hurt, but everyone's did. So I don't take that as a weight issue at this point, just A LOT OF WALKING!

    How much can you eat?

    Im 4 yrs post op sleeve and i generally eat about 1 cup of food in volume. More if its salad, less if its dense meat or fluffy bread in one sitting In the first 6 months it was like 1/2 a cup. And the first month or two it was like less than 1/4 cup. The first 2 weeks was essentially nothing, yikes. Im a grazer though so i can get enough food/calories in by the end the day. Compare this to pre-surgery when I could easily get in maybe 4-5 cups of food in one sitting. I would be stuffed, but i’d get it in (im rarely stuffed like that anymore as i actively try not to reach that point because its a quite uncomfortable - in not painful - feeling) Everyone will have different experiences, best to pay attention to how food volumes (and types of food) affect YOU, and act accordingly.   21. I found I was rather tired for the first month or so post-op, particularly in the mid-afternoon. Around the six to seven week mark, I noticed a significant increase in energy, despite no major changes in diet. I dealt with the fatigue by simply taking a break when I needed to. For me, even a 30-minute rest in my recliner was enough to feel better. As others have mentioned, the most important thing to do is listen to your body. Healing takes time and energy, and if your body is telling your mind that it is tired, you likely are. Everyone recovers at different rates, and your experiences sound quite normal. Give it time and stick to your plan.

That's awesome, thats how I think to ... everything in moderation, I was off burgers and greasy foods as well as little to no salt because 1 trying to loose weight before surgery, and 2 my mom has a bad stomach, as well as healthy conditions and can't eat alot of stuff and we usually eat together several times a week.... I think my biggest thing was it was real food, that I enjoyed (and was still pretty healthy) but I haven't had a bite of real food in 5 weeks between pre op diet and post op diet [emoji28] I am hoping I get a salad soon, I need to look up how long after surgery they say before I should be able to eat raw vegetables again... My dad has suggested since it's something I'm craving now. To Pick a goal, weather it be a scale number, a time frame, a outfit to fit into.... and make that as my reward lol but I'm trying to make it to where food is no longer a reward, and more of just fuel Sent from my SM-G996U using BariatricPal mobile app

    How much can you eat?

    I’m almost 3 & a half years & I still feel my restriction at times. Though it’s usually not related to how much I ate but what I ate. I felt it Saturday night because of some coarse vegetables I ate. Got a slight case of the foamies too. ☹️ However the goal really is not to feel the restriction just like it shouldn’t be to feel full as an indicator to moderate how much you eat. Once you feel full or the restriction you’ve already eaten too much. I ask myself do I need the next bite or do I just want it. And I only serve myself an appropriate portion. As @summerseeker said we’re all different. While there may be similarities you really can’t compare yourself directly to another. You’ll work out the portion size, the foods you need to eat & the calories you need to consume to lose & maintain your weight & for your body to function effectively & healthily. If you’re determined to do it you can eat around your sleeve but do you want to? To go back to eating how you did will only lead you back to each to where you were before surgery - with a weight problem. I eat smaller portions than I did. I eat more regularly now (was a meal skipper). There are a lot of foods I don’t eat any more or eat very little of or rarely but that’s my choice though there are some that don’t sit as well (bread, pasta, rice, potatoes) I don’t eat. I eat a lot more protein because of an absorption issue. I don’t eat a lot of carbs & very little sugar (real artificial or alternatives) & I feel better for it. But again that is me. You’ll work these things out for yourself too. Remember, no one diet/way of eating works for everyone. All the best.

    Yes, it does get better & easier. As @liveaboard15 said you are still healing & your tummy is very sensitive. I used to say my tummy was like a petulant, tantrum throwing two year old. The changes to our sense of taste/or smell is very common & is temporary. And it is also very common for certain foods to make you feel nauseous & blah! This too is temporary though some foods take some people longer to tolerate. You’ll even discover a food you eat one day, you can’t tolerate the next day. If that happens, just take a break from that food for a few days or a week or two, then try it again. The most common foods people struggle with seem to be eggs, chicken & steak but yiu could have different ones. Take it slowly leaving a couple of minutes between bites/sips. Ensure you take small bites & sips. Don’t push yourself to eat a food you think you should if you find you’re unable to not ready to yet. You’ll get there just in your time.

    I'm a single mom of a 5 year old and that was my biggest concern, and terrified she would be placed with her bio dad that she doesn't know, she scared of men she doesn't know, so the thought of her being forced into a house where she doesn't know anyone and her being terrified of the person who's supposed to be her primary parent .... I cried several times just thinking about it.... but I did what I needed to, to help things, I went to local child advocate and asked her if I could pay to retain her just incase, so that my child had an impartial person speaking for her that the judge couldn't ignore.... she refused to take any payment, but took my information and surgery date, as well as my parents information.... she had me call her with in 3 days of my surgery, she said I'd I dudnt call she would file with children's services to be her legal representative.... so that she could legally call my parents as well as start the process to get them full sole custody.... it actually made me feel better I know that was long but my only point is do anything you think will help your peace of mind even of it seems like to much, it can really help your mindset going in and coming out.
