    Any Newcastle Sleevers?

Hi. I know these posts are old but I'm only new on here. Having my surgery on 4/4 in Newcastle. Can't wait. I lost 60kg 15 years ago. I maintained that for about 10 years but 4 miscarriages later & still no live babies food got its hold back on me. Am ready to change that again.

    encourage me!!!

In one week I get my first fill. I want it sooo bad! I have been really disciplined and only eat 2 oz at a time. I think thats why I am losing so well and my pre op diet was all clear liquid! 10 lbs a month sounds good. If that happens I will be... 80 more lbs by my wedding. that would put me in ONEderland. 199! Can I do it???

    3rd Fill

After each fill, eating hurts for about 3 weeks. Even my abdomen swells for a week and even drinking liquids hurt. I don't pb much, but the first bites of food are painful, then I have to wait about 10 minutes, and eat a little more of the food. Takes me about 45 minutes to finish a small meal. I usually start feeling a little better right before the next fill. My 3rd fill was last Thursday morning, and its the usual, but this time I have a little heartburn. It's not a lot, just mild. But because I seem to really swell from each fill where it takes several weeks to heal, I'm thinking I should give it until my next fill. If I still have the heartburn on Aug 27, then I'll have them take a little saline out. I was able to eat some tuna salad this afternoon, so I can eat solid foods, not just Soup and Protein drinks. I wish I healed as fast as some of you!
  5. Hey everyone!so I start my pre-op liquid diet in 10 days and the closer and closer I get to the liquid diet the more scared I get about leaving behind a whole lifetime of food.i feel like I panicked the past week and tried to get in every last fast food restaurant I could think of because I have this fear that I'm going to miss it so much post op.ive been mentally preparing myself to let go of food since I started the journey of getting the sleeve, but the closer I get to the surgery date the more freaked out I get myself about not ever being able to have these foods again!i keep reminding myself to stay focused on the positives but and I am!but I was just wondering if anyone has felt the way I'm feeling lately!thanks for reading:)
  6. Just a little background info. I was banded in 3/29. As of last week, I have 4cc's in my band. I have been feeling great, and haven't had any major issues until today. This morning when I woke up, I didn't have time to make my egg, so I grabbed a piece of deli turkey breast and took one bite. Oh my, it felt like it took 5 minutes for it to make it to my stomach. I also got a horrible stabbing pain in my upper back/shoulder. I just figured it was morning restriction, and gave up on breakfast. I didn't feel stuck (I have had it happen once on a bite of rice.) 10 minutes later, I took a sip of water to take my achiphex, and it felt like it was sitting there like a rock in my stomach. I didn't attempt to eat anything until lunch. Lunch went down, but again it was just a strange unsettled feeling...like if I moved the wrong way I was going to throw up. I drank water all day and things were fine. Tonight, I had a mouth full of tuna and got that horrible rock in the stomach feeling again. I am really trying not to throw up, because I don't want to damage the band. I bought pineapple juice and have been sipping it. I was just wondering if any of you more experienced bandsters could give me a word of advice. A friend of mine who has had the band for a few years thought that maybe I had a lower block...not sure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...the back/shoulder pain is so bad that it hurts to take a full breath of air! Thanks in advance. Amber

    DS surgery support

Hello! I'm one of those quiet background researchers who never post...but I am having a hard time finding a place for DS surgery patients. I am scheduled for VSG with a DS on 12/19 and start my pre-op diet on 12/5. I am trying to research and plan meals for my puree and soft foods weeks to support the DS malabsorption component. I want this tool to work for me and I am trying to find foods that will be good for me and also support my WLS goals specifically with my DS. Can I please get some advice of other areas or links for recipes and support than BP? My surgeon gave me a great list of items but I need help to make a dish. Thank you!!! Lovenox Shots

I had them -- supposed to be for 10 days, was so black and blue and sore I gave up after 5 days. I still am black and blue (well actuall purple now) from the shots after a month. I think my body reacts poorly to it.

    Lovenox Shots

I met with my surgeon on Wed and he said that I will be taking them for 10 days even though I am a low risk for blood clots. (He asked me some questions and then used a chart to determine that) He said that since he started having all his patients do the shots there hasn't been many blood clots. I think I can handle 10 days, no problem! Oh, I finally got a date set!! I go on the 15th for surgery. I am so excited!!

    2 1/2 weeks post op

No, don't be discouraged! We were banded the same day and I've lost 10 since surgery--plus a 17 before surgery. You're doing fine--breathe. The first month is about healing, letting your body adjust, learning to eat with the band, etc--not about loosing weight. That time comes once you start getting fills. I've even heard of surgeons that don't care if their patients don't lose after surgery (and before the first fill) just as long as they don't gain. C'mon now, hold your head up! You deserve to feel good about yourself and the progress you've made thus far. We're all here for you and the most important thing right now is healing.
  11. I **LOVE** the sugar free popsicles! I used to eat them before. They were on sale a few weeks ago, so I now have about 10 boxes in my freezer!
  12. Ice cube trays to make post-op jello and pudding in. It is the perfect 4 bite size for when you are on the first 2 weeks post-op. Then at the dollar tree they have these like 3oz packs of 10 plastic containers with lids. Get a few of those I use them all the time. Again a perfect size to divide cottage cheese, tuna, or anything for when your back to work for portion control. Good Luck on your procedure...….
  13. thank you so much for this tip. I have severe allergies to dust mites (IgE antibodies came back at 20x the normal limit). Shortly after starting full liquids abt 9 or 10 days post op my post nasal drip got really bad, and it was deep in my throat not something I can blow out or even hack up, whenever I blow my nose the pressure from doing so gives me a headache. I think what may have made it act up initially is my much higher than usual dairy consumption. I do not like any Protein shakes, so have been eating fat free yogurt, milk, FF SF pudding, cottage cheese, creamed Soups, my entire diet is pretty much dairy which I have since read is a HUGE culprit for PND. I also have an air purifier in my room, which I set to high every night, is has helped with the dust, but I can tell the humidity in the room is VERY low. SO I am thinking of getting a humidifier. I am also sensitive to drugs and don't like taking too any antibiotics cuz yeast acts up, so I prefer natural. Thank you for telling me about neilmed, I am def going to try it. Tried the neti pot, and it works, but you are right it is annoying and takes practice to get your head just right, holding your head at the wrong angle it will come out your mouth haha.

    I Still Feel Fat :(

Oh and an addendum - I checked the tag on those Gap curvy cut pinstripe trousers and they were size 8, not 10, wooh!
  15. Texas has stopped all elective surgeries due to high hospitalizations due to Covid-19. I suspect other states with big resurgence of cases will do the same, Hope it doesn't happen to any of you but be prepared. Your surgery date may get postponed. How Bad is the Flight Home?

I had my sleeve surgery on a Wednesday and flew home the Saturday. I had planned on staying longer after my surgery but due to possible plane cancellations (coronavirus) I flew home earlier. Surgeon said I could fly home the Friday if I wanted, I definitely wasn't up to the Friday. Decided to see how I felt the the following day and I felt fine to fly. I travelled solo, so my issue was my suitcase, thankfully I had packed light and used proper manual handling technique to put my case on the belt at check in, and again when picking up the case at arrivals. That was more a drag off the belt and onto the floor. My flight was about 1hr 45minutes - all good there. I didn't need to get up and walk about due to gas pains or anything. I think the biggest worry for you is (1) you don't know yet how you are going to feel after the surgery and if you will be feeling well enough to travel (2) lack of possible social distancing after surgery, not sure I would want the risk of catching covid19 (just after surgery or anytime for that matter) now that it has blown out...hopefully more reined in by then though. (There was only 19 people on my flight home due to massive cancellations back in March and I had no one around at all). What surgery are you having? You may need more time following a bypass? Is your surgeon happy for you to fly four hours after surgery two days before ? Not able to stay an extra night at a hotel somewhere?
  17. erikaz, glad you asked that question? I was banded 6/3/09 and since I started the optifast 2 weeks before surgery, I've lost 30 pounds. I'm afraid my dr is not going to give me a fill on 7/10. I seem to have restriction even without any fluid but want a fill so I stay fuller longer. I get full fast, but it doesn't last too long. I'm not complaining about the weight loss but I really would like a fill.

Wow... this is a time bomb topic that goes off in my head nearly everyday!! My body confidence has been zero for so long I can hardly remember... I think it started when my mother (with all good intentions) took me to the Dr cos I was fat, lets remember this is the late 70's early 80's making me about 9 or 10. He immediately agreed with her and put me on a calorie restricted diet. This lead to me having my own shelf in the fridge with all my milk and butter in little daily portions that I was allowed to eat... my food was literally segregated from the rest of my families. At that age I felt and outcast and I am sure this lead to a hatred of food! I too was always the fat and funny one of my friends, I looked ok, still do, but I felt awful. I covered this up by being outgoing, chatty and funny - luckily for me I have a good sense of humour and can 'crack' people up in the blink of an eye! So, as the adult years progressed, my self esteem remained but I forced myself to get on with it and not let it spoil this beautiful life that I have. People are shocked when I tell them that I am self aware and don't like being fat... infact a friend of mine more recently said' Coops I can't believe you are on a diet 'cos you seem so happy with yourself'! Ain't I a good actress... ahmmm... Oscar please!! The main thing that surprises my husband is my constant failure to loswe weight when I diet ... and he isn't being harsh when he said that... what he means is that when I put my mind to something, I generally succeed as I have an inner determination that doesn't like failure (as I am sure we all do). For example, I went back to uni when my kids were young, I worked my ass off and came out with a first class honours degree... top of the class! This lead me to my current teaching job where I am flourishing and doing a good job; the pupils get on with me and they do well in my class... happy days! So the question he posed is... Why can't you lose weight when you diet cos you always do so well with other parts of your life? Good question I thought ... and here I am now... 13 weeks post op and slowly losing weight. I get frustrated with my slow weight loss and my hubby seems to think that this is more of a psychological issue ... dunno he might be right? It might just be me and my body. However, I do feel as if my head and my body are constantly arguing with each other...lol... I ain't saying that I am going nuts, by the way... just don't understand why I ain't losing faster as this is what I want sooooo much; to have a slim, healthy body to enjoy the rest of my life with! I don't know if I will get to goal weight, or how I will feel if I get there... but I do know that I am pleased to be losing and not gaining. I am pleased to feel better and have more energy. I am pleased that I have made this commitment to myself and my family!!

First of all you look amazing!!! I hope I do as well as you. We started at the same size and my goal weight is 125. I feel the same way. I am a very confident person my weight did bother me but I didn't let it get me down. My husband(meanegene) and I are doing this together he goes in on Oct. 8th for his surgery. It is kind of weird when you see your reflection in a window. I think "was that me" I didn't know I was that fat. I never saw it. You are a great inspiration. I will need to have my breasts done as well. I started with an H cupp and now at DDD. Out of the sixteen pounds I have lost I am sure 10 of them came from the boobs.

    It feels too easy.

YES! I am two weeks out and I'm so hungry. It's actually better today since I'm back to work (sedentary, work from home) so I'm distracted. I'm eating about 550 calories a day and I could eat more. I've heard it gets better once you can eat solid foods, so I'll know more tomorrow. Also, I had a lot of pain and gas the first few days, but now it doesn't take very long for me to drink a protein shake (longer to eat a yogurt, but I also had a tooth removed, so that is painful), maybe 15 minutes. It took me almost an hour the first night home to take 10 pills but now it's less than five minutes. I can drink a swallow of water that feels like a real mouthful, but I still can't guzzle or drink a full glass in one breath like I used to.

  22. My doc told me it isn't the risk of stretching the sleeve. It is the sugar and calories. Pepsi max or dr pepper 10 maybe?
  23. I have a family member that is 10 years post op...she said she still doesn't ever really feel full...there's just a "rock" like sensation where her stomach is.

    When does eating feel "normal"?

I'm 10 months post-op today and I've just started to feel normal when I eat. I don't feel my restriction much and I don't have as much burping/gurgling/etc with food.

    VSG at "low" BMI?

I had a relatively low BMI I have a lapband because I didn't want to remove a body part. Now almost 10 months later I hate the lap band. (food getting stuck, not being able to eat chicken, meat....having to chew my food to a pulp) But I did lose weight! I am doing a revision to a sleeve. It is a hard choice. Best of luck on your decision! D.
