7 weeks out and a fruit addict...

Try Greek yogurt with pineapple in it, it will curve your craving !
  2. Hi, I am 9 months out. Eating out is very hard, and I feel for you having to do do all three meals out. I would suggest you look for a Protein bar that you like so that you can eat one for a meal. I like Pure Protein Bars which I find at Target. As for restaunants, I have found the half of a small cup of Wendy's chili works well, I prefer Culvers chili, but I don't know if they are in Florida. Perkins also works well. I just order one or two scrambled eggs, and request that they use egg beaters (this would probably work at many restaunants). Hopefully, you can find some low calorie Greek Yogurt at a convenience store since that makes a good meal. I have also eaten at Applebees, but not that early on. I try to eat at national chains because it makes it easier to research thier menu on line before I go to the restaunant so I know exactly how much of what I am ordering I can eat. As for Water, other than the first couple of weeks, I never needed to sip. I just drink water like I always have. Now, maybe you mean that you can't keep a sip down, then I would think that ice chips would be fine. I can down a 20 ounce glass of water in about 15 minutes if I want to (I usually drink it much slower though). Hope this helps! Enjoy sunny Florida - I'm stuck in cold Minnesota!! Carol
  3. You are started puréed already?? That seams awfully soon for being sleeved last week. I was on liquids than yogurts and applesauce for a week, I wasn't allowed puréed til week 3. Be careful jumping that fast...

    Post-Op January 2014 Losers Club!

Introduce your new foods gradually so, if something doesn't sit well, you'll know what it was and be able to avoid it for a week or more. In my early weeks I was able to eat out, too, but soups were the extent of it. I could eat broccoli cheese soup and clam chowder, eating around the bigger chunks and chewing soft parts of broccoli carefully. It never bothered me. It takes a while for your insides to heal and the swelling can last several weeks or more. That's partly to blame for how easily you foods get 'stuck' in that time. Later you will be able to eat more variety. It's a major learning experience and everyone is different. Hang in there! It's Soooooo worth it! :-) Some good options to puree: refried beans, meatballs, pea soup, chili, soups. Good soft foods for pureed stage: Laughing Cow cheese, hummus, cottage cheese w/sf preserves, ricotta, sf pudding mixed w/chocolate whey protein, Greek yogurt, no sugar added applesauce, sf Carnation Instant Breakfast, protein shakes. Go to the website 'The World According to Egg Face' for protein shake recipes that are creative and delicious! :-)

    Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

Good mornijng ladies. Had a wonderful, albeit busy, weekend. Michelle, your post made me cry. When my grandmother was hooked up to a million machines for YEARS I always cried and wished for her release and always felt guilty for feeling like that. Now that I'm older I realize that that was a very mature unselfish feeling for a little girl, which I was at the time. My continued prayers with you and your family. Janey! You are doing awesome!! Keep up the great work! You deserve it plus much more... Pammy, how did you like alice in wonderland? I was gonna go see it but haven't had time. Are u all unpacked? If you are then you are superwoman! We had unpacked boxes in our garage for yaers after we moved in... Judy, I used to love fashion bug but then they closed all of them here...I'm surre your clothes will fit you before you know it... Heather, so cute about ayla! She is getting so big so fast. Both our lapband babies are! Please post more pics, I miss her sweet face! I started bootcamp this morning and I'm so sore. Its gonna kick my butt. I'm noshing on some greek yogurt with granola now. I had a scrambled egg for breakfast. I'm gonna try to do six small meals a day and see how that works for me... my hand is killing me typing on this phone... love y'all lots always... be back later
  6. I will definitely call my surgeon and pharmacist and see what the deal is. My largest pill is generic Neurontin, gabapentin. It has a half score on it. But wouldn't the sharp edges from the cut pill(s) be a potential harm to the stapled pouch? If not, then why are we straining things like plain yogurt? I'm on full liquids upon arriving home. I still hate to crush. I also take bupropion, which seems like it's coated. But I'm not understanding how we/some can take pills when the pouch is so "sensitive" that we go on special diet protocols to avoid hurting it. I like your ideas on how to take crushed pills, and like even better that some people swallow whole pills. Again, I do what my surgeon says!

It's tough to get protein in as a non meat eater. I love miso soup made with a homemade beef broth. Miso has tofu. You can buy a firm high protein tofu but I caution against too much soy. Also, u you may have to eat more to get it. 1 cup of broccoli has 3G of protein. Maybe make a yummy beef broth broccoli soup with tofu. Don't forget eggs! Yum! Greek yogurt is higher in protein. I have used it to replace sour cream, mayo in home made salad dressing. Add some stevia and fruit with crushed almonds...omg that is super yummy. You'll have to be creative to get protein without meat. But people do it all the time. Google is my go to for recipes and ideas. We're all learning:-). Good luck

    Pre-OP Liquid diet recipes

Yes this is so nice. I got the Hot and Sour and strained all the stuff out and it was soooo yummy. I just finished my first week of three week pre-op diet and doing good. I'm down 8lb. ***My life saver is the sugar free jello. I add 1 scoop of Unjury Unflavored protein powder to a cup of cold water, mix real good and then add that to my already dissolved jello that is 1 cup hot water. I like firm firm jello so I do 2 pkgs jello to 2 cups water total. One hot to dissolve the jello and one cold for the Protein powder. Mix both and pour into single serve containers. I add the protein powder to make sure I get enough protein in for the day because I have trouble doing three premiere protein shakes a day. I really get sick of all the sweet. blah I also use Unjury Chicken flavor soup protein mix too... this is so good. I'm going to experiment and had it in unflavored gelatin see how that works. LOL - soup cubes *wink* I do use broth cubes for convenience, but I don't want to much sodium so I also buy the organic premade broth from Walmart. These are good and less sodium. I am allowed cottage cheese on my pre-op diet so that helps too, cause I can sprinkle with seasonings. I also am allowed Oikos triple zero yogurt once a day. Those are so yummy. Coffee flavor is my FaV! For those of you just starting your pre-op. I'm already not feeling as hungry as I used too. I have to remind myself sometimes to make sure I get enough stuff in for the day. Its true once you get past the first four or five days it gets easier. I do miss a crunch now and then. LOL - I did have (bad bad) a few of those quest protein chips. But just got right back on. This diet is to help us shrink our livers and drop a few pounds to help in lessen any complications during surgery. It also helps us detox and ready our body and minds for the changes its about to go through. Everybody's pre-op diet is different. Just depends on your program and doctors requirements and your current health. I'm scheduled July 12th and so excited and nervous.

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

Ironically, last week after like four bites of frozen yogurt my mom freaked out on me about gaining my weight back and how I needed to reign things back in. She was so over the top aggressive, it made me realize that I was not the only one who had an unhealthy relationship with weight. It brought me right back to my childhood. I quickly placed firm boundaries around this issue, which she is not doing well with ... but a healthy relationship with food is about me not her. And I will continue on this journey strong ... creating my new life, including healthy relationships with both food and people. Good luck to us all!

    Dairy reaction

I was strictly told to avoid caffeine for at least 6 months after surgery. I've been having a yogurt almost daily for over a week, no issues. Hope it gets better for you!
  12. My fav is palak paneer, but I also grill veg and paneer like you grill chicken after marinating it. You can use green/red peppers, broccoli, mushrooms, paneer cubes, tomatoes, eggplant, asparagues etc. You can marinate with yogurt and spices or currry paste for an hour or 2 and grill and enjoy them.

    Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

100 calorie snacks are helping me... late at night is my worst, I want to snack and snack.. so I save up 400 calories for late night snacking, and I only have 100 calorie snacks. Yo Crunch has these new 100 calorie yogurt packs.. it's a vanilla or cheesecake yogurt, with crunchy candy bits you pour inside. Oh my.. it's 70 calories lighter than my normal yogurt and tastes better. Cheesecake one...mmmmmmmm. Says it's sweetened with Truvia, I guess I'm a fan of truvia now. Did I tell you guys I was looking into daycare for 2-3x a week? The place I checked first, was wonderful, but I couldn't afford it. Called La Petit which is about .5 miles from work, and they said they have discounted rates for companies in the area-I can afford it, but I don't know anything about them, so we're doing a tour tomorrow. They are a nationwide daycare 'chain', anyone else have experience with them or have any thoughts on them???

    Any August 2017 Sleevers?

Hello Dandelion 247! I too am 4 day post op & im experiencing simlar feelings as you are. Most of the pain I feel ,from reading what you said, is most likely from where the extra stomach was pulled out. I find that an ice pack for about 5-10 mins helps. But over all my pain has been tolerable enough I dont have to take my Norco but since i wake up at night with a pain that feels like severe hunger pains, i think tonight before bed i will take some. Hopefully i will be able to get a good nights rest! Today I managed to get down a little more than 24 oz of water & 60gs of premier protein drink. Plus I had 4 oz of warm chicken soup. Since I able to eat yogurt & cottagae chesse. I might try those tomorrow. Im glad you mention that being patient & not letting this be a weight loss race. That good advice. I convinced myself to only weigh 1 week at a time. I weighed myself yesterday just out of curiousity & im down 8 lbs since the day of my surgery! I want make sure i slow down some so my skin wont get to flabby before i can get back to the gym! Sent from my SM-T530NU using BariatricPal mobile app

    Did It Work?

This post is common - I have no idea how you can eat a 14 oz steak after this surgery I am lucky if i can eat 4oz. You are at a crossroads, same position most of us hit. You are head hungry not really hungry, sorry seems brutal but once the shock and awe was over you are losing the battle in your head not your stomach. My view is you need a nutritionist or a deep study into nutrition. The surgery is a tool it shrunk your stomach by 85% and removed the nerves that made you feel hungry. Couple of things you did not mention you should be filling up on Protein Shakes Loaded with vitamins and supplements. This will make you feel incredible without calories. I am out about 120 days and there is not a chance in hell i would try and eat steak or any solid hard food. I suggest you set a daily routine - If you read around here there are a ton of people who have posted there Routine. here is mine set by a Paid Nutritionist 1. Breakfast - 10 oz protien shake 30g protien 20 Calories, Two heaping Yogurt spoon fulls Vitamin Powder and Supplement Powder. I also add a few pieces of fruit for taste - 8 blueberrys or 3 cut peaches or a few strawberrys- You drink this over 30 min and no way you are hungry! 2. 10:00 Am - A Protien Bar - High end good quaility Bar - If i need it usually dont 3. Lunch - This is a tough one for me due to work so usually - Handful of peanuts, granola or maybe some chuncked fish or turkey 4. 2:00 Here comes another Protien shake - Usually add Peanut butter or some other funky Yogurt etc 5. 5:30 By dinner i am whipped so really have no desire to eat, usually skip about half the time - Scallops, Shrimp, Fish or a simple protein, Side is usually some small veggie 6. 40oz water a day - I CAN SAY I HATE WATER BUT IT IS A KEY TO FLUSHING OUT AND KEEPING THE KETOSIS GOING. i have this down where i can adjust my loss from .05 pounds per day up to 3/4 a day - I am also very active so that really helps me out. Summary - You have completed step one the surgery - Step two is the diet and intake - The mind is brutal on this surgery and head games to me are harder then the dang surgery to me - You said size i have gone from a size 50 pants to 42 currently and this is the reward! We all were food addicted no doubt - THe US is freakin disgusting with how we eat, Huge portions, all processed and filled with sugar. Good luck and you will get it - I have stalled a few times due to Vodka and M and M's so its not like your alone

    Switching to soft foods

Yogurt, cottage cheese, chicken, fish, shrimp, avocado, deli meat, cheese, eggs, and soups. Beef was on the list however, unless its cooked for a long time like in a stew, I cannot get it chewed to the consistency that is required. So I stay away from beef. Chicken and tuna are my go to. Just remember chew, chew, chew.

    February Bandsters?

So nice to read a post from you...it's been awhile! You did not mention any recent appointments with your surgeon. From what I have read, hunger between meals means that the band is in need of adjustment. I am just starting to get hungry, and that's the time I get a glass of the milk or cup of yogurt I am supposed to have 2 times a day. I don't see my surgeon until 3/29, and he has already told me that he will not be adjusting my band at that appointment. My band is still empty. Great work so far...happy for both of us!

    February Bandsters?

Hi Heather, I am 4 days banded and doing fine. There is some pain, shoulders as reported by others, and sore belly making it hard to get up and out of chairs and bed, but other than that doing fine. I went shopping a few days before my surgery so that I would have a variety of things on hand. I bought the Low Carb Slim Fast and they are fine. Also bought some EAS protein powder. Also bought some soups to blend. I checked out the protein content and discovered that pea, lentil, and bean are higher than most soups. Someone suggested Progresso Tuscany Chicken; I had that yesterday and not too bad. Some of the other things I got are sugar-free jello and popsicles, Lite V8 Splash, variety of tea flavors, black beans and tomatoes ( I heard it's good when you blend them together for a soup; haven't tried it yet though). Also bought some Greek vanilla yogurt to add to the protein smoothies to kick the protein up a notch. Yesterday I made a banana protein smoothie but you have to be careful these first two weeks of the chunks left in it. Blend it really really well. Today I made one with blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries, but it had way too much pulp and seeds left in it so I had to strain it really well. Probably won't make that one again. Tasted good though. Don't forget the chapstick because you really will need it. Walk around as much as you can afterwards, and use your spirometer to keep your lungs clear. Didn't do that 2 yrs. ago and ended up in the emergency room. Good luck......you will do fine.
  23. I didn't have a clear liquids phase , I had to drink 2 choc shakes before leaving the hospital ( I was in for 5 days for vomiting) I was on shakes for 2 weeks and had no more vomiting issues then I started full liquids and did okay with yogurts . Then I was allowed eggs and puréed stuff and was able to keep some soups down and some puréed tuna.. Eggs didn't sit no matter how soupy. Now I'm on soft foods and the only thing that never causes an issue is cheese. Sometimes I can eat something and it's fine and then the next time I try the same food it comes right back up. I'm cleared for all foods on Friday but I don't see that happening since I can't even handle most soft foods now. I'm going to try all shakes for a few days and work on getting in fluids because I've been dizzy lately if I bend over so I want to concentrate on rehydrating. The doc says everything is fine and just I'm a slow healer!! Hopefully back tracking a little helps

    Any good liquid food ideas?

1 week post op what saved me was going to sprouts and getting there chicken noodle soup mainly broth , straining it and measuring 2oz every few hours was soo amazing! And 2 weeks post op i could no longer do protein drinks so i ate protein yogurt some brands were higher protein less sugar than others i always made sure to stay under 15grams of sugar per anything. Best of luck!
  25. Foods like yogurt are pretty slippery and soft, so you usually don't feel the restriction or satiety with them that you do with something more solid like meat or cheese, so it is quite normal that you can eat more yogurt than the nominal 2-3 ounces that is often stated. I could likewise go through a normal 5-6 oz yogurt serving at that time, though I usually just kept it to 4 oz as that was adequately satisfying for me, and provided enough protein for that particular meal/snack (though by that time I was also throwing in a few berries for added nutrition and variety.)
