  1. I think if the pharmacy doesn't have records, I will pick years 2001 and 2003 to add to '05, 07, 08, 09 and 10. Thanks, I'm not ready to throw in the towel, by any means. When you finally get to the place where you are fed up with the weight and summon up the courage to make a surgery your decision... you sure don't want not going to the Dr. one year four years ago to get in the way! thanks all.

    Period won't go off

Mine has been weird I had my period the week before my procedure. So for my first period after lasted 10 days when before surgery they would last 3 or 4. It was light 3 days heavy 3 days then light again 4 days.

    Sliming

I had never had a problem with cream of wheat before this, that's why I ordered it. But I asked that it be served VERY HOT (the way I like it). I think that by the time I swallowed it down, HOT, it dried up even more in my throat and got stuck. It was very painful! And, yes, 3 hours is forever when you are sick. By the time I drank the warm tea, the pain was unbearable! Then, just as fast as it started, it went away. Within 10 minutes of drinking 2 sips of tea, I was fine. Never want to go through that again!
  4. I was banded on yesterday.. Honestly I haven't had a whole lot of discomfort as of yet.. I was instructed to walk every hour for 10 minutes.. My husband set alarms. He has been my doctor at home.. I used the heating pad on my shoulder , a lil pain there.. I'm not sure if the fact that I am taking the pain pill every four hours on time is why I'm not really feeling the gas pain that others talk about.. It's like I'm waiting for it. I ended up having a hernia repair also... So far so good so good looking forward to the next phases.

    December 2018 VGS weight management

definitely get on top of that ASAP. It'll be a lot easier to lose 10 lbs than 50! If you're not still weighing, measuring, and logging your food, I'd start there. do keep in mind, though, that a 10-20 lb rebound weight gain is very common in year 3. It's just your body settling into whatever weight it wants to be. That's not to say you're stuck there - you CAN lose it - but if this your body's new "set point", just be aware that it's going to take some work to get down to - and maintain - a lower weight.

    Recovery questions!

I was almost in the same boat as you. I have a 9 month old and an 8 yr old both born through C-section. My Kaiser doctor had me restricted for 3 weeks nothing over 10 pounds. Sadly even with my husband home that was impossible. But I did do my best to have him do most of the lifting (exp: out of the bath tub, out of the crib). It doesn't hurt to lift BUT the restrictions are in place so you do tear and cause a leak. Now I will say the night I was in the hospital I got some sharp gas pains. Lasted about 2 min and way worse than the C-Sections!!! Thank god it was only 2 minutes!! Lol!
  8. Here's the science behind some weight loss stalls, if you're interested: http://www.justinowi...nd-glycogen-de/ Basically it comes down to this - glycogen is your short term fuel, and first to get depleted in the weight loss battle. Glycogen is usually the source of that AMAZING first week weight loss of 7-10 pounds. Glycogen takes a LOT of Water to store, so when you use up all that quick-access energy, the water goes with it. Eventually your body goes "We need more glycogen!" and starts rebuilding those stores... with the water it needs. Because your body is now storing up that extra water (which weighs a lot), that can lead to short term weight loss stalls even though you're still using up fat and losing inches!
  9. Surgery on 3/19 8:30 am Nauseated with dry heaves all day and night 3/20 much better. Peed on my own, walked a lot and drank small sips of Water and broth and released but did need pain meds 3/21 woke up with really tight back muscles, worst pain so far. Started farting this morning :-) Gas hasn't been bad as its coming out. So far so good. Keep the prayers coming. For those on the fence about surgery, I cried and almost left the hospital numerous times but just kept going through the motions... And, nothing has been as bad as I have imagined. I have a great surgeon... Still worried about leaks and clots, but I'm a hypochondriac! Can't wait until I feel I'll really be "okay" and start looking forward to my goals. :-) Best of luck to you! :-)

    Alcohol - when?

I was 6 weeks post op and my dr okayed a drink here and there socially. I had a wedding and drank 2 Malibu bay breezes couple hours apart. Took forever to drink, but it was delish! I didn't get a quick buzz. I'm now 10 weeks post op and tried a vodka drink and as soon as I drank it I knew sleeve didn't like it and I didn't drink it. Sw 276 (start of 7 day pre op diet) sleeved 5/5/15 Cw 201
  11. When do we get to go to a regular diet? I was sleeved 10/26/16 and I'm finishing my last few days of full liquids. Then I have 2 weeks of pureed then I go to soft diet but it doesn't say how long the soft diet lasts before going to regular foods. What does everyone else's program say? Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
  12. I went to my primary care Dr today and she was all for the lap band surgery! I called the Dr that will be doing it and scheduled my Orientation! It is set for August 9th. I was told that I have to lose 10% of my weight before I can have the surgery. My question is, do I start doing that now, or do I wait until after orientation? Is it hard to lose the 10%? What did you all find as the easiest and quickest way to lose it? I am going to have to lose about 26.5 pounds as of right now. I can schedule my surgery after losing 5%. How long should it take me to lose that weight? I am so excited, I cant wait!!

    Not Sure What's The Issue

oh wow, I'm having these exact symptoms and have had my band for 3 years. Just got on this web site to see what might be wrong. I have to pay cash every time I go to the lap band doctor so I'm putting it off... On the bright side...at least I might be finally losing some weight. I lost a whole 10 lbs after paying for a $12, 000 surgery. Anyway, thanks for the blog.

    Newbie: Banded Sept. 6th...

10 lbs in a month is great, plus you haven't had any fiil. You're worrying like most of us have. I had my surgery on September 1st and just had my first fill October 3rd. My goal is to loose 10 lbs a months and when I went to the doctors, I had reached my goal. Although I was so disappointed in myself because the week before my first fill, oh my, not only was I recovered from having surgery (which makes you hungry) I also had that PMS hunger . It wasn't good, I won't lie. The night before my appointment I even had nightmares my doctor was yelling at me. Well to my suprises, my doctor was so kind, he looked at me and said why are you beating yourself and much have you gained? He opened my chart and said you lost 10 lbs since surgery and you had no fill , your doing great. I have the best doctor, I won't lie, he's very motivating. We sometimes need to remember, we didn't put this weight on overnight and we surely aren't going to take it off overnight. I even wish that I everyday, but for me I know its more realistic for me to set smaller goals. 10lbs a month, I think I can do it, and I have to have faith in myself that I will do it. I still have 90 lbs to go and hopefully by next summer, I will be able to put a swim suite on for the first time and not feel like a beached whale. I see people some people loose quickly on this site and everyone is different. I even read alot of people having issues with the band on here and I try not to focus on negatives. It will happen, have faith and good luck in your journey.

    Holiday Get Togethers

@@LessOfMe0503 hi i am not a cook/baker et al if i put 4 pots of Water on stove "usually" i will be successful that they won't burn LOL i asked my sister to bring her "famous" artichoke" dip on thanksgiving the reason i asked her to bring it is because i wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole (yeach) i bring things to gatherings that i hate!! that way i'm not tempted to eat any of it sorry i don't have any healthy suggestion to give you maybe you can buy something you don't like too (can be hard to do, since i like everything LOL) same thing for halloween (hard to find candy i don't like) !!!! glad you did well with thanksgiving pat yourself on the back stay strong for the holiday season it is hard for many (me) people i know you can do it!! kathy Your strategy is the exact opposite of what I was thinking, so I took a little while to wrap my brain around it! I was thinking of things I could take, that I knew I could eat. It never occurred to me to take something I WOULDN'T eat!

    Aetna is covering VSG

It is really overwhelming. I've had the band and now the sleeve. Just from my experience, the sleeve is fabulous. I would say to research the good, bad and ugly of the band. I thought I would be one of the lucky ones and beat the statistics with the band. Unfortunately, I only had my band 8 months, and then revised to the sleeve. I do not regret my band decision because it taught me a lot about myself, and my eating habits. But, it damaged my stomach tissue, it was a horrific experience. My quality of life was in the toilet. Here is some interesting information from the band manufacturers. 1 in 4 band patients will have to have another surgery to repair a band issue, or remove it entirely. It now has the lowest and slowest weight loss results. Also, I have never found one band patient that has had their band for at least 10 years without a slip, or other major complication at some point. I did find one patient on OH that has had her band for 9 years, but she is now seeking a revision because of the chronic issues she's struggled with over those years. She had her band replaced once around the 5 or 6 year mark because the band leaked and she lost restriction.

    New food intolerances after revision?

I find that I can't have the protein bars or shakes that I relied on before and after VSG. Now, they are too sweet and (sorry, TMI) I almost immediately get the shakes (dumping) and will probably have to run to the bathroom. And really, that's what's changed the most after my revision to RNY - I haven't had more than maybe 5 normal BMs in 19 months.

    Does Diabetes affect weight loss?

Hi...I had surgery on 8/29/18, I am diabetic as well, I am actually losing weight rather quickly 10 lbs in the first 7 days, 21 lbs down since surgery and my A1C was bad also, almost 10, since surgery I have come off all meds and my blood sugars are between 100-120, my endocrinologist took me off the meds. As I lose more weight and exercise my numbers should get even better. I don’t eat many carbs but berries and such a small amount, I choose less carbs because I want to have good control of my blood sugars. I wish you the best!

    Surgery today in TJ Mexico

Good luck! Let us now how it goes. I fly out on the 9th surgery on the 10 th with Dr. Alvarez in Piedras Niegras. Can't believer it's almost time.
  20. This is the third time since my surgery two months ago. I woke up in the middle of the night with horrible pain from acid in my esophogus. This morning I was coughing and choking as if some went down my windpipe. It is very uncomfortable. I get up and take an antacid tablet and chew on some oyster crackers and it goes away in about 10-15 minutes, but boy is it painful. I'm going to call my doctor on Monday but I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this.

    Breast Cancer 3 day Walk

Welcome to the Breast Cancer 3-Day: Home As requested, here is the link to this event. It is taking place in several cities and requires a commitment to raise at least $2,200 (71% of the proceeds go directly to research). It is a pretty intense training schedule. Basically if you are walking 15-20 miles a week you can start the more intense schedule which consists of a 4 mile walk twice during the week and then back to back longer walks on the weekends. For example, I am walking 10 miles on Saturday and then 10 miles on Sunday this week. Next week will be 12 miles on Saturday and then 6 miles on Sunday. http://www.thewalkingsite.com/3dayschedule.html Here is a link to a good training schedule! I am finding it challenging to figure out what I should be eating to get through those long walks on the weekends. I am finding I am craving more carbs, but those are notoriously harder for me to eat with my band. I try to take along nuts and dried fruit as a snack on the long training days and then stick to 1200-1500 cal during the week. I have only lost 4 lbs in the last month while training, but I lost 1 inch off my hips and 3/4 inch off my waist and an incredible 2 inches off my arms (gained 1/2 inch on my thighs from all that muscle:) I started to train for this event as a way of setting an outrageous but fully attainable goal of walking 20 miles a day for 3 days!! It keeps me motivated and I am learning I want to eat better because I can get more out of my body that way. If anyone wants to join me in Arizona Nov 14-16 we can see about putting a team together!

    Bypass on June 6!!

Congrats!! My surgery is also on June 6th, Pre Surg class on the 5/19, Pre op on 6/1 and Covid on 6/3. Good luck and congrats again!!
  23. I am only two months Post surgery and Since I paid cash did not have to deal with any of the Bullshit you guys did with insurance. I also have a brother 3 months ahead of me so between the two of us we got experience. To put this in perspective I got as confused and buffeted as you guys are on this site. My doctor had support groups and books and flyers and found it all to be one big jumble of a mess that was not easy to understand and Since I am a typical Male - Give me a damn list and i will follow it. So I went a different route and hired a Nutritionist in my area, one that specializes in Medical diets like for cancer! Here is the program that we got calibrated in under two weeks. Not going to give you the fluff just the program - 1. Forget Food - Food is a luxury and to painful to eat and to think you have to eat enough to meet your requirements - My view Screw food - 2. Get a Blood work up from a local lab - Full work up will tell you all your vitamin levels as you currently are - you have a baseline to work off 3. First few weeks are recovery - My view Survive, It sucks! 4. Now its time to set the Nutrition plan - 15 days after surgery 5. Protein shakes from Sams are key, Be careful some shakes are loaded with Carbs and sugar, Sams has the cheapest and the best for you. - FYI I hate protien shakes but trust me this will make your life a lot easier. - Here is my recipe but you need to set your own levels ------3/4 Protein shake, w/ 1 scoop of whey protein, Ice, GNC 50 plus vitamin Powder, Nutricost Pure D-Ribose Powder (250 Grams) , frozen fruit, 2 tablespoons yogurt, and two sugars. i drink a 8oz every morning by 10 am - You will be full of energy - 1/2 Nutrition vit and min. and No way you are hungry. ----- Twice a day i take the following pills - GNC multi vitamin and Cardio vit and Bariatric Vitamin. Around 1:00 and 3:00 - ---- Twice a day i Take a vegetable blend drink with Kale and other nutrients and mixes - I buy the pre made from Sams. That is pretty much it for me every day for the last few months - I don't need any food because i have exceeded my vit and nutrients for the day and the protein. Eating is to much of a pain in the ass to me, Hurts, and Just not worth it, I was going every week for a blood work up - after 5 days of above my levels were perfect, You will feel the difference and energy level will sky rocket! Most of the issues are mental, and i fully understand - But once you plow thru the head games and get calibrated - life is way better! Best decision i ever did
  24. Reposting this from another board by a fellow sleeve vet I have a lot of respect for Elina_7. I have this printed out on my desk and read it all the time. Sorry for the eye-bloodying wall of text - VST wont let me edit unless it is pasted from a word document. "This is a post for those of you that think that this surgery will get you to your goal, and I am here to share the bad news with you that it will not. This surgery alone will most likely only lead you to lose to about 50-60% of EW all by itself (on average, some people lose much less and others more). That is the bad news. The good news is that this does not have to be your fate. You can make a choice to do much better than this statistic. You can choose to lose all the way to 100% EW and be in the top 10% of sleeve patients. You really can do this and than keep your results. I am here at four years into my maintenance sharing this with you from my personal experience as well as observation. You can reach goal and you can keep it. This is what it takes (from my point of view) to get there and to stay there. 1) You will read about many programs on OH and your doctor will have their own program, my experience tells me that in most cases, the 600-800 cals, over 80 grams of Protein, under 40 grams of carbs is the way to go. Others will disagree, and I am OK with that. This is my post and my opinion and my observation. There is no way that I would have reached goal on 1200 calories. That is my maintenance level eating. This of course might need to be tweaked on an individual basis. If you are an athlete and workout multiple hours a day, or if you have a different goal than I did or if you have a super fast metabolism or are a guy and have tons of muscle, than maybe eating more calories will work for you. If you are a woman, petite, not a youngster, and work out an hour or so a day, in most cases, the higher calories will not get you to goal. Are there exceptions, of course there are exceptions. Are those exceptions common? No, they are not. 2) If you go into this with without realizing that the first six months to a year is all about your weight loss, you are cheating yourself. I read posts on here about how to add flavor to foods and often the point is about making this more palatable. There is nothing wrong with adding spices, or finding low carb, nutritious alternatives to some foods, however, when your focus is anything other than maximizing your weight loss, you are sabotaging your progress and your opportunity of reaching that elusive 100% EW. I can honestly tell you that I think I would have eaten cardboard in those early months if that was required of me. The dedication needs to be to the process, the rest is not that important. Find your groove with certain home made lean Proteins and mostly eat that until goal. This is not rocket science, eat 2-3 ounces of protein and eat low carb veggies as Snacks. 3) Do not allow relationships to get in your way. I don't care if you have kids, or an unsupportive husband, or parents choose to undermine your efforts. That might sound callous, but really, I don't care and neither should you. This next six months to a year is about you and you alone. This is your selfish time, the time when nothing comes before you. If you can't have certain foods in the house, get rid of them. If your spouse sabotages you, stop them. Speak up, find your voice, set your boundaries and do not allow anyone to take your mind off the prize. You matter, you are important, you are precious, and you must find the strength to do the right thing for yourself. If the people in your life are not supportive of your efforts, minimize your contact, or set firm limits. You are in charge and you will not allow anyone to get in your way. 4) Find the warrior in you and give yourself over that part of you for now. Find your type A personality, your alpha and your OCD parts and marry them to get one heck of a fighter. This is not a passive experience, this takes guts, sweat and tears. This takes being over focused on the minutia of your eating and exercise. This is a second job, a new baby, a big deal. This is not about passively taking what comes your way. You must drive this and you must take full control and responsibility. This will not be easy, but it is worth it, really, really worth it. Stop thinking that it will just happen, stop thinking that it should be easy, stop thinking that this shouldn't take a good deal of your time and energy or that it will be convenient. It will not be any of these things, and yet, in the end, you will love the results and remember the process with fondness. You will feel proud to own your results. This journey will change you, and I don't just mean your weight. In the end, it comes down to an age old question; how badly do you want this?"
