  1. I feel you marfar7! I had a slip and had to have a revision in the hospital to adjust my band. It started back in Oct(almost 2 years from lpbd anniversary). I have 5 cc in my band now and surgeon says that is all I can tolerate. He has tried 2x to get more in, but watching with barium swallow it doesn't pass. So I have gained 10-15 lbs and have to wear size 10s instead of my 8s. I am now on a diet to loose the extra weight as I have to control myself. I admit that I cheated because we all know that sliders are easy and excessive calories. He has advised me to stay uner 1200 calories to loose and 1400 to stay the same. Best wishes, I hope that you can fidn teh answer you are looking for!!!!Karen
  2. What We know what living obese is like. We know the lost opportunities of obesity. We know the rush of gluttony ... of sugar racing thru the veins of finally feeling full. We know fat prejudice. We know the health challenges. What we forget: The courage it takes to make a change. The power of self love to commit to body altering surgery The commitment. To this new life... We’ve been fat longer. We’ve eaten badly longer. We’ve eaten our emotions longer. We are naturally better at obesity then at being post surgery. It’s easy, comfortable even to fall back into familiar stinking thinking and food. What are you doing for your new way of life that supports staying on track? How are you retraining your mind? Be mindful of the favorite foods that helped to keep you fat. They will sing their siren song and woo you back if you do not change your thinking. Is there a revision surgery in your future? Is food going to win....again? I’m wishing everyone a safe and wonderful Christmas where the food gremlins don’t pull you back into their seductive arms. Be vigilant. Be courageous. Be full of self love and stay the course! (Can you hear me struggling[emoji8])

    Band :-(

I was banded 3 years ago and lost around 43 lbs, (dress size 22 to 14) then the band started to act up. I had it deflated a few times and never could find the right spot. The band if now 1/2 filled and I still have problems. I on occasion regurg, but I just stay on thinner stuff. The heartburn and reflux is horrible, had none before banding. I use to be the healthy fat person, now I'm still 25+ and live horribly. I went to my primary Dr who said get it out, saw a GI dr who wants an endoscopy on Monday he says get it out and revise to sleeve. I see the surgeon Thursday. So my big questions are: how different is post op sleeve from band ( the first year I had the band I had no problems ). Will I loose the 25 lbs with a sleeve. Hopefully my insurance co will pay.

    Frightened Of The Fills!

I'm more scared of going to my gyno than getting fills. The needle poking is easy as pie, it hurts when they pushed on my port (which might be since it was flipped). And I've been jabbed multiple times, each time. As for fills, it seems to be common that the first fill doesn't do very much in the way of what you can eat. Since my first 4 fills didn't 'really' fill me up, when they revised my port and he filled me while I was under, he put 1cc (which is 'aggressive'-for him), and I have to say I feel like I'm at a great restriction. liquids go down with NO problem. I'm intolerant of breads at the moment.. and I can only eat 1/4c of food at once (finally!). I'm really happy to finally get to this point. I don't miss being able to eat a lot, I've been struggling to find this restriction for months.

    Lap Band Removal

Thx for the info! I'm already emotional abt it all! All I do is research, and look for answers online. I'm mad that I have to go through this. I thought of revision, but the fact that it could slip again or erode??!! Ummm just not enough confidence to make me revise. I know it was never guaranteed but I swore it was a one time thing!! BUT now after researching like a nut...I see sooooo Many complication stories: slips & erodes--scary! I won't let that happened to me again! I'm worried abt weight gain. I have been with a personal trainer for 5 weeks & now I have to give that up for awhile I guess bc of the surgery. I'm gonna miss my aqua classes :-( I'm more mad abt not being able to exercise the way I have been lately :-( How long does it take to be able to exercise!?
  7. Hey guys, I am thinking about having an endoscopic gastric bypass revision. Has anyone completed this? Wondering about weight loss and if there was any complications? Would you recommend for others? I want a revision but the down time for surgical is tricky, so hoping this could be a good options.

    Today Is The Day

5 years ago today I had my lapband procedure and was well over 325lbs( after losing from 365 from first part of the year) I at my lowest was 180, but have had some complications over the past year and currently are at 202. Today I go in for a band revision/new band hopefully, or possible removal! I am hoping for the first! At first I wanted it out and over with , but after I got my strength and appetite back I quickly realized WHY I have my band Slips are no fun, not 2!!! So, I am hoping next time I most I will be a new 2012 bandster!!!! Traci

    Sleeve to Bypass weight loss

I have lost 75lbs 10 months post sleeve to RNY revision.

    Removal 6/3/13

I haven't had any issues, but I've heard of many people have. It's definitely not the right solution for every single person. Are you going to revise to the sleeve? Or just take it out and be done with the whole thing?
  13. Technical failure would be a slip, erosion, pouch dilation, etc., for the band. If you've got Cigna, that's the insurance I have, and I eventually won my appeals after my surgeon did a peer-to-peer with their medical director. Like I said, even though my insurance required a technical failure of the band, I was still able to get my revision approved without one. It just required more work to get it approved.
  14. First, you have to look at your insurance requirements, to see if there are any restrictions regarding a second WLS. Then, visit a surgeon (look for one that is highly experienced with revisions) to find out the status of your band, whether it has slipped, etc. Make a note of all possible complications that you've experienced. In my case, I had severe GERD because of the band and couldn't tolerate any Fluid in the band at all. I was also on my second band because my first one had slipped badly and had to be replaced. Make a note of any obesity-related comorbidities that you may still have or that have developed since having the lap-band. I'm not going to lie to you, it can be an uphill battle to get a revision, unless you're experiencing something urgent like a slip or erosion. Generally, even if your insurance allows it, you'll have to meet all of their requirements for WLS again, and even then, you might have a fight. I'm having my revision to RNY tomorrow, and it took almost 8 months for me to get approved by my insurance, since I had to meet all the requirements again AND fight them for 3 months for approval, since they were trying to deny me because there wasn't a "technical malfunction" of my band.

    severe reflux

With this surgery, chances are if you had reflux pre surgery you will likely have it after. I'm not a Doctor though so I'm only guessing, but it just makes sense to me. Anyway, I do take Omeprazole every morning. I was only told by my surgeon to take it for the first 6 month post op, however I have no real intention of ever stopping taking it. The studies show too much evidence that reflux is a big issue with the sleeve. I'd rather keep my acid under control rather than "chance it" and end up damaging my esophagus so much I have to revise to RNY or DS. I honestly do not think my body can handle either of those surgeries and need to practice some preventative medicine here. To combat the Calcium deficiency, I take 1500 mg of calcium citrate a day making sure not to take it with Iron, and taking Vitamin D and Magnesium for super potency and absorption. All of this to me is a small price to pay for my health and fitness. If I didn't do all this I'd end up with a stroke, Type 2 diabetes or heart disease, even cancer. All of these run in my family, and I was already diagnosed with hypertension at 31 years old. I was headed no where and fast. I was placed on 4 maximum dosage pills per day to bring my BP down. Today I'm down to only ONE!!! It's the minimum dose and to date my BP has been excellent. It's only a matter of time before my PCP takes me off of that too. You really have to consider your choices when you do this. Think about your future, look at your relatives when making this decision too. If they have something, chances are you will too if you continue with very bad habits. Hang in there, don't sweat the small stuff.

Stall - revision sleeve to bypass

How much have you lost since your revision? Sometimes during stalls, we don't lose pounds, but we are losing inches. I think it also depends on how much weight you have to lose. The less you have to lose, the slower weight loss can be. And stalls can happen all along the weight loss journey. I think they're a normal part of the process. It's our bodies/metabolisms adapting to the changes our bodies are going through. I'm only 6 weeks post op Band to Bypass revision. But I seem to be a slower loser than those with virgin bypasses. My restriction is there, depending on what I eat. Of course I feel it more with denser proteins. Compared to my Band, the Bypass seems to feel completely natural, unlike my Band. When I was able to start exercising, and increased my calories a bit, I noticed the scale started moving better. I hope to be released tomorrow to be able to lift weights again, I know that will also help me more. Best Wishes!

    Zero Appetite

I just hit 4 weeks since revision to bypass and barely able to eat either. Saw my dr yesterday and he said no problem. Concentrate on protein and fluid right now. Fine to get protein from shakes.
  18. I would like to hear from those of you who originally had Gastric Bypass surgery and then revised to the Gastric Sleeve. My bypass surgery was December 2005. I managed to lose about 80-90 lbs. (size 24/26W down to a size 10/12). Unfortunately...my success was short lived and I never reached my goal weight of 145 lbs. My recent endoscopy showed my bowels were twisted...esphogus was messed up and my pouch was made too large. Had a few issues with terminal gas..lol...acid reflux...digestion issues...etc. Was sleeved on 2/10...and so far so good. My surgeon specializes in revisions so im very confident that I will not only have better success this time...but I will also reach and/or pass my goal of 145. He went in and corrected all of the previous mistakes from my first surgery as well as ensuring my new stomach is nice and small. What has it been like for those of you who made the switch?

  20. Check out my post "where are the other strugglers?" On the band to sleeve board for a few other stories about those having a hard time with the revision.
  21. My original RNY was done in December 2000, and it was very successful, I lost 12 stone and life was good! I started to regain around 10 years post op nothing too drastic, but I had awful GERD and I was still vomiting sometimes which I thought was odd. Anyway fast forward to 2022 and I went to see about a revision, turns out after a gastroscopy I had a rare complication called candy cane syndrome and a fistula from the pouch to the old stomach! I went in for what should have been keyhole to end up having a full open operation as the surgeon could not find where one of the limbs from my previous surgery was connected to and my intestines were twisted (apparently called an intestinal hernias). Great it was not! I am now almost 5 weeks tomorrow post operation and getting back on my feet. I have been surprised at the weight loss 24lbs currently, which I guess will slow down as I only have 70lbs to loose now. I am also really shocked at the level of aftercare you get now! I'm at the soft food stage, and yesterday I found out I cannot eat fish pie yet! Two hours of pain then eventually throwing it all up. I had truly forgotten how horrible that is, my chest hurt and my throat was still sore this morning. Hoping it is not too soon after the surgery to be ill after eating, but pleased it's done and I can move on with it now.

    Gastric Sleeve Surgery 2/20/2019

I’m on 2/20 also in Southern California, not on liquids until the day before surgery. Have to take milk of magnesia at noon and that’s about it. I am having my lapband taken out and revisioning to sleeve so hopefully all goes smooth! Good luck to you! Glad I found this website!

    Denver area?

Does anyone know how I would go about finding a reputable and experienced VSG surgeon in the Denver, CO area? I currently have a lapband, but am considering revision to a vertical sleeve. My band surgeon is very new at doing VSG I believe, because in the past he has always said he only did Band or RNY (as does his website), but today he told me he does VSG but only recently. I don't know if I should stick with him or if I should look for someone more experienced, and how to even begin looking? Thanks!
