Shouldn't I feel more sick?
KWeilbrenner09 replied to brennafaith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had severe nausea the first two days after surgery. After that, none. In fact, I only take my nausea meds to help me sleep at night. I'm one week post op, so next Monday 12/9 I'll transition to puréed and see how I do! Band removal and possible sleeve revision in the morning
MsPerisha replied to DecemberSleeve's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Glad things went well. I am seriously thinking of a revision. Was your process the same as your initial surgery...such as required documents to show attempts of losing weight, seeing many professionals prior to (psych, nut), and the length of time in general ( initial interest to surgery date)? I have been researching revision for days and was hoping to get more info!! -
New to the group Bypass or Sleeve?
FDclerical replied to Mrs.Tricey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Both are major surgeries ! I had my sleeve 4 years ago and dealt with Gerd very painful heartburn and my sleeve was twiated. I was just revised on 12.27 with hiatal hernia repair to bypass. Very happy so far and healing well. I still do not and will never regret My sleeve but you have to decide that for yourself. If you have Gerd and I wouldn't suggest it. Both are amazing tools!!! foreverbariatric Sent from my GalaxyNote4 using the App -

CIGNA - supervised diet requirement
FDclerical replied to nightcheese's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have cigna and I actually went in for a revision and they approved me 100%. Oct 19th. Nov. 11th and Dec 8th were my NUT appointments. I don't even think it was a full 90 days that I did lol. Your stuff prior is not going to count. But your doc should still let you get all your other pre op requirements out the way while on your supervised diet program for sure !!! My approval was smooth too it took like 7 days and all the reps were very very helpful. Good luck I'm sure u will be fine especially if medically necessary! !!! foreverbariatric Sent from my GalaxyNote4 using the App -
Hi everyone. Here's a bit of my background Lapband done April 2011 Only lost 40 lbs Went in for revision to sleep Nov 5, 2016 And they were only able to take my band out Since it had slipped I needed time to recover. Friday is my surgery, and I decided to go bypass instead of sleeve. I'm very nervous, about dumping and feeling like I'm starving. Plus I'm a very thirsty person and I can chug a bottle of Water lol, so the sipping is going to be a huge adjustment. Anyone else having surgery in January, what day? And what surgery you getting? I'd love to have some fellow BariatricPal friends to embark on this new journey with! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Good luck to you JacquieK. I was banded in 2010, started at 260 with pre surgery weight of 245. I lost weight and was going great, but never got below 200 lbs. My Bariatric doctor moved his practice so I had 2 choices of doctors. Things were going well, so I didn't go to a new doctor for a while. (The next closest doctor was 1.5 hours away.) Fast forward a few years my weight crept up and my band was too tight. Met new doctor and took out some Fluid bc of pain and reflux. Still kind of in limbo bc of the distance to see the doctor and wanting to try another diet, (Which the new doc knew about), I finally came back to get back on track. All fluid is out. Did tests on my band bc I want it out. Unfortunately, all they found was a small hernia and my insurance will only pay for revision if medically necessary. Surgeon thinks we should continue with the band. I'm meeting with them in a couple days to express my concerns with staying with the band. I'm the heaviest I've ever been. Just want the get this all resolved so I can get healthy and be able to keep up with my kids Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

What do you tell ppl at work?
DecemberSleeve replied to silhouette's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am a lapband survivor too - and I think that is a reason why I have chosen not to tell anyone about my sleeve revision. It was kind of embarrassing to face the people who knew I had the lap-band when I regained weight after the slippage and unfill. I don't want to deal with any scrutiny or questions this time. When asking for the time off, I chose to be vague about needing medical care and needing to be out of the office. I do not feel anyone is entitled to more detailed info about my health than that. After all, if I was having a gynecologic surgery or hemorrhoids removed, I probably wouldn't want to tell the people at work details about those kinds of surgeries either, so people should know better than to pry. If people ask about the weight loss I'll just say that I am eating smaller portions and being more active (which is true after surgery for most of us after all). I had my sleeve revision Dec 29th and I am returning to work tomorrow (Jan 3rd). I do feel ready for it, thank goodness (the first two days after surgery were really tough but I felt significantly better after that and each day has been better since). My job isn't extremely physical though, and I was fortunate enough to not have any complications that made recovery slower. -

My hubby and I went to Juarez, Mexico. No, I had my RNY around 2 hours from where we live. My surgery went great but...I did have some problems with Strictures (scar tissue) I had to have 5 endoscopes with 4 dilations. Just never know who will or who won't have problems with them. My problems started within the first 6 weeks. I had my first Endoscope in Nov 2013, Dec 2013, Jan 2014, July 2014 and my last on Jan 2015. We should have known because it took them 45 minutes to cut thru the scar tissue from my other surgeries. I had much better care here in the states than my hubby received in Mexico. I did need to change Dr's. My Dr did a failed revision from his Lap-Band to a RNY. He ended up having abscesses and was sick for 9 months and 3 he doesn't remember. So then he ended up going to Mexico because we found out after 3 years going to the VA that he has Cancer in his kidney. In order for them to take care of it, he has to lose 150#'s because of his size they can't do surgery. Long story short that is why we ended up in Mexico. The sad thing is he has insurance but couldn't get his weight off. Sorry for the book. It's just a lot to talk about! -

Hunger Pains after Surgery?
KWeilbrenner09 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi All, I am a week post op and I have cramps in my stomach area that radiate to my whole abdomen. They are pretty uncomfortable and last for a couple of seconds. Are these hunger pangs? I didn't think I would have them after surgery! Katy W- Louisburg, NC Lapband revision to VSG with DS HW- 297 Weight at Surgery-279 CW- will update at two week appt -
I went in for a band adjustment, hopefully finding a doctor who knew what he was doing, and instead he suggested for me to get a revision to a sleeve after studying my recent history of problems finding my sweetspot. He never brought up RNY. I'm happy with the sleeve. I think if he did offer the RNY vs sleeve, I'd go for the sleeve. I read Dr. V's book on gastric sleeve (good book), and he said in his experience, of all WLS, the sleeve is the most natural and has the least complications.

Tell me it's worth it
Theotherkels replied to austrolatrishy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Our journeys are similar, just different timelines....I got my band in 2006, I still have it but it's coming out in the near future. I've gained back everything I lost due to a combination of hypothyroidism and pregnancy and most importantly not following the rules like I should. It's hard for me to admit that...but I hadn't truly dealt with my emotional eating issues and that was a problem. I developed reflux this last year and that started the ball rolling towards revision..and I've realized that I'm not the person I was 10 years ago. The stakes are higher.... I have a little boy who needs me, taking care of him means I need to take care of me and that is the most important thing. It's made all the difference in my commitment to my goal of being healthier...this time I'm making sure all the supports are in place (therapy, support groups, the works). Try to not focus on the horror stories...they'll just freak you out(I totally looked at them when I was first making my decision to revise and realized they weren't doing me ANY good at all because I'm a worrywart) Good luck with your decision -
Hello Everyone, Short story- 3 years ago I had a lap band placed. It worked pretty good for a few months when I began to have troubles eating foods like lettuce, chicken, veggies, etc. I have been fighting this issue this entire time, having my "stuck" episodes and constant adjustment with no sweet spot. Finally I had an unfill of almost all the Fluid and have left it. I still get stuck. I have finally hit a point where my weight is back up, I am tired of the pains associated with my port location and my band. So I have looked into a revision. I started out originally looking at getting converted to the Sleeve because the idea of not struggling with malabsorbtion is a bonus. Then after talking to the surgeon I plan to use, he stated I may need the RNY. I started reading up on both procedures and found lots of stories about people planning to get the sleeve but had to do RNY due to the damage their band caused. This is really opening me up to both ideas. I was just wondering what experience everyone had with revision and why you chose the surgery you did? I should mention that this will be an out of pocket expense for me and I will have to travel to Mexico, but I have a very good surgeon and know his nurse. My hopes are to have it done by the end of February. Feel free to share below. I wouldn't mind seeing progress pics or information from those who had revisions. Thanks!

Hi everyone, I had lapband surgery in 2009, and then it was removed in 2012. I had a huge issue with my gallbladder, which caused pancreatitis. I was in the hospital for a week, and also had been having complications with my band. The doctor at the time recommended that we take my band out, and do a revision. I feel like such a baby, I didn't feel like I was ready for a revision. I wish now I had done it. Fast forward to 2017, and I have gained all the weight back I lost with my band. I turn 41 this month and have mild hypertension. I can't seem to get the weight off, I will do really well for a bit, and then gain it all back again. I remember when I had my band, I went through a depression, because I had made food such an important part of my life. It was a friend whose relationship with me was changed drastically. I suppose that's what I fear, feeling down and depressed. Or having complications with the surgery. I've heard such horror stories. Gah! Tell me it's worth it. I'm 5'5" and weigh 302 pounds. I have four babies, I want to live to watch them grow up. My fear is holding me back a little bit. Part of me is determined to do whatever it takes. I just need to convince the other part.
