5.5 weeks, 40 days Post-op
Vegasurvivor replied to utsupatel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First. Who said that you have not made good progress?? Your expectations are too high. Your weight loss is amazing. Surgery is a tool. You are not going to lose 100 lbs overnight. Scale will go up and down. You will hit a stall and the scale doesn't move. Accept it and safe yourself the frustration. Sent from my Z970 using Tapatalk -
I'm so happy to finally have hit another milestone in my journey, being able to cross my legs was probably my most happiest next to this one. I however sometimes get depressed that I'm almost six months out and have only lost 50 pounds. I do not compare myself to other sleevers, I'm just more so disappointed in myself because there are days when the wrong items go into my pouch and this mostly happens right before my period when pmsing. Besides that I am still always really tired and fatigued but have upped my vitamin intake in hopes of gaining more energy and I do eat right majority of the time but after work most days I'm just beat. I don't have a lot of loose skin due to slower weight loss but I'm starting to wonder if I'll continue to drop. My next goal is to get under 200. Here are my current stats: Surgery Day: 259 September 1, 2016 Current Weight: 209

Sadly the hair loss is what it is. Yes, Biotin will help the regrowth to possibly grow faster but not guaranteed. The stretch marks I consider a reminder of how I will never go back to the weight I was. I do plan on plastics at some point so who knows where they will end up lol. And, yeah, the girls, ugh is all I am going to say.

Revision to RNY - Best decision
RJC5197 replied to betrthnever's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have banding from 22 years ago and been struggling with it, and constant weight gain and loss from just after 3 years after getting it. Until the end of last year I was told I had to put up with this, or only have band removed, but learned I can have revision to bypass and in process of having it done now. A new spring of hope has arrived, and thanks to all hear for your input. -
Has anyone lost weight eatting a higher carb diet
Bufflehead replied to lovely momma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What do you define as higher carb vs. lower carb? My surgeon's guidelines call for between 30 - 60 carbs per day, which is higher than some. I have seen some have a max of 20, 30, or 40 carbs per day. I keep my carbs under 60 and am happy with my weight loss. My surgeon's team really does want people to get a minimum of 30 carbs per day to keep up energy and strength levels. -
I have my 1st eval August 13th. My pcp is writing up a letter of recommendation so Ill be bringing that with me to my eval appt. Question about the 6 month supervised diet.. My pcp documented my last appt as a weight loss appt & she has me coming back next month so Ill have 2 under my belt Before my 1st eval with Beaumont So with that being said, will those appts count as supervised visits Or will it Not count thru my pcp & it has to be 6 visits from the beaumont weight loss place??

I, too, lost a lot of hair that is now growing back. It got very, very thin but I have lots of new growth. I'm 13 months out right now. I remember how frightening it was, but even though I have a way to go in the hair loss dept, it is getting better. Part of the process from what I have heard. Lots of posts to be found if you search around on the site.

To Mexico or not To Mexico....
filodough replied to wannalise's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I also had my surgery in Mexico with Dr. Alvarez. My experience was fantastic. I had a speedy recovery. The one thing that was tough was traveling because I did not have a lot of energy, but it was not unbearable. The level of care was excellent. I would say certainly research the surgeon that you will use (there are a few whose patients have rave reviews about them). The other thing that I got from folks on the boards is to make sure you have a good post-surgery support team. I enlisted a nutritionist, a therapist and I will be joining a weight loss support team this week. Feel free to ask me any questions. -
Calling all sleevers who weighed 280-310 lbs pre-sleeve
Floppie replied to Floppie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Julie, thank you so much for this, it is so inspirational to see, and good luck for your weight loss this week xxx -
I had my sleeve may 20th and in the past three weeks my hair has really been falling out. I have a lot of hair so I'm hoping it won't be to bad, and everything I'm reading says it should only last up to 3 months. I'm hoping for sooner! Good luck

My hair is really falling out now. Thank God I have a lot of hair. Has anyone tried something that works for them to keep it from falling out so much. I'm still having 2 protein shakes a day just because I like them and all my vitamins.

Hair Loss 3 Month Banded
ballajones replied to tonyann's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've read somewhere that low iron can cause hair loss as well. A month after starting a prenatal vitamin it stopped dramatically. I can honestly say my hair isn't falling out anymore -
Hair Loss 3 Month Banded
donna12 replied to tonyann's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
so far I haven't noticed any hair loss and I'm 4 months post op but my issues were very brittle ends and dryness, damaged looking. So some ladies on here told me about some products to order and I did, one being Moroccan oil for fine hair and I ordered it directly from their website, it's pricey but well worth it. Now my hair looks healthy again after just 2 applications. I sure hope my hair stays in and no hair loss, eek! -
Most women lose their hair and there is almost nothing you can do about it. I bought the Nioxin and the Biotin. Neither worked. My hair just kept falling out and falling out. But, thankfully it stopped after a few months of it falling out. My surgeon told us it is our hormones that cause the hair loss. He said it rarely happens to the men in his practice. They think it is actually our body shedding the hormones stored in our fat cells. He compared it to post pregnancy. A lot of women lose their hair after having a baby due to a hormonal change. You can try the Nioxin and Biotin. I think I wasted my money. I do take Biotin now to help with the regrowth though. I do notice a difference in my nails, they are stronger.

U need to find a new tax man tmarie. If he was a good tax guy he would know that the only thing that the form requires is an amount, surgeon name and contact # and that's it. You only need a receipt if they audit you. And the tax law CLEARLY states that obesity weight loss surgery IS included. he should have known that. Heck, I did. Get a new tax guy! Your surgery is definitely deductable. Sounds to me like your tax guy was just being nosey because there is no way he needed all the info he was asking you! And he knew that~!

Looking to meet local banders in Charlotte area
sunsett replied to JZackary's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My therapist had her stomach stapled and a band around her stomach back in 97. She is just wonderful. She said she'd be willing to start a group if I could find 4-5 people. She really is helpful since she took the slow weight loss route also. If you are interested let me know. This is something I think would be a great support. We all support each other which is wonderful but to have a counselor lead a group who has gone through all the same stages we are going through! How great would that be! -
Cheese... glorified fat?
AliNSanDiego replied to gummykandi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I loooooove cheese & I eat it a lot for snacks and I add it to a lot of my meals. Since I use it so much, I buy low fat. I actually found a great cheese with less then 2 grams of fat per serving, low calories and almost zero carbs. It's called lifetime cheese. I love their jalapeno jack cheese. YUM! I also buy Trader Joes Light Sliced Provolone. Yum, yum! I'm losing aprox 2 pounds per week so eating cheese is not stopping my weight loss. -
Gastric Sleeve revision to Band
Travelher replied to WIllnotgiveup1's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
very very very bad idea. Lap bands have terrible complications and as of right now a 50% failure rate. the odds are extremely high you will do irreversible damage. there are Bariatric patients out there who have done band over RNY (never heard it for sleeve) and they can never have another revision because it could be fatal for them. my local center of excellence currently has an 80% removal rate...80%. there are countries that have banned the band. the conventional revision path from a sleeve for lack of weight loss is either RNY or DS (the sleeve is the first stage of the DS). Honestly, I"m shocked any doctor would recommend a band. my doctor says any doctor still putting them in should be sued for malpractice. -
Hi everyone- I am desperate to find a GOOD thanksgiving dessert that isn't full of chemical sweeteners. My mom and daughter both are very sensitive to chemical additives, preservatives, sweeteners, and emulsifiers. I usually make a great pumpkin role or a cake of my gram's, (both are heavy in sugar) but really looking for something a little lower carb this year that we can all enjoy. I've recently gotten back on track and doing great with weight loss- don't want to totally blow it on one day but still want to enjoy. Any good ideas? TIA

Week 4...Hungry ALLLL the Time?!?!!
lellow replied to txgirl10326's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For a lot of us, hunger is something we will struggle with until we get the right restriction level. I was hungry ALL the time too before I got some restriction, and for me, it took a LOT of fills. This is not unusual at all. In fact it's so common, you can bet your last dollar many thousands have been through this before you. Eat well, eat bandster portions, look for satisfaction (no longer hungry) rather than fullness, eat low cal, high quality food (whole, hard proteins) and exercise. You will get to the point of feeling restriction and it will get easier, but use this time to build good foundations for long term weight loss/maintenance. Bandster hell is a GREAT time to analyse the way you've eaten previously and make changes for long term good health that will stay with you the rest of your life. -
Revision weight loss
GreenTealael replied to GotItDoneInHarlem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
* Bursts In: Am I late? No, Good * I converted from VSG to RNY at my goal weight. Initially i lost a about 10lbs easily but worked (ate 😂) to get back to my normal goal. It is possible to maintain if you are diligent. If i eat weight loss mode - I lose, if I indulge just a little every now and again- I maintain, if i go overboard - I gain. As always talk to your Surgeon and come up with a realistic plan 💚 Oh BTW , GERD is gone 🙌 -
Getting Completely Filled The First Year
Rojasanoll replied to cheryl2586's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had only 2 fills and I have a total 4.5cc in a 14cc band. But the doctor is starting to hesitate in any more fills because he only wants me too lose no morfe than 2 pounds a week. This will allow me to eat wise and properly over a longer period of train. To retrain my brain and change my eating habits. I don't know if I'm close to a green zone or not, but he likes my weight loss so far. Guess I'm doing something right. -
I have lost like 1000 lbs in the last 20 years. I am 53 and this battle has gone on forever. Since the lap-band was installed I am ready and willing to keep the weight loss going. I did take a holiday there for a year or so. Now I am ready to go forward. I have lost a normal size person, and I have another person to go, LOL:eek: . But, I am ready to do the work. I think it took that year off to get my head right, it ain't all in the eating. For some reason I was not ready to be a normal size, today I am. Well................... at least I think so.......LOL. Thanks for the thought, and it's nice to know that the end is in sight. Peace. Butch
