    Gym ?

Hi there, I do about 60 minute workout, 4 times a week. I may power work 7mph on the treadmill with 4-6lbs weights, just to tone up on arms for 15 minutes, then run for another 15 minutes at 10-11mph. Then on the step, bike or rowing machine for another 15 minutes. I change my exercise routine every day, to jogging on the treadmill for 30 then 20 of weight training. This way I keep tricking my body not to stay comfortable with my workouts and not stall. It seems to work. I started my workouts after surgery doing 10 minute ls on 3 cardo machines and increased the intensity as I improved. Then 10-20 minutes using weights or kettle bells. Good luck.

    Gym ?

I am apparently very out of shape. I am trying to work my arms and I am having trouble with the lightest weights I can get my hands on. I do go on the treadmill for 30 minutes and then hit the weights--take it slow and build up week by week. I try to get to the gym 5 days a week.

    Health expert panel ranks diets

I have done a lot of research on diets (as most obese ppl have, I suspect) and what I find is, from Keto to Vegan to Paleo to Weight Watchers they all have something in common: 1) avoid sugar 2) avoid refined grains and other highly processed carbs 3) avoid processed food and fake food even if it has no carbs (hot dogs, diet soda, etc) 4) eat whole food as close to nature as possible 5) eat your veggies! Beyond that there is a ton of variations and different things work for different people

    Large boned. ..

@DJ's Nana Just concentrate on being a healthy weight! "Small" doesn't mean much - you certainly will never be petite - but you can be sexy, hot, and healthy!!! That sounds way better than "small"!

    Large boned. ..

At 15 1/2 months post-op, 5'10", SW 326, CW 158. I always convinced myself I was "large boned". Turns out, not so much. In fact I feel like I look too thin and haven't had any plastics yet (first round 3 weeks from today!!!). Anyway, one of the comments I get the most is "look how tiny your wrists are". It is so strange to hear.... As far as size, I am down to a 10 pants, medium tops, etc. I never dreamed I would get here and again that is with a lot of extra skin so I can't even imagine what I will look like after my LBL. As far as hiphugger jeans with a shirt tucked in and cowboy boots, YEP and looks fantastic - so don't worry, you may totally get there. But as that picture above shows, everyone's shape is different. Even someone my same height and weight will carry their Wright differently and look different than me. Trust me as you lose, your confidence increases so much in so many ways, that you can rock just about any clothing item you want!! Sent from my HTC One M9 using the BariatricPal App

    Decisions...

I only decided to band after I lost 60 lbs, was eating as recommended and exercising as much as possible, my only to remaining options were weight loss pills or surgery. My doctor and I decided the surgery was a better option since I'm young and healthy whereas if I took diet pills and they only worked for a few years I'd be that much older and a less optimal patient for surgery. My advice is wait to get the surgery until you're ready to make the long term lifestyle changes. The surgery is just a tool if you're not ready it won't work as well. My surgery is tommorow but I've been practicing eating slower and not drinking during meals for months now and for years before that I calorie counted my food and paid close attention to my nutritional I formation while getting in as much exercise as I could fit in my schedule.

    OMG I Can't Believe It

I went for my two week post-op check-up. I knew I had lost, but I was amazed to find out I had lost 26 pounds! It is almost unbelievable to me that something finally works. After dieting all my life it is such a relief. I know I am only a few weeks in and I'm sure the weight loss will slow, but it still feels really, really good.:smile2:

    Tattoo

I've got 7 tattoos...from weights of 250 to 370...almost 100 pounds down from my highest...no distortion yet. But I would recommend waiting till you maintain goal and have any skin fixed...unless you pick a "lean" place like a shoulder blade or wrist or foot.

    Got the phone call!

Im in the Kaiser program now too, It's actually a great resource to learn everything you will need to know before the surgery (mind you some of the stuff they talk about is just repetitive and overkill for anyone who has ever tried to lose weight ). My program is 24 weeks as opposed to 12, but it has gone by pretty quick so far (6 weeks in). I know I have to start getting on track to lose my 10%, but I also kind figure that I can lose it in the 4 months of classes that I have after the first of the year...good luck to you!!

    Got the phone call!

Awesome! You must be in San Diego area! We will be getting sleeved around the same time since we'll be finishing classes around the same time! So it's 10% of your starting weight at the orientation that they took? Do u know if you lose too much you can then not qualify?
  11.:thumbdown:Hey guys, so three weeks ago, I went in for a unfill in my band. I was eating very little and knew that it was time to take some fluid out. So, I did....WELL since then, I have gained 10pds, I can eat more however, I am gaining weight and I don't know why! I charge my eating and I am eating around 1200-1400 cals. Can someone help me? Back Pain?

My back was killing me for the first 5mths post op. I started seeing a chiropractor and he said that it had to do with the drastic change in body shape. Basically, your back had to reshape and conform to "a new you". Because you weren't carrying as much weight. It does get better. I was getting adjustments for 6 mths after my surgery. I am almost one year out and it's alot better. Good luck and congratulations and the weight loss.
  13. I'm just wondering if anyone developed extreme nausea two weeks into the liquid diet. I have felt so good up until today. Now I feel wiped out and so weak. I'm doing well getting in my fluids, but today, I'm not doing well at all. The protein shakes taste gross and I can't get any water down, I've tried the zofran, didn't help. I have some promethazine, I'm going to try that. No matter what I do my heart feels like it is pounding so fast. Thanks for listening. I'm not a complainer at all, I was just wondering if anyone else experienced these symptoms. Starting weight: 269 Pre op weight: 241 Weight after pre-op: 234 Post op weight, when I got home 247 Weight after two weeks: 231

    Stuck

I have also hit several plateaus! Very common. I've gone a month only losing 2-4 pounds or staying steady. It's frustrating but weight comes off in waves. My doctor recommended doing a week of liquids again. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Is this my period?? :)

Warning: this may be TMI! BUT I don't know who else to share it with! So... this morning at church I feel a little strange, I hop into the bathroom and lo and behold, I'm spotting! I grab the tampon that's been in my purse for about a year and a half since my last period. It's really dark and very very light. Normally, I'm very heavy... so I'm thinking this is just day one. I am just so excited! I've been so heavy and haven't had a "natural" period since 2001ish. I went off birth control about a year and a half ago. I'm just so excited! I came back from the bathroom at church and wanted to tell someone, but figured that was definately an inappropriate topic for church. lol. I guess I'm just so thrilled because being banded was the first step to getting pregnant... getting my period is definately the second step. Now to lose all the weight and begin the baby factory! I told my husband, but I don't think he really understood the thrill. He actually said "Man, that takes out 25% of the year for sex." Men....

    How long until....

It gets easier. It does. You were just banded and it takes time. I am almost 4 weeks postop and been out of "bandster hell" for almost 1 1/2 now and since then my life has returned to almost "normal". Well, since I am seeing the weight start to drop off I know that this "thing" was the right decision. Your time will come to realize that to. Best of luck
  17. Just Banded

    How long until....

You just got the band and I think it's completely normal to go thru this. It is a definate change and that is overwhelming in itself. You got this done for a reason and right now you might be uncomfortable and not rationalizing it completely. Try to relax, breathe, do some light yoga. In this moment you have it in and there is no reason to turn back after coming this far. Give it a chance. I sometimes think why did I get this band- what was wrong with me why I could never lose the weight. Why couldn't I just eat vegetables all the time to fill my hunger? Well - it is not easy for some people to lose weight. And I still never want to eat my veggies!!! I can honestly say without this band I might have gained 35 lbs instead of lost it!

    Large boned. ..

"Large-boned" is the oldest excuse for being fat. Large bones are the exception. Most people are "medium-boned," for lack of a better term. Your family has its collective head in the sand. Ignore them and don't you apply adjectives to yourself either. Make losing weight your goal. When you get to that place that you really want to go, you'll walk in the sun... You'll know you've arrived.
  19. Thanks for the advice! He is a bigger guy but he is 6'4" and 250 he has a bit of a tummy but the way he eats is literally atrocious to me now. Greasy big burgers, whole pizzas, ranch. Ranch on everything. It's hard for me to sit down at a dinner with him. The smell makes me feel sick. But we have made improvement, since this post he on his own accord wanted to try a life in my shoes he has gained since then more respect and less snide comments regarding my life style change.
  20. KayVon, My hubby has voiced the same fears. Though he is a tall, handsome, THIN beast....he still worries that I'll "find someone better." Really? Makes no sense to me. He loves that I've dropped weight and am still dropping but he still worries that the "new me" won't like the "old him" anymore. It's a typical worry of our partners, I think. Now if you're with someone who has his OWN weight issues...and he's doing nothing about it...then it's truly a VALID worry. You can't have people around you who are not supportive or being self-destructive (at least I couldn't).

    Weight loss haulted!

You listed the reasons you may not be losing weight, so focus on those. Get more activity. Drink more water. Eat more protein. I eat 1200 calories a day, so I don't necessarily agree with Grady on the 600-800 calories a day, but I also don't remember how much I ate at 6 months post op, so maybe that's about right. But, regardless, focus on getting your protein, water, and activity up. At over 1 year post-op, I still supplement with a protein shake or Quest protein chips every day; if I didn't, I wouldn't get enough.

    Pre And Post Sleeve Differences?

I think men lose more than women because of the different biological makeup. Women, by nature, are more prone to holding on to weight because of their child bearing capacity. Lactose intolerant? No. Spicy foods? Absolutely! Chili and salsa go down better than most things. I have trouble eating eggs and most meats, including hamburger. I think it is because of the density of these things. I can get them down, and still enjoy the taste, but I fill up very quickly when eating them and that sometimes lead to a feeling of overstuffed and mild pain for 15 minutes or so. . As for things I liked before, but don't like now, the only thing that fell into that category was a certain brand of fruit shakes that I could hardly stomach after surgery. I gave my oversupply away. For that reason, don't stock up more than a week or so supply before surgery because you may find out you don't like it after. I watch carbs closely, keeping in mind that some carbs are necessary especially if you exercise heavily. I hold to less than 70 carbs per day and burn about 430 calories in exercise (treadmill). I know if I overdue the carbs, I will not lose weight. This surgery was the best decision I ever made and I would do it again, despite the minor changes it has brought in my diet.

    Band Removal

I am sitting at the hospital waiting for the band removal. It has been in for two years and I have lost all the weight. It has been a fantastic experience to be really slim and I am just wondering if there are any people out there who had the band removed and stayed slim.
  24. I need people who had weight loss procedure done with MEDICAL IEHP Insurence. How hard is it to get lap band with MEDICAL? I just got denied for a consolation with the surgeon. HELP! I'm so disappointed! Thank you
