    Time Off Work

I was off completely for one week. Limited duty 6 weeks. Post op follow up 10 days. Have a physically demanding job so limited duty necessary. If I had more vacation time I would have taken whole time off because I had to take heating pad with me to office.

    Driving Post Op

I asked my doctor the same question. After I told him I drove anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour each day for my job, he told me not to do it for at least 7 to 10 days after surgery. This is definitely a question you'll want to ask your doctor.
  3. I was on business travel all last week and I tell you, I LIVED on Wendy's chili. Each day I had a small chili for lunch with a packet of their low fat sour cream mixed in. I am 5 weeks post op and have not had a fill yet; it went down easy. Sometimes I ate half and returned to the left over portion an hour or or so later. Other times I ate the whole thing within 10-15 minutes. No problems with the band and I was very satisfied after eating. Of course, I skipped the crackers.

    **Newbie Alert** Not happy

We all have to start somewhere. If you can only walk 2 mph on a treadmill that's all you can do. But that is better than nothing. I was well over 300 lbs 7 months ago. I'm almost 200 now. I was doing like 20 minutes on the treadmill and another 10 on the bike. I had to work up to what I do now (over an hour plus weights). But every day is going to get easier to go longer or faster. And that's better than yesterday. That is all that matters. Make today better than yesterday, and if you have an off day, don't get too down on yourself.
  5. It's true that GBP (revision) patients maintain at least a 10% or more weight loss than sleeve, so theoretically revision is just giving yourself a better chance. I revised for acid reflux and "only" had regained ~ 25# of 130# lost and was still < 30 BMI at revision. But I will say that losing the 17# I have lost since 12/16, which is a higher rate as a % and # as compared to sleeve, has made me much happier. With that said, I'm only 3 weeks out so I'm actually scared I will lose more than I want and look like an old man again with that drawn face. And then I'm scared that I'm going to regain as well. I guess I'll never be happy. Listen, our stomachs/bodies often betray us and make us hungrier than we need to be. And the food supply is stacked against healthy eating. So if you can get a revision to keep more weight off then I would do it whenever you are ready. It's a tough, tough, battle out there. If you have acid reflux, however, I wouldn't hesitate to revise sooner than later. I developed Barrett's Esophagus which is miserable to get at 44 and I'm hoping will go away with some healing.

Monday June 8th is the day!

Hi Natalie, I'm doing really well also. I too m getting to the point where I know I need to hit the gym but not trying to be a superhero. I'm still struggling with fatigue hoping it will go away soon. I keep having to remind myself that because of my age I'm not going to bounce back as quickly as some of the youngins lol. I am still struggling with getting all my protein shakes in. So I just ordered a new nectar brand that is only 4 to 6 ounces with 30 grams. I think that's going to help a lot as I really hate the shakes I'm using now. I have been extremely careful I've not eating too fast and chewing my food really really well so have had no issues up until last night I made some tuna and cut up dill pickle slices really tiny like the size of relish. About 10 minutes after eating I felt really nauseous. Not to the point of throwing up but just not feeling good. I also had instant diarrhea but it didn't continue just one time. Sorry for the TMI not sure how else to put that lol. I don't know now whether it was the food or if maybe I ate it too fast. I'm guessing it was a mild mild case of dumping? Really not sure

    Driving after a LBL

I was driving about 10 days post LBL (to/from work & running errands), but I can't imagine an 8 hour drive that early on. Talk to your surgeon!

    💩Poop (or lack there of)

I am 5 day post Gastric Sleeve I had no BM about 3 days prior to surgery. So for a total of 8 days I did not go. Today I finally went out and purchased an enema and some MOM. Of coarse once I came home and rested for 10 mins I went on my own. You really have to keep up on your water intake and get some walking in. I think it helped me tremendously. Good Luck
  9. THIS MAY NOT BE FOR EVERYONE AND THE COSTS ARE CRAZY I am going to share this wasn't going to but there may be a few out there going thru what I was. I am male and you can see by my stats lost most of my body muscle and mass, I suck at eating correctly and find eating to be a pain in the ass. Drinking water is not my thing either. So I mastered the art of Smoothies loaded up with tons of Vitamins protein and minerals. All home made with the best of the best ingredients and for the last year and a half have made these my main diet and try to eat when I can. So now what. I have dedicated this Covid time to getting back some muscle and pushing the health thing to the next level. At First I thought this was a gimmick but I joined a Group called IHealth Naples. Free Free to google them. I have been taking IV blasts every 10 days for the last 3 Months. I am amazed at the results. These blasts have pushed me up to the next level of health. So if you are trying to push the health even further I will tell you this is a great option. These little bags of health will change you - Prior to me starting I had issues with the hair on my head hurting, Dehydration and just feeling sluggish. Not any more. There are these types of therapy locations all over so you may consider it. Let me warn you It is not covered by insurance and is costly. But for my I ate more then the cost of a Blast prior to surgery so I feel i Deserve it
  10. I think if the pharmacy doesn't have records, I will pick years 2001 and 2003 to add to '05, 07, 08, 09 and 10. Thanks, I'm not ready to throw in the towel, by any means. When you finally get to the place where you are fed up with the weight and summon up the courage to make a surgery your decision... you sure don't want not going to the Dr. one year four years ago to get in the way! thanks all.

    Sliming

I had never had a problem with cream of wheat before this, that's why I ordered it. But I asked that it be served VERY HOT (the way I like it). I think that by the time I swallowed it down, HOT, it dried up even more in my throat and got stuck. It was very painful! And, yes, 3 hours is forever when you are sick. By the time I drank the warm tea, the pain was unbearable! Then, just as fast as it started, it went away. Within 10 minutes of drinking 2 sips of tea, I was fine. Never want to go through that again!
  13. I was banded on yesterday.. Honestly I haven't had a whole lot of discomfort as of yet.. I was instructed to walk every hour for 10 minutes.. My husband set alarms. He has been my doctor at home.. I used the heating pad on my shoulder , a lil pain there.. I'm not sure if the fact that I am taking the pain pill every four hours on time is why I'm not really feeling the gas pain that others talk about.. It's like I'm waiting for it. I ended up having a hernia repair also... So far so good so good looking forward to the next phases.

    December 2018 VGS weight management

definitely get on top of that ASAP. It'll be a lot easier to lose 10 lbs than 50! If you're not still weighing, measuring, and logging your food, I'd start there. do keep in mind, though, that a 10-20 lb rebound weight gain is very common in year 3. It's just your body settling into whatever weight it wants to be. That's not to say you're stuck there - you CAN lose it - but if this your body's new "set point", just be aware that it's going to take some work to get down to - and maintain - a lower weight.

    Recovery questions!

I was almost in the same boat as you. I have a 9 month old and an 8 yr old both born through C-section. My Kaiser doctor had me restricted for 3 weeks nothing over 10 pounds. Sadly even with my husband home that was impossible. But I did do my best to have him do most of the lifting (exp: out of the bath tub, out of the crib). It doesn't hurt to lift BUT the restrictions are in place so you do tear and cause a leak. Now I will say the night I was in the hospital I got some sharp gas pains. Lasted about 2 min and way worse than the C-Sections!!! Thank god it was only 2 minutes!! Lol!
  17. Here's the science behind some weight loss stalls, if you're interested: http://www.justinowi...nd-glycogen-de/ Basically it comes down to this - glycogen is your short term fuel, and first to get depleted in the weight loss battle. Glycogen is usually the source of that AMAZING first week weight loss of 7-10 pounds. Glycogen takes a LOT of Water to store, so when you use up all that quick-access energy, the water goes with it. Eventually your body goes "We need more glycogen!" and starts rebuilding those stores... with the water it needs. Because your body is now storing up that extra water (which weighs a lot), that can lead to short term weight loss stalls even though you're still using up fat and losing inches!
  18. Surgery on 3/19 8:30 am Nauseated with dry heaves all day and night 3/20 much better. Peed on my own, walked a lot and drank small sips of Water and broth and released but did need pain meds 3/21 woke up with really tight back muscles, worst pain so far. Started farting this morning :-) Gas hasn't been bad as its coming out. So far so good. Keep the prayers coming. For those on the fence about surgery, I cried and almost left the hospital numerous times but just kept going through the motions... And, nothing has been as bad as I have imagined. I have a great surgeon... Still worried about leaks and clots, but I'm a hypochondriac! Can't wait until I feel I'll really be "okay" and start looking forward to my goals. :-) Best of luck to you! :-)

    Alcohol - when?

I was 6 weeks post op and my dr okayed a drink here and there socially. I had a wedding and drank 2 Malibu bay breezes couple hours apart. Took forever to drink, but it was delish! I didn't get a quick buzz. I'm now 10 weeks post op and tried a vodka drink and as soon as I drank it I knew sleeve didn't like it and I didn't drink it. Sw 276 (start of 7 day pre op diet) sleeved 5/5/15 Cw 201
  20. When do we get to go to a regular diet? I was sleeved 10/26/16 and I'm finishing my last few days of full liquids. Then I have 2 weeks of pureed then I go to soft diet but it doesn't say how long the soft diet lasts before going to regular foods. What does everyone else's program say? Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
  21. I went to my primary care Dr today and she was all for the lap band surgery! I called the Dr that will be doing it and scheduled my Orientation! It is set for August 9th. I was told that I have to lose 10% of my weight before I can have the surgery. My question is, do I start doing that now, or do I wait until after orientation? Is it hard to lose the 10%? What did you all find as the easiest and quickest way to lose it? I am going to have to lose about 26.5 pounds as of right now. I can schedule my surgery after losing 5%. How long should it take me to lose that weight? I am so excited, I cant wait!!

    Not Sure What's The Issue

oh wow, I'm having these exact symptoms and have had my band for 3 years. Just got on this web site to see what might be wrong. I have to pay cash every time I go to the lap band doctor so I'm putting it off... On the bright side...at least I might be finally losing some weight. I lost a whole 10 lbs after paying for a $12, 000 surgery. Anyway, thanks for the blog.

    Newbie: Banded Sept. 6th...

10 lbs in a month is great, plus you haven't had any fiil. You're worrying like most of us have. I had my surgery on September 1st and just had my first fill October 3rd. My goal is to loose 10 lbs a months and when I went to the doctors, I had reached my goal. Although I was so disappointed in myself because the week before my first fill, oh my, not only was I recovered from having surgery (which makes you hungry) I also had that PMS hunger . It wasn't good, I won't lie. The night before my appointment I even had nightmares my doctor was yelling at me. Well to my suprises, my doctor was so kind, he looked at me and said why are you beating yourself and much have you gained? He opened my chart and said you lost 10 lbs since surgery and you had no fill , your doing great. I have the best doctor, I won't lie, he's very motivating. We sometimes need to remember, we didn't put this weight on overnight and we surely aren't going to take it off overnight. I even wish that I everyday, but for me I know its more realistic for me to set smaller goals. 10lbs a month, I think I can do it, and I have to have faith in myself that I will do it. I still have 90 lbs to go and hopefully by next summer, I will be able to put a swim suite on for the first time and not feel like a beached whale. I see people some people loose quickly on this site and everyone is different. I even read alot of people having issues with the band on here and I try not to focus on negatives. It will happen, have faith and good luck in your journey.

    Holiday Get Togethers

@@LessOfMe0503 hi i am not a cook/baker et al if i put 4 pots of Water on stove "usually" i will be successful that they won't burn LOL i asked my sister to bring her "famous" artichoke" dip on thanksgiving the reason i asked her to bring it is because i wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole (yeach) i bring things to gatherings that i hate!! that way i'm not tempted to eat any of it sorry i don't have any healthy suggestion to give you maybe you can buy something you don't like too (can be hard to do, since i like everything LOL) same thing for halloween (hard to find candy i don't like) !!!! glad you did well with thanksgiving pat yourself on the back stay strong for the holiday season it is hard for many (me) people i know you can do it!! kathy Your strategy is the exact opposite of what I was thinking, so I took a little while to wrap my brain around it! I was thinking of things I could take, that I knew I could eat. It never occurred to me to take something I WOULDN'T eat!
