    3 Month Stall?

Yikes! I think Hop_Scotch was merely trying to explain that various factors could be contributed to a stall and sometimes knowing if a change has occurred or not could be a factor as to whether or not a stall is taking place. I think I can simply answer your question if you'd like. Common only applies to the person who is experiencing it. For myself I lost I think 22 lbs quickly before my pre op, then being on pre op I lost some more. Post surgery I lost 14 lbs in about 9 says then BOOM a stall. I was in that stall for 5 weeks. No weight loss no weight gain. I was not working out to the extent you do because I am pending a knee replacement so I have some mobility issues. After the 5 week stall I then began losing weight again without any problem but at a much slower rate which for me was disheartening as I thought I should be losing more but according to my team I am losing at an average rate of speed and amount. There are loads of threads on the dreaded stall. You could do a search for them if you prefer to read what others have posted versus having to provide your details.
  2. Hi, I am 37 and I started my weight loss journey on July 28th. I attended my first nutritional visit on 8-11-16, and i had my psychological visit. I am a new vegetarian. I weighed in at 5'4, 234 with the surgeon, and 241 with my nutritionist. So far I've only lost 3 lbs with this new lifestyle. I have PCOS symptoms of acne, weight gain, irregular periods, mood swings. I'm so frustrated with all of this! Which surgery option is best for my situation? Is there anyone out there with success with PCOS and weight loss surgery? I'm also thinking of going to another surgeon, because every time I call or email them, I get their live voicemail and they won't return my call or email. 3. I am looking into the sleeve revision surgery, yes weight gain in the last year. All time low 148 pounds. Im at 184 now.Im kicking my own ass, failure again. Who has had the "sloppy sleeve" revised or from sleeve to gastric bypass? I do medical abroad in Mexico . Lapband in 2008. VSG in 2016 . Thanks for reading Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. I have bipolar and I’m on trazadone, lunesta, trileptal, klonopin and seroquel. Seroquel is known to increase appetite and cause weight gain. No problems here! VSG on 5/10, don 25 lbs
  5. I've had far too many surgeries . I have a rare type of brain tumor that helped contribute to my weight gain. I'm doing this, like everyone else, to try to reduce my morbidity. But with my underlying condition I'm virtually being a guinea pig in hopes it will help, but I guess someone has to be the first one to do it, so here I go!

Help! Weight gain probs. Snack suggestions.

I also said “ I will never gain it back” and had a 16 pound gain my third year. (I worked it off) Weight gain can mess with your head. You caught it before it became a major regain. You can get this back down. Some of us can have a piece of cholate and stop. I know myself, I keep temptation out of the house. Maintaining I indulge within reason. Some of us do the pouch reset (liquid progression to real food) It’s a good way to restart healthy habits again. Some of us go back to bariatric basics.( Real food stage, Log food and stay within your weight loss calorie/macros, hydrate and exercise) Others change diet plans. (keto, intermittent fasting, vegan etc) Its finding what works for you. Whatever diet you choose; Logging has been the tool that helped me get the weight off. Here are a few threads that may help: Weight loss group challenge to keep you motivated. https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/425758-june-2019-challenge/?tab=comments#comment-4781757 If you choose intermittent fasting here is a group of people that can help https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/419144-intermittent-fasting-daily-menuresultsaccountability/?page=173&tab=comments#comment-4780742 Mental Weight loss battles thread. https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/425354-the-importance-of-doing-the-head-work/?tab=comments#comment-4776743 Wish you the best. I don't understand

i had to come back to this post. i am addicted to the scale and couldnt stop thinking about this post yesterday. i started mushies on friday and weighed myself and i have gain almost 2pounds since friday!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm trying to not go jump out the window!!LOL! i do know that i have really stop drinking my liquids like i'm supposed to and my dietician just told me on friday that a lot of people fall off from liquids once they start mushies cuz they have been drinking them for 3 weeks and are pretty much sick of them.(me raising both hands!!!!) I'm praying that is why the weight gain and i am returning to the gym next week. Is this normal or am I crazy!!!
  8. Has anyone gained their weight back after surgery? I was 294 and went down to 180. I am now back up to 196...but is this normal? I'm 18 months post surgery.
  9. I also started mushies this week and though there was no weight gain, I have lost only .5 lb here and there. As far as eating during this phase, I try to add unflavored Isopure protein powder to almost any of my mushy meals (cream of whole wheat, yogurt, soups, sugar free jello, etc...). It helps me get enough protein in for the day without adding too many calories and I think that's the hardest part of this phase, since I'm still not allowed to eat meat or fish or other forms of animal protein that have a decent amount of protein per serving. I am still weighing myself twice a week, which I know some people would disapprove of, but it's my way of keeping track of what's going on, and for now I feel I need to do it. Also, are you exercising yet? It's very important to start moving as soon as you feel able to. That really helps the weight loss (in combo with your post-op diet). I started walking very slowly 3rd day after surgery, then have been increasing to 2-3 miles a day or 30 minutes on the elliptical at slow to moderate pace, depending on how I'm feeling that day. I think that helps too. I don't have as much experience as some of the other responders, but I've been told the same things about plateauing and also about not worrying so much about the pounds dropping until after you get the fill (but I think we still worry because it's hard not to think that way after all this time Good luck!

    How do you decide?

I also have fibromyalgia. A lot of my weight gain over the years can be attributed to lack of energy , reduced activity level, and my reactions to medications. I was banded on 4/17/13 .... So far, so good. I can no longer take CymbLta because its a capsule . Hoping it won't make too much of a negative difference . My other meds are all crushable. One positive thing is that by crushing my generic ambien it works much faster and better. I've gotten better sleep this week than I have in a long time. Because I was so much lighter when I developed fibromyalgia I know that weight loss isn't a cure but I am also looking forward to the energy I'm sure to gain by not having to carry around so much excess weight. I'm really glad to see someone else here with fms because some of our challenges might be a little different than those of others. I hope all goes well for you !
  11. I would guess that labs might look ok for now since it could take several months to years to show a deficit. That said I would talk to your MD and see if maybe you should take one every other day and retest in another 6 months. That way you are still taking them but will see more of a long term effect. I myself take them daily. It's the one thing I'm strict about but if I continue to have high Vit B I will look into another brand that has less. I am always forgetting to take my calcium but I get around 5 servings of dairy a day so I am not too concerned but I know I should make it a habit. I freaked out about still losing too quickly at the 8 month mark at 130 lbs and kept losing despite increasing calories. it eventually plateaued and now I am steady at 126 but with a 40% carb, 30% each protein and fat diet of 1700 calories. I had plastics a few months ago and after the swelling went down I dropped to 123. Which is still a healthy BMI however I am muscular and still have loose skin elsewhere so I look better heavier with a more curves and less sag. I do not plan on further plastics and feel I would look better around 130. It is such a mental game because when the scale hits 128 or 129 I feel panicky that it's going to be 150 a week later or that when I hit the natural regain at the 2-3 year mark that it will suddenly go up to the 150 or 160s. However I was also worried when I saw 123 and increased nuts and carbs to get calories in. I guess it's just the feeling that we need to have control over our weight. I can eat anything now which is good but also a little scary. If it is high sugar I don't feel good, not ill but feel crappy. It's enough that I purposely limit high sugar foods. I think I do see a slight weight gain if I have a few days where I hit over 1800 calories and do less activity so it seems that my metabolism makes sense. Do you find that to be true or you can't gain no matter the calories you take in? How are your arm incisions? I am 3 months post and they are starting to fade but still very pink/red in comparison to my skin. I don't feel comfortable in short sleeves yet. I have a few places on the incisions with skin folded on itself that i hope will smooth out or will need to be touched up. I also still have loose skin right at the pit if I hold my arm half way up to horizontal. It goes away as I lift my arm up higher so I don't know if it can be fixed since the skin has to stretch to allow me to lift my arm all the way up.

    Critizing The "old" You

Alana, I am 8 months post op, and down 100 pounds. Everyday I struggle with the thought that I might gain it back. I am scared to death that I might gain. And somehow, my old friend--- food--- always pops up to comfort me. I struggle not to eat junk food when I am worried about weight gain. Doesn't make sense does it? I am trying so hard to break the habit of turning to food when I am stressed. It is a life long habit, and SO hard to break!!! I was 258 pounds at my highest. I am now 158 or 159 depending on the day. But some days I actually go up to 160 or 161. Those are the days it is hardest to stay away from the foods that have always comforted me. I tell myself over and over that I shouldn't eat ___________ (you fill in the blanks, it might be Twinkies, HO-HOs, mashed potatoes, ice cream, etc. But for sure it is a comfort food.) But somedays I just can't stop myself. It makes me worry about my long term success. Every one says how well I have done, but they don't know I am scared spitless that I might wreck it and eat my way back up to 250+ pounds. The main reason I continue to frequent this forum is that it helps me keep my determination to stay where I am and continue to lose. I am so thankful for the wonderful people here who encourage me to keep on this path I started in June. Best of luck on yur journey!
  13. You can go on any form of birth control after the sleeve luckily. When I had my sleeve I was on the pill and loved it! Now with my bypass my options were IUD, Nuva ring or implanon. I chose Nuva ring. I have not experienced any side effects with the ring, or even weight gain. I am happy with it

Now I am allowing my self to get excited....

hi! I've got fibromyalgia and degenerative disk disease and diabetic for past two years -- the insulin - I 'always' hear about weight gain - can you ask your doctor about pills by mouth instead? are you type II? I currently take Avandia (24-hour) and Prandin before meals-they work great. I was taking Avandia and Amaryl - Amaryl actually worked "too well" - - something to think about along with lap band - they are 'small' and you would be able to take them with the band I would think -- just wanted to share - I know your frustrations - I have lost almost 20 lbs in 3 months with the support of everyone here - even though I am not banded - they are terrific people - best wishes on the band!

    BIRTH CONTROL POST!

I've been on Nexplanon (implant) since about February. Been happy with it. No periods anymore, just a day or so of spotting every two months. I had it for four months before my surgery and I did not have any issues with weight gain with it. The only thing that is weird is that I have to use blood pressure cuffs on my right arm and everyone seems like they like to do it on the left arm.

How did you do over the holidays?

You both did amazing!! I on the other hand did horrible. I have gained a total of 12 lbs in the last 2 months. I am starting over though. I went grocery shopping today and have made out my meal plan for all 3 meals a day for the next week. I find it much easier to stick to my diet when I plan. I have been going though alot of changes in my life over the last couple of months and know that has played a part in my weight gain as well. I feel like my life is starting to get back to normal and I want to get back into gear. I have been over 200 lbs since I was in elementary school and am almost 30 yrs old now. I can't wait to get in the 100's and know I will make it there soon. Congrats to you both!!

    Lap Band to Sleeve

I had my band for 5 1/2 years and didn't have any problems (except weight gain) until about 8 months ago when I went to get a fill. The doctor couldn't find my port which is never been an issue in the past. Turns out my port was turned around and underneath scar tissue. Moving forward on July 23rd approximately 4 weeks ago I had my lap band removed and revision to the sleeve. In my case my lap band did not come out easily for the doctor. It was bolted in with mesh, and attached to my abdomen. My 45-minute surgery took about 2 hours and 15 minutes. But there were no complications other than that and my doctor was able to continue with the sleeve gastrectomy right away. I'm telling you this just to make you aware I did have pain longer than most people do, in my incision mostly. I was pretty weak for about two and a half weeks. Tomorrow will be 4 weeks and I finally feel almost like myself. It was so worth it though. I had a stall after 2 weeks, but I'm now down about 24 pounds since my surgery date. Good luck, you'll do great! Just trust your surgeon! Sent from my SM-G935T using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. My mother has switched through just about all the meds already listed, and still had issues with severe depression. This summer her doc put her on the newer one Cymbalta. She crashed severely for a week or so. We were worried about how low she fell, but then she leveled off and now feels better than she has in years. She's also experiencing a pretty steady slow weight loss, after so many of the others caused about a 50 pound weight gain. I think this one is finally working. If you aren't getting results... keep trying. It's wonderful to see a person come back to life.

    Slip Sliding Away-Maybe

Thanks for the words of encouragement all.. No kidding about the what seems to be an automatic weight gain. It seems I've put on about 5 pounds too. I was really, really dehyrdrated too. It's funny (not really) how fast that sneaks up on you. Good luck with the fills & I hope all stays well!

    Sweetners

I am 3 years post-op RNY gastric bypass. I strictly avoid processed sugars. I have a sweet tooth and that is one of the major causes that contributed to my weight gain over my lifetime. I limit myself to artificial sweeteners (such as Splenda and sugar alcohols), to natural low calorie sweeteners (such as Stevia) and to the natural sugars found in fruits and milk. I had diabetes. That went into remission when I left the hospital two days after surgery and I have not taken any diabetic medicine ever since and my blood sugar levels are good. I test my blood sugar levels periodically. I read the labels of all food that I consume. I look at the grams of sugar per serving. If it is above 5 grams, I look at the ingredients. The ingredients are listed in order by highest percentage, and if the first 5 ingredients contain processed sugar (in any of its many forms), then I avoid this food, like a plague. This is a list of sugars I avoid: Sucrose (table sugar), Fructose (honey), Dextrose, Maltose (malt sugar), corn syrup, corn solids, high fructose corn syrup, cane sugar, evaporated cane sugar, molasses, corn sweeteners, brown sugar, barley malt, beet sugar, pure maple sugar and date sugar.

Can't get enough calories to exercise...

Yes, I was losing weight rapidly before surgery. I considered continuing just exercise but I was at a point where I could not afford to leave room for failure. I honestly thought I would get the sleeve and try to work my calories up to past 1000 and start building up exercise again slowly. I read a ton and still misjudged how little I might eat. The problem is (I think) prior to surgery it would not be a big deal to go long times without eating. I am now having to relearn forcing myself to sit and eat throughout the day. I love exercise... Always have. My weight gain was after losing a child, and then a mom and sister over a span of about five years. The worst was while my mom and sis had cancer across the country and I spent those years traveling back and forth several times a month with a baby and then toddler. I ate horrible, ate from stress, and dropped off on exercise. Following all that I returned to exercise for sanity but also realized I had now been overweight for years. I am an active person and fortunately remained "fit" while being heavy in that I could still take on activities easily. As it stands now I do have energy but just enough for playing with my son outside, work, housework, etc. I feel weak sometimes during the day and I guess I am mostly worried if I head out to exercise I don't want to crash. I am going to try the suggestions along here. I don't want to just lose weight, but want to stay fit. I have the base from before and I love and miss my long walks, so I guess I will have to slowly work back up to them. BTW, I was sleeved July 4 and I am down 40 pounds. I just want to make sure I am losing it in a strong way and not just by deficiency. Hope this clarifies where I am at.
  22. On paper it is as easy as calories in and calories out. This is what my surgeon had mentioned. But he said life is not so black and white and there are other factors that contribute to weight gain that are often ignored. The person that tells you that it is calories in and calories out is just another internet champion whom thinks they know it all.
  23. @ That's really interesting, thanks for posting it. Does anyone else find it a relief to see more medical research referring to elements of weight gain that are out of the patients control now? I mean, of course I know there are many things that are IN our control that we can do to keep our weight down, but hearing more about the hormones and genes that influence our need for food takes away some of the crippling guilt I have been carrying all my life. A whole new meaning to out of body experience...

"Ditto" to almost everthing said here . Mine is a little different in that I spent many years in a mental institution for depression, cutting, completely unbalanced for being molested between 2 thru 14. It was physical and emotional abuse and family members doing the molesting but I put on weight conciously so I wouldn't be attractive to anyone. Then after 20 years of hospitals and doctors got diagnosed with bipolar disorder rapid cycling. I didn't care what I looked like I was in a very deep abyss. Me nothing...my family....well...they were there but I wasn't mostly mindfully but alot of hospitalizations. After the diagnosis a few years down the line I couldn't get over my depression it was severe. I had shock treatments over 25 in under a 2 year span. I began to make progress I was on many pills. I woke up to an obese person I didn't recognize and didn't want. I had a family that was still with me that I did want. So along with getting mentally healthy I tried many times to do the same with my weight but by that time I was in a habit of eating whatever and that is hard to break. I've reached nice goals and I started liking myself a little better but then would gain the weight back. Thus the band...health reasons first but weight loss and hopefully no regain second. So that is where I'm at. I have 50 lbs to go til goal and I'm looking forward to it like a beacon in the night....but it turns into daytime and I seem to lose my way. So slow and steady and readjusting my thinking and motivation and trying to do this with weight gaining pills, diabetes, low thyroid and a host of other problems...like depression and self loathing. It all keeps coming back at the wrong times or should I say just too damned often. My journey is no different than any of yours we all ended up about the same place but by different paths. I'm doing better mentally inbetween bouts but I know I look terrible but will feel better when reaching goal and with the band help keep myself at that weight and not regain ( hopefully ). Thx for letting me tell my story.
