Off track needing meatless protein ideas
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to mari.beth's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you eat cheese, try paneer. Its a fresh indian cheese with a mild flavor, suitable for vegetarians. It doesnt melt, has a texture a bit firmer that firm tofu. -

I cheated on my pre-op diet and I feel so guilty :(
Buffy1 replied to honeyflowers's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My pre op diet was lo fat, lo sugar, vegetarian diet. Incl no eggs or carbonated drinks. Plus 2 Protein shakes a day. My surgeon said the purpose of the pre op diet is to prevent people from having "last meals" the last couple weeks prior to surgery and to shrink the liver since it overlies the stomach, making surgery easier. After surgery I was on Clear liquids for 3 days then full liquids for five weeks (I have 2 weeks left) then you go to regular food. My doc took pics of my surgery, very cool. Looks like there are many things to consider and reconsider from everything I read in here... was hoping it could be a quick one but looks like I'm gonna have to keep it till December (my next leave for Christmas) and just keep dieting until then. I've already been dieting for a week now btw since last Saturday until date. As for my regular lifestyle diet, I'm vegetarian and I don't smoke at all (quit in 2006) and I don't drink alcohol at all (also since 2006) and I don't have any medical issues so far neither diabetes nor cholesterol nor blood or heart pressure thankfully nothing as such... my initial Dr's visit is planned for sometime next week during my leave and will see what he will advise then on the preparations and the recovery part too. Oh and btw no my work doesn't involve any lifting I'm a "fat banker" lol I sit on my desk all day and boss around a team of 33 people lol. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Reassurance, thoughts?
LisaMergs replied to SamPSUfan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ensure? Ensure Enlive? This is the nutrition info for Enlive That is a HUGE amount of carbs/sugar for a Protein shake, as well as calories. If you are using REGULAR ensure, it's worse- because of the low protein count-- You need to be certain that - you are choosing a Protein Drink that has enough GOOD usable protein in it- at LEAST 20-25 G protein per serving - the carbohydrates in it are usable and not sabotaging your caloric intake- your sugars, under the carb section, should be LOW - your drink is not highly caloric - mine are typically no higher than 170-200 calories. "Food" for thought. I can't imagine any NUT allowing for Ensure If you are not vegan/vegetarian then your primary source of protein- and the FIRST ingredient should be whey PROTEIN ISOLATE Not whey blends, or protein blends There are others that are good too, but start with that. unjury, Bariatric fusion, Jay Robb, Syntrax. There are more, but that's a place to start. Good luck Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Football eats ? Yup....got a few favorites for gameday meals. As you'll see.....most of them are vegetarian and uber healthy......or at least sleeve friendly............. Guacamole is always good to me. I was joking about the whole vegetarian thing, btw. Herb smoked meatballs and stuffed mushrooms. Wings and buffalo chicken dip. Stuffed clams. Beef brisket burnt ends. Stuffed jalapeños. 'ritas. Lobster tails & tuna steaks with wasabi. Sliders. Grilled asparagus with bacon upgrade. An easy halftime food that can be made swiftly......ribeyes. This one was grossly overcooked, in my opinion. Bacon wrapped meatballs.

I'm not a vegetarian, but a huge portion of my Protein comes from non-meat sources, and I can barely tolerate eggs post-sleeve so they're not a consideration. I eat a lot of Beans, regular cheese, cottage and ricotta cheese, yogurt, quinoa and whey-based protein supplements. You'll be great at it!

True it isn't my weight alone that could be the problem during anesthesia but the good news is that I don't drink alcohol at all, I don't smoke at all and I don't eat meat at all (yes I'm an obese vegetarian). I also don't take any kind of medications and thankfully I don't have a single health issue (yet), no blood sugar, no blood pressure, no cholesterol etc. so I think everything else is fine. And yes you're also right about the risks of my weight against the risks of the surgery, I mentioned that myself that if I stay as I am now then I give myself 6-7 years or 10 maximum and then poof I'm a goner. So yes this surgery is definitely the only way to life for someone in my weight. And last, I already started with a diet 2 days ago even before my first visit to the surgeon next week, I have already started to train myself to be more "food disciplined". Anyway let's hope for the best... Hope I can get some more inputs from more people who have gone through this. Appreciate it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'M VEGETARIAN!
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to Hiccup's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are Protein supplements that you'll learn about. I'm sure you know that whole grains and legumes together provide complete protein, etc., etc. (Watch the amounts!!) There are options for you and plenty of sources of info. (I'm not the source, though, as I'm not vegetarian.) -

So I see so many posts about the food types that need to be consumed post surgery but from the looks of it, it seems that one MUST consume at least egg and fish which I don't!!! I do consume dairy and milk products though but nothing else i.e. egg or fish etc. so what can I do? And just in case you're wondering, yes I am an obese vegetarian. I'm 440lbs and I'm vegetarian! lol... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Weight loss in 6 months....
CharlotteKat replied to Lewiswife's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I lost 112.4 lbs. from the day of surgery to the 6 month point. My loss is a bit on the high side according to my surgeon. I think that it may be because I am a vegetarian, I worked out daily and I kept my calories between 400-800 a day. I also faithfully tracked all my food and daily weigh in's on MyFitnessPal. -

Are there other vegetarian/vegan sleevers?
G33kg1rl replied to MicahD's topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
I've been a lacto-ovo vegetarian since I was 16 (a long time ago, lol), and am trying to get approval for sleeve surgery. I'm so glad I found this forum! -
I'm a vegetarian, so I've been drinking veggie broth. I think it's pretty good, but I also think they mostly use the same spices that are used in chicken broth, so it might not be much of a change for you.

So, as I sit here 5 months out, complication-free, and so happy I had this surgery, I have been thinking about meat. I love meat- any and all kinds. My pouch, not so much. Tried them over and over in all different manners and they just don't agree. chicken is about all it will tolerate. Any beef is absolutely out of the question and while I'm sad about not enjoying it any longer, especially a good rare juicy steak, oh well. I have my life back! That far outweighs any issues of sadness over it. The thing is- I would be completely fine not having meat again. I'm not talking becoming a vegetarian/vegan or anything like that. I still love meat-based broths and Soups, start my spaghetti gravy with neck bones etc. So, other than the occasional bites of chicken as my Protein, I rely upon eggs, milk, cheese, lots of yoghurt, and Beans as my protein sources. I recently been drinking a lot more of a miracle weight loss and overall good health liquid. It helps me when I have the urge to eat something due to head hunger and is important not only to help me lose weight, but for proper health. It has no artificial preservatives, no additives (within reason), no artificial flavors, dairy-free, no artificial colors, is fat-free, gluten-free, non-GMO, zero calories, soy-free, the strictest vegetarian diet friendly, sugar-free and for the most part readily available for a very low cost.... It's called Water. It is available at a faucet or water fountain near you. The only problem I have is, do I have to wait 30 minutes before or after I normally drink my water throughout the day before having this liquid?

Truth! My kid is a vegetarian and some of her veggie burgers would blow my carb count for the day.

My surgery is tomorrow so I have no post op eating experience per say however when I told my dr I was a vegetarian for years he told me great go back to it! He is über healthy himself and follows a bariatric diet himself although he's never been heavy. He said he himself is a vegetarian and said getting protein from places other than meat is fine. I'm excited to see how this goes. Wish me luck!!

Best surgery option for PCOS patients
daniotra replied to teedsg's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My doctor didn't recommend one surgery over the other due to my PCOS. Losing weight should help a lot. I do know some skinny people with PCOS, but weight loss typically helps regulate your hormone levels. (After the rapid weight loss phase at least). With being a vegetarian, make sure you get some one on one time with the nutritionist. We have a vegan lady in my group. She counts Protein grams, but doesn't worry about carbs like many post-ops do. Regret! Anyone? Missing real food!
prairieprincess replied to curlysue86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am preop but have tried different Protein shakes in preparation - but I found animal based Proteins made me incredibly ill - I had to go to vegetarian or vegan Protein Shakes and powders - you may want to try those options - can't hurt anything Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Best surgery option for PCOS patients
KristenLe replied to teedsg's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@teedsg Many people have had WLS with PCOS and have been successful. I would speak to your Team about what one is best for you - especially being a vegetarian. I would think the malabsorption with Bypass would be more of a problem with a vegetarian - but I don't honestly know for sure. It will depend also on your eating habits and medical history. The best people to help you make this decision are your surgeon and nutritionist. Congrats on the steps you've taken to get healthy! PCOS sucks - I'm pre-op sleeve and hope that many of my PCOS symptoms resolve with surgery. -
Best surgery option for PCOS patients
teedsg posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi, I am 37 and I started my weight loss journey on July 28th. I attended my first nutritional visit on 8-11-16, and i had my psychological visit. I am a new vegetarian. I weighed in at 5'4, 234 with the surgeon, and 241 with my nutritionist. So far I've only lost 3 lbs with this new lifestyle. I have PCOS symptoms of acne, weight gain, irregular periods, mood swings. I'm so frustrated with all of this! Which surgery option is best for my situation? Is there anyone out there with success with PCOS and weight loss surgery? I'm also thinking of going to another surgeon, because every time I call or email them, I get their live voicemail and they won't return my call or email. Plant Based Diet After Bariatric Surgery
BrittneyMarie replied to BrittneyMarie's topic in Food and Nutrition
Not too much of a guide plan. Just whole, plant based foods. Fruits, veggies, legumes, etc. The options are truly endless and SUPER delicious. I personally don't eat animal Protein or dairy, minimal meat replacements, and minimal processed foods. My husband, who ate red meat at every meal before my surgery, has become a vegetarian. We both love how we feel and are astonished that the strong craving for sweets has completely diminished. Not sure how helpful this has been. I'm just going by my personal experiences
