  1. I have been pretty faithful to my doctors diet. I went to my 6 week follow up. I thought I would get praised on my decent weight loss and adherence to the plan but instead I got that I need to eat 1200 calories a day by the physician's assistant. strange that it even came up. I am getting the protein, etc in and following "their diet" I eat around 350 to 450 calories a day. I only know that because I use my fitness pal I didn't even think we "had" to track calories. I also email the nutritionist at this practice regularly and she seems okay with my diet. I sort of protested to this lady and she said my weight loss would be more... I thought it was irresponsible of her to suggest it. Had I been a less stronger willed woman I would have been tempted to go eat French Fries right after my appointment. The good news is I'm doing okay I feel good and getting my 80 grams of protein in but even before surgery I would have never eaten 1200 calories. Anything over 800 made me gain. If i was at maintenance phase I would understand but at 6 weeks? She said if I didn't eat more I would ruin my metabolism. Very frustrating to hear.
  2. I know many of you were following my story after Cigna denied me twice and finally after peer review surgery was set for Monday, November 18th. However because my case was already challenging, why not throw a bit more into it right?! I started throwing up and having diarrhea/ stomach and chest pain Monday the 11th. I have been having trouble on and off since I had the fundoplication takedown, hernia repair, and my LINX device installed. This went on until Wednesday morning at 6am and had to be rushed to the hospital. It was there they determined after lots of tests that my wbc count was through the roof, I had heightened liver enzymes and an enlarged liver, blood in my urine, and the flow from the bottom of my gall bladder had stopped working. I have immediately admitted for surgery. When I asked how this would play into my sleeve surgery, they said theoretically they could do the gall bladder Thursday and then turn around Monday and sleeve me if I felt okay. I asked him if we could get it all over with at one time so I didn’t have to go through it again and after speaking with insurance they all agreed this would happen. So on Thursday I went in for a triple surgery- gall bladder removal, gastric sleeve, and LINX adjustment. Let me start by saying I am so grateful that it’s done. I’m supposed to be discharged later today (Saturday) so my stay here has def been longer. However during surgery, they didn’t give me enough sedative and I WOKE UP PARALYZED but could feel! I just couldn’t move. Had they done the gall bladder and waited on the sleeve I would have never gone back into surgery. I will say coming out of the surgery and that first night was awful. I heaved, I was in the most intense pain (keep in mind 3 surgeries), and I just didn’t think I was going to make it. I have been cruising right a long though. Increasing my walking here at the hospital, moving gas, drinking shakes and water with no problem and chicken broth never tasted so good. I am and have been ready for this step in my life and although this has been a rough way to get it done, I am ready to fight for my life and health. So just keep pushing on. If you take away anything from this mess it is that you got into this because change was NECESSARY, you have been putting in the work, and now it is on you to maintain the lifestyle. Surgery weight- 346
  3. I'm 8 weeks post op. I seem to have heck getting my first goal of 300. On monday I was 304. Today, weds, I'm 306. It's like my body is doing the same ol song and dance it used to. 4. Hi everyone. I don't know if anyone can relate, I had the surgery on 3 Aug. and lost almost 47lbs. but now I hit a stall.. my weight won't budge! the problem is that I feel demotivated to exercise or walk. I was walking more than 10,000 steps/day, and making so much progress. my water intake reduced as well, and I'm craving sweets and desserts more than ever. I really need encouragement! any advise?
  5. Is 40 lbs 8 weeks after VSG good progress or do most people lose more by this stage in the game? I have rheumatoid arthritis and I'm having terrible issues with constipation more than anything. I see my surgeon this Thurs and I'm worried he's going to think 40 lbs isn't enough. 😖😕

  7. Alright guys, im currently in the middle of a stall. but im not panicking at all. its been a week and my weight has stayed the exact same every single morning. (im a daily weigher) My diet hasnt changed at all, and neither has my exercise, so i know this is just part of the process. This forum prepared me for this though, so i will keep track on here how my stall is going. its only been a week, could be a few more. Who knows. Hopefully it break soon! But ill keep at it regardless.
  8. Title says it. I'm a relatively limber 300lbs. Right now, I'm building a new a bed. It's not going to be done before my operation. My mattress is sitting on a slats on the bedroom floor. I've never had an abdominal surgery before, so I don't know how much it will hurt me to have to get on hands and knees to get up. Do I need a different solution or is this just a possible annoyance? Thanks!
  9. Good morning everyone. Its late here in Australia but today (it's just turned Monday) I'll be 2 weeks post op! 14lbs since surgery; 80lbs since started my diet. I've been keeping track of everything and I'm feeling fine. Drinking water and shakes without any issues. HW 322 CW 242 GW 190 THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR ENCOURAGEMENT
  10. Hey there. So today I did my first weight in after being 1 week post op, and I weighted myself and only lost 2.2 pounds. Literally everyone I’ve seen or heard about looses 6-20 the first week...what’s going on with me? i follow my instructions. I have 60-70 G protein, about 400 cal and 2-7 carbs. Water is on average 30-45 oz. im extremely confused of why I didn’t lose any weight...help!!!
  11. On Tuesday im 4 weeks post op and Im struggling to eat the 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food (pureed or soft) that my dietician has recommended. Doesnt matter what i eat (soft cereal / porridge / poached egg etc) I can only get through 3 teaspoons of food, over a 5 - 20min period. If i go a 4th teaspoon i end up with the sharp pain in my left shoulder and a horrible full feeling that lasts for about an hour after eating. I dont pile high my teaspoon its literally a small teaspoon amount. Should i speak to my dietician?? Last night we had a friend over for dinner who i havent told i had surgery and i tried to eat a small amount of pasta salad and the tinniest amount of steak (chewed for ages because it was my first time eating a firmer meat) had the frothies after and 12hours later i have a sharp pain across my belly button . Is this part of the "over eating" symptoms?? i feel like im going to be on pureed/ soft foods for life
  12. When I had surgery on October 10 I weighed in at 235. I’m now four weeks post op and my weight is 218. I was under the assumption that I would lose more/faster by having RNY over VSG.. is my weight loss ‘normal’.. should I be losing faster? This weekend im allowed to start move from basic walking to real exercise.. I’m hoping that will help.

  14. Hey guys I need help with eating I have been living on eggs, chicken salad, tuna fish and cottage cheese I plan on making Refried beans. Bought tofu how do I prepare it? Any recipe tips for protein only diet? Please help
  15. Hi all. So glad i found this forum.. I had my sleeve done on the 22nd October 2 weeks today. My incisions have all healed up pretty well but i have this nagging dull pain under my left boob (Sorry TMI). I cant wear a bra as it makes the pain worst and it knocks me for 6. It seems to be 1 particular incision site thats causing the pain and its the largest incision site too. I get out of breath from both pain and "little activity" ( have a 20month old so take that as you will lol) Is this normal??
  16. Omg I am one week post op and the only difference I feel is pain on the right side of my stomach. I have not experienced any nausea or vomiting, in fact, while I was in the hospital the day after surgery I was out of it and guzzled water out of a straw! I don’t think this works for me AT ALL. Like did my physician take a tiny bit of my stomach? Today I went to Olive Garden to have the Zuppa soup because it is cheap and hearty. Although I eat a little slower, I still devoured my soup and had a breadstick. I did not feel full, bloated, nothing. I feel like this procedure was a waste for me and all I have to show or feel from it is scars on my stomach (which my tape has not fallen off yet), crazy bruising, and track marks on my belly from those dreadful shots. I have major pain bending over and getting out of bed but I have no problem with my fluid intake or going to the gym. Three days post op and I was doing 45 minutes on the elliptical. I just don’t get it. I’m so disappointed in myself and this process. I think I just need to go to freakin weight watchers AGAIN.
  17. Hi guys:) Was just wondering what your purée schedules are. I’m afraid I’m not going to get enough of what I need. I was able to eat a tablespoon of puréed egg this morning and then I was full. Curious to see everyone else’s schedule thanks in advance!
  18. Does anyone know how long the gas will last?
  19. Sorry if TMI, but who else can I ask? Doing protein shakes and was so happy to finally that delicious premier protein drink you guys recommended , except about thirty minutes after at work I had to run to the bathroom ... this didn’t happen when I tried it yesterday. Never happens with Bariatric advantage... happened a couple times with other drinks like quest and iconic protein. As you can tell my dr didn’t give me much of a pre or post op consultation . Also what is “dumping “
  20. Needs advice

    4 weeks out

I had my surgery on Oct 1st. I am almost 4weeks postop, and lost 15lbs the first 2 weeks after surgery, but since then I havent been able to lose anything, in fact I've gained 3lbs. Im very frustrated and feel like I'm failing. Anyone have any advice? Also I can't figure out how to fill out my surgery stats if anyone can help me figure that out?
  21. This week has been emotional! I did finally get on the scale. I am freaking 270lbs and I threw a tandrum just like a 2 year old in Target. For years I did not touch that scale! I did not want to put myself through that torture. I think after this surgery I won't be weighing except for one or two months. I think we can focus on that scale a little too damn hard.

My sis gets on it freaking twice a day. I do not want to chain myself to that evil witch.

Check out my new blog post.

Yeah, it sounds like a bad week. Just remember it's a journey (cheesy I know). Try setting other types of (sustainable) goals rather than weight loss until you feel you get a handle on losing the weight again. Remember keep it sustainable and small (mini-habits) otherwise the anxiety gets you off track.

My absolute first step was my my teeny tiny New Year's Resolution of keeping a food journal. I think it's the only resolution that Ive ever kept. Next, I started by just walking an hour with my dogs each morning four times a week and I used the Sports-Tracker app to keep myself accountable. From there it became easier and I lightened up about the whole thing.

Just a suggestion. Keep at it girl!

Well, I love your suggestion and I am going to do just that. I will not focus on weight. I actually have some dresses that I have never worn that I am looking forward to wearing and I am going to focus on visualizing me in them and looking fabulous. It's so funny. I am truly looking at all of this differently since it will be my 2nd surgery. I learned so much from that first journey.

  22. I'm pretty sure it's normal but that doesn't make it any less frustrating. Vegetables hurt my stomach, turkey or chicken hurt, pretty much anything I eat. Any suggestions?
  23. Hey there. I'm 18 days post-op from my gastric sleeve and started with some solid food yesterday. I had one scrambled egg at one meal and some flaky fish at another. I feel like I ate slow enough, it took me 30min to finish both portions. It gave me the runs yesterday and now today again with my one egg for breakfast was the same. Is this a normal thing when switching from the liquid stage?
  24. i’m 4 weeks post surgery. i’m still on my purée diet. tonight i added a little sauce (1/8tsp) and about a half hour later threw it all back up. is this what it’s going to be like every time o try anew stuff?? ugh
  25. Hi! I’m just starting this process but curious as to others experience- I work a position where I work 7 days and off 7 days and b/c of this I don’t get vacation or sick leave. Not an active job- think it would be possible to be back 1 week post op? I know it’s variable for many but just wanted to see. Thank you
