Looking for my December 2022 Surgery Twin
SalvoStrike replied to Ashbash88's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I also had a bypass surgery a few weeks ago, and it started with soups and protein shakes. I understand your desire to get back to an active life, especially if you were into sports. I'm also looking forward to when I can resume physical activity. As for satisfying and filling meals, I've found that braised vegetables with chicken breast and quinoa can be a tasty and healthy choice. Additionally, fruits, low-fat yogurts, and vegetable omelets are good for variety. The key is to watch portion sizes and follow your doctor's recommendations. -
Hello, I just joined bariatricpal as of about 10 minutes ago. For the past year i have been trying to complete my packet from my doctor in order to get my surgery date scheduled. it has been one issue after another, referrel issues, getting the doctor's office to get me the information in need, having to make appointments 6 months away, etc. I'm curious to see if anyone has had mini gastric bypass and if so, where did you go and how has it been? Thank you!

michigan Hospital stay in Grand Rapids, MI
Jessica Marie posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I am currently in the Pre Op phase of this journey. I will be having my surgery in Grand Rapids, MI when the time comes. I was hoping to get some insight from people that have had either the sleeve or bypass at this location. How was your stay? How long did you stay after surgery? Were the staff nice? -

Discomfort/Pain Post Surgery
BabySpoons replied to FmrFluffyGuy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stopped taking pain meds after week 1. I still had pain week 2 but it was bearable. I had gastric bypass and hernia repair so YMMV. The pain didn't go away completely for weeks but was more like twinges depending on what I was doing and how I moved. Nothing that needed continued pain meds . GL -
So I had my bypass on May 10th. I have puked and puked. They did a endoscopy everything was fine. So my surgeon had a ultrasound of my gallbladder done the same day. It showed gallstones and sludge. She said this is common with rapid weight loss. So last Wednesday I had my gallbladder removed and she repaired two hernias and I have one more hernia they are putting off fixing until I finish losing weight. I’m so frustrated, I was really excited because I made homemade chicken noodle soup with a little bit of Turkey sandwich. Well I only had a couple bites and puked that up too. I’ve lost almost 90 pds but I’m tired of being sick. I go for my post op check Wednesday maybe it’s just to soon.

What do YOU eat in a day and Stalling
Erin18 replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had gastric bypass lol Man, fish is one thing I never liked. I didn't like tuna fish for awhile after surgery(always liked it before). A couple months ago, I started liking it again. Some things I don't like anymore are tacos/nachos (those were one of my favorites!), hot dogs, last night we made homemade subs that I usually like but I just didn't care for it this time, bread type of foods are starting to bother me now. I too can only eat about 2 slices of pizza depending on how thick the crust is. If I eat more that two, I'm asking for it lol. Sometime I can eat 2.5, that's rare. I don't like a majority of the sugar free drinks(the packets). I used to like the lipton sugar free lemon iced tea, not anymore. I can't stand making my own coffee anymore and the only coffee like drink that I really like is a small iced caramel latte from Mickey D's. Better than Starbucks strangely. I ask for 2 equal, 2 cream, whipped cream and caramel drizzle. No, it doesn't make me sick or dump. If it was a medium, I would get an upset stomach tho. Its hard making meals when you don't always have real protein. My fav protein is chicken. I've been using recipes lately and they've been good. But yeah, the salad sounds good, maybe I can make a chicken salad tomorrow for lunch. I have a frozen chicken that I got from Walmart that a bariatric patien suggested and the nutrition facts are pretty good on it and it actually tastes like chic fil a but better in my opinion lol. I saw a recipe for mcgriddle muffins. Except I'm going to use my protein pancake/waffle mix for extra protein. They sound so good. Has anyone gotten sick of yogurt or protein drinks that are already made? Lol I have and that was since a few weeks after surgery. I just bought a protein powder this month and I want to start making 2 protein smoothies a day. Why does some stuff that has sugar in it not bother me but others do? I should eliminate sugar stuff and switch to sugar free instead, but hey sometimes it's better and just need it. Is there something wrong if it doesn't make me sick? Or am I just lucky? Lol I don't like that I don't get sick if I eat something with sugar 😪 Sorry this was long -
is it true dumping or just vomiting? Dumping involves sweats or chills, cramps, diarrhea, rapid heartbeat. Vomiting can happen, but it's not as common because the "action" is in your intestines. I at first thought it might be a stricture since you originally said you had bypass, and those can definitely make you vomit pretty much everything you eat, but then underneath your post you said it was sleeve - strictures are pretty rare in sleevers, so I'm not sure. what are you exact symptoms?

6 weeks post op gastric bypass it’s been hard and quite frustrating trying to figure out what I can & cannot eat. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I’m on soft food stage & yet everything I tried is a no-no for me bc of dumping; although it seems to me I’m doing more dumping than anything! Help!

I'm kind of surprised you found a surgeon that still places lap bands, too. That surgery has largely been replaced by the sleeve as the non-RNY option. My clinic quit doing lap bands even before I had my surgery eight years ago. There are definitely some people who love their lap bands and have been successful with them - but there are also a lot who've ended up having them removed and went with a sleeve or bypass.

Congrats! I'm going g in on the 20th. How was your pain after surgery? Sleeve or bypass? Is the liquid ok to swallow? -
Hi! So i made the decision to do lap band because it is something that is adjustable. I am 31 and I haven’t had children yet and I want them and I thought Lap band is the right route for me right now because of that I went to experience that I know things can be adjust when this does come along with gastric sleeve and bypass it’s gonna be a bit more harder. I’ve already talk to my doctor about my options and he agrees that I can still have successful weight loss with band as well. I also know family members who have had the lap band and gastric sleeve that they’ve had success with both.

I had a gastric bypass 2.5 yrs ago and have recently experienced a 17 lb weight gain. My doctor recommended Topiramate to help get me back on track and advised it’s very successful with bariatric patients however the possible side effects were kind of concerning has anyone taken this? And if so what was your experience? I appreciate your feedback!

Mexico Bariatric Center Tijuana

Hello, I had my gastric bypass in TJ November 2022. I went to the obesity Control Center with Dr. Ortiz, who is amazing. You can follow OCC on Facebook and Instagram. The facility is awesome and his staff were incredible. The price was around $6500.00 for everything including the hotel stay. The only issue I am having is the following up. You do get calls and email and they have a patient portal but nothing in person like in your hometown. Definitely weigh out all your options prior to going out of the country, if you need one on one. -

Hi there! New member so hello & good luck to my November 2023 surgery buddies ❤️ Just found out my surgery date is November 15th. SW: 320 CW: 304 IMG_0725.HEIC -
I met with the nutritionist and surgeon last week and have received a surgery date of December 27. It's about a month later than I thought it would be, but I'm trying to make the best of it and not be too disappointed. My doctor's office only does 2 days of liquids prior to surgery, so while it does mean I will be on liquids for Christmas, I will have Christmas Eve without any restrictions (which is our bigger celebration day anyway). And I still get the surgery done on this year's deductible, which will help a little financially. So until then I am just working on establishing an exercise routine and healthy eating, but I don't have an additional weight loss goal that I need to meet. I'm sure the time will fly, but it feels so far away when I had been crossing my fingers for mid-November.

Numbness in legs & stomach...anyone else!?

Hi, kinda new here. I'm 11 weeks post op gastric bypass & I'm about 55-57 lbs down to be exact. In the last few weeks I've been feeling what is kinda like experiencing a numbingness feeling or "falling asleep" "tingling" feeling in my legs from the front part of my stomach down to the top part of my things to my knees. It comes & goes, doesn't always stay! Is this normal? Am I the only one experiencing this? Please tell me this goes away?! [emoji28]🫣[emoji848] Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app -

strictures happen to about 5% of bypass patients. I had one, too (actually, two - one at four weeks out and one at eight weeks out. I was told they are super rare after the third month). As you said, easy fix. I felt better immediately! -

So exciting!! Congrats brandycsiz!! I was scheduled for December but we had to change things due to a shoulder surgery. So I'll be having the duodenal switch done on November 1st! I started the pre-surgery diet today since the surgeon wanted me to do 3 weeks if possible... -
Well, it seems I'll be getting the surgery sooner! We had to cancel our trip after I visited the ortho doc and found out my MRI shows a rotator cuff tear, damaged bicep, and bone spurs. I have to have surgery on it as soon as possible. But I'd have to wait 3-4 months after that surgery to do the bariatric surgery and I didn't want to wait. So we decided to do it first! I'm having bariatric surgery November 1st and a few weeks later we'll do surgery on the shoulder, this way we can get both in under this calendar year. I'm tired just thinking about it. LOL I started the pre-surgery diet today since he wanted me to do 3 weeks. I'm hungry already. 🤣
