    Another NSV?

Fantastic NSV and congratulations. Just one small thing - NSV stands for Non Scale Victory i.e. The wins we celebrate that aren't about the numbers on the scale.
  4. I stalled on this last week but I'm one month post-op today, and 30 pounds down, including the 2 week pre-op diet. Here are pics taken the night before the pre-op diet and some taken today. The night before my 2 week pre-op diet @282 Today, 1 month post-op @ 251 NSV: I left work before surgery wearing 3X scrub set, returned after 3 weeks wearing a 2X set with room.

  6. I have hit the stall also. Been trying to increase my Water and Protein. I have also been trying to increase my walking to see if I get quickly get back on the losing track. NSV: I am having a lot of people comment on my weight loss & now wearing a smaller clothes! I hit a stall!
  7. Just got back from a 3 week trip for work - while there I had to buy some new clothes and that was great . I also could relax in the tub - still not as comfortably as I would like, but enough to fall asleep in there! The big Nsv for me was getting out of my hot tub and grabbing my usual towel that doesn't quite fit around me and what do you know!?! It more than fit around me! I had a good 6 inch overlap where there used to be about a 4 inch gap! I haven't been paying attention to a scale - being out of town makes that near impossible - when I got back I had lost another 10 lbs in that 3 weeks and I was bloated from that time of month and from travelling. I celebrated with a nice pedicure Sent from my iPhone using VST
  8. Almost six weeks post op and I can finally wear my wedding rings again! Woo hoo! I had to pry them off my finger (no easy task) almost two years ago and I have not been able to wear them since. Thank goodness I am a born procrastinator and never got around to having them resized, because they fit me again! Yay! I always felt like my finger was naked and also felt a little weird about not wearing them. Thankfully my husband never questioned it.
  9. so today I took my 3 year old to the park. He likes to swing and of course I don't, I never fit. So today when he wanted me to swing I sat on the seat AND I FIT! Pretty excited about this.
  10. I'm down a total of 36 lbs, which is fantastic. I started this journey at 310, and I'm now at my lowest point in about 10 years (I think I was around 270 after I gave birth to my youngest. I could be wrong though...it was a while ago) I am slightly irritated that I'm still so swollen that my clothes are not reflecting the loss, and I am frustrated that I can't do much walking because my stomach HURTS (I hit 3300 steps yesterday, which was an accomplishment. Pre-surgery, I was doing 10k steps). I know that I need to give my body time to heal, but I am ready to start MOVING! Last night was a bad night. I was told that "This time last week you still had your whole stomach. I am sad for your missing stomach" and "God gave you a stomach because he wants you to eat." To say I saw red would be an understatement. After the pain I've gone through in the past week, to say things like that just irritate the everloving fuck out of me. And I'm agnostic bordering toward atheism, so saying God did anything is guaranteed to get me to turn a mute ear. By that same token, God gave me a gall bladder for whatever reason (it's been gone 9 years), a thyroid gland (partially gone for 6 years) and reproductive organs (non-functional for 10 years due to surgical intervention). Just because some Big Invisible Friend allegedly gave me something doesn't mean that it works. And when you have something that isn't working as intended, you fix it. My stomach wasn't working as intended, for whatever reason. I had no shut-off, and whether that was physical (I couldn't read hunger cues) or mental (because food=comfort). So I fixed it...with the aid of a surgeon. He and I decided together which surgery would be best for the amount I have to lose, for my general health and for a lot of other little reasons that go into making this kind of momentous decision (I didn't just close my eyes and point to a chart for which surgery I wanted. I thoroughly discussed the options and chose the one that was best suited for my situation) So in closing, don't bother with the pity for my missing stomach. If you want to feel anything for me, feel happy that I took control of my life for a change. Feel happy that I can walk up and down the stairs as intended, without heaving for air at the top or limping up them one step at a time (that is my NSV for today...walking up and down the stairs without pausing and without painfully pulling myself up one step at a time) Be glad that I took this step before my health deteriorated to the point where I would need my hips and knees replaced (my knees...oh my knees...they feel completely different with just this small amount lost. I am SO looking forward to walking longer distances and eventually starting the C25K.)

    NSV

I have also noticed a little tenderness when I do Zumba. I found that if i put on a spandex sleeveless body shirt it helps. I picked it up from kohls for less the 15 bucks. Helps keep that extra skin in also. But I will tell you make sure you get the cotton blend one. The one that is all spandex is way to hot. Good luck and congrats on NSV.

    NSV

I'm so excited, I just had to share! I went to a professional basketball game with the hubby and kids the other night and fit in the seat with no problems!! I actually had room on either side of me!! No holding my breath the whole game, no sitting up on the seat so my shoulders wouldn't hit the person next to me...I was able to sit back, relax and totally enjoy myself without having the seat parts jammed into my body. It was delightful!!

The improvement to our health and quality of life it affords us are the very best NSV's! No skinny jeans can match the feeling

    NSV!

I had an NSV yesterday also....There is a chair in my manager's office that I avoid. It's one of those computer chairs that has the arms on it. My butt has never fit in that chair. Yesterday it did with ease. I was amazed.

    Turtle Tribe Holiday NSV Challenge

NSV time - I like looking in the mirror and don't feel so disgusted when I catch a glimpse of myself. I feel like I'm looking thinner, even though I weigh a good 220! Still, it's smaller than before. Go Turtles, Go Turtles, Go!

    Turtle Tribe Holiday NSV Challenge

Hmmm, well, let's see what I can think of: I had a session with a personal trainer at the gym I joined, and when he asked what I'd been doing and I told him 35 minutes on the Elliptical, he told me I was ahead of the game because alot of folks go in there and can't do 10 minutes of cardio. There was a time when I was one of those people, so I think that's an NSV. I bought a shirt at Hot Topic the other day. Granted it's a 2X in girls which is kind of funny, because I have Large shirts that are bigger, but hey. It's a "girl's" shirt, so it's more form fitting and look pretty good. Oh! I went to Lane Bryant to get a shirt, and the smallest shirt size they had was too big. I could still buy pants there, but not shirts! I've been moving back toward my funkiness from my fun days. I used to dress exactly how I wanted at it was "me". Then I entered the corporate world and gave it all up, so now I'm getting it back! This goes along with caring what I look like when I go out. First I just wanted to look 'nice' or 'decent' and now I want to look like "me". If that makes any sense.

    Gym-related NSV

So I haven't weight trained since my VSG on January 8, because I didn't want to do it until I'd gotten clearance at my three-month post-op checkup, which was last week. (I've been swimming and walking for exercise since surgery, but no weight training.) I got clearance from my surgeon to resume weight training last week, so I went to the YMCA (where I work out) today. The YMCA has a computer system called ActivTrax that will generate weight-training workouts for you so you don't work the same muscles all the time or get bored, and I wanted to have a trainer re-evaluate my ActivTrax weight stats before I just went back at it willy-nilly. I did the re-evaluation today, and I am right where I was before surgery. The last time I weight trained must have been December sometime, but I guess the swimming helped keep my muscles strong, because the trainer didn't have to adjust any of my weight levels. I can pick right back up where I left off. I am so happy I haven't lost any strength. I love weight training (cardio bores me but I do it anyway), and I am just tickled pink that I can still do what I was doing pre-op. YAY!
  20. Yay! The jeans thing in combination with getting checked-out is definitely NSV worthy!!! I've been married for almost 15 years...not sure I would "recognize" getting checked out anymore. But I'm thrilled for you! And the Ensenada chicken platter is my all time FAVORITE Red Robin dinner. I used to eat it pre-op (yes, all of it) but now I only pick at the salad and order one chicken breast, and save half of it for later.
  21. So, some of you already know, I will have been banded for a year on August 15. In that time, I've lost 100 pounds, and can hardly believe it. It is taking a long time for me to recognize certain victories, but I can say for certain that today was one of the best ones. I had to go to a wedding, and the dress I was planning on wearing ended up being way too big. I didn't know, until I attempted to get dressed, and started to freak out because I had nothing to wear. I called my mom, ran to her house, raided her closet and while holding my breath attempted to wear one of hers. Well, this formally size 24, was able to wear her mother's size 10! That's me, the blonde on the right, in my moms dress!!

    Sv And Nsv

What a great NSV. Keep up the good job.
  23. Try not to step on the scales every day. I know that is hard but your weight can flucuate from day to day. Last week I didn't lose any pounds but when I check the body fat calculator on my weekly weigh in at Curves, I had lost three pounds of body fat. Muscle weighs more than fat. Your body may just be adjusting to the weight you have already lost. Did you measure before you started your journey. I'll bet you have lost inches. Let yourself heal! Drink plenty of Water, walk when you can, follow the food plan your doctor has given you and look for the NSV's that are coming your way. One of these days you will step on the scales and suddenly lots of pounds will be gone. When I started mushie foods the scale stopped moving for a few days. After a few days my body got used to the new foods and started losing again. Hang in there! You are doing fine.

    How did you know???

I was way less afraid of those things, which, afterall are easily rectified by removing the band, than I was of major major surgery and having my insides re-routed. Being a relatively modest BMI of 35 meant that that option would probably not be available to me anyway, if they did gastric bypass in Australia anymore. I also dont care to lose a ton of weight in a very short amount of time, look like a corpse and have a problem with loose skin. I love love love my band. I am living a completely normal life, just one in which I eat a bit less. I eat way less junk, but I eat out, I eat with family, I sometimes eat yummy things for a treat, I can exercise (I've started running again, a MAJOR NSV for me), its simply the best thing I ever did. If I should lose it one day due to a complication, well I guess I'll face that when I come to it. I think I would see how I went without it for a while - I only have 1.3 ml in my band and no real restriction, much of what I've achieved has come from conscious behaviour modifcation. I'd have to say the band's major influence on my has been psychological - I dont expect to fail, therefore I dont.

    My very first every NSVs

Thanks guys!!! My laptop decided to give up the ghost so my ability to post anything to the internet is temporarily suspended, but once everything gets figured out I will definitely post a Then&Now. Another NSV this morning - a year before my surgery I had bought a cute t-shirt in the biggest size available from a grocery store in my hometown, it had the store logo and dancing vegetables and I thought it was cute. The biggest size in the women's style was an XL and when I tried it on I could barely get it over my breasts, it felt exactly like a corset, and forget about pulling it down any further. Fellow sleevers, as I write this, I am wearing that shirt with a pair of jeans. In public. =) =) Oh, and I'm down another 2 pounds - I am now officially half way to my surgeon's goal, and 10 lbs from halfway to my personal goal. =) =) =)
