Almost 10 weeks post op GS.. still can not eat or drink, receive TPN though my PICC 16 hrs a day, Now injecting my line with Zofran every 6 hours, so help keep the nausea at bay a lil bit.. Have home health comes in to do blood work and change picc bandages. Was back in hospital for 3 days. My platelet count has been tanking out,, 1 week my count was only 13, it jump back close to normal, and now this week it on decline again. They are still running test to try to figured out what is going in.. Still searching for answers. As the days go by i feel more and more defeated. Surgeon say give it time, it should get better.. Well SHOULD doesn't scream confidence.

    July 2023 buddies

This will be short as I am physically and mentally exhausted. My sleeve op was a success HOWEVER I am still in hospital and not expected to be released until Friday (19 days vs 2 days) as I suffered severe pancreatis. My blood work is starting to show improvement but I'm signed off work until end of August and it could take up to six months to recover.
  3. speaking of yogurt, this one is my FAVE. it's SuPEr thick and lusciously creamy but u pay for it in calories (200 cals for 3/4 cup serving, and 10% fat!)...but sooo good.. i just buy the plain though, i find flavoured yogurts too sweet.
  4. Highest weight: 346 Weight the day of surgery: 316.4 Current weight: 266 It’s been 9 months since I had the sleeve and I’ve only lost 50 lbs. I‘ve expressed my concern with my surgeon, and she seemed somewhat concerned. She put me on Phentermine which helped me lose 10 lbs but that’s about it. I can’t eat as much as I used to, but I can still eat quite a bit before feeling full which scares me. I portion my food out to try to avoid overeating. I’m not sure what more to do. I don’t have any health issues other than being obese. I’ve been feeling really defeated about this. Does anyone have any advice on maybe kickstarting the weight loss again or maybe taking a different route for another surgery?
  5. July 15th marked my 4th year post VSG to RNY I started with VSG in 2017 and was converted to RNY IN 2019. There seems to be more revision post lately but not a lot of long term revisioners or info floating around so feel free to ask me anything!
  6. I’m about 10 weeks post surgery. At what point can you drink liquids with food? With the summer being here, after I come back for a walk, I’d like to drink some water and heat up dinner. Pretty frustrating I have to wait 30-45 minutes before I can eat and it’s already a long work day.
  7. I am currently 10 days post op Vsg. I don’t seem to have any restriction when eating. Has anyone experienced this ?

  9. I got french vanilla ENSURE MAX PROTEIN 35 grams protein 1sugar 2carbs (something like that).. The french vanilla mixed with dunkin donuts coffee in the morning for breakfast taste great. Been my go to breakfast every morning. I make 10 cups of coffee, mix half of french vanilla in 5 cups then when i am ready I do the other 5 cups and mix the other half !!! have fun
  10. With that I do not see how your getting 40 carbs a day. I know you said under 40 grams of carbs a day and that would for sure be under. I am not sure what a swiss cheese wedge is where are your carbs are coming from? I am only getting the 4 or so carbs in the shake 2 times a day so it has to be under 10 for me.. I am worried about the 3 week stale myself because been doing so good and I would hate to slow down right now. I have access to 15 floors in my apartment building so I just walk up and down the stairs for 27 min in the morning and evening for exercise. I can start my free weight lifting again in 8 more days the dr told me 4 weeks after surgery I can start back weight lifting. I started doing the flights of stairs a week after surgery. Maybe we are over thinking it all.. LOL
  11. First surgery / Lost 55lbs with pre surgery diet in 5 months doing atkins / low carb. They only told me no coffee first 2 weeks. Then ok and said max 3 cups a day. I handle it great no problems. I did wait 2 weeks before trying any. I am only eating the ensure max protein shake in the morning mixed in the coffee. Protein shake by itself for lunch. 2 eggs or a can of tuna or half a can of chicken chunk breasts for dinner. keeping it simple and I am hardcore. Not counting calories at all.. I am counting protein and carbs.. Keeping carbs under 10 grams a day and you can calculate the protein its a lot.. They took my cigs. they took my weeed.. they are not taking my coffee
  12. I am 22 days out gastric bypass.. In the morning for breakfast I take my ensure max protein shake (0 sugar 2carb 30mg protein) french vanilla and pour half of it in 5 cups of coffee as milk replacement taste great. I make 10 cups drink 5 and then drink the other 5 and pour the other half in that. Dont tell the dr how much coffee im drinking but im not eating much... No stall yet been loosing steadily half lb or so a day sometimes .75 first few days it was a lb a day but that quit after the first 4 days.

Things that have been helping me Pre-Op

I am currently off of work so I will be home all day. I'm definetely going to need a lot of distractions! Did the liquid diet make you weak or not want to do anything physically? We have a mini beach getaway planned and I love to go in the water and waves I wonder if that's too much for the supervised starvation ill be on 🤣🤣 the premiere protein cake batter shake definetely takes care of my sweet tooth! I want to be under 300 for my surgery and I have 10 pounds to go I hope I can do it!

Things that have been helping me Pre-Op

What helped me pre-op was I started detoxing and dieting a whole month before my surgery. I started with a semi-liquid diet on May 11th. Protein Shake for breakfast and lunch and a healthy, no carb dinner. I stopped drinking alcohol and upped my water to 6 or 7 bottles a day. Then 10 days (because they had a cancellation and asked if I wanted it sooner than scheduled) before surgery, I started on all liquids. In the first 24 days before surgery, I lost 23 lbs. That really, really motivated me and made me feel so good both physically and emotionally. It also helped the surgeon with a successful surgery because of the liver shrinkage. Y'all have some awesome ideas!

    Stalls and plateaus

Well, I'm 14 months out from my sleeve and 2 weeks out from my sleeve to bypass revision (had horrendous gerd, esophagitis, gastritis, and a ton of pre-cancerous polyps). With my sleeve (and also what I will be doing with my bypass) I was at 90g protein per day, 30 carbs or less per day, 900-1000 calories per day when not working out and 1200-1300 calories per day when working out (I was going beast mode, tho), and 50g or less of fat per day. I did different work outs each day. 2 days I would do cardio, 2 days core and strength training, 2 days weight training, and 1 rest day. I would alternate what exercises I did when so my body never got used to what I was doing. If I noticed I was in a stall for 3 weeks or more, I would change up the intensity and actual exercises I did to confuse my body and break the stall. My fluid intake was always 64-76oz per day (zero sugar gatorade and/or flavored propel along with water on work out days, flavored water on non work out days). I lost 116 pounds in 10 months before everything went stupid and I had my complications and ended up needed my revision.

Rocky, hopefully the past 10 days since you posted this your weight has started its gradual decent back down. It is a long process, so don't fret over daily/weekly movements (I know that is way easier said than done). Water weight can really move the scale from day to day. You might be dehydrated one day, then over the next week your body starts to retain some of the water that is has dropped over the past month. It is pretty normal I would say. During my 5 week stall, I went up 4 pounds, but have since dropped that and more. When you look back on this 12-18 months from now, this will just be a blip.
  17. so @GreenTealael's dessert pic got me jonseing for some baked goods, so when i walked by a specialty grocery store, i went in, high-tailed to the bakery and picked up these two beauties: a chocolate peanut butter butter tart and a lemon square! came home and cut out a quarter of each one to try. Verdict: the butter tart was like a 7/10. the filling was awesome, but the pastry was just a little too flaky for my taste. the lemon square was a bit of a fail. not nearly as lemon-y as it should've been. i rate it a 4/10. i only took one bite, but i should've taken a nibble instead, i feel like i just ate a bunch of unenjoyable and unworthy calories! 202 calories for the servings. just left a bit of the lemon square.
  18. I was sleeved in Mexico in 2009, and two years later I lost my gall bladder because all I did was focus on protein and nothing else. I wish I had known that we CAN overdo protein. I wish I'd known that too much protein will kill your gall bladder, your kidneys, and your liver. I wish I'd exercised from the get-go instead of waiting 3 years to finally start getting on that elliptical. It would have given me more muscle tone and less hanging skin. I wish I'd stuck to my exercise instead of letting myself get overwhelmed with all the tragedies I experienced from 2014-2020. I wish I'd gotten therapy instead of looking to Xanax, Ambien, and alcohol to distract me. I'm 23 days out of a revision from a sleeve to a bypass due to weight gain. This journey is going to be much harder than my sleeve. Treasure your sleeve, work with it, respect it. *Edit: You're goal right now should be to hydrate and keep walking. Even just the shuffling around the house is good. It helps prevent blood clots and helps flush out the anesthesia and water retention from the IV fluids. Shuffle around the house 3 or 4 times a day. Count 500 or 600 steps each time. It gets easier. Don't be bending over to grab stuff from the floor. Ask someone to help or get a $10 extended arm grabber thingy. That helped me a lot when I would drop my sock or my vitamin on the floor. 😊

    Depressed before surgery

Same here my original surgery was supposed to be on April 26th. I've lost 22 pounds since my heaviest from following the preop diet before. About 2 weeks before I freaked out and cancelled. Too many people were telling me not to do it, horror stories and I barely had any support. This time I have not told anyone I'm doing it yet except for my sister and best friend. My pre op isn't as restrictive, they didn't give me a set calorie count and liquid starts 2 days before surgery. I did keto diet on my own before this from 2019-2020 and lost 90 pounds naturally, but I gained it back when I met my significant other and went off that diet. I feel like i dont like to exercise so that worries me and haven't found the motivation to start. I keep telling myself it's not important for weight loss and I'll do that x amount of weeks before or after the surgery. It doesn't help that my significant other isn't really supportive. They are worried for me and is the type that if I say I'm depressed and start crying about the surgery, instead of talking me thru it and saying it will pass, they will start crying too 🤣🤣, blame themself for not stopping me, say they dont want to see me suffer and convince me I'm not ready to do it and they won't be able to stand seeing me suffer after. Although I know it's good intentioned again, I need someone who's not as soft. I should be able to say I'm feeling depressed about it without them being the one that gets sad and emotional, I'm the one that should be sad lol. Last time was the second time I cancelled the surgery after going thru all of the motions. Now I'm telling myself third time is the charm and the office is going to think I'm nuts if I keep freaking out and canceling then saying just kidding the next week 🤣🤣

    Depressed before surgery

Thank you guys so much you don't know how much it means to me to have this support and know that I'm not the only one feeling like this. Going back and reading my post and your responses has made me realize how much food controls my supposed happiness when its just food!! There's no reason I can't go see my sister and enjoy her company or go to freaking comic con and see all the amazing things and take a rain check on the Cuban food! I clearly need to change my thinking and am happy that I just scheduled my first therapy session on my own to address my all or nothing thinking. I know I'm going to have a lot of experiences like all of you throughout this journey coming from a big Mexican family where there's always a quinceanera or a birthday with lots of food and friends that love to eat. And I'm also going to have to say no like 10 times before they get it 🤣🤣 taking my food with me is great advice and go to places for the company not the food! all of these tips are so helpful thanks again i feel a lot better🫂

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

Aw that’s a bummer. Yeah, mine said 7-10 days before swimming, but I waited the two weeks just to make sure.

    Food Before and After Photos

Bread was good. The vegan cheddar the usual 2/10 (won't buy again). The chocolate balls cereal I got at a discount were ok but I wouldn't buy for full price. Cherries were bomb. The pear was a pear.

Prices are expensive here though my brother said the prices they’re getting for produce are basically the same as what they got 10 years ago. Yet wages are much higher, as is the price of fuel, electricity, water, fertiliser, equipment, seedlings, transportation, taxes, etc. They are literally losing money every day. Some body (read the supermarkets) is getting the money but it’s not the farmers here. I still pay about $10 for blueberries. They’ve been huge lately like marbles. The cheaper supermarket ones are always overripe & squishy so I throw most out. Cigarettes attract a much higher tax here (think it’s more than 70% now) for many reasons including an attempt to reduce smoking (doesn’t seem to really work though cause they switch to vaping) & contribute to the funding of our medical system. They’re also jumping down on vaping here too.
  24. Do you know what a 10" south shore bar pizza is? They are served bars south of Boston for the most part and are delicious. Today, the Cape Cod Cafe (not on Cape Cod and not a cafe either) serves $6 cheese pizzas. Absolutely delicious. I bought one figuring that I'd eat half for lunch. I had it in the car and couldn't wait to get home. Started eating , and kept eat slowly over the course of 45 min until it was all gone. Oh no! What have I done?! I'm scaring myself a bit because I'm only 4 months out and don't want a big stomach. How come some foods allow me to eat normal portions or even over-eat, and other foods, like eggs, keep me line?. In addition to pizza, I can eat a lot of salmon too (2 fillets). Anyway, looking for explanations, encouragement and support. Many thanks. I started at 386, and after about 4 months ( in a week) I'm down 72 lbs. That's the good news. But I'm not even half way to my goal, hence the worrying.
  25. digging through the freezer for something to eat and found some chicken pot pies i made a while back and froze for future use. 2 mins in the microwave to defrost, then 10 mins in the toaster oven to crisp up the crust. still as good as the first time, lol. ate 1/2 for approx 322 calories.
