6 weeks post op ZERO WEIGHT LOSS AND DEPRESSED

I track and weigh everything. I’m just so over this journey to be honest. I work out too so even though I may be at 1200 calories the working out should offset that. I asked the dietician weeks back if that can be the issue, too many calories to fast and she told me no because I’m still in a deficit for my weight. I wish I could read my bodies mind lol
  2. I think you are fine. I hear from a lot of people that they are around 25-30 lbs lost by week six. You don't want to lose so fast that it is unhealthy, and you have extra skin. I was told that I wouldn't hit 1-1200 calories until month six. But even 1200 calories shouldn't be an issue if you are eating the right foods. I think sometimes people have this expectation that it is all going to fall off quickly. My doctor said you should lose 50-60 lbs the first six months. Breathe and just keep tracking your food and plugging away. I am four weeks out and I have never puked either. I even was able to eat a small amount of birthday cake. Give it time.

Good luck dear!! Looks like you’ve come a long way!

my surgery is scheduled in just three more days and I’m so excited! You keep on keeping on sis and don’t forget when doing your two week pre op liquid diet, to just handle it one day at a time - it will pass - and it is so so important to really stick with it!

    A1C levels?

My A1C is 6.0 and in my initial consult report the Doc wrote that it must stay below 8.0. I do not know if that is a hard fast rule but seems to be the standard number he goes by. I don't think the Op will have any concerns.

    A1C levels?

You usually don't need to fast for A1C testing. Also, 7.1 really isn't horribly high. Considered controlled for a diabetic but it would be considered high for someone who is not diabetic. To make yourself comfortable, I say it doesn't hurt to ask. Although. I am sure you will hear from them anyway if there is concern with your blood work.

    A1C levels?

You shouldn't need to fast for an A1C test. This test is actually measuring your average blood glucose over the past 90 days or so. That's one of the advantages of the A1C compared to just measuring your current blood glucose level. It's not impacted at all with things like how soon you ate, so it's a better measure for diagnosing diabetes.

    A1C levels?

You may want to see if you can or should get it tested again closer to your surgery. I mean ask your dr and ideally it’s not a big deal at all but if it is ask if you can test again in hopes that you can get it down before they cancel you. One time I went to the lab and the computer asked if I had fasted for 8 or 12 hours (whatever the requirements are supposed to be according to the lab) and I realized that I never really do that but this time I was extra early appointment and I realized it wasn’t long at all since midnight. I always was told by my dr just nothing after midnight which means I never have done the full time and everything had always been normal though. Anyways, my cholesterol was a little higher than normal and I asked if that could be why and he had me test it again and it went down (now it’s back up but that’s a different story). Maybe you just didn’t fast as long as you usually do and you need to test it again?? Just a thought

6 weeks post op ZERO WEIGHT LOSS AND DEPRESSED

I track everything I put in my mouth into the bariatric app. I weight everything that is not pre measured. i am on the treadmill or swimming laps at the pool daily. I tried the do nothing method and was gaining so that doesn’t work for my body. i have a Apple Watch I wear 24:7 except when it’s charging that keeps track of everything including my steps, calories burned, caloric intake, etc. my dietitian is the one that said I should be walking or swimming. Things I find so weird when reading about others sleeve surgery: - dumping, I have not thrown up once or felt I was going to. My stomach hates eggs now but it’s just a really uncomfortable feeling I get - everyone has fast weight loss. Me ALMOST nothing. Dr thinks my intial weight loss week one was fluid. We are two months post op. And seven weeks from when I got back and was weighed at my dr. - I can eat more than a cup of food at a time if I wanted to. I don’t. But I can easily polish off a Greek yogurt cup and still be very hungry.

    Sleeve or Bypass Regrets?

I went back and forth a bit on if I should have went for bypass rather than sleeve. But I don't regret my decision. I know that I will not lose as fast, but I am ok with that, and I like knowing that revisions are possible.

You must be doing some intense workouts to burn that many calories are you sure you should be doing that this early after major surgery? Burning almost the same as your in take is not a great idea. If your figures are correct you should be loosing weight fast. Can I ask how you are measuring your calorie intake and what you are burning during exercise?
  11. I had considered wls for about 20 years, but when in was a new RN in the late 90s, it had a pretty high mortality rate. I didn't have any comorbidities then, at 207 pounds, so it just wasn't for me. Fast forward 20 something years later and I was 393 pounds with a bmi of 69.9 (I'm 5'3") and had also recently developed high BP. I had also been diagnosed with severe asthma that was hard to get under control, not to mention how uncomfortable I was and unable to do so many things because of my weight, although I did a surprising amount for someone as big as I was. Anyway, in January 2020 my liver enzymes were the highest they had been after being high for several years and I got an appt. With a liver specialist. Before that I had my gallbladder removed and mentioned that to the surgeon who said he'd biopsy my liver. At my follow up appt., he said my liver looked really bad and that he didn't think I'd make it to 60 years old if I didn't lose weight. I was 48 at the time. He recommended wls. And for the first time, I had a doctor speak to me with compassion, without blaming ME for my weight and he told me how much safee wls is these days and that it would reset my metabolism. It was because of him that I decided that day that I would do it and I ended up having my SADI-S in July of 2020. 200 pounds later I am feeling amazing and like I can do anything. My asthma is so much better that I don't need to see my pulmonologist anymore, I don't have high BP, no longer pre-diabetic, and my liver enzymes are normal. I could go on for days about all the benefits. It was by far the best thing I ever did! Sent from my Pixel 5a using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. Nearly 1mth update. Still eating correct foods and feeling better every day. Sept 11th I weighed in at 229. Today I weigh 217. I sure dont miss the bigger me. Most folks looked at me before and thought, " He could move a refrigerator!". Now they look and wonder if I hurt myself opening the door to one. lol. I get asked about any flab from fast weight loss since i was so close to 300lbs. Well I walk alot and do daily stretches. I am actually more tone than i have ever been. I was concerned with it myself at first but the dr assured me skin can still recover with elasticity. But you have to do the work. I'd gladly help anyone with the prediet I did before the surgery . I managed to lose before I even under went the knife. I have the info scanned and will share with anyone.

    SO SCARED

Not everyone loses hair. I didn’t. And for those who do it’s not like they lose big chunks of it or anything. It’s like the same hair that would’ve fallen out probably the next season or whatever just falls out sooner. And new hair is still growing, just not as fast as you lose it so it does thin some. From what I was told only things that help are to stay on top of your vitamins and protein. I was able to do my protein from the very beginning so that could’ve played a part in why I didn’t really lose any?? Many females consider partial wigs or extensions before surgery (I know that extensions were my plan), but so far I haven’t really Heard of anyone actually getting them? Maybe the loss is not as dramatic as expected, I’m guessing. I have heard of a few people cutting their hair shorter and coloring it a lighter color though and that seems to help give the illusion of fuller hair. if you had more time I would strongly urge you to go try some human hair extensions (if your female or have longer hair). They are pretty simple to use and can be cut and dyed to match your hair if you can’t find them in your exact color. They are actually kinda fun and they add volume and length if you want to add length. I purchased mine at Sally’s beauty supply and took them to my hairdresser to teach me how to put them in. For shorter hair I know they have hairpieces that I assume have gotten better over the years as well. Maybe google extensions or partial wigs/ hair pieces and look for before and afters. The focus of the extensions may be on the length because that’s the primary use but it depends on how many you add how much volume it adds. You can use two packs and add twice the volume.

For everyone on real food, how’s it going? I just started this week and it’s been interesting. I still find myself gravitating to soft foods but I definitely am careful about speed. I ate breakfast too fast the other day and I had a vomit moment before taking my daughter to school. The amount of food actually eaten is a ridiculously small amount - it’s so bizarre! My plan is not specific at all on what to eat so it’s a lot of trial and error….what are some of your meals like?

What made you decide to have a WLS?

I was in high school (late 90’s) and saw some kind of dateline/news special about bariatric surgery. By that point I was already doing diets with my mom. It had been in my mind since. Fast forward 20 years to 2019 and I had my appendix removed. At my post op appointment my surgeon (who also happened to be a bariatric surgeon- I didn’t know that when the hospital asked me if I had a surgeon I preferred. I chose him because he had previously saved my dads life) asked me if I had thought about weight loss surgery. I said I had and he recommended that I sign up for the program his office offered, so I did.

    Just starting my journey

I met with my surgeon a couple weeks ago. I thought I had my mind made up that I was going to do the sleeve but he told me with my hiatal hernia and Gerd that he would only do a gastric bypass. The more I read the posts on here I agree that this is the best option for me. I got my psychologist appt and got some paperwork in the mail to fill out. Many questions about my eating habits. What I eat if I am eating uncontrollably etc. Then in the middle of it a random question if I like to waterski! I laughed out loud! Then later in the questionaire it asked if I like to downhill snow ski at a fast speed. I know they are wondering, if I am a binge eater, bulimic, anorexic etc but what are the speed questions for? Adreline junkie?

You will do great! It is so worth it. This last year has flown by so fast and I am so grateful. It’s tough at first, but gets easier every day.

    September surgery buddies!!

I have been cheating a bit on the puréed diet… mostly because the idea of purées repels me. But I have been chewing really really well instead. Tiny bites of chicken from a soup, a piece of bacon today, little tiny pieces of turkey sausage in scrambled eggs… my stomach seems to do fine except I am still struggling with eating too fast and I think I am eating just a bit too much at one sitting. Is anyone else finding that they aren’t struggling with nausea with food? Even a sort of spicy SW chicken soup isn’t bothering me… just feel overly full sometimes.
  22. Just had my revision 4 weeks ago! My liquid diet was protien shakes, broths, low sugar yogurt, low fat cottage cheese, sugar free jello, and sugar free popsicles. Oh, and any sugar free drinks (non-carbonated) and tea. I had a sleeve 7 years ago and gained all my weight back as well. I decided to do gastric bypass because I knew I needed more permanent help if I wanted to truly get healthy. I was arrogant and not in the right frame of mind when I got my sleeve so I sabotaged myself. This time, I was 100% ready and its been soooo much better and the will power to want to do better seems almost natural now. Having said that, when I did my liquid diet before surgery, I dropped weight so fast! 12 lbs in 1 week and was down 21 lbs by the time my surgery rolled around (3.5 weeks). So, doing the liquid diet again definitely re-starts your sleeve but it will be up to you to keep up the diet after, which for me is the hard part. Good luck, whatever you decide to do!
  23. I've read before you can restart your sleeve by going back on a liquid diet for 5 days. I had a sleeve 7 years ago and just updated to a bypass 4 weeks ago an I can tell you when I had to do my liquid diet again, I dropped weight FAST. Like 12lbs in a week! Almost to the point where I questioned if I even wanted to have another surgery. In the end it was better for me to have it, but maybe that might help you.
  24. Hi. I know that we all had our different reasons for having WLS. I did it because I was fed up with yo-yo dieting. I was on-off Keto diet for over two years. I've lost some weight and gained it all back in the end. The longest I've stayed on diet was 5 months and that paid off really well (lost 25 kg). But then Covid-19 hit. I was about to go back to Keto diet in January 22 when my sister called to tell me she was going for the mini gastric bypass. That was the first time time I've heard of it. Fast forward three weeks and I'm on the plane flying to Egypt to have mine. My "breaking point" was finally going back to work in the office and having to remove the arm rests of my office chair because it somehow "shrunk" and was squeezing my thighs. How about you? What made you decide to have the surgery and what was the breaking point?

    Unable to vomit

Aah the foamies. For me they happen if I eat something too coarse, too dry, too rich or too fast & it gets ‘stuck’. I don’t vomit as such any more but I regurgitate. The offending bite or two of food sort of bubbles up - sorry sounds a bit gross. But there’s no real clenching of the stomach muscles because the food hasn’t really got down into the stomach yet. The only good thing is once you spit up the saliva or regurgitate that last bite you feel better pretty quickly after (unlike dumping). It doesn’t necessarily happen when I’m eating though. It can slowly build up over a little time afterwards: restriction, coughing, saliva & then sometimes regurgitation. Salmon can be too rich because of how naturally oily it is @Hazel40. I can’t tolerate oily fish now though I wasn’t great with it before either. Try poaching it in milk (add herbs of choice) as a lot of the oil will go into the milk & give it a milder taste.
