(Bump bc I don't wanna make a new thread) I mentally prepared myself for my 3 week stall, but bc I had to stop taking birth control to avoid blood clots, my period also came at the exact same time week 3 started. Not only did i stall, but I have a ton of water weight, so I 'gained' a bit. Luckily I know what's going on& i know that's gonna go away & so I don't feel too bad about it, but MAN your first stall is really a bummer. I just gotta keep going

100lbs before and after
1excited replied to FeelingFancy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Awesome job!! I was sleeved 3/16/16 and just broke the 3 week stall. Any tips? Sent from my SM-G530T using the BariatricPal App 1excited I have been fortunate to not have had any stalls as of yet but I switch up my exercises every week because even before surgery my body got used to doing an exercise to quickly and then I wouldn't have results. I am also fortunate to have 2 personal trainers as best friends and have my best interest at heart so they make the routines for me each week. i am also very conscious about what I am eating even though it is still in very small amounts I am making healthy Protein packed choices I mainly eat meat (steak, chicken, fish and turkey) chat this point don't have room for much else. I walk everyday on lunch for 45 to 55 mins and take frequent breaks to help get to my 10,000 steps a day. Best advice I have for you is to be doing this for yourself and no one else you will be your best motivation or your own worst enemy. Sometimes we have to get out of our own way and step out on another path. I have changed my way of thinking no more mindless snacking, meals are prepped and thought out every Sunday for the week and exercise is on top of my daily activities to do. I wish you the best of luck on your journey!. Thank you for such amazing advice Sent from my SM-G530T using the BariatricPal App -
Not losing anything? ?
foreversleeved08 replied to tnf0920's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've read about the 3 week stall but nothing about the 3 week gain :/...sorry to hi-jack UR post OP, but im genuinely concerned about what I could be doing wrong or what I can change. I have gained 5lbs after losing 23lbs...I follow my diet religiously, low carb, only eating two table spoons of food...I barely hit 500 cals. Should I be eating more? My plan says 500 cals so that's what I've been doing. I'm still working up to hitting protein and water goals I get about half of protein 35g and about 50 ounces of water per day. I went from losing near a pound a day to gaining 5lbs in one day. BM are good,..what can I do differently yall? I don't want to fail at this. -
I'm 10 weeks out, and I eat about 500-650 calories per day. I avoid pasta, bread, rice, anything really sweet, I feel sick to my stomach when I attempt to consume them. 3 weeks into my journey I hit a stall, and now the weight is coming off very slowly. My 3 month appointment is scheduled for the first week of May and I'm nervous about going since my surgeon made me feel bad about my 3 week stall.

Has anyone else hit the "3 week stall"? I have! I lost 12lbs the first week, 3lbs the second week and the third week and I gained and lost the same 1lb all week! Irritating, but I'm doing exactly what I should be doing (700-ish calories, 60-70 protein, lots of water). Hopefully next week I start losing again!

4 weeks post-op troubles

I'm at my 3 week stall too! It's normal if you've already lost a lot of weight in the first two weeks. All of the vets say to Just keep following your plan! -
So I am 7 weeks post op from the gastric sleeve ... I have worked to be diligent, but, I am facing the challenge of lactose intolerance and it is still hard for me to get the Water down that I am supposed to. so far, I have lost 60ish lbs ... which, I know is great, but, I am bummed this morning as I only lost 4 lbs this past week ... I don't cheat, pretty much eat only Protein (get close to 100 to 125 grams of protein daily), lift weights 3 days a weeks and cardio 6 days a week ... I know about the 3 week stall and I experienced that, am I just being too hard on myself, will there be weeks like this where I don't lose as much? I know everyone is different, but, what is a realistic goal to lose each week pound wise .... is 4-5 lbs great or should I expect more? Thanks everyone for your continued support.

I finally hit 50 pounds lost today!!!! It's exactly 3 months since my surgery and I'm down 1 clothing size, 1 ring size, and 50 pounds!!!! It seems like my body likes to do a 2-3 week stall every month and a half or so, so it's been slow going. But it FINALLY happened today. WooHoo!!!!! -
I think it is. Search for 3 week stall and there are a few discussions on it. And yes, it really sucks! :-(

April Update from everyone
StacyS replied to Ready2BHealthier's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Feeling much better today! I was able to drink all my hot protein chocolate cocoa, cream of potatoe soup, and just had about 6 small bites of refried beans for lunch! I have already finished a 16oz bottle of water and am working on a 20oz protein drink (cappachino flavor). This is the first day since my surgery that I have actually been able to eat this much and drink too! OMG, maybe this sleeve is actually gonna work?! Lets just hope my 3 week stall from last week doesnt carry over into this week too!! ugh... I've been stuck at the same exact weight since last monday. no movement. I'm increasing my fluids and calories so lets hope that works!! -
Vitamin Intake
summerseeker replied to rockystart94's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All this is normal. Your doing great. Water and medication and vitamins are the hard at the beginning. Your stomach is so swollen and sore. My surgeon said my new swollen stomach was the size of the inside of a pen. After a month you will begin to see improvements. I felt as if the only things I did all day were trying to drink. One day it just got easier. Space your vitamins out all day, get liquid ones where possible and gummy multivitamins if you can find one you are happy with. I had to crush some medication and take it with yogurt or honey. Its vile though. If your team allow then try vitamin patches. If you have trouble with acid heartburn ask your team for anti nausea medication/ PPI If you try warm, freezing and cold drinks you may find you tolerate one better than others. I did so much better on hot drinks, it caused less of a spasm. I never went down the protein route, my surgeon believes in dairy produce. So I drank full skimmed milk instead. You can try thinning down your protein drinks with water or milk You are about to have a stall in your weight loss that will make you wish for it back PDQ. Its called the 3 week stall. You will loose muscle. The more you walk and exercise when you can, will slow this. You will end up with a smaller frame so do not need the mass of muscle that hauls you around now . I never exercised, just walked. My muscle loss is just right. I look good in clothes. -

When you DO break a stall......
sleeveorbust replied to Connie0394's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOL!! Gayle, I do the exact same thing!! when i realized my weight moved i go to change my ticker immediately! its so funny how that happens but i guess im not the only one that does that!! ... i have just experienced my first "3 week stall" and Im not beating myslef up over it because i know that the body naturally has stalls during weight loss as to adjust to the changes that we are going through! when its over its really amazing and you start to celebrate!!! -
Hi I had my VSG on 7/19/22. I did not experience the hunger because I was not able to keep down water for 2 days. The worst! However, it got much better on the 3rd day. I weigh myself every Monday as a gauge to stay on track. I also measure myself for non-scale victories (NSV) as this helps me to not just focus on the scale. I did hit the 3 week stall but pushed through by walking/drinking more.

When was your first plateau?
MG1776 replied to PopsFury's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Search up "3 week stall." This stall varies in length but will break. Continue on track and before you know it, the scale will start to drop. Mine lasted about 10 days. There will be more stalls throughout your journey. -
When was your first plateau?
RHCD replied to PopsFury's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep - I had the dreaded 3 week stall. Stayed on plan and it worked itself out. That’s seems to be a pattern, I stall, stay in plan and evaluate am I really on plan and continue on / tweak as needed. Still in a stall/slight gain but was starting to see movement but now between the weather impacting my main exercise of walking (stupid unhealthy smoke from NW fires) and now an emergency gallbladder removal surgery it may last a little longer. You’ve got this!!! -
march sleevers the good and the bad
SerendipityHappens replied to thriving1726's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just posted my before and during picture to my profile here for anyone who is interested... The pic difference represents 59 pounds lost from when I first booked my surgery date. For the month of March I've lost 21 pounds. 7 pounds during the two weeks preop and 14 since my surgery on March 13th. I'm THRILLED with my March loss even though I know that there are some who lose much more.. but I've been on 800 calories a day since the beginning of December so I didn't expect super dramatic results! I'm pretty sure I'm entering a stall now. My weight loss pattern historically always includes 2-3 week stalls followed by big losses so I'll just have to ride it out! -

Great! Finally losing again after a 3 week stall
-
I have been stalled / fluctuation the same 3 lbs for the past MONTH ! I am not even 3 months post op. I had surgery on Oct 14th. I stopped losing right after thanksgiving and have been fluctuating since. It's now a new year and I want to get back to losing. How common is a month long stall? I was reading that stalls happen at 3 months. I was early with my 3 week stall and got it at 2 weeks. Maybe I got a month long stall at 2 months instead of 3? I thought about doing the 5 day sleeve test to get my system back on track. As far as inches, I did lose, but as of lately (past several weeks) I haven't lose any inches. I'm just super frustrated and need to know how common this is or if I need to call my DR ? Here's my month chart .. Frustrating !! Thanks for letting me vent !

FINALLY found a way to break a stall!
BigTink2LilTink replied to Jewelgirl04's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Me and another WLS friend are doing this starting today. http://5daypouchtest.com/plan/faq.html#9 I hope that it will help me get past my now 3 week stall. So far today I have only had Protein shakes and tomorrow will be the same. Wed I will be back on soft solids again and by Thrus/Frid regular food again. I hope that this will help so I can finally get to that 250 and under club for us giant guys. -

"journey" "3 week stall" "only x lbs" (in a dismissive way in referring to lbs lost) and, similar to @Tomo, i have a pet peeve about the ANGST folks unnecessarily put upon themselves when comparing their own results to others without CONTEXT. Yes, Sally may drop 30 lbs the first month because she started off at 350 lbs, vs Jane who lost "only" 10 and started off at 200. And yes, Joe, who is also 350 lbs lost 50 lbs, but he is like 8 inches shorter than Sally and is a dude. and there is brenda who lost 5 lbs cuz she has a medical condition and hasn't yet learned how to adjust her lifestyle around it. we all have the same goal: to lose weight. in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter sh*t if i lost faster/slower more/less than some random stranger on the internet. *rant over* -
Sleevers 15th September to 21st September Check in
Ash51 replied to knzt's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sleeved 15 September, dropped about 22lbs since then but it looks like I've also hit the 3 week stall. Not too discouraged as it's coincided with moving to pureed foods and walking 2 1/2 miles to work each day so I suspect (hope) it's partly adding muscle from exercise while still losing fat. My clothes are still feeling looser. -
I am totally with you. I am about 15 weeks out and have been on a very frustrating 3 week stall. I dont feel like I've changed my diet or exercise other than maybe I should be working out 5-6 days a week instead of 3-4. I also get in about 30-40g of protein a day and am wondering if that's affecting my diet and hair loss. Keep up the good work so far!!
