I'm a lap band to sleeve revision. With my lap band, I struggled with solid Proteins. They would get stuck and be uncomfortable to the point of vomiting. I learned to rely on crackers, chips, creamy things. All the way up to 378 lbs. I ate around the band. I suspect you can eat around the sleeve too. I'd go see my nutritionist asap and find solutions that will help you not hinder your progress. I'd even rely on Protein drinks before crackers and such. Treat those things like poison. That's my experience anyway. Dee Dee -
Like I said above: Weight gain, yea, it's real! I'm 3 yrs out (next week) - band to sleeve revision. I had done a pretty good job staying focused & losing weight. My start weight was around 245 pounds & my average weight was around 138 to 140 pds. My lowest was 135, but that didn't last long. I'm about 5'2. I know, a giant. So, my struggle started slowly but surely, a few months ago. So, most sleevers can't really eat a lot, which is good, because our tool is working. HOWEVER, it's up to you to eat the right foods. Well, I'm married to a BIG snacker! Hubby eat crap all the time. We're talking things like chips, crackers, chocolate, etc... I used to be able to ignore his snacking, but due to work related stress (hey, that's my excuse), I started to munch. Then, it happened. I was laid-off mid November. Yup, right before the holidays. Guess what happens when you're searching for a job, while sitting on your butt, day in / day out, for hours & hours..... You eat anything because you're frustrated / stressed / bored.... you name it. I know these are only "excuses" but I genuinely feel over-whelmed. We've been able to sustain ourselves, and should be able to hold on for another month or so, but after that.... shits going down. I only got 5 weeks severance as I was only there for 1 1/2 yrs. Thankfully, I had around 150 hours PTO that I never used. But, I did have to cash out some 401K funds to sustain us a little longer. The stress, yea, it's real!!! OK, what's the point of my post? IDK, I guess I'm looking for support. For anyone that's several years out, how do you keep your focus going, and avoid the stress eating? Yea, I know, being fat is NOT an option... but I am. I feel it. I'm almost 150 pounds. How did I let this happen? How on Earth do I get my mojo back? I was doing so well... Now what?

A lot of people get revisions from the sleeve to the DS too, which is the surgery I had. I opted for it for the same reason that a lot of people go for the RNY. I wanted one surgery, with great long term results. I've lost 31 pounds in 4 weeks, and I'm sitting at 238.

I saw a lot of posts here and on a Facebook from people who had the sleeve getting a revision to RNY. Also the chances of GERD going away were said to be better per my surgeon. Also I have disordered eating and need the more restrictive diet post RNY. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

My surgeon felt it was the better option due to my starting weight. Also I decided that I wanted one surgery - didn't want to have to have a revision later on if the sleeve didn't work out.

Hi, I am going under the knife on Jan 30. Quite nervous about the slice and dice option. No going back from there. Had a band put in in 2007. Lost around 50kg but have put it back on. It was the hitting of my starting weight that triggered the decision. Plus all the things slim people didn't experience such as difficulty going to the toilet, breaking chairs, having no one sit beside you on the train, not fitting into plane seats, sweating, etc. Had a revision about 10 years ago which was open surgery, which has come around to bite me on the bum. When the surgeon goes in to remove the band, he might not be able to do the SAGB due to scar tissue. He won't know until he goes in. I am grateful for the band because it took me nearly 20 years to get back up to where I am now, even though it was often through bulimic behaviour. Me and my 3 siblings all had bands done about the same time. One sister is the only success story, with our brother dying last year through weight complications. He expected miracles from the band without the personal effort involved. I fell into the same trap but did not revert to the easy-eat stuff based on ice cream and milk which he did. Instead I pushed my body to the point where my pouch and oesaphagus are stretched. I can eat a normal meal and not feel it. Fears? Post op discipline. If I had the courage and self discipline to say no to myself in this area of my life, I would not be at this point. So the big unknown is will I F it up with my wrong-headedness. A personal challenge we all face. (Not helped by almost pathologically hating Many of the 'good foods' ????

I have anxiety and told mine that it was well controlled with medicine and therapy. I talked with them about how I planned to deal with the emotional side of things post surgery. I was approved. The point is to have a plan in place instead of just entering into the surgery blindly Katy W- Louisburg, NC Lapband revision to VSG with DS HW- 297 Weight at Surgery-279 CW- will update at two week appt

Bill, you have lost 121 pounds and you aren't even 6 months. I expect you will lose a lot more. When I started this, if I am going to be honest, even though I set a goal of 180, I really never thought I would get below 250. I accept that I would be a smaller plus sized woman forever. Well now that I am easily under 200, and far before the 2 year mark, I am aiming for 165. I think a guy your height and build 275 would be a nice weight. Great response, although I would just say that you might surprise yourself about being thin. And I say this from a personal perspective. I, also, said/thought I would never be thin. I was always fat with the exception of a few years where I wrestled/played football as a kid. When I started out, I was 333 at 5'8" and just the thought of being around 200 seemed impossible. I am 9+ months out from surgery and about 11 months out from starting the weight loss process. I am now 148lbs and thin by any objective measure. I'm not saying you will be thin, that you even desire to be thin, or that you should aspire to be thin. Just saying that this surgery is really amazing thing that may surprise you in a lot of ways. I'm not special. I got thin just by following my plan and doing what I was supposed to. Thank you. I am open minded. I started out with a goal of 325 after doing the math, based on the information provided by the people at my program - math based on fat, Water, and muscle mass. I revised that down to 300 after I got started. If I go lower than 300 without losing muscle, I am fine with that. But, I will be very surprised. -
I had my band removed and got a sleeve with duodenal switch. I knew that I would want the most help possible so I opted for the DS Katy W- Louisburg, NC Lapband revision to VSG with DS HW- 297 Weight at Surgery-279 CW- will update at two week appt

I opted to just get the sleeve done since I would prefer to avoid the side effects of malabsorption if I can. It is possible to have the sleeve converted to a duodenal switch later on down the road if you decide you need it. I think it comes down to - how much weight do you have to lose? How concerned are you about the potential for nutritional deficiencies vs. potentially losing less weight? How much would it bother you to have a revision surgery down the road if you decided you needed to lose more weight?

I had gastric bypass in 2006 and lost 155 lbs. In 6 months. I became exercising everyday by walking and doing Curves 5 days a week. I was losing 2 lbs everyday. I didn't want alot of loose skin so I thought all the exercising would help. First surgery was my gall- bladder 3 months after gastric bypass. Then I started having severe pain. I was passing out because the pain was so bad. Kept going to ER and sending me home with pain pills but no reason for pain. After 3 trips to ER with no answer I went to a different towns ER hoping they would do an MRI or something to find out what was wrong with me. They did an MRI from belly button down and said I had a small cyst on my ovary but that shouldn't be that painful. That ER gave me another script for pain pills. I couldn't even walk I was in a wheelchair. I got to my sister in-laws car and I called the hospital's board president and told him I felt like if I went home I was going to die. He told me to go back into the hospital and he would get me checked in for exploratory surgery. The next morning a gynecologist surgeon went in to do exploratory surgery because of the little cyst they had found. A few minutes after starting the surgery she went into my chest and was horrified to find my entire chest full of puss. They had to stop the surgery and find a doctor who knew about gastric bypass's. Luckily a few months prior to my surgery a doctor had came from Texas after doing over 500 weight loss surgeries and wanted to go into doing ear/nose/ and throat because he was burn out on doing weight loss surgeries. Within 15 minutes he came and did a revision of my gastric bypass because they had hooked my intestines up backwards during the first bypass it had herniated and had been throwing puss and toxins into my chest for a year. When I woke up my entire family was there. They had been called because the doctor didn't think I would make it out of surgery. I had 42 staples from my breastbone to my belly button and 998 stitches from hip to hip. I was 327 lbs when I had the first RNY Gastric bypass, I was now 126 lbs. I now 10 years later have had 17 total surgeries I wish I could go back and never had done it. I still take zofran everyday for nausea and have for 9 1/2 years. I know what your going through and hope you get better and don't give up. I am taking counseling it is helping but Im just tired of being sick all the time. I'm sure you feel the same way. Good luck on your journey. Sent from my XT1093 using the BariatricPal App

Band removal and possible sleeve revision in the morning
ddkVSG replied to DecemberSleeve's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I got a band in 2006. It caused me nothing but trouble for 10 yrs. We could never get the fill right so I had it completely unfilled in 2007. Even with no fill I had problems with food getting so stuck I would have to throw up to dislodge it. I often ate around the band just so I could eat. I finally decided in 2016 that I had enough and pursued getting my band removed and revised to the sleeve. My band was removed in November. After a month to heal I was sleeved December 29. I'm happy I got the revision. DD -

Band to sleeve failure and revision questions
Nowheregirl replied to Nowheregirl's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm meeting with my doctors team Friday and am hoping to get everything out without being told I should "just reset" my diet from the beginning- as in full liquid diet. I am starting to wonder whether or not I was even sleeved! I'm wondering if maybe my band was removed and that was it. I'm so angry and humiliated I can't even sleep. Not for nothing, but even if they do agree to a revision, would I trust them again to do the surgery? Will I be able to afford the cost of whatever they decide?????? -
I am being revised from a sleeve to bypass on the 23rd

Hi all, I am due to have revision on January 23rd due to GERD. For those of you that have had both what was your recovery vs. the sleeve, and did you have additional weight loss.
