  1. I too am obese with no co-morbidities YET. Well hopefully their won't be any because on on my way to a healthier thinner me. I know can understand where you are all coming from, I used to eat very healthily, or so I thought, now I realise just how MUCH i was eating! Obesity and healthy don't go together, because being obese we are at much higher risk of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, strokes etc etc. But being skinny isn't synonymous of being healthy. A lot of skinny people can be alcoholics, drug addicts, so that's not healthy either! But I do agree w Emily Grace, we need to be honest with ourselves to be able to address our problems but as mommyoftwo says, obesity is a complicated and multifaceted disease, cause it is one, and it's not as simple as 1+1=2, that's why obesity is such a big problem! Good luck to all of you in your journey!

I may not be a good case study, I have mostly an iron sleeve. I progressed through my stages faster then technically allowed (due to work travel), and it was no issue. The only issue I have is I get nausea/light dumping if I have too much sugar. I can do limited amounts with no problem, like 1/2 a candy bar, but larger quantities have led to regrets. Other than that I ate a wide variety of food, and drank different types of alcohol quite soon post WLS and had few negative consequences.

    COVID 20

Yes I did the wrong thing! Ate all the wrong stuff ! Drank alcohol! I am 1 year and 2 months out, reached my goal weight and then gained 20 pounds since March. I'm not feeling it and I know I did it. So what now? Don't want to hear about a pouch reset. Sent from my REVVLRY+ using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. Hi. I just got a prescription for CBD, cannabis. I tried an alcohol based tincture, and "ganja glycerin". My main malfunction is pain, then insomnia. I don't think I'm feeling the CBD at all. Is it an absobtion issue? Anyone tried it? You can PM me. Supposedly under the tongue it absobes, entering the blood, affecting faster than inhillation. Of course higher CBD is less THC, so I obviously didn't feel high, but I am not out of pain or soo sleepy, either. Drinking alcohol since my surgery hits hard and fast, and then leaves fast. I don't know I thought I'd at least be sleepy.

    First Time Out Drinking

This isn't a judgement, just a comment I think 4 weeks out is too soon to drink alcohol. You're not even on the life time sleeve diet yet and I believe your stomach is still healing up. I don't thinking youre hitting solids yet are you? I'd give it some thought before I hit the crown and coke. Also, your body I'm guessing hasn't metabolized liquor for a bit so you're a kind of lightweight in that regard. Best wishes to you.

    First Time Out Drinking

I've been to two functions with alcohol and even though I was dying to pour up, I restrained myself. My plan says no alcohol for 6 months and I plan to stick to it. When I had my lap band, I did not follow my plan and ended up with horrible eating habits and slipped band. This time around, I want to do things right. I get it, we're young. My friends like to get tore up drunk lol I wish I could have me a Maker's Manhattan, but this Protein shake will do. Besides, I like greens more anyway Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    First Time Out Drinking

It takes time to heal from a MAJOR surgery. Alcohol does not aid in the healing process. Besides the possible surgical complications, there's also a risk for transfer addiction. Everything in moderation sure, but seems to me like if we were all experts at moderating ourselves we wouldn't be here in the first place [emoji848]. I'd much rather see the vets, supposedly mean and sarcastic, stick around than have to coddle people who just want to be enabled.

    First Time Out Drinking

@@TYRey12, Yes, that sounds about right! Your body metabolizes alcohol faster, and a little goes a long way. Good for you for noticing and for adjusting your intake to stay safe.

Co-Worker Wants To Have Lap Band

A friend of mine is getting banded a few weeks after mine. We got together to talk about it, but I'm worried that he isn't going to be able to make those changes as well. He likes to drink a lot, which is where a lot of his weight comes from. He said that he lied to the doctor about his alcohol consumption, and he doesn't plan to tell him about it.
  10. My husband has gastritus (not banded). The causes of his gastritus are the foods he eats & stress. He shouldn't have spicy foods, alcohol or stress or his stomach hurts and he gets an ulcer that acts up and bleeds a little. He is on Acephex and it helps a lot. He only takes it when his stomach is bothering him and then it heals up and he doesn't need medicine anymore. Maybe its something your eating. Do you eat spicy foods???

I just want a dang cigarette

Thank you for sharing. I am sure you are relating to those that have the same issue with smoking. Personally, my mother smoked for over 50 years. She stopped at age 62 and died at 68 from cancer. I watched my big sister eat and stess herself to death. I am just trying to change my story. We really have little control over so many things. I am just trying to control the things I can. I drink alcohol and that has slowed down. I understand addiction. I just want to end the cycle of premature death on my family. It's indeed hard. 12. i have had this same struggle since surgery. I talked to my dentist about this at my last check up and she recommended Breath RX mouthwash -- it's expensive but it is a non-alcohol based mouthwash (which dries out your mouth and promotes bad breath) -- here is info from the website: BreathRx Anti-Bacterial Mouth Rinse is alcohol free and sugar free. It contains Cetylpyridinium Chloride (CPC) and ZYTEX®, our secret weapon in the fight against bad breath. CPC's know anti-bacterial properties kill the bacteria that lead to bad breath odors, then ZYTEX neutralizes their resulting odors. -- it has really helped me.

    Drinks?!

I was told that alcohol is a no-go like caffein since it isn't good for the pouch. Is this just my Dr, or is it just a strong recommendation?

    Drinks?!

I've had a tiny bit of wine..I say tiny because the 2x I've tried it I was pretty much tipsy after the smallest of sips. I think my surgeons program called for at least 1 year out for alcohol..naughty me I tried it. It hit me super fast. I'm nearly 7mo and just now in the last month or so trying it.

    Constipation Help?

I found that sugar free Water ice from Rita's made me go within 10 minutes of eating it. my surgeon said that the sugar alcohol in it is high and makes you go. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. Which would you liken your situation to: A former alcoholic that starts dating a heavy drinker or the former casual drinker that then starts dating a heavy drinker? Both used to drink but only one at a level so toxic it took a complete lifestyle overhaul to stop. Here's the thing; I think although I would love to say no, don't judge a book by its cover; I have to be honest...food for me became an addiction. It was my go-to. Now having been sleeved, I could not risk picking my addiction back up for anyone not already committed/in a relationship with me. Sure you know the grips of that addiciton and don't want to judge others...but you cannot put your own health and safety at risk. For me, having the sleeve makes the situation more akin to the former alcoholic than the former casual drinker. Changing yourself sometimes requires being around those like yourself. No, you don't ditch those who've been in the throws with you, but you also don't go looking for the next getway drug either. To me, if I were to be dating (as a post-op), someone not into their health would be my gateway drug back to overeating. It's a lot easier to pull someone down than lift them up. Only you know if he would be pulling you back down?

    Consultation:

I don't know, honestly. I don't drink at all (never liked the taste of alcohol), but I think it's a very reasonable question given that you won't be able to drink much after surgery. Can you ask the nutritionist rather than the surgeon? Also, you can try to find out how long before the test for alcohol you have to stop drinking.

    Easy Way Out.....ha!

The alcoholic has a sort of sympathy from society, their addicted, poor thing they can't help it... Obese people have a problem relationship with food, I'll go as far as to say we addicted to it much like the alcoholic is addict to alcohol... The obese person is viewed by society as the person who can't stop eating and does not exercise.... The cure for alcoholism isn't surgery, obese gets a surgery to help with it... People can't connect those dots, no matter how much you explain.. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Easy Way Out.....ha!

Fat = lazy slob Drig and alcohol = poor thing probably had a rough life and needs help. Nobody cares why someone is overweight because you're just lazy. Even with studies showing sugar is even more addicting than some drugs. Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App
  20. Why is it that when people hear that someone who was destroying their body through obesity has lost 100+ pounds with the help of surgery, some will call that a "cop out" or the "easy way out"..... But when someone who is destroying their life through alcohol abuse and gets help through an intensive, in-patient recovery program with medical professionals....how come that's perfectly okay, even laudable? Why is getting serious medical intervention for obesity treated like something to be ashamed of, when we applaud those who take similar intense intervention to drug or alcohol addictions? Aren't we all just trying to save our lives ? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Got Bad News

Wow! I know this has nothing to do with your thread. But I saw you speak at the Hillary Clinton Nomination! Thank You for all that you have done!!!!!!! Now onto your post. No a doctor never should have called you a name. Yes, we are all addicts. Addictions will never go away. I will always be a food addict. The day I forget that I am an addict is the day I break what I am supposed to do. We are all food addicts. That is the reason why we are in the positions we are in. Why do some people cheat on their liquid diets? It is because we are addicts. It doesn't mean we aren't ready for surgery. Heck. Very few people can stick 100 percent to the liquid diet. Just look at this forum. Does that mean those people aren't ready for surgery? No. Should they be insulted the way PeachesCat was? No. We are here for reinforcement. Positive reinforcement. If an alcoholic fell off the wagon they don't need to be attacked. They need to be supported and to tell them start again immediately. You can do it PeachesCat. I am sorry if you are still as sick as you are in that picture. Do not let anybody on a forum get you down. You are going to do great and remember. Nobody needs to insult you. Not a doctor or a unnamed person on a message board. Thank you for your service and your speech with Hillary was AMAZING.

    Worry Wart

Thank you for the site to visit for bariatric recipes and the words of encouragement. I have barely been eating anything... not because I am not hungry but because I am afraid I won't lose weight. It is good to hear of your yummy menu and this will encourage me to try more food rather than just sticking to a few basic items. I tried to cook a large buffet style menu for guests with all healthy type of menu and it was good but seemed very strange to me to be thinking that way. It may take some practice believing that healthy recipes can taste as good as the ones with all the cream and butter! But I will stick to my plan which of course is to lose weight. TOday I saw the gp for my first post op check at 6 weeks and wow. The results were somewhat shocking. Off all meds since surgery yet my BP, cholesterol and sugar levels are WAY down compared to when I was on the meds. What an improvement. She believes my gout may also no longer be a problem although I had no testing done to show that. She tried to claim that this is due to not being able to drink alcohol but I pointed out (silly md) that I used to only have a few drinks once every couple of months so I don't think that small amount of liquor contributed to my having gout. It is amazing to see the change in medical results and the improvements and I remind myself that these are worth even more than the improved appearance. Thanks again.

    Alcohol?

Bubbles are our friend. Had me a nice glass at my daughter's wedding two weekends ago. It was mighty nice. Oh and at her bridal shower about a month before the wedding had me a nice glass of wine and a nice glass of Jamaican Rum Cream on ice. Can we say sloshed? And the games we played at this shower. Let's just say the cake was anatomically correct. And I have pictures to prove it. LOL!!!! Putting a rubber on a cucumber while blind folded and being timed was something to see just let me tell you. I broke my rubber but not after letting one fly off the end first. LOLOLOL!!! GOod time was had by all and the alcohol helped ALOT. And don't get me started on the Bachelorette Party now. WHOO HOO!! Gracie the room is spinning and I want to get off.

    alcohol

For some reason, I'm thinking/assuming you're a female. My phone won't let me check your profile. With that being said, and again it's empty calories, but I'll take a sip or two from my fiancé's beer when we're out. He usually gets it on draft and my nut told us that usually has lower carbonation. Also, I'll wait till he's drank a bit of it to try to let some more of the bubbles go away. I tried to order a cider one time and that was purely painful. My nut also recommended with sodas to open them and let them sit for a while till they are much flatter to just flat period. I think I've had a mojito and that was fine. Don't care for margaritas but I'm assuming that should be fine too. Keep in mind, mojito has a lot of sugar. You're putting in empty calories. It should not be a substitute for food calories and this will cause you to go over your daily calories. When I reduce my alcohol my weight drops faster, when I drink the weight reduction is slower.

    alcohol

I waited 90 days to drink any alcohol, but that was my decision. My doc said alcohol would be okay after one month. I typically drink wine. But occassionally I'll drink vodka straight or mixed with Crystal Light. And I don't get buzzed any quicker than I did pre-banding.
