    One Month Anniversary Check In

Hi all! i hit my one month on the 29th. I've been feeling great the last 2 weeks and I've lost a total of 15 lbs, although I have been at the same weight for the past 10-12 days. i'm hoping that my plateau will end soon, i've been experimenting with different foods to see what I can tolerate. I had a problem at 2 1/2 weeks with a piece of "stuck" food, something I never want to go through again, and it has made me very cautious eating anything that might swell up in my little stomach. my NSV of the month: i've lost most of my "butt shelf"!!
  3. So today is the last day of 8 weeks out from my gastric sleeve surgery. I’ve been thinking a lot about where I am in my journey. I’ve been able to eat meat for about 1 ½ weeks. I can only eat 2-3 ounces. I have to really gnash it up with my teeth, but I can get it down, keep it down and enjoy it. I’ve noticed in the last few days that I can eat and actually feel full. I don’t feel like I’m stuffed and choking on my food. My sleeve doesn’t feel uncomfortable or hurt when I eat. In the beginning I was so frustrated that I would never be able to eat somewhat “normally” again. Coordinating my meds, food, Protein, supplements, and liquids is becoming more routine. I still have to be vigilant, but I don’t feel like I’m “obsessed with food” so much. I gained 10 pounds with my surgery. No one warned me about that. It took about 6 days for that weight to come off. I’ve lost 32 pounds since my journey began, 17 pounds since surgery. My biggest problem, my waist (I’m apple-shaped – worse for the heart), is 2 ½ inches smaller. At 1 ½ weeks out, I went through a 4 week stall. I thought the surgery was a failure and that I would always be a big, fat, unhealthy mess. I had put SOOOO much faith in the surgery, I guess expected immediate results. The stall finally broke, I lost 7 pounds in 2 weeks, and have been in another stall for 5 days. The scale is stuck at exactly 204.0. I want to hit Onederland so bad, but will have to be patient. I have not been losing weight gradually. Even when I do lose, I gain back, lose again, gain back, lose again, with an eventual net loss. My calorie intake is always about the same - no reason for the gain and loss. I started out at size 22-24. Today I put on size 16W pants. Some of my 14/16W shirts fit. I had an NSV – I had to tighten the armband for my IPOD because my arms were smaller. I’ve started hiking again. I can eat some spicy foods finally (love it!). Wow, as I read back over this, I realize that in spite of my difficulties, I’m doing good! Screw this stall! I will be triumphant! The bottom line is, IT WILL GET BETTER! I had a hard time believing this in the beginning, but this website and all of you have been a godsend, giving me faith. Thank you all for being here! ! !

    when I was fat

This is beautiful! I think people do treat us differently when we're obese. However, in fairness, I treated myself differently too. The changes and transformation from losing excess weight are almost amazing... sooo many nsv that make us stronger and better. Congratulations Dee! ♥

    October Chat

Hey Two days in a row!! Yee Haw! I figure since I am never going to get promoted, I may as well take a lunch... :heh: Dianne - good to see you... Sounds like you had a great time... Glad your DH is showing his appreciation in an appropriately lavish way. I can't wait to see the rock. Don't sweat the 1.5 lbs. You'll be well rid of that in no time. Just step away from the cookies! Trust me, nobody understands the cookie compulsion more than me. Patty - trepidation is to be expected. When money is tight, it's scary to give it to a stranger in hopes he will help. Everyone is thinking good thoughts for you. We'll get you banded, yet. Hugs!! My boss made a point of telling me that I was 2nd in line for the job and he knows that other opportunities will arise for me in the future. Don't know how much that actually means - but it was a warm fuzzy in the aftermath of the being pissed off. Kat - I can't see my toes, either. I am happy when I look down and my boobs block my belly from view. That was an actuall NSV for me... lol! No need to send the snakes to the gal... It isn't HER fault my boss hired her. Now, if you wanted to ship a few to HIM... lol! How is your daughter doing? Allison - Great to see you! 40 lbs Rocks! Since surgery? or since the Pre-op? I am keeping track of both, since I have been such a flake since the surgery. Seriously - I have only lost 25 lbs since my actual surgery date - but I lost 16 lbs the week before - so 36 lbs sounds better... Hopefully my renewed enthusiasm for (sorry about the E-word, folks) Exercise will help with that. Did you find a new job, yet? Or are you taking a little State Sponsored Vacation? Cindy - thank goodness, it isn't likely that I will be expected to train the gal who got my job - THIS time... but that has actually happened to me on several occassions. My question is: Doesn't the boss have ANY clue how much it pisses you off to have to train the person who got the job you applied for? Or is it some sadistic thing that they do for their own ammusement? Anyway - yes - we plan on going Saturday. Whether we actually make it out of the house or not is always a question, though. If you send me your cell number, I will give you a call. Eileenie - sorry about the shirts. They looked like they had potential. Bummer. Hope Olivia is doing ok. Hugs!! :bounce: Well - lunch is over again. Hugs to everybody else. Hope you post again, soon! Irene

DeeDee- Thats FANTASTIC!!! I know how frustrating it can be to be "stuck" at certain #'s.... we might put too much emphesus on it.. but itshow we have to be to stay focused. I'm proud for you!! Keep up the good work!!! I'm glad to see you others in here tooo!! I'm loving the company and want to see everyone do well!! Tiff- I got the same problem.. but I think mine is sooooooo much worse....... I have no ass....... everyone is commentting on it!! ( or LACK of it ) But it's all in my belly!! It sucks... my belly is bigger than my ass! Tummy Tuck is a DEFINITE! Gonna wait a year.. but I know I will have to have it done. My g/f I went shopping with was mad... she was a 14!! I have always been the "biggest"... but she was over it quick! And I noticed today in the mirror at work.. the 14 pants I had on were really looking "saggy"............. GREAT NSV!!!

    Period changes

This is in "ladies only" but I don't really care if men read/respond to it (though I have no idea why this would interest menfolk) so... just a disclaimer. Ever since I fell in the "morbidly obese" category my periods have been irregular. Usually I could count on my period to come every other month. Each time I got my period it would come with wicked PMS and menstrual cramps that rival labor pain - funny, when I gave birth and reached 8 cm I thought to myself "Huh, this is what my worst menstrual cramps feel like." Just so people know what kind of hell I've lived with each period! I'd have to take 4 Advil and 1 hydrocodone every 4 hours just to manage the pain. If I missed a dose, I'd be curled up on the floor and weeping. And when my cramps woke me in the middle of the night and I had to wait 45 minutes for the medicine to kick in... unbearable. Anyway, after I had my baby my periods blessedly vanished (probably due to breastfeeding for 6 months). Got my first period 9 months postpartum - no PMS, no pain, just blood. Thought I was just lucky. Periods started up every 2-3 months, painless, just blood. I thought I was living the dream. Then I lost 30 pounds and now it seems like my hormones are sorting themselves out again. I am suffering from my monstrous PMS again and feel the volcanic buildup of menstrual cramps. It's normal to see a regularization of menstruation after losing weight, yes? Anyone here go from periods every 2-3 months to going back to a 28 day cycle? I guess this is kind of a back-handed NSV I'm not particularly excited about this one. My uterus is retiring from childbearing so if anyone can recommend BC methods that stop periods and don't cause a surge in appetite I'd appreciate it. I hate having my period!!!
  11. Now is a good time to measure all over body, record numbers, and have those available for NSV in future!

    Feeling defeated

Try to focus on NSV (non scale victories). That helps me when I'm in a stall, or I'm not losing as much as I think I should be. So for example... with my first surgery (I had the sleeve in May 2022) I lost 30 pounds in 30 days. It was insane. Then I hit the mother of all stalls. Each time I hit one, I would gain 3-5 pounds and sit there for WEEKS. I would come on here nearly in tears. Then I learned to look for things other than the numbers on a scale. I saw that I was off some of my meds. My clothes were starting to get a little looser. I dropped a ring size pretty quick. I was able to walk around more with less stops. As time went on and I was further out from my surgery, the weight loss slowed a lot. I was still losing, but at a much slower rate. But I paid attention to the NSVs and I was thrilled. I was able to work out longer, do more intense workouts, dropped another 2 sizes in clothes, ring and necklace sizes went way down, I could go up and down stairs, I was off all blood pressure, anti-inflammatory, and diabetes meds, I could sit in normal chairs with arms on them COMFORTABLY, I could cross my legs..... So many things to look at when the scale is being stubborn. I ended up having several complications from the sleeve around month 8 or so post op, and had to have a revision to bypass in June of this year. Right from the jump, the weight loss has been soooo slooooow. But my bmi and weight were a LOT lower than when I had my initial surgery (when I had the sleeve, I was 388 pounds, 5'6", bmi 63). When I had the revision, I was 275 with a bmi of 43). Also, weight loss is lower and slower with revisions. But I mostly wanted my life back because I couldn't do ANYTHING with the complications (I had 6 surgeries in 6 months). Now I'm back to working out BEAST MODE, I can live my life, properly stick to my diet, and watch my NSVs (the scale creeps along at a snail's pace, but I'm still seeing NSVs so I'm happy). Things will happen for you in the time, and in the way, they are supposed to. Just know that even when the scale isn't cooperating, other things in your body are. Just look for those, keep doing what you're doing, and you'll get there in the end.

    May Bandsters~October Chat

Drewslou, I'm so glad surgery went well! Now you get to know the joy of restriction. I had a strange NSV today......I went to go buy some dress shoes, we have a party to go to tomorrow and I need shoes. So I go to the size 9's, too big. I've worn size 9 for forever. Then I went to the 8 1/5's. Too Big!!!! So I went to the 8's.....well, still almost too big but ok. And I found some HEELS! And not just 2 inch heels, but FIVE inch heels. Wohoo! And I could actually walk around in them and not have my feet feel like they were trying to explode because of all the weight pushing down. Has anyone else noticed their feet shrinking? Strange.........

    August Exercise Challenge

Oh heck no! I couldn't do that, I'd starve. I just take a couple during the day to make sure I get enough protein. For the amount of exercise I do, my PA and I agreed that I can eat a little more than most bandsters. Plus, the nutritionist I dealt with pre band said due to my size and the amount of muscle I carried even be surgery, I needed more protein. Now, she did think I could get all of that with just diet alone, but I didn't think so. So, I "cheat" a little and use a Protein powder mixed w/water for my "snacks" instead of plain milk. Today's exercise: Upper body workout with 12 rep circuits. Damn near killed me.:smile2: Then, 65 minute on elliptical and 15 minute run on the treadmill. I had my 1 yr check up (actually 51 wks, but PA is on vacation next week) so I have to work the late day shift today. Figured I'd just do it all in one swoop. As mentioned, I had my early 1 yr checkup today and I've lost 103 lbs since the surgery date last Aug 28. I lost 23 lbs alone on the 10 day liquid pre op diet. So, I maintained a 2 lb/wk weight loss.:hurray: And that is with only losing about 5 lbs in the last 2 mos. I've been concentrating more on gaining muscle the last couple of months. And then, for an NSV, I had to take my new uniform shirts back in to Streichers to get them tailored. I actually had to get them "V"ed because they were too big in the abdomen area and just about right through the chest and lats/back.:cheers2:

    What Are Your Nsv Goals?

My NSV goals: To feel comfortable in my own body. To like the way I look in clothing. To be able to run around the soccer field with my son (who is very talented). To be able to buy normal/single digit clothing. To be able to wear sundresses To be able to wear tall socks without them looking like the threads are holding on for dear life. To be able to wear boots To be able to slide into a pair of LA Idol jeans and look amazing! To hear, "You look great, what have you been doing" To avoid all the complications that come with being overweight. To not look like a chunky in my drivers license photo

    My Life as a Bandster

I don't own a scale, and so the only times I have been weighed is when I have had my fills. Other than that I let my NSVs do the talking as to how much weight I've been losing. Of course the way I knew I was getting fatter and fatter was that I kept growing out of my clothes! Looking in a mirror was not nice, either.:think
  17. GeezerSue

This thread is going to be sooo inappropriate!

. THOSE are not the options. For many, many people, the options are being banded and remaining MO or having the DS and a normal BMI. . Not a healthy lifestyle change? Why is it that people who don't get how it all works proceed to tell us that is not healthy? Why is it that our doctors and our labs say we ARE healthy? What great secret do our detractors possess that hasn't been shared with the medical professionals who are dealing with us? Cantaloupe is not healthy for my sister because her tongue swells and she can't breathe. That doesn't mean *I* can't eat cantaloupe. Maybe steak and baked potato (with butter and sour cream, thank you) and veggies and a little candy (what I ate last night) makes you fat, but not me. Maybe it's unhealthy for YOU, but not for me or for other DSers. Lifestyle change like fitting in chairs and normal sized clothes and being able to buy a small RV with one tiny bed for my husband and me and we both fit in it? Lifestyle changes like the classes I just enrolled in because I can make the hike from the parking lot? Lifestyle changes like the clubs I just joined, knowing that I won't break the chairs? I should consider this unhealthy because I didn't diet and exercise and suffer to get there? I just can't hate me that much. If YOUR goal when having weight loss surgery was to have a procedure that would help you learn how to diet and how to call puking by cute names and how to change your original goals from losing weight to "NSV's," then the band was a very good choice. MY goal was to lose weight. I did. And I don't stink and some moron's saying I do is not only very insulting but demonstrative of the ignorance of some of the posters but it also has to potential to hurt some of your "friends" who are desperately seeking a way out of their nightmare. Way to go on support. Sue

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Another 2.7 miles tonight. I feel great. There were 3 of us walking, all banders...we agreed that walking with someone else is so much easier than alone and being able to talk about what is or is not working for us and sharing in the SV & NSV. We plan on heading out again Sunday morning. I haven't done any other types of exercise, but am happt with the walking. I have my exercise ball and will go an dbuy some resistance bands and gonna start working on my arms and mis section..... Want to look my best for my nephew's wedding 5/18. fist time i have seen family since late January...... The positive comments from my co-workers are a definite NSV. I guess the word got out while I was out of work for thoise 3 weeks. That is ok. because that also gives me extra incentive o be on task with my eating at work!!!!! Thinking positive +++++ each minute, each hour, each day is one more step to a healthier life.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

NSV = Non Scale Victory I'll have to be careful about the left over meat. So far I haven't had a problem or if I have it wasn't left over and because I ate too fast or too big of bite. I'd love to do a Hawaii cruise. We did them in opposite orders.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Denise - Since I live here I think why would anyone want to come here - it's just the stupid desert :blushing: but it is really pretty at times and the weather is great except in the summer - we have mountains - we are about 2 hrs from the beach - so it is a good place. I guess I just take it for granted:cool2: Congrats on the losing your pants  - that good !!! That's a great NSV... Now as for the the Baby Shower - Me personnaly I would have 1/2 to 1 piece of cake - That would be just too much for me not to eat it - well that being said - I did say no to all the xmas sweets at the office during christmas - - now I wouldn't bring it home or if the shower is at your house I would make them take it - cuz I would make a pig out of my if i was left alone with it - it would win -or - go in the trash... When is the baby due??

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Why can't you eat leftovers? I make extra all the time so I have some leftovers for lunch and also take those doggie bags home from restaurants that my doggies never get to see as they are another meal for me as well. I had a wonderful NSV today!! Before my Alaskan cruise in May my jeans were too tight and EGADS I had to go buy a new pair to take along in a size 26!!! That's the largest I ever bought. Well they were too big a while ago, then 24's, too big, then 22's too big today. I tried on some 20's I bought 2 years ago with tags still on in my closet because 'I was going to lose weight' AND THEY FIT!!!!!! Not even tight!!! I can't wait til Lane Bryant gets no more of my money!! A few more sizes!!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Hi All and thanks for all the welcomes and best wishes. Saw the Dr today and he was happy with my progress (10 lbs since op on 4/23rd and 25 total now). He has moved me to diet of mushies for next 2 weeks and then to soft foods the following 2 weeks. I'm so excited to have more options to eat. My first fill is not until May 30th. He said to start working out slowly and build up. I had broken my right foot on Feb 18th so I am still healing from that too and I didn't tell him about that because I didn't want that to affect my having surgery. I took off my boot from the Orthopedist and wore my tennis shoes, walking very delicately, when I went in to see him twice before surgery and told him I had a small turn of the ankle which was healing fast..... He did say, "Well you have to be mobile to be able to have the surgery" and I told him that I was up and about and on my eliptical so it didn't become an issue. I am up to 15 minutes on the eliptical as regular walking is still too slow and probably not helping much excercise wise and want to work that out to more but I can't do my health rider (which is like a rower) yet because that pulls on my abdominals. I did have questions on what is NSV and SV and PB? Gotta get up on my lapbandonics.... Its a happy day for me:thumbup:. Have a great weekend everyone. Yvonne

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Wow....as usual, I am in awe of how well everyone is doing. 100 pounds in 7 months???? Unbelievable. You are all so inspiring to me. I had two victories today: finally, after 2 weeks of not moving, that blankety-blank scale went down a pound! I stayed with the low carb program, charting everything I ate on myplate.com, and thank goodness, it is working again. Hope that continues. Also, and probably a silly NSV to many, I was able to eat romaine! Now, before this process, I was a salad lover and had prepared myself psychologically to give up salads. I was brave today and ordered a chicken caesar without dressing and croutons. I ate about 1/4 of it, after I chopped it up with a knife (kind of like a cobb salad can be) and took tiny bites. Nothing ever tasted as good as that romaine lettuce did today! I have the rest in the fridge for another time (or two or three), and I am a happy woman. Now to lose the rest.... Nancy

    September Bandsters

Lisa: You might have gotten bruised from the fill. I would give yourself a little TLC. Platueas suck! I didn't lose any weight for 3 weeks and was getting very discouraged. Hang in there. It will come off! I guess the exercise and protien will speed things along. Notice any NSV's? You're probably getting smaller, ie. in inches. Good luck!
