    Swing batter batter! SWING!

I am sure I do not stand alone when I say to you, we are here for you! It wasn't always this way, I didn't used to have a supportive husband. In fact I come from a 10 year marriage where support was the last thing I would expect. My oldest three children are from my first husband, he was a drunk and drug abuser. My oldest son, the one I speak of in this blog was my ex husbands biggest fan. How heart breaking when he found out the truth and still to this day finds out more and more. I am going to add you as a friend... there is much much more to my story that I haven't even gotten to touch yet in my blogs and I think... well I hope you may benefit from it. Please, any time you need someone to vent to, to listen to you, someone who wont judge, someone for support... call on me!
  2. I got through this stage with eating high protein foods like fish, and eggs. For me, going back to work and being busy and not home thinking about being hungry helped a lot. When I got home I would eat a small meal, go walking, bathe and then straight to bed and not have to think about being hungry. For me, it was all about getting into a routine. I was a lot like you. I wanted to cheat SO VERY BADLY but I got scared and never did. The pay off was a loss of 10 pounds the first week. Hang in there. Read a book, blog on this site, keep busy, busy, busy!!

    Protein????

My surgeon gave out a small handbook on post OP diet and most helpful thing in it was a recipe for high protein hot chocolate. Using protein powder make a smooth paste with cold water add chocolate packet and stur it into the paste, lastly add hot but not boiling water to the mix and viola! I was able to make mine 20 grams of protein in 10 oz. Also premier caramel shake added to decaffeinated coffee as creamer is luxurious...

Cant believe i just did this

Thank you for telling me that! My goal is a 14... Never wanted to shoot too small... Started in a 24. But now in an 18 less than three months out and I keep wanting to hope for a 10 but am almost scared to let myself! One goal I have is to put my wedding dress on and it fall to the ground. That would be so cool. I love hearing your inspiration words! It makes me hopeful and I can't wait to see what the future holds! Thank you
  7. Hi, I couldn't find a suitable place for my question, so I try here. How can I change from showing 10 replyes on a pages to 50, or whatever is max? I made it on my phone, men can not find a way to do it on my laptop.

    First Steps

Well, I have had lots to say since the day I started talking but never put it in writing before. This should be interesting. Too bad I have to type it all out -I'd rather just talk into the mic like I do with texts on my iPhone! Ok - 6 weeks out of surgery... Week 1, down 7 now THAT's what I'm talking about!! (290) Week 2, down 6 Oh I got this... so easy! (284) Week 3, down 6, More food choices and it's still dropping away. Finally under 283 - that hump from hell I couldn't pass on my own! (279) Week 4, down 2, Hmm, well ok, not great but still a loss. (277) Week 5, down NOTHING! OMG!! Nada, Nyet, Rien!!! how can this be? How can the famous 3-4 month honeymoon phase be over already? I knew this was too good to be true. I'll probably wake up tomorrow and have gained 30 pounds! WTH! Ok, now really bummed. Am I really sticking to the program or do I just think I am? Maybe it's a fluke. Bad scale at gym... It did just get fixed so maybe it's way off. Hope so. Week 6, down NOTHING! Ok now wait a darn minute. Depending on the scale, even gained 2! Although it seems like I'm taking in less than 800 calories a day, I think I need to be even more vigilant. Maybe it's what I'm eating. No more pudding and small pieces of bread. Maybe it's not about what I can tolerate as the doc says, but making better choices? In the first months you're supposed to lose almost no matter what you eat since you're eating so little. Maybe my body is used to the smaller amounts because of my pre-surgery diet and so there's not much impact. Ok, I'm not giving up, I'm getting tough (and mad) at this fat. IT IS GOING!! So for the last 10 days I have had virtually no simple carbs and no sweets. Nothing but protein shakes, cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese stick here and there, and mainly fish with a few veggies. Also did some research on the rules and why they are as such... seems I was taking a few for granted, like the "no drinking with or 30 mins after a meal". Now I realize it's to keep you full longer as well as not wash the nutrients away before they're digested. Good to know. Also, protein and heavier, thicker things stay in the stomach longer than say... all the soup I was eating, so those food should keep me full longer. I have noticed that I get hungry more often, obviously because my stomach empties more quickly. I like the protein shakes but I'm hungry not to long afterward. Hmmm. Need to get with Katie, the nutritionist to make sure I'm doing things right. Eating about 6 times a day but small and full of protein. With -315 or so from the gym, my calorie count is about 500-600 a day. So, why the hell am I not losing? Theories - Maybe my body is used to the smaller amounts because of my pre-surgery diet and so there's not much impact. My body is in shock form the quick 19 pounds loss and is hording the calories fearing starvation? According to Ruth you always gain a pound or two before you lose a big amount. Rather than steady decline, it's a step like scenario, and I'll catch up with a big loss soon? 800 is too low, shoot for higher or your body thinks it's starving. There are apparently many posts on this 4-6 week stall - happens to lots of people so I feel a little better about that. If I stay very much on track, then the laws of physics should apply soon. They have to. In the meantime, it is sure disheartening. I even cried. Feeling like the whole thing was pointless if I have to struggle so hard already. Really, it's the same damn policing work since now I'm going for 800 instead of 1,200. I was hoping that it would be simpler... not such a fight. I knew I'd have to eat well, but I thought I'd have no more hunger pains pulling at me. I thought the sleeve would make it easier to stay within the calorie count of 1,200. I chose 800 to speed things up and make the most out of the first year of tremendous weight loss, since I have so far to go. I wanted 20 in month 1 and 10 per month thereafter, hoping for a loss of 60 and a weight of 237 by the time we go skiing in December. Stay tuned. In the meantime, gotta stay devoted, focused, upbeat, and fierce.
  9. They had me do the scope about three weeks Pre-op, but they said that it only showed what was on the inside. The outside was where the scar tissue was. It was actually looped over and grown into other organs with scar tissue. I think me having it for almost 10 years and it being a smaller band both had a negative effect. I am glad they got it all done in one surgery. Some people have to do it in stages.

  11. So I’m scheduled to have my VSG on 8/27. Because I have a fatty liver, I started my pre-op liquid diet on 8/10. For the most part I have followed the diet pretty strict (mine is the true liquid diet) except I substitute an Oikos triple zero for a shake but am still getting 80 grams of protein and staying between 60-85 grams of protein a day and 650-800 calories. When I first looked into bariatric surgery back in January of 2020, my weight was 252 and I’m 5’ 8 1/2. Prior to the diet my weight was 236 (my insurance requires 6 months of nutritional visits and I did lose some weight). Now I’ve dieted off an on for over 15 years and can usually lose 20-30 lbs but it has never stayed off and I revert back to the 250 range which puts me at a BMI above 37. I have fatty liver & sleep apnea and when I made the decision to pursue bariatric surgery it was for my health. Here is my conundrum, in 11 days I have lost 10 pounds which to me is amazing so I’m now at 226lbs and a BMI around 34. Why am I now second guessing having surgery??? I know deep down the reason why I’m doing so well and sticking to the diet is because I’m terrified of having a fatty liver during surgery because of the complications (soft livers tear easily). Have any of you experienced this?

  13. I am also a slow looser and always have been. You have to remember someone who needs to lose 150 lbs is going to loose faster then someone who needs to lose 50 I have NASH which makes me loose very slowly but at least I am loosing and if it takes me 10 years at least I will be healthy. This isnt a quick fix and I hope you aren't thinking that It is a lifetime commitment. So just keep doing what you are doing...it will come off!

    Hello!

Ho my name is Evelyn and I had gastric bypass last year 2-12-13 my starting weight was 267 lbs and my current weight is 140 so I've lost a total of 127 lbs. Well let me tell you that it wasn't easy for me, I have been in and out of the hospital about a total of 15 times because of my diabetes went haywire, On Oct 8th 2013 my twin sister found me unconscious and so she tried to wake me and couldn't so she called 911 and then called my husband and sons. And I was taken to the nearest emergency room and the doctor had told me that I had to be revived cause my sugar went down to 10 but I didn't understand what he was telling me and again I lost consciousness well I was taken to the icu where they hooked me up to all the machines and the head of the icu until was telling me if I knew why I was there and I told him that I didn't and do he tried to explain as best as he could. But what he told me actually scared me to the point that I just started to cry, cause what he told me was that I had died twice and that if it weren't for my sister that went up to check up on me, I wouldn't be here today

This question is very broad and I bet if you asked 10 people, you'd get at least 11 answers. That said, my advice is to understand what you're about to do is not a diet. It's not something you do for a while and then stop. It's a lifestyle change. To be successful, understand - and welcome - that what you're doing is permanent. Good luck and be sure to check in here often. That's what makes this community so valuable.

For me? Follow the protocols. After they remove your stomach those first 3 months are first a healing nightmare and then quickly becomes so fun with losing so fast. Then our tummies really heal and people's bad habbits can come back. For me I avoid it by just focusing on my protein and water goals. But I do it by making really awesome, delicous dishes at home. I currently make (and these are all low carb, high protein meals): Chilli Tandoori chicken Butter chicken Chicken Teriyaki Maryland Crab Cakes I took the time to practice and try stuff out. If I didn't like something or it didn't go down well, I brought it into work and gave it away. I spent a good month sourcing recipes, trying them out and now I have delicious protein meals that are SOO much better than anything I'd buy on the fly. I don't even CRAVE the stuff I'm not suppose to have cause i"m just excited to eat the awesome gourmet food I made. That and walking 15 minutes at 10:00 and 3:00 as well as a half hour at lunch. Those are my absolutes. Doesn't matter where I am or what I'm doing, unless I'm on jury duty or something. I walk briskly at those time. Not a stroll, I'm out to MOVE. Finally, Stairs. I run up any flight of stairs I can. At work we have a flight of 16 steps. I do sets of UP & Down at least 3 times a day. Usually I come back from my brisk walks and end it with a set of 3 on the stairs. It doesn't really take that long. I invested the time on the front end for the recipes and now I have them down pat, can buy the ingredients with ease and throw together my meals for a whole week in a few hours. I make sure I walk 3 times a day and take advantage of the opportunities to move when they are presented. I've been fairly successful so far, I'm dropping inches consistently and then lbs are a little less predictable but our metabolism doesn't like to lose weight at this rate and will fight us from time to time. Overall this whole process is simple, but not easy. The way to make it easier on ourselves is to commit to the post surgical protocols. Good luck! I'll say this, the 1st 8 weeks were a nightmare for me, I had the VGS, Hiatal hernia repair and gallbladder removal. I hit a massive regret and depression wave around week 4 or 5. I cried my self-pitying eyes out and let myself feel all those emotions. Then I picked myself up again and haven't looked back. Nobody is gonna have a EASY time, but it will be faster and more fun if you follow the diet instructions and watch your body reveal itself to you. I am now happier than I have been in years but it wasn't a cakewalk getting here. So try to keep your head up, eyes on the prize and remember to allow yourself to feel all of your emotions and deal with the psychological stuff that comes up so you can enjoy this new life you are birthing for yourself.

I am however today a little discouraged. I was down a total of about 19-20 pounds and I came to work today ( I work at a hospital) and I weighed on the same scales and I am up about 2-3 pounds, or so it looked....any ideas?

    Goals NOT resolutions!

My goal for this year: 1. Make it to my goal weight before I turn 30 (which happens in Dec.). 2. Ride my bike to work (12 miles.) For this month, 1. Lose the 10 lbs. that separate me from One-derland. 2. Workout 3x a week I just went clothes shopping. I only bought three pairs of pants: Jeans, excercise sweats and work pants. I've gone down two sizes in the jeans from a 22 to an 18. The other two pairs are actually a 14/16 and a large. They're just pull-on types, slightly too tight. I bought them that way on purpose so I could have the fun of seeing them loosen up. For the first time in my many efforts to lose weight, I really believe that they will loosen up. That right there is a major victory.

Bring your sister to help you. It will be too hard on your wife to help you and keep up with a 2 & 6 year old. Trust me! It wore out my 19 year old daughter just helping me. You never know how you will be after surgery. Bring your extra help
  23. I am with you. Though I must confess, slipping into an 8/10 dress today felt pretty good. Still can't get small jeans on.

    Time to change

Ok I have always wanted a Blog but never had the time or anything worth writing about, I guess this is it! A Bit about me, I am 44, married to Tony with 1 son Josh who is 18. Untl recently my job was working as an Admin Supervisor on a remote Gold Mine here where I live in Western Australia. Tony also works on a remote Gold Mine, just not the same one as me! I will come back to work a bit later... I am from Wales (UK) originally and migrated to Perth in 2000 so my accent is still really strong! My family is still in Wales and I only have my sister and niece who migrated to Perth last year here. I lost my job in Jan after working at Davyhurst Gold Mine since Feb 08 (mine closed) decided to take the time to get the lap band done before I start to look for another job as I have been in this situation over the years and always put the op off when a job offer came up. Not this time! This time I will get the band done first, get better then look for a job. My health had deteriorated over the last 6 month and after finding out I have Haemachromatosis (hereditary blood disorder) and type 2 Diabetes I decided I had no choice but to proceed with the band if I wanted to keep living past 50! So, I made an appointment with a surgeon, checked our insurance and made the appointment for surgery. Imagine my surprise when he would fit me in as quickly as 10 days away on 23rd Feb 2009! There wasn't a lot of time to think about it and I knew I wasn't going to change my mind! There was no liquid diet that I have been told other people go on, I was told a light breakfast early morn of the surgery, before 7.30am and a big glass of water at 8.30am then nothing. I had an appointment to see the anethetist on 19th who asked lots of questions about how am I with anesthesia, etc and that was it! All I needed to do was wait for the op...
