    Food Before and After Photos

I have both the regular and pumpkin mini waffle makers. The pumpkin one is especially adorable. I got it for $10 with Amazon Prime. Just today I got a Dash mini griddle at Marshalls for $8. I don't like pancakes but I may try making "buns" with the chaffle recipe by blending it into a pancake batter consistency.

    August 2019 Check In

Gastric Sleeve 12th August, Dilation OGD 17th August, Emergency Bypass 20th August. 5 foot 10" HW 115 kg (253 lbs) SW 112 kg (246 lbs) CW 96kg (211 lbs) So far lost 19kg (41.8 lbs) So after 3 procedures and just over 2 weeks in hospital, I am still getting tired easily. But I go for a gentle walk every other day (around 5km a week = 3miles). I am starting to be able to do more around the house and my wounds all look good, especially considering they were re-opened! Bending is still uncomfortable on my tummy but much easier than before the op. What I do love is my clothes hanging off me LOL and I can get up the stairs without huffing and puffing OR having to use the handrail to help pull myself up Our stairs are very steep so it's a pretty big non-scale victory (NSV) for me Bit miffed that I have worked out I am definitely lactose intolerant now and in a big way. But had some great tips from some of these forums veterans. I am still on pureed food, not sure when I get to real food, but I'm not in a rush, pureed is better than liquids so I am happy to wait if I have to. Kudos to those of you that have gone back to work, I wouldn't have been able to yet if I did work! Everyone seems to be doing a great job
  10. Down 10 pounds as of today. It's been just over a month. I did an OMAD Monday then another OMAD yesterday. Today will be 18 hours, then tomorrow through Sunday 16:8. (I like to eat a little more freely on the weekend). I did find out that the little bit of creamer I was putting in my coffee raised my blood sugar like 15 points. So I tried some sugar free and measured a TBSP, that had no effect on my sugar. Most of the doctors I follow say anything less than 50 calories won't break your fast.

    18. I forgot to do my squats. I didn't do any major projects or anything but I did take the trash out which is on the weekly to do list. Hope that counts. 19. Making up for missed squats yesterday so 270 squats completed! Oy! I feel them most in my quads. I'll compliment the next person I see. LOL. Happy Thursday!
  13. When I got home from work yesterday i gave my vitamin another shot. This time I didn't have it on an empty stomach. I ate some sauteed chicken and waited about 10 minutes then took the vitamin. I'm happy to say I didn't not get nauseous or throw up! Progress

TOO MUCH PROTEIN = KIDNEY PROBLEMS???

We are well within safe ranges on a bariatric diet (exception may be if you already kidney issues) Consult your medical professionals on safe levels to consume. Most dietitians’ plans are 60 to 100grams of protein.. Our diet instructions give the mantra “protein first” in the first stages. It’s because your stomach has limited room. As your diet progresses you will easily hit your protein goal along with other foods to meet your nutritional needs. articles below give examples of safe ranges of protein. 80kg/ 176-pound person – 176 grams protein. 140lb person – 125 grams per day. Athletes – Higher protein intake https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16779921 https://www.health.harvard.edu/diet-and-weight-loss/when-it-comes-to-protein-how-much-is-too-much So, when it comes to protein, how much is too much? It's hard to provide a specific answer since so much is still uncertain and the experts themselves don't agree. However, for the average person (who is not an elite athlete or heavily involved in body building) it's probably best to avoid more than 2 gm/kg; that would be about 125 grams/day for a 140 pound person. New information could change our thinking about the maximum safe amount, but until we know more about the safety, risks and benefits of high protein diets, this seems like a reasonable recommendation. Abstract Considerable debate has taken place over the safety and validity of increased protein intakes for both weight control and muscle synthesis. The advice to consume diets high in protein by some health professionals, media and popular diet books is given despite a lack of scientific data on the safety of increasing protein consumption. The key issues are the rate at which the gastrointestinal tract can absorb amino acids from dietary proteins (1.3 to 10 g/h) and the liver's capacity to deaminate proteins and produce urea for excretion of excess nitrogen. The accepted level of protein requirement of 0.8g x kg(-1) x d(-1) is based on structural requirements and ignores the use of protein for energy metabolism. High protein diets on the other hand advocate excessive levels of protein intake on the order of 200 to 400 g/d, which can equate to levels of approximately 5 g x kg(-1) x d(-1), which may exceed the liver's capacity to convert excess nitrogen to urea. Dangers of excessive protein, defined as when protein constitutes > 35% of total energy intake, include hyperaminoacidemia, hyperammonemia, hyperinsulinemia nausea, diarrhea, and even death (the "rabbit starvation syndrome"). The three different measures of defining protein intake, which should be viewed together are: absolute intake (g/d), intake related to body weight (g x kg(-1) x d(-1)) and intake as a fraction of total energy (percent energy). A suggested maximum protein intake based on bodily needs, weight control evidence, and avoiding protein toxicity would be approximately of 25% of energy requirements at approximately 2 to 2.5 g x kg(-1) x d(-1), corresponding to 176 g protein per day for an 80 kg individual on a 12,000kJ/d diet. This is well below the theoretical maximum safe intake range for an 80 kg person (285 to 365 g/d). Dietary protein for athletes: from requirements to optimum adaptation. Phillips SM1, Van Loon LJ. Author information 1 Department of Kinesiology, Exercise Metabolism Research Group, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. phillis@mcmaster.ca Abstract Opinion on the role of protein in promoting athletic performance is divided along the lines of how much aerobic-based versus resistance-based activity the athlete undertakes. Athletes seeking to gain muscle mass and strength are likely to consume higher amounts of dietary protein than their endurance-trained counterparts. The main belief behind the large quantities of dietary protein consumption in resistance-trained athletes is that it is needed to generate more muscle protein. Athletes may require protein for more than just alleviation of the risk for deficiency, inherent in the dietary guidelines, but also to aid in an elevated level of functioning and possibly adaptation to the exercise stimulus. It does appear, however, that there is a good rationale for recommending to athletes protein intakes that are higher than the RDA. Our consensus opinion is that leucine, and possibly the other branched-chain amino acids, occupy a position of prominence in stimulating muscle protein synthesis; that protein intakes in the range of 1.3-1.8 g · kg(-1) · day(-1) consumed as 3-4 isonitrogenous meals will maximize muscle protein synthesis. These recommendations may also be dependent on training status: experienced athletes would require less, while more protein should be consumed during periods of high frequency/intensity training. Elevated protein consumption, as high as 1.8-2.0 g · kg(-1) · day(-1) depending on the caloric deficit, may be advantageous in preventing lean mass losses during periods of energy restriction to promote fat loss

    Tattoo Time

OK Guys, so i think this may have been done before, but i had a question. Has anyone gotten a tattoo after surgery? Either to memorialize the process, or simply because they feel comfortable with their new size and want to show off a little. I myself have over 10 different tattoos and I am currently in the process (2 sessions done) of doing a half sleeve because im pretty damn happy with my arms. If anyone wants to share, or even show pics of there tats (be respectful please, this is a public forum), lets see what you got. You show me yours and ill show you mine (HA!)

    Terrified I Won’t Lose Weight

I had my sleeve 7/8/19 I was 193 day of surgery. Today I am 170. My surgeon said I should lose 5 to 10 lbs a month and as I lose I would lose more slowly. He said for me not to be in a hurry as I have a year to take it off. I guess that’s the standard time people take off the most. I had a big stall and talked with my nutritionist and went back to 2 shakes a day and it is coming off again. When I said to the assistant I was afraid I wouldn’t lose any more she said it’s all numbers you will. So overall all I am down 33 since I started this journey. The best decision I ever made. I think you will be fine.

    The Maintenance Thread

not at all. Plus then you'd know how much of your "excess" weight is fat and how much is just loose skin. I had a ton of loose skin on my abdomen (I've since had it removed) and thought I had at least 10 more lbs to go to get rid of all that "fat". But it turned out it wasn't fat, since my fat composition was 22% - which is considered lean for women. So all that excess "fat" was actually loose skin.

    The Maintenance Thread

you may not need one, then. I got one when I got into the 140s because I wanted to know how much more weight I should aim to lose (my normal BMI range is 114-154). I figured I had another 10 lbs to go. Nope - at 146, I was already down to 22% body fat, so I..and the scan technician....and my PCP whom I shared the results with - all said it was time to stop. I was already AT my goal weight. It sounds like between having a scale that measures body composition (like you said, probably not super accurate, but at least in the ballpark), and being really in tune with your body due to lifting, you may not feel you need this information. In which case, save your money...

    Terrified I Won’t Lose Weight

I’m reading some reviews from gastric balloon patients on this site. See links below. https://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/1015-gastric-balloon-forum/ https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/letters-health-care-providers/update-potential-risks-liquid-filled-intragastric-balloons-letter-health-care-providers-0 Gastric balloon VS gastric sleeve. Balloon HOW MUCH CAN I EXPECT TO LOSE? https://www.obesitycoverage.com/before-and-after-your-gastric-balloon-complete-guide/ You can typically expect to lose between 20 and 50 pounds. The amount you lose depends on your starting weight and your ability to implement and maintain a new diet and exercise regimen. It is imperative to continue the new exercise regimen after the gastric balloon is removed, or you will regain the weight. Patients averaged about 10% weight loss from their starting weight during the FDA trials. However, many programs report that their patients are averaging between 15% and 20% total weight loss. Sleeve HOW MUCH WEIGHT WILL I LOSE? https://www.obesitycoverage.com/weight-loss-surgeries/gastric-sleeve/gastric-sleeves-how-much-weight-will-i-lose The amount of weight you will lose depends on a number of factors. These factors include, diet, exercise, lifestyle, and your overall commitment to changing old habits. The size that your surgeon makes your new sleeve can make a difference in overall weight loss. Let’s assume you do everything right. You’ve changed your diet and you’ve created new healthy habits. You exercise on a regular basis. On average people lose 60% (Stegemann, Obesity Action Coalition, 2012) of their excess weight with gastric sleeve surgery. This includes people who have followed their post operative guidelines and people who have not. If you follow the guidelines, change bad habits, replace them with new healthy habits, then you can expect to lose more than 60% of your excess weight.

    KOMBUCHA

You can let it go flat before drinking it if you can't tolerate the carbonation. Another alternative is to brew your own. It's fun, and allows you to completely control the amount of carbonation as well as the length of the ferment. A longer fermentation time increases the amount of pre- and probiotics, and decreases the amount of sugar leftover after fermentation. There are many online resources on how to make your own, and you can even buy a high-quality SCOBY on Amazon. It costs very little to get started, no more than $20-$25, and you can drink your first batch in 5-10 days. I brew my own, using fresh fruits and herbs as flavoring during the second ferment, and an 8oz serving costs just under 23 cents. Measured with a brix refractometer, it contains less than 1 carb (the SCOBY utilizes all of the sugar during longer ferments, but this also makes the drink more sour, which may be an acquired taste). I also make kombucha jello and gummies with agar agar powder, and add protein powder after the mixtures have cooled but before they start to set. Tasty, super healthy, protein-packed energy shots!
  22. So I’m going to have my gastric sleeve surgery on October 11, 2019. I’m currently weighing in at 190. I had the Oberea Gastric Ball, and only lost 15lbs. I’m terrified that I’m not going to lose anything like I did with the ball (15lbs after spending $10,000 is nothing....if I’m spending that kinda money it better be more than 15lbs!) I’m self paying for the sleeve and it’s much more than the ball was, and I don’t want to be in the same boat as before. I want to get to 130lbs. Has anyone been in my shoes? I know I’ll stall, I’m just deathly afraid I won’t lose more than 15lbs or worse gain it all back!! 🥺🥺🥺
  23. I had sleeve on 7/3/19. It’s 9/17/19. I feel like there is still a lot I can’t eat. Oatmeal and yogurt feel the best. You know that feeling when it kind of hurts when you eat something. For example tonight I made veggie crumble with taco seasoning (30% less sodium), cut tomatoes, cut avocado, and put mixture into lettuce. I have a slight feeling that I need to throw up. I only ate one leaf with the mixture. I get this feeling with a lot of foods. Can’t do any meats. (I was vegetarian for years). Even tofu gives me that grinding, painful feeling. I had hernia repair so that’s not it. It’s more of pain in stomach. Maybe too much food, maybe didn’t chew enough. Uggh. This is the only issue I have. I’ve been walking everyday. I’m down almost 60 lbs. Any thoughts???

I was looking at memories from 10 years ago of my daughter on Facebook just now. I can’t believe that I am the same person from the pictures. It’s amazing the difference 10 years has made. I’m 8 years out now. No more pictures that just make me feel bad about myself.
