Can you stall with not getting enough calories and protein??

I joind the site WWW.fitday.com So i could log all my food so i could find how just how much i am getting in, well after logging my foods for breakfast and lunch, protein did not add up to much and the calories for the two meals was only 455 calories. Thats probably why i have not lost much weight, i don't think i am eating enough. can anybody tell me, if that plays a big part in stalling, if your not eating enough calories?? I will continue to work on the calories and the protein and just see if it makes a difference, i will blog my results.

    Passed psyc eval!

Mine was with my therapist. She wanted to know what I'd done before to lose weight, why I chose surgery, what support system I have in place, how does my family feel about my surgery, what changes I'm willing to make long-term, how I will deal with changes/people as they occur post-op, what I've been doing to deal with emotional eating and food addiction (which I've been working with her on for a few months) and basically how invested I am to following through and following up. Not sure if that's the standard eval, but that's my experience. Took a little less than an hour. see above

    First appt Mnday

My first appointment was mostly just informational. What to expect, what my insurance requirements were, etc. Then I had my first weigh-in and met with my nutritionist to make a plan on how I could start changing my diet and losing weight before the band. I had my first appointment on 6/15 and am scheduled for surgery in 10/22. I tried really hard (80-90%) of the time to follow the nutritionists plan and have lost 30lbs so far. Now hopefully the band will help me with the last 90-100! Lol
  5. I'm 7 months out and just look ridiculous with the amount of hair I've lost, my hairdresser even suggested I get a pixie crop last week and this may well be my only option. As I have an appointment on Monday with my surgeon I'm holding on to see whether I am missing something from my diet that may help. I discovered through research that I was not getting enough protein in me I need 100 grams to help me lose weight I'd be lucky if I was getting 20 grams so I have added protein shakes and so far today I have managed to get 64 grams of protein in. I also take zinc and biotin to strengthen the hair when it does grow. I know nothing I've told you will help with your hair loss but your not alone if that is of any comfort.

    Mood Swings?

I read that weight loss releases a lot of estrogen in your system. Your body stores estrogen in fat, so if you lose fat, the estrogen gets released and messes with your body (your cycle, moods etc). That definitely explains at least part of the mood swings. The other part is that you probably did some self-medicating with food, and you can't do that post-op, so all that anxiety gets bottled up with no release. In any case, definitely get some help!! I'm working with a therapist for that very reason (and because I want to resolve some stuff I've never dealt with over the years). Hang in there and know we're supporting you online!

    6 month diet, gained weight

I have Kaiser and they make you have a goal weight. If I came in the day of surgery even 1 lb. over my goal weight, they would cancel my surgery! They're pretty harsh. A girl in my last preop class was crying because they cancelled her surgery for being over her goal weight. They'd still do the surgery, but after you are at or below your goal weight, no exceptions.

    Weightloss on pre-op diet

rememeber to not weigh yourself too much. Weight fluctuates Sooooo much. First losses are often water weight, but fat weight loss is coming fersure...
  9. I simply called my insuarance company (BCBS of Alabama) and asked if the lap band was covered under my policy and the response I got was no. I didn't ask why or anything else as my heart dropped into my stomach and I didn't know what else to say but "ok". Could she have taken the question in terms of it being an elective thing? In other words, if my Dr. submitted it them stating health reasons, might I then be approved? I have not spoken to my Dr. about this surgery yet, I figured checking with the insurance company first was the best way to start, but maybe not. I did read on the banstersinsurance yahoo group in the database that BCBS of Alabama covered this surgery 100%.. was this just one persons experience? I am not sure what that list is really saying. I know that when I was considering gastric bypass last year I read in the Insurance coverage that 1 weight loss surgery would be covered and do not recall reading any exceptions to that. I will need to go back and dig that book out again. Do you think I would have a better chance get apporved through my Dr? Or is no basically NO and I would have to go through an appeal? Medically I think I am a candidate for this surgery. My BMI is 51, high blood pressure, father had heart attack at 50, his father died of heart attack at 60, 2 uncles on my moms side have had heart attacks and her parents have both had numerious heart bypasses. My mom, grandmother and uncle also have diabetes. Any insight on this would be great. Thanks ETA: I see in my policy under exclusions that it does not cover services for obesity. BUT in the same paragraph is goes on to say, "This exclusion does not apply to surgery for morbid obesity if medically necessary and in compliance with guidelines of the Claims Administrator." So maybe I answered my own question. I am just not sure who/what the Claims Administrator is and what the guidelines are.

    Band sizes??

Sultana, Even though I don't want to be a smart ass so early in the morning, I'm going to warn about this anyway, even though I know you know. Jessie Ahroni, the noted band guru, says there are only three adjustments we need to worry about: too loose, too tight and just right. I know that a lot of people--usually Americans, we're famous for it--get hung up on the numbers. And I have observed, ususally among the newly banded, that people want "as much of a fill as" someone else has. But the number of cc's of saline we have is essentially irrelevant. What IS relevant to me is how much restriction I have. In my case, with a 9.75cm band, my ideal fill is around 1.4 to 1.6 cc's, right now, subject to change as my weight and fat and anatomy change. I think my band holds around 4.0 cc's, but all I need to focus on is the level of restriction I have. And, IMHO, whether a fill (or adjustment) is conservative or aggressive is not a function of how many cc's of saline we have, even if we have identical bands, but of how much restriction there is. In other words, your 2.0 would have me completely shut down. Given my anatomy and where my band is placed and all that, 2.0 would be so aggressive as to be malpractice! And yet, you may be underfilled. SOOOOO, it sounds to me as though your doctor was trying to give you a lot more restriction than you had as of the second adjustment. Now you may have to wait. Because I've learned that many people become more restricted a week later. (I don't get that, but it happens.)

    pre op

I am currently finishing up all the things my insurance is requiring me to do. I had to do six consecutive months of doctor visits for weight lost attempts, and Thursday well be my last one. Does anyone know how fast this process will move after that?

    Comfortable

One other bit of advice. Don't start a diet before you have your first appointment. Based on what I have learned here, depending on your insurance and your BMI, you may need a higher starting weight (just an observation).
  13. Hi All- My name is Brittany and I'm 25 years old. I'm currently trying to decide if Bariatric Surgery is the right route for me, given my circumstances. Basically, if I decide to go through with it all, I'd like to try to get the surgery done before I turn 26 in October. Until that point I'll have two insurances (through work and my dad-- thanks Obamacare!) and I figured that would be the cheapest way to get it done. I have my first Doctor's consultation in a couple of weeks and I've been researching the options. Right now, sleeve or bypass seem best for me, but I just don't know. I think once I meet my doctor he will be able to give me his professional opinion on the matter. I guess where I'm struggling right now is deciding if it's actually something I actually want to do. I've been overweight my entire life and have grown quite comfortable with my appearance. I'm very proportional for my size- and I've always thought of myself as attractive. I actually worry, very vainly, that I'll be less attractive if I lose weight. I'm dating someone who loves my curves and wouldn't change me for the world and I worry that if I lost weight he might look at me differently. (Although I think that's more of a personal concern, because I know he would support and encourage me if it meant I was being healthy). I have infertility issues and my doctors have told me repeatedly that losing weight will only increase my chances at getting pregnant. I also know that losing my excess fat will make me healthier in the long run. But I'm so comfortable the way I am now. Was anyone else afraid to take that leap?

    Getting my things in order

Well, I have my psych, diet & exerise appointments tomorrow and my ekg/heart thingie on Wedensday and then I should be able to submit to insurance. I'm very excited about all of it. Of course I get nervous about the stories that people haven not only not lost weight but have gained it back and then some. Which I just don't understand.:wink2: How can you gain weight when you can only eat 1/4 cup at a time? Makes me very nervous. I just suppose it's up to the individual but then that makes me worry even more! I've lost and gained HUNDREDS of lbs, why will this be differnt. When I ran my triathelon I was 213 lbs. and had lost 55 lbs. Well, I said I would NEVER gain that weight back. Never say never because here I am. In 5 years I haven't gained it all back but most of it and the very thought of RUNNING 3 miles on a treadmill is freaking me out. I did all of that while not working but now I work full-time with 3 kids [9/7/5] and there is no way I can spend 2 hrs at the gym everyday. Plus I hate to exercise!!! :crying: So, I think I'm with everyone else. I know this is the next step ... but will it work? I worked my ASS off to get from 268 down to 203 and could never break into the 100's. It got to the point that I was burning muscle for energy because I wasn't eating enough! Never say that to a fatty! Then I started to eat more and apparently have never stopped. Sigh. I'm lucky in the sense that my husband of 15 years is very supportive  and is always there for me but he's the go-along-with-the-flow kinda guy and he would NEVER say, hey toots put that twinkie down and go for a bike ride!! Sometimes he's to supportive!!!

3 days post op and gained weight?

I was told that this is common to gain weight after surgery. my wt before surgery on 7/26/17 was 247.9 and after was 251.8. Hang in there, we'll loss it all and than some.
  16. I went for my initial appointment today and I am scared and excited. I have battled my weight my whole life it seems, though I wish that my high school self had realized that I was beautiful and not fat. I was never skinny like a lot of girls are in high school, but looking back at pictures I was active and healthy. I have done Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig and lost weight, but I have trouble with sticking with it and have always gained at least part of it back. I am hoping that lap band will be the tool to help me follow through. The scary part for me is that I am doing this alone. My family is down in FL, and while they will be supportive, no one will be able to come up and help me. My mom is battling cancer and they have their hands full with that. So I am counting on my great friends to help me out when I need it. I am ready to change for good.

    Liquid Diet Woes

I wieghed 385 when I got there and they wanted me to get to 330 before the band. I dunno. They were pushing for me to get the bypass, maybe they thought if I couldn't get to 330 that I shouldn't have the band? And I guess it's just taken me forever to lose the weight. I was originally on a 2 shakes then salad/meat for dinner. I lost 15 pounds the first month, got to 330 by December. I could have had the surgery in January, but opted not to because I had a guest coming and I wanted to be able to go out with her, eat if I wanted, etc. ( I ended up getting my g/b taken out that month and was bed ridden during her stay anyway.) By that time February was booked and I really, really didn't to have the WLS right after the other one. During this whole time the Surgeon told me to stay on the diet and I did for the most part, but even so I had a couple days here and there off. I didn't go crazy with it, but it was still enough to maintain my weight rather than lose. Then I got my date. They went in and couldn't finish it. Said I needed to lose a few more pounds, so back I went on the diet. I'm kind of stuck at 312 at the moment. It's driving me nuts. Oh man, was that a long explantion. (Sorry)

    Liquid Diet Woes

Thanks Heather, I think I know all of this, but I stumble when it comes to social eating. I never realized how much food I am offered at work until I started all of this. I calculated it one day and think the if I ate "right" every where else, I'd still gain 10 pounds a year from eating everything offered. Yeah, a year from now, this will be an amusing story to tell other Bandsters. I'll do some Zen meditation and see if the future me will give me a pat on the head and tell me to quiet down. :biggrin2:

    I Lost My Daughter-In-Law

Its amazing to think that we used to carry around that much weight. My 7 year old weights about 50 pounds and I've lost about 53 pounds thus far, and when I had to carry her up the stairs to her bedroom, I about died. Then it dawned on me...no wonder I huffed and puffed up the stairs...I used to carry all that weight on my person! I'm so happy and proud for you!!!
  20. I am ready to pull my hair out. SW 266 i lost 16 lbs on pre op diet so before VSG I was 251. I am 16 days post op and I was down to 241 but I started puréed and now the scale will not move from 243.5, it has been five days and I’m going crazy. I thought two weeks post op that I would lose more weight than this. Is it normal to have a stall this early? Thanks
  21. Hi Everyone! I am almost 50 years old and I am considering LapBand. I went and had a consultation and they are check my insurance. My BMI is 31 so my chances are low. I have fought my weight for most of my adult life and part of my childhood. I did well from 7th grade to 12th grade. Not skinny but healthy. I did well in my late 20's but then in my 30's it has been a steady climb. I have tried all kinds of diets and I am looking for a better tool than counting points or drinking shakes for over a year etc etc. I weigh 198 pounds and I should weigh around 140lbs. What has your overall experience been with the band? Glad you did it? Would you do it again?

    What to Tell'em

Hello! Congrats on your decision! I was banded on 12/21/2010. The only person that knows about my surgery is my husband. I am close with my family but everyone is at their ideal weight and no one has struggled like me. They may have been supportive but I know they would say "it's the easy way out" (which this journey has not been easy at all). No one in my family even knows that I had surgery. The only thing I had to worry about was people at work. I told them I needed to have my gall bladder removed. My surgery date worked perfectly because I am a teacher. I missed 2 days of work abs then was able to recover over Christmas vacation. Since surgery I have lost 47 pounds. It comes off slowly for me and I exercise regularly. Since the weight is coming off slowly (verses gastric bypass) no one has any idea I had weightliss surgery. It's a personal choice but I am a private person and that is the decision I made. Good luck to you in your journey! It is worth it!
