  1. So, I am back yet again, I've been gone for a while. A little history about myself, I'm a nurse (yeah, I know), and I had lap band done in 2009 with removal in 2015, gastric sleeve in Sept 2015. I lost about 40 lbs with the band and gained it all back after 2 babies- no big issues with the band other than vomiting from stuck food. I decided to have the sleeve done last year and have only lost 50 lbs. My highest weight was 309 (pre-sleeve) and I currently weigh 259, my lowest was around 253, so I have started to gain some of my weight back. The sleeve was great, but just not for me. I was told by my MD to do the bypass after the lapband, but I was just too scared. So, after doing a little research on mini gastric bypass, I am thinking of having this surgery. My only setback is that I have to go to Mexico to have it....Yikes! I have researched different surgeons- Dr. Ortiz, Dr. Garcia, and dr. Ponce de leon. What are your experiences with this type of revision? What MD would you recommend? What are the conditions of the hotels that you stay in? How is the staff? English speaking? I do have a cardiac history of heart failure from previous pregnancy. So, I need someone who will give me the extra TLC that I need.

    Port placement???

I had to have a port revision in September 2009 due to my port being under my left breast, right on the bra line. It continued to become infected and once when I was getting a fill, my doctor withdrew pus and decided right then and there that I needed the revision. It is now 3 inches lower. I do hope though when I have my panniculectomy in Nov. 2010 that it can be moved even a little bit lower.
  3. After nearly 4 years of having my band, I was told by my surgeon that we need to take it out. I was told this just a week and a half ago, on the 9th. My removal, with possible sleeve revision will take place on the 4th. I spent the entire day yesterday at Kaiser. Blood work the day before, EKG, chest x-ray, meet w/my surgeon, 3 hour orientation class, etc. Today was admitted via hone and paid my co-pay for surgery. I only have the phone call with the pre-op medical history doc on Tuesday AM. I start my 2 week, 800cal/day, Protein only diet on Monday. I'm hardly eating at this point so not too worried about it. Only issue is right now it's junk that I'm eating, b/c it goes down and doesn't take it's time sitting in my throat. When I first posted in the introduction section, I was pretty angry. I went in to the band with high hopes, have worked to make it work for me and I expected it to be the tool that I needed to get the weight off and keep it off. I feel as if I've been sold a bill of goods. Still. But am sort of in a better place. I'm not keeping this surgery as much of a secret as I did with the band. Not that I'm telling everyone but I'm not NOT telling either. I've been pretty teary-eyed today. I think it's sinking in, maybe I'm even grieving for what I had hoped to be able to do with the band. I am honestly scared this time. Worried if I'll be okay. Heal well, etc. Anyway. Getting it done and I'll see what happens!
  4. 21 lbs the first month, I was a revision lap band to sleeve

    HUGE fight with the Hubster

Mickeymantle I'm not quite sure how you came to the conclusion from my minimal post that I am not ready for the sleeve. My band NEVER gave me restriction, had an Upper GI recently that validated the fact that there was no restriction even with a complete fill. There are health problems associated with my band, as I stated I have Lupus, which was diagnosed post-banding, Lupus is a contraindication for the band as there is a foreign substance in your body and Lupus is an auto-immune disease. So regardless of wether I'm sleeved or not, the band has to go. I'm assuming that you have suggested therapy to everyone on this board, as everyone that requires bariatric surgery has some type of food issue, otherwise bariatric surgery would not be necessary and 35% of the population of the United States would not be considered obese. I am ready for the revision, my husband is the one that has concerns. Not looking for judgement on my decision, looking for assistance in convincing a loved one.
  6. Just found out today after an UGI last Friday that I have a slip. After talking with my surgeon he will be adding plication to my revision and I'm wondering for those that have had the band without plication and then had a revision adding plication what their experience was. Did you notice a difference in how your band functioned? Did you tend to lose faster with the plication? Any and all experiences are appreciated.
  7. After a lot of complications, my doctor discovered that my band had slipped on July 31st. I had band revision surgery on August 2nd. I feel a lot better. I feel really tight and can't eat very much. I've lost a few pounds since the revision.
  8. My surgeon took out my gallbladder at the same time that he did the Lap-band revision to a sleeve. He said that I had an ancient, calcified stone the size of a jaw-breaker, and didn't want to take any chances with me having to have yet another abdominal surgery.
  9. I just had revision surgery on the 12th of this month. I'm so happy I had it, already down 20lbs. I was only on pain meds for 2 days and can tell you that I had more pain when I had my gallbladder removed. I wouldn't worry about the pain what you need to be concerned with is nausea however, the nursing staff does a fine job giving you everything necessary to combat this.
  10. In my experience the pain was worse with the revision. Doc chalked it up to having to go through scar tissue. Was on pain meds for three days, but it definately wasn't unbearable, just uncomfy. Nausea was my biggest problem. Good Luck!
  11. Hi, I'm having a revision from band to sleeve on may 1st and my doctor wants me to lose 55 pounds before my surgery by doing the optifast liquid diet. I'm terrified I'm not going to reach this goal in 2 weeks and I wanted to know how much people lost if they just did the liquid diet with no cheating. Thanks [emoji4][emoji120][emoji1373]

    Weight loss before surgery

I looking into getting a revision of my lap band and going to sleeve. Does anyone know if it was difficult to get insurance approval on this? Also, would be interested in hearing from someone who had this kind of thing done. Having the band and it not working for you.
  13. Weigh in today and I am down 8 lbs in my first week since revision surgery! Yay me! I never thought I'd be seeing 156 ever again on my scale but thats what it said! 16 lbs to goal and than maintenance....my band couldn't get me there but I just know my sleeve will! I feel great, moved to pureed today and I'll be on pureed for the next 3 weeks. I am getting about 48 oz of Water in not counting the other fluids in my Protein drinks, tea, etc. My doc says I am doing great. No pain at all and I am not hungry at all. I really thought that I would be one who still felt hunger but nothing. If this is a dream, I do not want to wake up!
  14. 13 weeks post sleeve to bypass and have been stalled with weight loss...haven't lost for three weeks. I can't find anything that addresses this type of stall, so here I am! I've lost 35 since revision and was hoping to lose a little more. Having my three-month check up on Tuesday...thanks!

    Acid reflux/heart burn

I had a very serious life long issue with bile and acid reflux. I was told by my GI dr that the sleeve was absolutely off limits for me and I had the bypass. I can honestly say that I have not had a single episode since surgery and went from taking 8 pills a day to control the GERD to ZERO pills the day after surgery. I do know people who have had mild reflux and had the sleeve with no issues but I know many more who have had no reflux and developed issues after the sleeve as well as people who had mild reflux that got significantly worse after the sleeve and ended up revising to bypass. My advice would be do as much research as possible and go with your gut instinct and surgeons suggestion.
  16. I had mine for 9 years and got the revision. I eat small amts without difficulty. Losing weight very slowly.
  17. I had mine for 10 years and got a Sleeve revision. So much better. Dr. Said it was tangled in scar tissue when he took it out. Best thing I ever did!!
  18. I am nervous because the insurance is questioning why I should have the revision when my band is intact and not eroded or slipped. If anyone has had good results getting insurance to cover in this situation please let me know what to say to them. The band totally failed for me. I am still hungry after I eat and weigh the same.
  19. How close where you to goal when you got your revision? :confused1:How many months did it take you to get to goal? :confused1:Any issues with maintaining? :scared0: I am so close to my revision! Complete unfill on Monday. Got my $ set aside. My passport card is in my wallet. Thank you all for the information and support thus far.:biggrin0: D.
  20. Thanks so much to all of you who responded. I heard this past Friday that the insurance approved and that I need only to visit the nutritionist before they send me to the surgeon to schedule the bypass. I'm amazed that they (the insurance or the weight mgmt clinic/hospital) didn't want me in a longer pre-op period. I assume because it's a revision...? Not sure how long it'll be between THIS coming Wed (when I see the nutritionist) and the surgery is scheduled, but I'm super excited!

Need Eating advice - Esp. from Plicationers

Do that, Wannalise, because she may not want to go so far as the staples, the stitching means that nothing is cut and taken out, it's only folded in on itself, reversible if need be, kind of like a french seam I would think. Dr. Cottam uses a stitching machine and the Mexico Dr. I had, didn't, he did it by hand. If she's a fresh stomach and not a revision like myself, she should have a very easy go of it. Being a flight attendant, I could have gone there late in the day, spent one night in our crew hotel, then would have done all my pre-op the day before then voila, the surgery done and all post would be covered as well. It's really $6375 but the pre op work up and hotel I factored in, to be safe.Often times Drs. and pilots, for that matter, have different personalities than those with more personable personalities, I am sooo fine with that, I'm not trying to court them I just want to come through the operation or the flight safe and sound, B

    Hunger

Hi there. I haven’t been on this forum for a while. Everything that you’re feeling is normal I’m right there with you. I had revision surgery six months ago due to severe Gerd and I can tell you that I am not hungry and I eat because I need to or I’m bored. I have a delayed sense of fullness but is nothing like the sleeve. My surgery was in May and it took months before I even felt that. I do have to be careful because once the fullness does hit is miserable. Even then it is nothing like the restriction that I felt from my sleeve. The valve is gone so it’s all about receptors at this point . Keep watching your portions you know what you need to consume get your protein and eat some veggies and drinking water . I was never hungry with my sleeve either. I hope that helped.

    Band 2 Sleeve Weight Loss

I guess I'm the exception, Was revised 5/9 and have lost 6 lbs and put 1.5 back on. At a loss as to what is causing it.
  24. I highly recommend Dr. David D Kim in Colleyville. He did my band to sleeve revision on 9/27 and I am doing great. He is EXTREMELY compassionate and understanding. His office staff have been nothing but great. Plus, he performs his surgeries at Forest Park Medical Center in Dallas. What a great hospital!!!! It was a great experience (hospital wise) and I would definitely go back there again if ever needed. Dr. Kim's website is www.drdkim.net. Check it out and give him a call. I don't think you will be disappointed....I am definitely not!!! Debra Band to Sleeve Revision 9/27/10 Dr. David D Kim
  25. I had my band for 4 years and while I didn't have complications, it sure didn't work. I went to a different surgeon and he wanted me to work with the band for a while because it wasn't anywhere near full. I asked that we please try to get insurance approval to revise and was initially denied. My surgeon and I decided to keep documenting my work with the band for at least a year. He said if we didn't give it at least a year then they would turn me down again. In that time I developed acid reflux and high blood pressure. The surgeon submitted the letter for approval and I got the approval two days later. It took a lot of time and patience but it finally paid off. I wish you the best in your journey from band to sleeve.
