    It's like voting.... It's personal!

@@Djmohr -- Re your post #5, not a quick fix for anyone. Think of the many newcomers whose posts clearly show that they expect surgery to be a magical cure up to and including elimination of the need to be alert forever after when maintaining. As a lapbander, I know that many BP members have revised from it to either sleeve or bypass. A while back I thought I might be a candidate, but so far, so good. The whole revision thing can be is confusing. About four years ago I met a woman who had bypass surgery and revised to band. I wish I could recall the reason she gave. It may be that another person here in BP revised to band, too. @@10stackzz, did you mean that, without vigilance, surgery may be a temp fix rather than a quick one? I was never clear on what "quick fix" means in any regard.
  2. @@danithomas One of the reasons for revision post sleeve is sometimes gerd gets very bad and RNY will cure it. When you suffer from gerd and it is at its worse, you have to do something to resolve it or it causes damage. Many doctors will recommend RNY, others leave it up to the patient and they choose the sleeve because they believe it to be less invasive. A lot of patients never had gerd and the sleeve because of its design will then cause it. Keep in mind that many are able to treat the gerd and the sleeve is just fine. The sleeve is a fantastic surgery and there are many people on this site alone that have been successful in losing just as much weight as the RNY. My gerd was so severe that RNY was definately the best option for me. Best of all, I am 2 years + post op and have not had a single episode of Gerd.
  3. I just read a response from someone on my thread who said that Bypass and Sleeve choices should be a personal choice and they really were right about that! Lol I just wish I had of seen that bit of advice when texting to my sister in-law who will be sleeved on 1/31 and she wanted to know why the Bypass for me since again "you're not that big" so I listed my reasons to the Bypass vs the sleeve for ME and she stopped texting. I'm not saying that the Sleeve is a bad choice but I know of a few people who have been sleeved and two years later they want a revision and they are trying to get approvals or they are trying to diet like they did post opp and losing the battle. I have heard from several people that they wish that they would of had the RNY over the Sleeve but I have never heard or seen anyone post about having the RNY and wishing that they had Sleeved instead... So my pre-opp appointment will be 1/16 and I will ask the surgeon about the mini RNY as well. I love this site. I haven't even been on Facebook as much!! Lol Thank you all for your comments and truths. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Late revision surgery question

  5. @@Tufflaw Perhaps pouch reset and if that doesn't work, a revision? there are therapists who specialize in binge eating disorder. I found an intensive outpatient program that included supportive eating (where you learn to recognize hunger and fullness cues), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (a behavior modification support), movement therapy, nutrition and other insight based therapies. I am going back after surgery and as often after that as needed. I know I will need the support. It's very hard to change something your body knows and you've been doing since childhood.

    Does anyone regret their surgery?

I regret my Lapband 100% because after a year it stoped working and now here I am six years later and i'm just a big as before. Time to revise, To what I have no clue. my advice: Look at your other options such as bypass or vsg(formerly called stomach stapling) This balloon thing that is a sham and only a temporary fix.

  9. Hi. I posted previously on this thread. I was up 6 lbs when I got home. I knew it was fluid so I wasn't overly upset. It took 3 weeks before the scale showed a loss. Hang in! I was a revision from band to bypass.
  10. Travelher

    Why did you choose GBP?

I went bypass as well, mine was revision from a band. I had bad reflux with the band, but my doctor prefered bypass as the tried and true surgery. so happy with my decision.

    Skin surgery/body lift?

@@Marissa.Ann.C Most insurances DO NOT cover plastics. Some will cover a pannilectomy if you have a lot of back up doctors appointments that show you have been dealing with infections. Other than that it is out of pocket. Prices vary by city. I live in Pewaukee, WI. So far I had a brachioplasty (arm lift) in July - outpatient so I went home a few hours after. the cost was 6500.00 and it included the compression garments and pretty much everything. I did spend a small fortune on ice packs both reusable and disposable. 2 weeks from yesterday I will be having a full abdominalplasty which includes muscle repair, a breast lift with augmentation - I have chosen to stay in the hospital for the first two nights since hubby works and I cannot be alone. The total cost was 17,200.00 and includes everything. In fact, she is also doing a small revision on my left arm near the elbow where I have a bit of a crease - we are going to try some more lipo of the elbow to see if that helps. I will say plastics is expensive and painful but so worth it. I have a lot of loose hanging skin that pulls on my back and I have back issues to begin with. I also get redness and rubbing that can be painful and could cause infection and had. My insurance covered none of it. I ended up taking a extra project to pay for most of my plastics so far and they do have financing options available at some plastic surgeons. It is best to do your homework and make sure you use a board certified plastic surgeon who has worked on people with massive weight loss. Good luck on your surgery! It really is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I am so glad I did it. I was one of those people that did not think all the extra skin would matter so much. For me, having bypass was about getting healthy. I had a lot of comorbitities, but the more weight I lost, the more confident I began to feel about myself to the point that I want my body to look pretty good again. When i was young (BK....before kids), I was one hot mama. The more weight I put on, the worse I felt about myself and began hiding my body. Now, I want to show it off! I am 53 and look pretty great and more importantly I feel fantastic! Best of luck to you! I hope all goes well and you are on your way to a whole new life.
  12. I had the vertical sleeve gastrectomy in August of 2015 and have lost 90 pounds, going from squeezing into a size 14 / XL to wearing a size 2/4 and S or XS. I surpassed my goal weight, and have had very minimal negative side effects. My endocrinologist had recommended the VSG to me because other women my age and size with PCOS have benefitted from it, and said that some had gone to Mexico because the costs were so high in Los Angeles (I was quoted $29,000 to $35K, vs $4200 for the same surgery a couple of hours drive away in Mexico). My BMI was under 35 so insurance would not pay for anything. I started researching surgeons in Tijuana and reading reviews from patients, and felt confident with Dr. Garcia. I wrote to several of his patients who'd posted about their experiences for more insight. I'm very pleased. Wow congrats! I'm researching at this point to get a revision. And I live in the inland empire.
  13. That's my thoughts and I didn't even come clt she to meeting their 50% loss for the revision criteria. I asked my surgeon for my feet to write a letter of medical necessity from his end so hopefully that'll kick it up. The letter from my PCP was very detailed and supportive so I really don't understand how I got denied based on her recommendation as well. I literally was up all night panicking and went to bed about 11am after talking to a few specialist offices and my Bariatric coordinator. Pathetically I cried for most of the 15min call but she said the review is scheduled for Wednesday. I saw a lot of people say that did it for them so I'm trying to remain hopeful. Thanks for chiming in and the support, I feel like I'm going crazy over here. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  14. Keep fighting. Your bmi alone should have you approved revision or not! Maybe escalate it to the medical director of the insurance company and hopefully they reconsider. Also try getting more than one letter of medical necessity like from your pcp and surgeon but I've read the peer reviews always succeed. Good luck to you !!!! foreverbariatric Sent from my GalaxyNote4 using the App
  15. I have but I have not "acted" on it, if you know what I am saying. Within the last two years, I had ALOT of emotional, unfortunate events happen and I am an emotional eater and also BIG time binge eater. I haven't pulled the trigger on the revision just yet. I got a script from my PCP for the GERD so we will see what happens. I am at a crossroads right now. I just may try the pouch reset, etc. I dont know.... Well, I wish you the best of luck! Re: the GERD, once I started taking Omeprazole it was like magic, all symptoms immediately stopped.

  19. Ah, makes sense then. I have GERD too, have you tried Prilosec? The generic form is Omeprazole, I've had a prescription for a few years so all I pay are co-pays. Re: The revision - have you looked into some type of support group or counseling to work on underlying issues? If you "went back to old habits" after the sleeve, the same might unfortunately happen after a revision. I know a few people personally who have had bypass surgery, lost a ton of weight, and put it all back on a few years later.
  20. I'm not familiar with the sleeve to bypass revision. Looking at your numbers on your profile you've been extremely successful with the sleeve, what is the benefit of a revision (NOT judging, just genuinely curious).

    Family and friend rejection

This is why I told no one prior to my sleeve surgery. Best thing i couldve done. After the surgery, I did tell some close friends when i went on a girls trip and boy did the judgements flow!! Now that I'm considering sleeve to bypass revision, i told my mom i was "considering" it and she called me a few days later and told me i was gonna die on the table, yada, yada, etc. Told my boyfriend i was "considering" the revision surgery, he flipped and went on a "join the gym" rant. So back to dont ask, dont tell for me. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

I just wanna wake up skinny!

I sent you a PM. Had the sleeve a little over 2 years ago. Fell back into old habits, now i can eat anything and everything just like before. You have to have discipline with either one. Im #refat as i call it. Lost 98, gained back 70+. (I was going through a divorce anf im an emotional eater.) Trying to see if i can get a revision to bypass. UGH...... Looking for buddy?

Hi! I'm from Edison, NJ. I'm having the band to sleeve revision with Dr. Abkin. I, too, would love a buddy to share this experience with. I say the more the merrier.
  24. On 01/02/13 I had the sleeve done and unfortunately it just didn't really take. Of the 365lbs I started at, my lowest weight was still in the 290's post op. Last June my mother died unexpectedly and young just like her father and brother (all cardiac traumas and it runs significantly on my fathers side too). It scared me into getting myself together and getting back on track, which I've been doing. While I lost only a fraction of weight the first time my quality of life and activities was and has been phenomenal but unfortunately I'm still borderline diabetic, I'm putting stress on my heart, my PCOS is out of wack with multiple cancer biopsies due to this, I started to have high blood pressure and the extra weight caused foot problems. I had two surgeries on my R foot in the last 6mons with little success and he feels my weight is a considerable part of this. I'm doing PT 3x's a week to regain mobility but that's significantly slowed me down. I work in the healthcare field and know the system pretty decently but today AmeriHealth denied my revision for full bypass. For my first surgery I had Horizon and AmeriHealth told me that as long as it wasn't through them because they're a "one and done" provider and I meet the medical criteria that wouldn't be an issue. I'm currently about 300-307 and my BMI is about 49 and I'm being denied. I'll attach the criteria they sent me again today but any tips on making this happen would be immensely appreciated. Quite frankly I'll die before 60 like my mother with all of my medical issues that could be alleviated and even eradicated with proper weight loss. I'm going to try and attach a screenshot that I was given by my insurance subsidiary in NJ and if someone can tell me how I don't qualify please go for it because I can't fight something I may be too close to see. I'm feeling really frustrated and defeated but I refuse to roll over. After some pushes with calls today I will have a peer review but they don't know when. Thanks for making it through my ramble. Pre-surgery jitters

I'm a band to sleeve revision also. My sleeve surgery was 12/27/2016. My surgeon does but do the revision in I've surgery. My band was removed in November. That was a glorious day. I hated that thing. I can't believe I waited 10 yrs to get it removed. So far very happy with the sleeve. The only bad note of this whole process is learning I am sensitive to aspartame. It gave me a migraine post op. Terrible. My way of dealing with nerves was to start doing everything I could pre op to prepare myself. I started the low carb, high Protein diet back in September. I started drinking 100 oz of Water a day. I started regular exercise. Then I cleaned and organized my house. No regrets at all. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
