So my doc clarified that when i can go on to pureed food...i cannot have starches...they want to maximize weight loss in the beginning...it seems that most other places do their stages differently...most of u have had mashed pot since the beginning it seems...i guess its good b.c i will shed some more weight...just trying to come up with other food ideas...my question is have any of you put tuna or chix salad in the blender? is that totally gross? Also, i do puree for a week, then the next week is a "transition" week where i still puree but add more texture..or fork mash things...after that stage i go to regular foods....i am scared that i will be starving b.c right now i feel hungry...and i know i can do nothing about it till my fill at my 6 week checkup...i feel like i will be one of those who lap band doesnt help...im paranoid...i feel like i couldnt possibly be NOT hungry, if that makes any sense...since i feel it now...please tell me that i will have the will to control my hunger b4 my fill, and tell me that my fill will restrict?!?!

Just a small scale victory, but somehow, while on vacation in Hawaii, I lost almost 7 lbs! Plus, I finally broke the 240 lb barrier, weighing in at 239.7 lbs! I felt like I ate a lot of junk food, but the truth is I wasn't eating much at all (too busy having fun to eat!) and most of it was Protein. That plus snorkeling and having fun in the sun all day means weight loss galore. So, thank you, sleeve, for making my vacation a weight loss success along with a vacation success! Now if I could just kick this stupid cold I picked up on the plane ride back (*grumble grumble kids who don't cover their mouths when they cough grumble*)

When did your suregeon Allow you to start swallowing pills again?

I was sent home with pain pills and took my regular pills (capsules). Three months is MORE than enough time. Talk to your doctor. Congrats on an awesome weight loss! -
Hot Sauce Ingredient Reduces 'beer Belly' Fat As A Weight-Loss Surgery Alternative
ouroborous replied to ouroborous's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
OK, let me reiterate: this study isn't about eating capsaicin. It's about a surgery that uses capsaicin to partially or completely deaden the vagus nerve. The headline is a little misleading, true, but I think folks are missing the point -- it may be possible to gain significant weight-loss benefits just from altering the vagus nerve. -

Week 7 of liquids -- gimme food already!
Cindy C replied to JustWatchMe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
When I had my surgery (6 years ago) I was on liquids for 8 weeks. It was brutal but I got through it. Keep following your doctor's orders. Whether you agree or disagree, he knows what he's talking about. Sometimes I thought my doctor was nuts but I did what he said anyway. I lost 115 pounds the first year and another 35 the second year. I've maintained my weight loss for 4 years now and counting. I won't be going back to my former self. Keep up the good work. You're doing great! Cindy -
Insurance questions
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to manda101's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Edit to add: Lets double check this. Is your health insurance medi-cal (provided by state) or a selfpay/employer provided insurance? I asked because I have medi-cal and they did approve my surgery. Have you already done the 6 months of dr supervised weight loss? Get letters from your pcp talking about how your current medical issues are related to your health, a letter from your ortho about your joints (especially if he can say that you will need joint replacements). Write a letter about yourself. How your weight effects your life, a break down of your past attempts at dieting and the results, family histories of weight related or weight aggrivated diseases. I was denied several times and those letters where what got me approved. HW 385 SW 359 CW 335 (50lbs down!) Sleeved 10/5/16 -
Could I please get some feedback on hair loss post op? When did the hair loss start? How much hair was lost? Did you have a lot of hair before the surgery? Did you have to cover the hair loss through wigs, hair pieces, etc. How long did it take for your hair to grow back? Did it grow back as thick as it was before? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Weight Loss Surgery May Reverse Signs Of Aging

That's great. I do notice so many people look younger in their after pictures. I have looked and looked trying to figure it out. It isn't just the clothes, the make up and hair. They just seem to glow more! -

Slow losing makes me a sore loser

Goodness, talk about a case of emotional sabotage. I'm so sorry you had to experience that. However, from the brief description you provided of Mom, I get the feeling she's a bit weight obsessed and probably feels pretty threatened by your weight-loss. I'm thinking she was feeling a bit intimidated and that is how it came out. People who feel threatened need to put a dent in your armor, so she zeroed in on a weak area for you- fear that you aren't succeeding. But, I don't know her- just a guess. As I read your post, like the others, I noticed that you are at 33% of your excess weight lost without even being two months. That is a reason to dance on tabletops, not vent! To put it into perspective, I had lost about 38 pounds when I was at the same point as you, but that was only 27% of my excess weight. You are winning! You are a winner. Smile about that. -
Same here. I've been going out to dinner alot this week and will do so for the next several days. I look forward to it because the band (as long as I listen to it) helps me to taste and enjoy without eating to excess. I don't miss the overeating...I focus on enjoying what I do eat and enjoying the much slimmer version of myself. I don't find it that challenging at all. In fact, I've had a blast this week so far and expect to continue it...there's nothing to fear as long as you approach it correctly. So far I've had Turkish last Sunday, Greek last night, Indian tonight, and will enjoy Japanese on Thursday night and Italian on Friday night. I don't expect a loss this week, but I don't expect a gain either. This I can live with..and hope to for years to come.

I remember Bob Greene talking about plateauing. He said right before a big weight loss sometimes the body holds on to water. In his next breath he said if that doesn't happen, then the exercise may need to be ramped up. -

You have no restriction yet! My doctor told me not to expect any weight loss until I get restriction from the band. Once you hit your "green zone" the weight will come off! Don't worry and be patient. It's gonna happen! :-)

It is great to hear everyones stories! I am 39, will be 40 in June. I never consider WLS until my employer sent out an email saying it was now covered in our plan! I made my first appointment Nov 1, 2011 and weight in at 307! I am 6'0 tall and in high school I was 180. I have to have 6 months of supervised weight loss which I started the second week of December. I am now down to 278! I probably won't be able to have surgery until June (my big 40th birthday present to myself!) I am so excited and feeling so much better already! Friends tell me " your doing so good you may not even surgery!" I still do because I know my track record and it is too easy to put the weight back on!! I just hope that I can convince my husband to follow!

Surgeon Questions - The Ever Growing Request
Failure posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay so I've done about 3 major searches through the forums for posts related to questions you should ask your surgeon. There is no 1 direct place where this is located and I was wondering 2 things. First off, is there anyone that could maybe make a pinned thread of a list of questions that might be good to ask your surgeon that people can add to like some of the other things that are pinned? It seems to be a really popular request. Secondly, I'm going to write out the questions I have written down to ask. These are all ones I've either thought of or found here on the forums to be really important. Can you guys think of anything else I am missing?? *Feel free to copy and paste these into a word program and print them for yourself!* - Can you take a picture of my stomach that you take out? - Do you utilize catheters? - What bougie size do you use? - How many sleeve surgeries have you done on people with a BMI similar to mine? What types of results to they see? - Do many of your patients lose 50% of their weight or more? - What are the biggest reasons you see your patients "fail" at long-term weight loss? - How many years out is your first patient, and what have their results been? (side note for you guys, this will also give you an idea how long your surgeon has been doing weight loss surgeries) - Will I have a drain? - Will there be any post-op medications I need to take, what ones? - How many incisions will there be? - Is a sedative something I can request or is it automatically given? - What can I expect to feel like upon waking up from the surgery? - Are there any "leak" tests performed? - How are the incisions going to be closed? And that concludes my list. Do you know of anything else I should maybe ask my surgeon in consultation? -
Always two bites away from 300 plus PBS
Lots Of Hope posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, I have always been hungry and like food and wine. I kept it off with phen, exersize and starving myself. Gold member at all weight loss centers! I was never at my ideal weight, but never obese. However, I am always one more bite to a million pounds. Weight always came back. Always dieted like all california girls. Then, reached 35 and three kids and it is an impossible struggle. My sleeve is next week with Dr. Braverman. I like him and trust him. I am at my highest wt still after a year and can't get it off.(200 and 5'4) My insurance will not pay because I have not been officially obese for two years. My husband and I took out a loan because it is so important to me. I decided not to wait for comorbidities or other complications of obesity. My mom, dad , brother, etc.. Are all morbidly obese. I am tired of avoiding thin people because of my insecurities. I want to go places with my husband and kids and focus on us, not my insecurities. I hope this will help me. I just don't want to be always hungry and feeling like a failure. This is why I choose the sleeve. I can use the support from this site. My friends do not agree, and one has even stopes talking to me because she was my dieting partner. Thanks for reading! -
I am considering gastric bypass. One concern is that I'm very likely to overeat when the wrong foods are in the house. Have regained 90 pounds lost through diet since my remarriage a few years ago. My husband is.supportive, naturally slim, but loves to have goodies and starches available. How do some of you.manage to eat so differently without frustration, conflict, or failure to lose and maintain that loss? This scares me...meals have been my responsibility since he works full time. Thanks for any advice on this!

Is my journey over?
SouthernSleever replied to Rootman's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You are probably retaining fluids to cushion your injuries. Whenever your body swells it is putting padding on that area and also your body slows down on weight loss, lowering your metabolism incase you aren't able to access food while you recover. No worries, you will back to be being a loser soon!
