    I messed up bad

What matters most is what you do next. If you continue eating junk food, you won't lose as much as you could and you won't keep off what you do lose. You've already gone through surgery, are you going to waste it? These next few months could be a period of easy weight loss but you have to do your part.

    Clothes etc

I have huge bins up in my attic ranging in sizes 2XL, 18/20 (my biggest size) to size Large. I am currently wearing medium. I was glad I saved all my clothes over the years. I was up & down in weight. I was so happy when I went thru the bins to find bras that were able to get me from there to about a month ago. I did however, skip a size on this weight loss journey. I recently tried on some shirts that I bought in a size Large and they are already to big. I am pissed because I never even got to wear them, and they were brand new. Oh well...in the bins they go.

Nurse Navigator NOT Helpful Thus Far

The entire process of WLS is filled with frustrations and setbacks- I’m sorry to say this is not likely to be the last situation that’s going to go like this. I’d recommend emailing the coordinator at the surgeons and telling her that insurance company indicated that they have information related to prior authorization requirements and you’d like to know what those are. They can’t submit for prior authorization until after all the requirements are met. I can tell you with my knowledge of insurance I’d plan on your cost being the out of pocket max plus deductible. I rarely see surgery any less than that. On the subject of being ready to give up because of the insurance/office back and forth, I’d really recommend considering if this is the right time of your life to move forward with this surgery. You’re going to need a lot of patience and perseverance to be successful with this whole process, from insurance requirements to getting ready for surgery, to surgery, recovery, weight loss phase, and maintenance. Make sure you’re in the right mindset because in the end it’s your own determination and attitude that will be needed for this to be a successful process.

    Tummy Tuck

I had a tummy tuck with muscle repair at 17 months after my VSG. I hit my weight goal just about a month prior to PS. I also had a breast lift & augmentation and an arm lift. My reward after all the hard work of weight loss!

    Testerone Replacement Therapy

I had low t before surgery and have been using t-gel for atleast a year. I can't say it made any significant difference before the surgery because I didn't really exercise much. I did go to a wellness resort a few months before surgery and worked out 3-4 classes a day and my muscle tone came back nicely after that three week stay. Just finishing my second week post op and have not had followup labs yet but I will post back after. So I think T-gel will only help with weight loss if you exercise and more like strength training not running endless miles. More muscle mass burns more calories and low T allows you to hold fat and slow metabolism in males as I understand it.
  6. I felt the same way. I just had this nagging feeling that something would go wrong and I wouldn't be able to get it. Even on my surgery day, I was sure something would fall through. I didn't believe it would happen until I was post-op! I'm one week out now. Im so used to failing at weight loss, isn't it crazy? I also only told 2 people, my fiance and another friend who is thinking about the process herself. I've known other people in my family or circle of friends who have done it and suddenly they become the person who had weight loss surgery. It somehow always comes up. Years later. Its not in a negative way but still. I don't want that to be an identifier when people talk about me. I also think people tend to trivialize your journey. They think, ohhh THATS why they lost the weight. As if you went to surgery and ta-da you are now skinny.
  7. I'm just getting started in my journey (still waiting on paperwork, have to do the classes, etc) but I too agreed not to tell anyone. Only my husband knows. I really just want to wait until I actually get all the work done, am approved and the surgery is complete. I feel like I don't want to go ahead and tell people what I'm doing then something happens that I can't get it done and then I have to explain that. Ya know? Either way, I don't think anyone in my life would talk bad about me or the surgery because they know how hard I have struggled all my life. Lots of them have gone on the journey of weight loss and better eating with me and experienced weight loss while I remained stagnant. So I think they would be supportive. But yeah, just wanna wait until it's all said and done and then I will tell people.
  8. Ive got 5.5ml in my lap band & ive stopped loosing weight over last year and half & even gained a bit. Cant see surgeon to get a fill because of covid, eating one meal a day just now & just small biscuits through day, its tough and my eating habits have changed
  9. That’s amazing! Congratulations on your weight loss as well ! ‘Disbelief’ is an excellent way to describe the feeling. Hopefully my brain will catch up, but I’m not too terribly concerned. I’m also not very focused on the number on the scale. I have a vague idea that a pant size of 6 or 8 would be great, but even that isn’t a hard goal. It’s mostly this feeling that I’m not done yet with the weight loss. Not having an absolute number in mind feels more low pressure and it’s working for me. I need to check out Pinterest for recipes. I have so much time at home, and I am getting a little tired with my monotonous diet. 😂

Keeping surgery a secret? What did you tell others?

I only told my husband, and parents. When others started noticing my weight loss, they never asked me if I had the surgery. I just accepted the compliments, and never told them. I think everyone just thinks I was dieting? It is no ones business how, or why we do it. If anyone asks me specifically, I am not sure what I would say.
  11. I am 3.5 weeks out from a band to sleeve revision, and things have been going pretty typically up until now. I had GERD prior to this surgery, a fact I made abundantly clear to my surgeon, but at no time was I apprised that the sleeve would make it worse. And by worse, I mean that I cannot eat much of anything without it causing vomiting, and when my stomach is empty, it burns severely. I’m afraid I’ll be forced to eat Cream of Chicken soup for the rest of my life, because it’s all I can tolerate. The vitamins, proteins...everything that’s supposed to help with energy, is intolerable. I’m miserable, because I’m in agony, so not only does it seem that I have changed my entire lifestyle, but now I’m sick and have no energy all the time. There is no joy at all in the weight loss. I take 2 Prilosecs per day, and a handful of Tums, but there’s no relief. When I call the nurse at my surgeon’s office, it takes a day for her to get back to me, with no helpful suggestions. I am miserable and almost dysfunctional. Has anyone else had this dyspepsia this severe? What did you do?
  12. It'a amazing how often I agree with Catwoman. My story is similar. I also told only immediate family and close friends. (One family member and one close friend were extremely critical when I told them of my surgery plans.) I took annual leave for the surgery. When the weight loss started becoming obvious, I said that I was doing a medically-supervised weight loss program through a local hospital, which was technically true. However, when seriously obese people asked me about it, I confided in them about the surgery in hopes they might be inspired to look into it themselves. In one case, a woman did subsequently get the surgery and has done very well, so I'm glad I told her about it. At this point (two years out), I've been at a normal weight for quite a while, so nobody asks about it any longer (or in many cases didn't know me when I was obese).
  13. I only told my immediate family and close friends. I had my surgery in June 2015 (I told people I was on a "staycation" to work on some house projects). People didn't start noticing my weight loss until October, and I told them I was working with a dietitian (doing low carb) and exercising like a fiend. Skinny people believe that schlock. Plus it'd been four months since my "staycation", so I doubt anyone linked it back. Later on I was more upfront with other obese people (although luckily, I didn't have to deal with this at work - there were no other obese people there) - but I did have some obese acquaintances from other places who were curious. I did tell most of them because I knew they'd never believe the diet & exercise story - but most skinny people do.
  14. I haven’t had surgery yet but I’ve heard on here, other sites, and from my surgeon that hair loss from surgery is usually temporary and it comes back around 12-18 months after surgery when your metabolism stabilizes. It’s different for everyone but you might not even need the transplant! Either way I’d wait at least a year. Good luck!
  15. I’m getting a sleeve and haven’t had surgery yet but when I put in for leave at work I told my boss and coworkers that I was having part of my stomach removed due to ulcers (not entirely a lie, I do need it for that reason as well). I joked about how “at least I’ll lose weight as a side effect” and everyone was supportive and called me “lucky” to be losing weight as a side effect of a “legitimate medical procedure”. And then they all trash talked getting a bariatric procedure solely for weight loss 🙄. If you don’t feel comfortable sharing with anyone you certainly don’t have to, but if you want to maybe stretching the truth a bit will help it be easier to swallow for others. It’s so sad that weight loss procedures are shamed. We’re looked down on for being fat and then looked down on for doing the things we have to do to lose weight. It’s not fair

Onederland! And a general question :)

I think its super reasonable to expect the weightloss you experience per month to start off large then taper down as you get closer to your lowest weight. But 8-10lbs *every* month might be rare although it can happen. You may even experience erratic patterns that don’t look like a steady slope down but like steps (stalls or plateaus, but not everyone does) I have seen people make calendars that show their losses : I hope the visual helps & congrats on Onederland ❤️

    October 2020 check in

Hello all! Just wanting to check in with all of my October 2020 folks to see how everyone is doing. I just started my regular foods phase at the beginning of February and can tolerate pretty much anything. My biggest struggle right now is feeling hungry all of the time. It’s something that I’ve unfortunately had a hard time with since about 1month out. As far as weight loss goes, I seem to lose slowly and in waves. Lose, stall, lose, stall, rinse and repeat. I have to say that even though this journey has been hard work, I’m feeling good, down 4 sizes, increased mobility, and increased energy! Here are my numbers: Age: 48 HW-299 (April, 2020) SW-269 (October 28th,2020) CW-220
  18. You’ll likely start noticing hair loss at about 3 months post surgery & it will continue for 3-4 months but some have different experiences. For me it slowed once I hit maintenance & I was consuming more. I lost about 40% of my hair - thank goodness I had a lot to begin. Not sure if men have a different experience but I wouldn’t imagine they would. Honestly, I’d wait on the hair transplant. Your body is undergoing a lot of stress & change which is why your hair sheds at a faster rate during your weight loss. My surgeon told me my body had better things to do with what I was consuming than grow hair while I was losing. It’s something to consider. Speak with your bariatric medical team & your transplant team & see what they recommend.

    Feeling bloated

It will be ok. Some days will be harder than others but these will become fewer over time. And you’ll learn how your new tummy reacts to what you eat or drink. Your tummy can be pretty contrary the first couple of months but it will settle - it’s going though a lot with the surgery & changes to your diet. And so are you. Your bloat may still be from surgery. Try a little lemon juice in your water to help flush your system. Also the surgery & weight loss screws with your hormone levels so the bloat could be from early & amped up pmt. Don’t forget your protein drinks, broths etc. all count to your fluid intake goal. Just go slowly. Sip. Try a herbal or green tea for something different. You’ll get through this.
  20. The supplements won’t stop the hair loss because it’s your natural hair loss cycle accelerated because of the surgery & reduced diet. The hair on your head is already dead & there isn’t anything that can save that. New hair is growing but at its normal rate. It all comes back just give it time. I think the thing about gummies are the calories & sugar. Check the sugar content (it’s how they make them gummies) & calories of those you take. I checked some out out of curiosity & to take the recommended dose was 90 calories a day just for one vitamin. I haven’t taken any multivitamins since January last year. Still have labs every three months & my levels have been very good every time.
  21. Hi @KellyMarie8288...congrats on the milestone!! Yay you! We have very similar starting stats, I'm 5'2", starting weight 235, (but am a good10 years older than you). We would be considered "low-weights" and cannot reasonably expect the same weight loss rates achieved by those heavier and taller in the first few months, or in the months following the initial drop. With that said, not counting the first two months post-op, when I had a higher than normal pound droppage for ME (compared to later months), I lost anywhere between 10 and 13 lbs a month until I reached goal by 7 months. I need to note though that I was doing pretty low calories throughout weight loss phase, as well as progressively more intense regular exercise.
  22. Started shedding around 3 months...kept going until about month 6-7. Its all back now (plus some, I think/hope lol), and the same length as the rest of the hair that stuck around. On another note, i too had very dry, cracked heel skin pre-surgery. Today they are lovely smooth and actually soft. Not sure if this is due to weight loss, or the fact that i wear socks all day long, all year long, because my feet are always cold. Lol.
  23. I had this scheduled intiatially at Natural Hair Transplants in Ft Lauderdale 2 months after sleeve surgery. I only need in my front area as I have good full hair on 80% of my head. The transplnted follicles fall out after a few weeks but start growing in at 3-4 months. The results are amazing at 9-12 months. I want to wait long enough that the hair surgery was is is not an issue due to dificiencies. My original date got postponed because of rise in Covid on 12/16 and hair surgery wa s scheduled for 2/16/21. I believe I will schedule 3-4 months out. How long did you guys have problems with your hair after surgery?
  24. I am going to at least take biotin, finsteride ( both tiny pills) and collagegen in powder form if the doc says it is ok. My heals have cracked for years and since taking collagen they are as smooth as they were when I was a kid. It does wonders for your skin in particular. The biotin and finisteride are so tiny I can't imagine I would have to stop tking those. My own dermatologist even tkes those for his hair.
  25. I am almost three months out and have had my shares of stalls BUT I have kept up the the loss average through all three months so far. I am at close to a 60 pound loss as of this morning, and currently in a bit of a stall but that is how it has been for the last couple weeks. The scale doesn't budge for a few days and then it will slowly creep up a few ounces and then one day it will be down a couple of pounds......strange but its working! I am praying that if I stay the course it will continue on as well.......I will be following this thread to see if some of the veterans can shed more long term light.
