  1. I'm feeling really frustrated and down. I had surgery 9/29 was 251. So 11 days ago. I am only down to 242. And no movement on the scale in the last 4 days. I don't get it. I'm getting in all my Protein and fluids. I drink 2 Protein shakes, half a yogurt, and a cup of broth a day. I'm up and moving around. How am I not losing? I am a slow loser when dieting and I'm scared it's going to be the same with the sleeve. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    OCTOBER GBs where are you?!?!

I so appreciate advice like this! How is your pain level? Are you able to do basic household things? I hope you're doing well!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App @@momto3E I am able to move around more and the only pain I have here and there are gas pains. But I can barely get in one Protein Drink a day.. So I will have to switch to some kind of tasteless powder to get it in. I'm still a little sore but no where near the first couple of days. The walking helps. Whatever you do remember do not buy alot! I have jellos and yogurt I can't even fathom eating cause I'm so full on so little!

    Looking for a RNY buddy

I had my surgery on 9/28 in NH. I am feeling pretty good. I had a wedding this past weekend, and that was pretty tough to deal with while eating my yogurt and baby food! I was also super tired when I got home. I had been averaging about 1.5 pounds a day loss since the surgery, but it slowed at the wedding. I went into surgery at 279.9 lbs and am currently at 269. I can't wait to eat regular food again!

    Hi

Hi Heather I'm Nicole I'm from North Ridgeville, OH. I lived in Walnut Creek, CA at one time. I had my gastric Bypass on 9/20. Starting weight: 319 Surgery weight: 293 Current weight: 276 I finally did this for myself. I have a three year old and 15 year old. I wanted to be healthier to do things with my kids. When I explained to my little one why mommy had surgery so she could play with him more, he goes "Oh, that will be good." Lol. I also just want to be able to go places and feel comfortable. Not look around to see if I am the biggest person in the room and feel ashamed when I realize I am. I am seeking comfort in my own body. Only being a few weeks out, my diet is fairly limited. Tried: Rotisserie chicken with FF Greek yogurt and curry (yum!), no bean chili, lean ground turkey and chicken, FF refried Beans, FF cottage cheese I haven't found much I can't handle yet. Had a sensitive stomach prior to surgery, so I am trying to be very careful. I found a great WLS cook book on amazon. Tried the teriyaki turkey burgers last night (puréed for me), and it was fantastic. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

  7. If you were sleeved Sept 28, don't do almonds yet! Can you have Greek yogurt? I've been stirring a scoop of unflavored Protein powder in a yogurt and it ends up being around 30g per serving. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. You might be on a stall. I had my surgery 8/8/16. I've already had 2 stalls. One for 3 weeks right after surgery, just getting off a 2 week stall. Everyone weight loss is different. Don't compare yourself to anyone. Make sure your Protein is at least 60a days, and Water at least 64. I find the 2 Snacks a day are imporant to get your protein in. I use light baby bell, or light &fit greek yogurt. Protein will fill you more and keep you going. Don't get discourage just stay your coarse, and the weight will come off. Don't forget to weight everything and log your food somewhere to always know where you are for tge day. Hope this help you to know your not alone and be patient. Any other picky eaters out there?

I'm not exactly picky but I have a lot of food allergies as well. The thing I love about the sleeve so far is that I don't get worked up about food- it doesn't always have to be so exciting. It just has to be fuel to move forward in your day. So when you find something that works for you, stick with it and eat it everyday. For me that's grilled chicken, yogurt, cheese. Some days I switch it up but most days, most meals I'm boring af. And it's great.
  12. I'm on my third day post op and feeling great. No more pain meds, taking my Vitamins, getting 64+ oz of liquids in and around 50 grams of Protein (need to up it a bit, but I think this is pretty darn good for three days post-op). Haven't weighed myself yet - waiting for the 2 week post-op appt. I started full liquids today (as opposed to clear liquids) and was able to have decaf coffee with a little bit of nonfat milk this morning and delicious split pea Soup with a dollop of nonfat Greek yogurt for dinner. Life is good. I hope that everyone is doing well! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. These are just some suggestions: I have 1% cottage cheese and mix it with a tablespoon of Polaners No Sugar Added Jelly, comes in a few flavors and only 10 calories. There are Polly-O cheese sticks that have no carbs but lots of Protein. There are Oikos Greek Yogurts that have no sugar added and 15 protein grams and come in salted caramel, coffee and chocolate flavor. The container is black and says triple 0. You can also have hummus, tuna salad made with lite mayo or if you are ok with eggs, you can make some egg salad as well. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Protien

Oikos has a high Protein Greek yogurt that comes in regular form and in a drinkable form. Great flavors: salted caramel, coffee, chocolate, berries, banana pudding. Lots of choices, no sugar added, low carb too. Target carries them. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Well I should be pureeing food, but instead I am eating soft things and just chewing to a paste. Taking a little sip of Water at times to make it the same consistency as pureed. Getting full very fast, but getting better at slowing down. Scrambled eggs are great and so is soft chicken. And the XXX Dannon Greek yogurt is good.

    My surgery eve is here!

Hi All, I'm doing well ???? been up for a shower, walking around the ward. Had 3 small spoonfuls of yogurt. Siping Water. Tried peppermint tea for gas. But I'm burping. Woke up from theater well, I was able to do mindfulness and the nurses helped me stay present. Emotionally I'm so happy with my choice, feeling in control. Feeling very sore, and nausea comes and goes. My stomach muscles hurt! But it's so worth it!! Thanks for all the kind words xx I'll keep posting.

Hoping someone can tell me about chia seeds

Not sure how the chia soaking any liquids in ones body would affect anything since they are heading to digestion anyway. Plus we have 30/30 rule. I think they taste better after soaking up yogurt but also fine in smoothies. For me, was permitted at 8 weeks post op

Any other picky eaters out there?

I'm picky now, low carb, no breads, sugars, pastas or rice. I love anything that swims but obviously that is out for you. I also love anything smoked. The crab that I had at work had gone bad so I hit up a local bbq joint and was pleasantly surprised to find that the sell there meat by the pound as well. I got 1/2 a pound of smoked brisket and 1/2 a pound of pulled pork. One super nice thing is that they don't sauce the meats until after so it is sugar loaded. I paid a whopping $11. I asked my sweetie to make chicken cordon bleu with pulverized wasa crackers as breading. She also used baby portobello shrooms Greek yogurt and milk as the basis of a sauce that was dang similar to cream of mushroom.

Any other picky eaters out there?

I am assuming you mean protein suggestions. I eat a lot of chicken and turkey but it has to be moist like rotisserie chicken. I also eat a lot of cottage cheese and low sugar Greek yogurt.

BMI of 21 getting gastric sleeve... thoughts?

Do you have a good therapist? Have you talked this through with a professional who works with people with eating disorders? to be honest i went through therapy couple years back but it did not help. I have not talked this through with a professional who specifically deals with eating disorders. but trust me, i did EVERYTHING that i could think of doing to try to solve my eating problem with no avail. Saying that the vsg is my choice of last resort is an understatement. This is like someone with a type of cancer that has a high survival rate if proper medical treatment is obtained claiming they did everything possible to no avail ------- except consult an oncologist and undergo proper medical treatment. You need to pursue ongoing, dedicated treatment with a professional who specializes in treating eating disorders, and genuinely be receptive to it. Many people with eating disorders have benefitted significantly from cognitive behavioral therapy, but it's not instantaneous. It requires patience and resolve. There are also medications that have been helpful. Research has shown that dysfunction of the serotonin system or dopamine system in the brain may be associated with binge eating disorders. It has more to do with your brain and your habits than the size of your stomach. The VSG will not be curative to an eating disorder. One of my friends / colleagues had WLS right after she graduated from college, and now at 30 is far larger than she was before it. She'd always used eating as her coping mechanism for stress, joy, and loneliness, and that didn't change after her surgery. While working on her PhD and dealing with a heartbreak she put back on all weight she lost, and considerably more. It actually became somewhat of an embarrassing issue at work for her because she was absent-mindedly eating food that belonged to other people from the staff kitchen, and got caught. You really only have a tight restriction immediately after surgery when your stomach is still healing. After that, there are many ways you can maneuver around the restriction and consume ample calories to stall out weight loss, or substantially gain. Calorie-laden liquids like Frappacinos will slide right down, as will ice cream, frozen yogurt, Desserts, and many other fattening foods. Drinking while eating can allow many people to consume more food. It's a form of self-sabotage, but you've demonstrated that you're already prone to this behavior. Even when you do have a tighter restriction, what you eat is as important as how much you eat. There's a bariatric surgeon on YouTube named Dr. Matthew Weiner, and he's made several videos discussing why people regain weight post WLS, and he emphasizes that point. I definitely think having the lap band removed is necessary, but definitely do not think the VSG would be beneficial for you. At the very least, why not at least wait a while? Has your mom put a time limit on how long the funds will be available for you to use? You could make an honest effort to undergo appropriate treatment for your eating disorder, and if you still want WLS in two years reconsider it then.

    Feeling Lost...

Oh okay, I would die for some mash, or oatmeal. They told me not to do those until 3 weeks post op. Right now they said to do sugarfree Popsicles, sugar free pudding, sugarfree Jello, Protein drinks of course, fat free yogurt, cottage cheese, diluted juices, fat free refried Beans, and egg whites. Maybe you can add one of these to give you more of a variety. I do 1oz-2oz every two hours. I don't know how to explain it but my body feels like it just needs really food you know. 24. Hey all. I'm one week Post op. Where do I start. Well the day of surgery I was pretty out of it and really tired from the anesthesia and pain meds. My doctors and nurses kept me really comfortable with my pain. I had to have an upper GI study before I was able to drink anything. Unfortunately my system was moving really slowly, so I had to have the upper GI done three times until things finally started to move along. My second time doing the GI, I fainted, but thankfully the doctor caught me lol. After things were good, I was finally able to do ice chips and I couldn't of been happier. After the ice chips, I started to do Water. The next day after surgery I was able to do sugarfree Popsicles, and broth. I really didn't care to much for eating or drinking because I was to tired, but they wouldn't discharge me until I was able to drink 4oz of water in a hour. My pain was bad, but thankfully they were keeping it controlled. The gas pain was horrible. The worst part for me was getting in and out of bed, that is when it hurt the most. When getting home I felt a level of regret, but just kept reminding myself why I'm doing this. I was doing Protein shakes, sugarfree Jello, sugar free Popsicles, and broth. I was doing good for the first three days, but after that I started to feel nauseous more which made me sad lol. I've been taking my water in perfectly even though I feel like I'm starting to hate the taste now lol. I have now been able to add sugar free pudding, low fat yogurt, egg beaters, cottage cheese, and refried Beans to my diet. Well I'm not a bean and cottage cheese kind of person, but I was so excited after doing liquids for so long. I tried beans with ms.dash seasoning and it was a fail! They were so nasty. I then tried the egg beaters with the ms dash seasoning and again I threw it in the trash. It sucks! I don't know what to do because the stuff they tell me to eat does not appeal to me and I get nauseous thinking about them. It's definitely been more of a struggle for me then I thought it would be. I had a minnie break down today and just cried. I have been so tempted to eat solid food, but I know the dangers, so I just sat in the shower and cried. It's definitely hard when the rest of your family can enjoy what they like and your just there by yourself not able to. As for pain now it's pretty much controlled by my pain meds except for the gas pain. The gas pain definitely sucks still, but I just been using the heating pad for it. My incisions are healing fine, it's just really the mental/emotional thing I'm struggling with. I also notice I have to brush my teeth constantly because I have a nasty taste in my mouth. Besides this long post I can say I'm taking it one day at a time trying to make it to the end lol. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

    Full liquids

I had my sleeve surgery 4 days ago (oct 3). I'm not liking the full liquids stage much. I am eating protien shakes, no sugar added yogurt, and strained soups. It's getting old fast. The thing I don't like is that I never feel really satified and am craving the bad foods I used to eat before surgery. ( I realize this could be head hunger). I thought those cravings would have gone away. I am hopeful that once I start on mushed foods, I can start to feel satified.
