You're not alone. It happens to me with drinks. And can be loud! I didn't do much broth, everything was too salty so I ate a lot of applesauce. I'm having a yogurt now and it's going bubble bubble. I'm 4 weeks out, can't speak to the does it go away part. -

Air travel post-op?
trekker954 replied to KaiserKid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will be able to travel barring any complications. Make sure you work hard first getting your Water in, then Protein those first two weeks so you can progress to mushies. Actually you may want to just stay on shakes through your trip. Pack up dry Protein Shakes and buy water at the airports and at your destination. You can pack many things to mix with water. Soups, crystal lite, ice tea. Stay hydrated. I've brought yogurt thru tsa and turkey and cheese rollups. I found cheese easy to eat at 3 weeks, not much else. eggs also. I traveled week 4, 5, 6 and am still back to my hectic travel schedule. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
Yeah, I leaned on Protein shakes, yogurt, and cheese pretty hard on that trip. I was cleared to try soft foods by then but mostly kept it safe and stuck with what I knew worked since I didn't want to get sick on my trip. The Blender Bottle and individual packets of Quest Protein Powder were clutch for me. I was in in CDMX which is famous for street tacos as well. On one of my last nights there one of the vendors made me a plate with just the taco filling which I tasted. Apparently it's pretty common - Mexicans watch their carbs too!

Those B'more Organic shakes look awesome...not sure why you'd gain if you're sticking to what you listed for food. Check your yogurt, some of them are loaded with sugar, but even so, you should be losing. Good luck with the weigh in!

@@hats123 thanks for asking. I had my 1 week post op check up today. Doc seems to skip purée stage and told me I can have cottage cheese, egg, soft foods. Just had an egg. Tasted like heaven. I feel like I could go a couple of spoons of cottage cheese now 20 mins later. I'm definitely not one of the people that can't face food sadly. Tomorrow I'm going to try yogurt with Protein Powder and a strawberry blended in. I started at 192lbs. I'm 5'7. 7 down so far. Can't wait to b where u are Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

That's entirely up to your surgeon, I would think. But if you're really ONLY eating the things you've said, and you're eating them in the amounts you should, then there's pretty much no way you should be gaining weight. What you need to do is be honest, get an app like MyFitnessPal, track how much you're eating in the app and see what the calories are amounting to. You may be eating healthy things, but in unhealthy amounts. If you're eating full-fat yogurt with fruit filling and all that, it's really high in sugar. Chasing that with a lot of fruit as well, your carbs are possibly very high every day. My pre-op diet was virtually no carbs, everything was sugar-free and non-fat, the focus was 90% on protein intake. I followed it to the letter (and consequently lost about 35 pounds before surgery).

Hello Everyone, Today is my last weigh in and my stress test I don't think that I am at my starting weight. I actually think that I am about 7 pounds over. Honestly, I have been having B'organic Protein shakes. For Breakfast lunch I ll have the mix leaves with a packet of tuna and a slice of avocado. I may have grapes, strawberries or a cup of yogurt for snack and then I'll march back upstairs to my bed after work and stay there until the next day. And get up and start all over again. Will this impact my surgery? I am hoping to get a surgery date before I leave today. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I would eat the 5.3 ounces of yogurt if u have no problems. Only slowly over at least 20-30 min. U will recognize full when u try foods not in a soft/liquid stage! meats, cheese eggs etc Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Aha! This was so good for me to read! I am still pre-op, but I have been eating a lot of soft high-protein foods like greek yogurt (with chia seeds to slow down the digestion), plain cottage cheese and ricotta cheese. I tend to eat 2 of these in the morning, around 8 and 11, but I find myself still hungry (stomach hunger, mostly). Maybe I need to eat more *dense proteins*, but I don't eat meat, so it's hard. I do eat fish (such as tuna), but I don't like to bring it to work so much. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

BE kind granola
Montana Gal replied to shelleys goal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As an occasional treat I will add 1/3 cup of the high Protein Kind granola to my greek yogurt. I make sure it fits into my days carb allowance. I am 8 months out and didn't add granola until around 7 months. -
I am 3 1/2 weeks post op. Can eat puréed chicken and ground turkey and veggies. About 1/2 cup I feel stuffed. I ate too much one time and it seemed to "get stuck" in my throat. So, I stick to 1/2 cup of whatever it is and quit. I agree that yogurt passes through pretty quickly but again, I try to eat no more than 1/2 cup. I also bought a variety of Bariatric Pal Protein Soups and they are pretty good much they pass on through pretty quickly and it's not long before you think you need to eat again. Good luck! You are not yet fully healed and therefore shouldn't rely on feelings of fullness. Also you won't really feel your restriction until you take in dense protein like chicken. Yogurt actually counted as a liquid on my plan so it definitely won't give you the same feeling as if you had eaten dense protein. As Kristen said, right now you really need to measure your portions and stick with it and accept that the goal isn't to eat until you feel full or stuffed.

@@Rosey posey I'm not allowed yogurt on my pre-op liquid diet but that's a possibility if allowed on your diet.

Are all post op diets different?
theantichick replied to Mnicole's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Different surgeons have different protocols, and I'll second and third what other people have said: if you trust your doc to operate, follow their protocols. It's unlikely your doc is going to have you eating purees the day of or after surgery, so even if you go through the phases faster than others, you still kinda do them. For instance. My doc had me on clear liquids the afternoon of the surgery. If I tolerated them (which I did) she wanted Protein Shakes tested the day after (day 2). She doesn't like to send people home until she knows they're able to keep fluids and protein shakes down. So I was technically on clear liquids for about 14 hours, then advanced to full liquids in the form of protein shakes. Interesting note: medically speaking, "full liquids" includes a bunch of things that aren't actually liquid. Yogurt, puddings, jellos, etc. are frequently included in a "full liquid" diet. Which makes it seem like "full liquids" isn't a good term, but it's the one used medically. My doc keeps us on full liquids (including sf pudding, yogurt, sf Jello, etc.) until our 14 day checkup, then moves us to the "soft foods" phase. Which seems to skip purees, mushies, what have you. But her instructions are to start with pureed type foods and advance as tolerated up to anything that's considered "soft" and moist (she had a list, included eggs, shredded chicken, tuna, etc.). So she's not really "skipping" those phases, just allowing the patient to advance as tolerated. Then at the 1 month checkup, I was cleared for pretty much anything, using the same "advance as tolerated" process. Start with the easier to chew/digest food and work up. So the answer to your question is yes, but... -

@@Ssearle You should be measuring your food and sticking with the recommended portions. Something like yogurt is going to go through your sleeve rapidly - you won't necessarily feel full. The goal isn't to feel full anyway - just satisfied.

I was sleeved on 9/28, and have had an absolute textbook recovery; walking over a mile five days after surgery, doing laundry, getting in all my Water & Protein, and back to work a week after surgery. My question is this: now that I am on puréed food, I thought I would recognize the "full" feeling. I ate a 5.3 oz. cup of oikos yogurt for lunch. Since my dietician said my stomach would initially hold 2ounces, shouldn't I feel stuffed? I feel like I'm satisfied, but not full like I overate. Does the puréed food pass through very quickly like the liquids? Will I not feel truly full until I am on regular food? Doing great, but feeling a little confused. What's your best protein shake recipe?
catwoman7 replied to rolosmom7's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
pre-surgery, smoothies were my go-to breakfast. Now I don't have them much anymore (I usually have Greek yogurt with a few fresh berries on top), but when I make them, I use unsweetened almond or cashew milk (instead of my former juice or regular milk), skip the yogurt, use a scoop or two of fruit- or vanilla-flavored Protein powder for the protein (if you use fruit-flavored powder, it can easily replace some of the fruit), and then *some* (not a lot) frozen fruit. for example, peach-flavored Protein Powder, half a frozen banana, a handful of frozen berries....
