  1. After i woke up from sugery my foot, ankle and part of my calf was numb. Three weeks later,it still is and i don't know what to do. I called my pcp and surgeon still no help. I'm beginning to lose hope. I'm losing weight but at what cost? Walking? Any one went or is going through this? Please share your insight.
  2. What do you think is keeping you from losing weight? What kind of "diet" are you following during this pre-op period? How many calories are you taking in per day? Carbs? Are you tracking or journaling your intake?
  3. what if I gained a pound or so this month, but overall have lost weight since my starting weight? will that be okay?

    Stuck.

That just recently happened to me. I was doing a ton of walking/hiking. I didn't lose but gain! What??? Eventually I had a significant drop (17 lbs in a month) hit wonderland but than gained a pound. Been holding for a couple days. It's frustrating but keep on doing what you're doing!!!

Since you are going by the book then you know that bandsters average 1-2 pounds of weight per week. You were banded 12/30 so in 32 days (4 1/2 weeks) you've lost 9 pounds...which is 2 pounds a week, spot on. Without restriction, no less. I think you need to adjust your expectations. You're blue and setting yourself up to fail when in fact you are progressing along perfectly! If you think of it logically and still feel disappointed, call your surgeon. Perhaps an appt. with a nutritionist will help. But realize that at your age, with no restriction, losing 2 pounds a week is a good rate.
  6. So I have noticed that my clothes are really starting to get bigger on me. The girls at work and my mother are making comments that I am really starting to show some weight loss. But I just chalked that up to trying to be nice and supportive. So one of my parents (i own a daycare center) commented today that I really looked like I was losing weight and I looked really good. That one felt good cause it was someone that I dont really see to often cause she comes so early in the morning and I always miss her. The other one came from one of my 5 year old boys. I was standing there watching the kids play on the monkey bars and he just looked at me and said "Miss Connie you are so skinny". Wow, havent heard that word used for awhile. Granted, ive only lost 20 lbs and need to lose about 60 more, so he is a little ahead of himself, but anyway, I will take it when I can get it. I think that one meant the most so far, because it has to come from the heart if its from a 5 year old. Right?

How many calories a day are you eating? Sometimes you aren't eating enough and that causes you to lose slower. I think you have to figure out the just right number your body needs in order to let the weight go

Now what about past weight records? I haven't been morbidly obese for that long?

    Bmi 37.59

I have United Healthcare and I went for my first consult today, I have to go to some nutrition classes and get some testing done. Since I'm 37 with no medical issues don't have to get to a BMI of 40 to get the surgery? I hate to gain anymore weight!

    What will you MISS?

I miss being invisible. I am a bit shy, introverted, convinced that the first thing people notice about me is how fat I am. Having lost even a bit of weight has me getting more attention. And I'm not really okay with it yet. I'm working on it though, and happy, I try to speak up more, but old habits die hard I also tuck my hand under my roll to warm it up. Now I can just put my tips under compared to my whole hand from before
  12. I have the implannon and haven't had my surgery yet. I'm scheduled on Nov 7th. I have gained about ten lbs on while on it. I am now on the liquid pre op diet and I have lost weight while on the diet. My question is to those who have already had the surgery. Were any of you on BC and did it have any impact on how much weight you lost after surgery?

    Tomorrow Its My Turn!

Super excited for you! Impressive pre-surgery weight loss...you are going to do fantastic! Will be sure to say a little prayer for you. Hugs!
  14. My biggest fear is not being able to fit in the seats. The last time I flew it was circa 1997 and I weighed 170lbs. Now I weight 350lbs. Can people who have gone to Mexico tell me how they flew, such as if they went economy or first class, did they have to purchase an extra seat, etc.
  15. I'm about a month and a half out from my surgery, and I've lost 43 lbs. My scale number on Friday morning said 315 lbs. This morning, it was 317-318. Think this is just normal fluctuation? My diet hasn't changed, and I'm getting in my 60-80 grams of protein a day and all my water. I did try something this weekend that I ordered from the bariatric pal store, the guilt-free brownies that have 22 grams of protein in them per brownie. (Could only eat half a brownie at a time) I still ate under 700 calories per day. Weight gain makes little sense to me at this point unless it's just fluctuation or retaining a bit of water

    Question On Flying

I haven't been to Mexico, but I've done a fair amount of work travel. Hopefully now that I'm losing weight it won't be something I'll need to do anymore, but I found it helpful to ask to board early. I've never had an issue at the gate just asking if I can board early due to a medical condition (obesity is a medical condition). Then when they call people with little kids and disabilities, you can get on the plane and it'll give you a minute to get situated and ask for a seatbelt extender if you need it before the plane gets packed. Good luck to you!

    No weight loss

I had my sleeve surgery about 10 days ago. Saw the Doc at 1 week post-op check up. I was discussing this very topic with him, and while the article posted above goes into a lot of detail, a key aspect of early stall is simply related to the fact that while you were in the hospital, they pumped lots and lots of fluids into you (remember the frequent IV bag changes?). Well, that adds a lot of Water weight to the body and it takes some time to get the body into a rhythm of reducing. I think this dovetails into what the article says in greater detail. -RC-
  19. It's been two weeks and I have only lost maybe 2-3 lbs. actually I go up and down. I have been working out a lot and getting my protein/water. I am getting so frustrated. ????

Anyone Feel Like They Wont Lose?

I have been on the pre-op diet at under 1000 calories and haven't lost much weight. However, it just makes me realize hoe important this surgery is for me.

    June 2, 2013.....week 2

So many changes in one week to report......... First, my tentative scheduled sleeve date changed - instead of August 19th, I'm doing it on August 5th - two weeks earlier!! When I start to think that at the end of next month, I have to start the pre-op diet - it just sort of blows my mind! Today, I went to my regular doctor, so he could write the "Letter of Medical Necessity." He offered these words of hope, which really put my mind at ease: "Ten years ago, I would have never written this letter for you, because it was mostly for the bypass - but, the sleeve surgery has been so perfected and is the least invasive - it is truly safe." Then, he looked at me in the eyes and asked me a question that sort of shook my psyche: "Just how much longer do you think your knees and hips could hold up your weight anyways?" "Not much...." I replied meekly. So, here's the weekly progress: June 2, 2013 9 weeks post op - Current weight: 316.8 Goal weight: 172 Height: 5'10" My weekly diet modifications: Incorporoate one small, healthy meal in this week. My weekly behavioral modifications: Trying to eat dinner, minus the television - needs more work. I really need to try harder to do this... Pre surgery tasks - Today - I went to my regular doctor to get the "Letter of Medical Necessity." Tuesday - second appointment with the nutritionist Wednesday - monthly Bariatric Support Group meeting

Do you have insurance that covers weight loss surgery? Find out. If so, call your insurance company and find out the qualifying criteria. Then consult with your primary care physician, as they need to write a referral to a surgeon for most insurance plans. Then explore the various surgical options.
  24. Hi, My name is Lisa. I live in Michigan and work as a Bariatric Center Manager and Certified Group Support Leader. I am married and have 2 children, a step daughter and 2 grand children by marriage. My husband didnt want me to have surgery because he didnt want to chance losing me on the table. He went to one of our informational sessions so I could explain why this is important to me. I want to be around!!! And with the weight I am carrying, my time here will be shortened. He understood and is now one of my biggest supporters. I am blessed. I had the Lap Band done in 2008. I had complications, my port moved which meant second surgery. From the beginning it was hard for my band to be filled the pokes ranged from 15-27 even under floroscopy. I went to another doctor, the one that eventually I would work with. He did some testing and found my band had moved. I had to have another surgery to take the band out to stop erosion on my stomach. I had lost in total 110 lbs but over time had gained alot back. My New Surgeon Vasanth Salin MD performed a sleeve gastrectomy on 1/7/13. To date I am 30lbs down and feeling great!! I can definately tell the difference in the surgeries because I feel very restricted. I coach and help patients on a daily basis and my job is very fulfilling. But I am human too and need guidance and support. That is why I joined this forum. For support and also topics that I can present to our patients that attend the group support we offer. I look forward to the new friends I will make. Lisa

    Last weigh in

Hello Everyone, Today is my last weigh in and my stress test I don't think that I am at my starting weight. I actually think that I am about 7 pounds over. Honestly, I have been having B'organic Protein shakes. For Breakfast lunch I ll have the mix leaves with a packet of tuna and a slice of avocado. I may have grapes, strawberries or a cup of yogurt for snack and then I'll march back upstairs to my bed after work and stay there until the next day. And get up and start all over again. Will this impact my surgery? I am hoping to get a surgery date before I leave today. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
