Nausea/vomiting & just feeling ill
Jaz A replied to Jaz A's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thank you, it’s definitely so hard and frustrating. I see my PCP tomorrow and my surgeon again on 10/1 so I’m hoping that we can find a better plan. I’ll try opening the Prilosec capsule and taking it that way to see if it helps better. -
My surgery is set for Dec. 30th, I called my insurance and they sent my Job protected leave paperwork 9/10/19. Also known as FMLA. They told me if my surgery date change then they will accommodate that change. I requested 2 weeks, not thinking I need all those days since I work remotely, but wanted to make sure I'm drinking ok. I had lap band removal July 12th and have been seeing my Dct since May to request for Roux En Y. When I went back for post OP visit he asked me if I was ready and I requested before end of year due to my out of pocket expenses have all been paid. He was and is so great he has me scheduled for Dec 30th hoping nothing changes other than a sooner date.

Medicare coverage for revision
WOLVESFAN1 replied to WOLVESFAN1's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Yes, I have seen the nutritionist. I do chew and eat slowly. I can soft scramble an egg and eat at 8AM and late after noon some of the egg still comes up. I also have problems with liquids at time. I try not to drink a lot before eating and wait a while after eating. I've stopped drinking the protein shakes because they apparently sit in the little pocket and sour. I know that when I have the surgery I will go through different stages of food and I know they want me to have the protein shakes. That's why I stopped trying to get them down. I'm afraid I'm going to turn myself against them and won't be able to stomach them when I need them to heal from the surgery. I live in a very small city. My GI doctor said there wasn't a surgeon in our area that he would feel comfortable sending me to because I am a high risk patient. I have other medical issues. He referred me to a larger hospital that's a teaching hospital and they agreed I needed to be converted, but none were willing to do the surgery. The larger hospital is over an hour away. They referred me to Mayo Clinic and they are over 1000 miles away. I have had multiple EGD's, manometry test, Barrium Swallows, Acid test, etc. Mayo repaired my hernia and diaphragm a few months back and we were hoping that would do the trick, but I continued to throw up. Mayo did the same test again and when I did the Barrium Swallows it shows the liquid spontaneously coming back up. The EGD shows the pocket that's formed in my sleeve. Basically, some food trickles down, but a lot of it backs up in the pocket and then it has no where to go, but to come back up. TMI, but I've actually had food coming back up through my nose and throat. I can't remember when I've eaten something and it not come right back up or several hours later. We have spent thousands of dollars out of our pocket to pay for the trips to the different hospitals and for test that weren't covered by my insurance. The airline tickets and motels are several thousand dollars each time we go to the Mayo Clinic. I'm 63, but will be eligible for Medicare on 12/1/19. My current insurance will not cover the revision because I was self pay 12 years ago. I didn't have their insurance at that time, but they said that doesn't matter. They even said that if I was eligible for the revision I would still have to follow the 7 month protocol for the WLS. I can't afford to lose anymore weight and my doctor nor I can not understand why they would even say that. I could probably fight them in court, but to be honest with you I feel like I'm running out of time. My state does not offer Medicare Supplements for people under 65. Therefore, I will be paying my Medicare deductibles and the 20% out of my pocket. So, I have nerves about all of our retirement going out the window and then I'm scared to death to have the surgery, but scared not to have it. I'm sure I've repeated a lot of what I've already written. I hope all goes well with you and you can resolve your problem without surgery. I wish I could. -

Hi fellow October folks - Thought it would be fun to do a roll call and to see our surgery months/twins. I extrapolated as much as I could from our Surgery Thread but if I missed anything....feel free to cut and paste and repost and add your date. Good luck to us all! To whom it may concern. I got to see my surgeon again yesterday. It went really really well I'm still 4.5 weeks out from my date which is confirmed as 10/28 and I'll be the first surgery after lunch that day. I've started my own preop diet early and I'm down 38lbs currently at 282lbs aiming for around 185lbs. Surgeon says any weightloss will definitely help him do the surgery and help my recovery. The BMI doesn't matter they use the first BMI that's it but he said it's good I've lowered my risk factors and I'll be in my own private room and private bathroom facilities in the hospital. I'll be looking at least 3 days as long as I'm getting liquids down and walking well but if any issues could be longer. I do have some kidney issues so will need extra monitoring before I leave as I live on my own. In response to the technical he said he usually makes the bypass 120cm long whatever that means; he said it's restrictive but not Majorly so that you can still live with some vitamins and to be most careful to get enough calcium and vitamin D for the bones as the bones can possibly have issues long term if not taken care of early. He was really happy with my weight loss and to see how committed I was so that I don't need to see him until surgery day He just said keep up the good work and basically in giving my body a Head Start by losing weight before the surgery!! I'm happy. I'm excited. now all I need to lose to be at my final end goal is 100lbs that's it cannot wait to get this surgery and start a new life and a positive future! I'm doing great with shakes and can tuna and Frozen veggies then some days ill have some blueberries and strawberries With my protein intake and very low carbs I'm finding that I'm not craving much at all so I'm happy just hope the restriction comes from surgery as well. Anyways that's my latest news I've just gotta keep myself positive and committed until surgery then I'll figure it all out AFTER surgery in regards to taste buds and such. Thanks again to everyone who has offered their kind words over the last 12 months of my journey!! Good day. Mikey

Stomach pain 10 weeks post Gastric bypass
Frank_underwood posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had my MGB on July 15 , and recovery went well for a while , first 4 weeks were solid free weeks , i introduced solids slowly after Steaks and burgers give me a very hard time so i stayed away from them. By hard time i mean stabbing and colic pain in my stomach right above the umbilicus and to the left I am now getting the same severe colic pain on a daily basis despite being careful with the solids , only soups , salads , and chicken , no meat I also get severe pains if i stay a long time without eating , especially in the morning if i dont eat breakfast right after waking up I do take some gasix , and some gaviscon , it helps a bit but not much I am not doing well on hydrating , some days are good some arent Any idea if this pain is normal first few months post surgery ? Anything in particular should i take or do , thank you very much in advance for your thoughts -

Miserable 5 days post op
Bastian replied to KohakuSueda's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, I am so sorry you have so much on your plate! 19 month olds are hard work when we are healthy never mind post op and being kicked out lovely no wonder you feel so awful! Any way you can resolve things with your mum? Or even get some social help? -
I plateau’d in week 3 for 10 whole days! But I am not discouraged, my body needs time to figure out what is going on. And, I had bypass surgery. I lost 20lbs in the first 2 weeks and 3lbs in the second 2 weeks. Since I am only in week 4 I can’t truly answer your question. Just don’t get discouraged

I had my surgery on 8/28/19. My second week I believe I was feeling hungry for a couple of days. My two daughters had surgery last year and they said I was having head hunger. Whatever. Sent from my Lenovo TAB 2 A8-50F using BariatricPal mobile app

I think it may depend on insurance and your doctor's requirements. I wasn't required to attend a seminar, however, my doctor does host a monthly seminar and I attended by choice. I was only required to be on a doctor's supervised diet for 6 months and to see a nutritionist twice and a psych doctor once. I also had to have clearance from my primary. Good luck to you!!
