    10 months

I weight about once a week. Haven’t lost more than 10 pounds in 3 mon. I’m at 10 months. I had gastric bypass. I feel like it was falling off now it’s not. I am close to normal bmi but why am I gaining. I know I’m able to eat more than I was but I’m nervous
  2. I feel like my appetite is getting bigger and my weight loss is slowing down. I gained 3 pounds I’m scared. After a 100 pound weight loss I’m nervous had this happened to anyone. Can anyone guide me?
  3. I'm 3 weeks out and I feel like I could eat a lot more then most at my stage. I never really feel full. I do get restrictions/pain when eating soft foods. But I can drink liquids with no problem at all. I've been wondering if my stomach is a little larger then some right after surgery. I don't feel like my hungry hormone weren't removed. All I can do is measure out my food. And when my stomach starts growling and I get the hunger pains. I just drink more water. Ive only lost 13th in almost 3 weeks. I also walk about 45 minutes to an hour. 3 miles and burn over 300 calories 5 days a week. I really was hoping to have a bigger weight loss by now.
  4. I believe you'll hit your goal this time around. I had the revision in August due to gerd. I am below my goal now and after reaching it a couple of months ago, I am continuing to lose weight. For example, I lost 4.7 lbs just last month. It has been extremely effective for both gerd and rapid weight loss for me. Now I just want to make sure I stay in the normal weight range instead of entering the underweight range, due to my age. I am in my 60s. I feel so much better physically since the revision. Menopause

Fat cells contain and can help create estrogen, so when you loose weight quickly you unlock some of the stores of estrogen. I call it my personal global warming. I’m post menopausal and experienced a fake period, and random hot flashes. I can limit the nighttime flashes by going to bed a little bit hungry. I’m still trying to understand the food hormones and gender hormone links? Anyone else?

    Kinda annoyed and confused

No problem. Also remember you are reaching your 3rd week here soon. Most people stall out at that time or a little before where you wont loose any weight for a couple weeks or so. I am on week 4 and i havent lost any weight now for about 2 weeks. so dont get disgorged when that time comes. It will pass.

    May Surgery Buddies

Hi, thanks so much asking! ☺️ I’m doing really well right now. I’m just weak if I do too much - I have to rest in between. Not much energy back yet. i had a revision from a sleeve to a SADI because I ended up gaining a 100lbs back of the 150lbs that I lost with my VSG. The 100 lb gain was due to depression meds and me getting on a food pity party for 3 years and not coming off of it! Lol oh, I so hope that you feel better soon! Did you get a VSG? I found the hardest thing there was adjusting to the amounts of fluid that I could take in. Also, the after effects of the surgery was hard to come back from. Hopefully, you’ll have a turn around soon and start feeling like yourself again! Big hugs! best wishes!
  9. Well I slowly stopped tracking, I started eating larger portions as well as unhealthy meals, and I started eating unhealthy snacks again, and eventually just went back to my old habits and it was as if I'd never had the surgery at all. It took several years but almost all the weight came back. This was for a variety of reasons, both personal and professional, but suffice to say now that I know what to watch out for I will be a lot more careful this time around.

    Pregnant

First, congratulations on your pregnancy. I agree with the advice of speaking to your dietician about adjustments to your diet (though you may be surprised at how few changes you need to make - you’re not eating for two adults but you & a tiny baby) I’m surprised your OB removed your IUD & obviously didn’t recommend alternative means of contraception saying you won’t fall pregnant for several months. Women experience a hormonal flush from the excess oestrogen which is stored in their fat being released as they lose weight. It’s why women experience erratic, heavier, lighter, more or less frequent menstrual cycles & mid cycle spotting during this time. It likely wasn’t your IUD causing the weird bleeding but your weight loss. The flush tends to make you more fertile too & is why many surgeons recommend doubling down on your contraception until your weight stabilises. Pregnancies, while losing are quite common. Make sure your surgeon knows the advice given to you by your OB who you thought would know more about your reproductive cycle.
  11. First, it takes a hell of a lot of hard work, eating excessive quantities of food over a prolonged period of time to stretch out your tummy again. You certainly won’t stretch it out in 6 weeks. Many surgeons say it’s nigh on impossible to do. So you can breath about that. You’re ok. As to quantity of food, yes your portion sizes are more than I did then & some are more than I do now. (e.g. 3-4oz protein, 1.5 eggs, 1/2 a thin pork sausage). BUT, there are lots of different plans out there with different portion size & calorie goals/ recommendations. And some can eat more. If you are following your plan you are doing fine. AND, you can only eat what you are physically able to eat without causing discomfort. Though it is odd you haven’t felt your restriction yet given you are eating solid foods. I’d check your calories though as 130g of salmon fillet alone is 222, 2 eggs are 156 & 4ozs pork sausages can be 345 calories. Of course it can depend on the size of the eggs, ingredients in the sausages, cut of chicken, etc. Though you can eat more doesn’t mean you should. Have a chat with your dietician about protein goals, portion sizes, caloric goals, etc. For example 4ozs is generally considered the recommended portion of protein an adult should eat at a meal. I wonder if you are exceeding your protein goal as a result?? Having a little more is ok but again check with your dietician. I remember my dietician questioning the size of people’s tummy post surgery. There’s a difference in removing 80% of a tummy that could hold say 3 cups of food versus 80% removed of a tummy that could hold 5 cups. The larger tummy is still going to be able to hold more. Simple maths. Congrats on the weight you have lost so far.

    ESG Expected Weight Loss

Yes, it’s total weight. So I weighed 200lbs when I began & I should have expected, based upon the 20% stat, to lose about 40lbs. Which is a much better potential result than if it was excess weight I had to lose. Congratulations but remember it’s not where you ‘should’ be. It’s a suggestion of what you might achieve. No guarantee. You could lose more or less. As I said above, there are too many factors you can’t control that influence how much you lose.
  13. I'm calling my surgeons office on Monday to set up an appointment! I'm not waiting a year or a few months. I'm getting the show on the road. I'm done trying the traditional way. I'm always failing and I'm sick of it. I do wish I did this a few years ago, but I have my support system and now all I need to do is just set up the appointment. I'm scared, but freaking excited at the same time! I can't wait to start my new chapter and my new life. This weight is killing my feet and back. I need to be able to run with my child. So, yeah I can't wait!!

    Gastric Sleeve to Gastric Bypass

I had the sleeve in 2015. I lost about 90 pounds from my highest weight which was still a ways from goal, but over 7 years managed to gain back about 25 pounds. Early this year my hiatal hernia worsened and because of that and GERD my surgeon told me I really needed revision to bypass. My revision surgery was three months ago. I've done well with recovery with no complications. I've lost about 33 pounds since surgery and am about 19 pounds from goal. I will say that weight loss for me has been slower with the revision, possibly because I didn't have as much to lose. The surgery did take care of my hernia and GERD issues. I have not pushed the envelope with high fat or very sweet foods to see if I have any issues with dumping, but I'm told only about 1/3 of bypass patients do. Because of the change in the way your pouch works (less stomach acid and such) I have experienced a couple issues with dry or very tough foods causing what is called frothing or 'foamies'. It's very uncomfortable but passes in an hour or so. All in all I'm glad I had the surgery. I was having significant issues from the hernia and really didn't have a choice, but it's nice to be down in a weight range I never made it to with the sleeve.
  15. Good topic. For me it's a combination of the restriction and the decreased hunger. I am still in the honeymoon period, just about 6 months after my sleeve. I have no idea how things will go for me long term but at the minute I am absolutely determined to use the tool I went to such lengths to get, and I am getting constant payback because I am losing weight. It's the speed of the loss too - I'm still consistently losing 2+ pounds a week so that's huge motivation to keep doing what I am doing. I do worry a lot about maintaining weight loss because I have never done that before. I think my chances are better this time though.
  16. Wow we are same day surgery buddies! My surgery is also June 13th. Tbh I am a massive control freak so I am doing everything I can to control all aspects of the surgery. I am making a lot of list and watching "things I wish I knew before i had vsg surgery" videos. My daughter's birthday is the day after and I scheduling deliveries thru out the day for her as I don't know exactly when I will be home (Dr's ofc promised if at all possible I would be going home on the 14th). She is getting a small delivery for each year...considering she is a teen ..ouch lol. I am also setting up my FMLA/short term disability case for my job. I hope I don't need it but I want it in place just in case. I am planning to be out 1-3 weeks an now I know that all that time will be paid so I am not as freaked out about taking 3wks off if I need it. My friends want to help me but I have a hard time asking for help/things. So my amazing teen gave me the great idea of doing an Amazon wish list..so I have been setting that up (I still feel like I am begging for stuff). I am reading up on protein shakes and medications. Still haven't found the answer to will I gain weight when I have to go off the Phentermine/Topiramate combo, my weight loss Dr has me on, for the 2 weeks prior to surgery? But I keep looking. I really can't imagine life after surgery so I pretty much am trying to do everything I can think to do to make whatever happens after i wake up from surgery as smooth as possible. Sorry so long winded

    Pregnant

Okay so I had surgery in august 2021 and just had my iud taken out last month due to weird and irregular bleeding. My ob said if I was to fall pregnant it would be 6-9 months from now due to hormones balancing out. My period is a week late and took a pregnancy test and it’s positive .. the line is kinda faint so idk for sure but my weight also seems to have stabilized ?? I haven’t lost any weight since February im fluctuating between 180-183 weekly but that’s it. I’ve seen horror stories where people have been pregnant and their surgeon was rude about it because they weren’t a year out yet. I’m kinda afraid to tell them.. help
  18. I set the bar very low for him. He has become accustomed to putting minimal effort because I automatically pick up the slack. It is one of the things I am working on in therapy. I think he loves me. He has never commented on any other area because I have everything handled. He has a substance absue problem which he thinks is under control. There is a lot which got us to this stage but its just sad that after all that we have been through (losing our first born among other things) that the affection that I have always wanted is happening because I am losing weight. I wasn't think when he married me. I appreciate the share. Thank you Sent from my SM-G986B using BariatricPal mobile app

My husband doesn't want me to have surgery

I had my surgery on April 5th. Prior to that point my husband said all the same things. You have been loosing weight u don't need the surgery. You are learning on your own to eat small portions. Your walking, Etc. The list goes on. While he no longer says those things when I walk into the living room he gets up and leaves and retreats to the bedroom. If I go to the bedroom he got to the living room. He barely sleeps in our bed at the same time. [emoji24]So here u go he is 66 and I am 64 I raised 7 children of which he helped raise 3 and now their grown and on their own. I'm lonely, somewhat depressed in the situation. I'm darned if I do and darned if I don't. But then I think why did I do all this??? I did it for me, my health, my life. But what more can I say... Sent from my LGL722DL using BariatricPal mobile app

    Gastric Sleeve to Gastric Bypass

Greetings @Im4miracles - Michelle, I got my sleeve surgery in 2016. I lost around 130 lbs During the time from 2020, I had gained some of the weight back. I also had severe GERD (where the GERD was so severe that I was vomiting my food almost everyday). I went back to my Bariatric surgeon in February, 2020 to revise my sleeve surgery to a Gastric Bypass with hernia surgery I have to admit that I had similar concerns about the Gastric Bypass that you do. I was concerned about the dumping syndrome and wondering if I could keep the weight off with revision to the bypass surgery. I got my Gastric Bypass surgery with hernia surgery in March 2020. It was the best decision I ever made for myself because in hindsight I don’t have this severe GERD anymore. Once I was released from the hospital, I didn’t have much pain and didn’t have to take my narcotic pain killer. At my 6 month post op appointment, my bariatric surgeon was extremely pleased with my weight loss progress because I had lost 124% of my original body weight. My current body weight is in the mid 130’s. I was really scared that I would experience dumping syndrome after my bypass surgery - which I did not. In my experience, I haven’t had malabsorption of my daily nutrition in my body. My bariatric vitamins don’t taste horrible (I take my bariatric vitamins daily). Fortunately, my tastebuds haven’t changed because of the bypass surgery. I can eat all foods that I had eaten before I got my bypass surgery. I no longer have to take the Protonix 40 mg because the bypass surgery cured the GERD for me. Lastly, the weight that I had lost from my bypass surgery hasn’t returned because I use my Lose It application (food journal) to budget my calories, I walk everyday for 30 minutes at a minimum, and I use the nutritional plate method (that my medical nutritionist told me about). The plate method is where you divide your plate in to three sections: first section is 50% of the plate is made out of fruits and vegetables (I typically have 25% of fruits and 25% of vegetables in this section), second section is 25% of protein food, and the third section is 25% of carbohydrates foods. Using the nutritional plate method I make sure I’m getting the proper nutrition. Michelle, I hope that what I’ve written has given you food for thought. I have successfully gone from a sleeve surgery to a bypass surgery without any complications and i am extremely happy about my weight loss journey, thus far
  21. I mean we all have things that attract us to someone and stuff that does not attract us. Would you expect someone who really isnt attracted to their significant other to fake it? 3 years tho is a long time to not really show any intimate affection. i would be having a discussion probably within the first few months. me personally i know what i am attracted to and what i am not attracted to. and i have been told by a girlfriend before that they are not attracted to me anymore due to my weight gain. but the good thing is they told me. but still the original poster its a bit messed up for being married that long and only now showing interest when you are loosing some weight.

    Gastric Sleeve to Gastric Bypass

I had Lap Band, developed GERD and due to overuse of Protonix, I developed a kidney stone. So it was then that I decided that I had to move on the GERD issue. I had the band removed in April 2021 (no regain, but I didn't get to my goal weight with the band) and now I'm revising to RNY soon. I was fearful of RNY when my surgeon told me it was the best way to resolve the GERD. And after watching a video, I realized that my fear was based on Lap Band marketing. In order for Lap Band to be successful, they had to make their competitor look bad. So Lap Band took old data about RNY (before surgical improvements were made) and used complication rates of the older style RNY surgery that was from I believe the 1980's? So when you say that RNY is a permanent surgery... are you aware that RNY is reversible? You went forth with sleeve surgery and they removed about 80% of your stomach, do you not think that's permanent? It's more permanent than RNY. Sure things are rerouted, but nothing is removed. So it can all be rerouted to "normal" if necessary. There's many, many people on this forum that have revised from other wls (Band, Sleeve) to RNY and are happy and thriving. I hope to be one soon.
  24. I had VSG a few weeks ago and lost weight since then. It has been the best decision ever - the gift that keeps giving. I am so grateful Lately my husband has been giving me more physical attention wanting to be intemate. Before the surgery he would barely be intimate with me and it has been the case for a long time. We have been married for 12 years and I have put on weight over the years. I gained weight during covid and the intimacy has sort of died out over the last 3. With us not being intimate for almost a year. I noticed him take an interest in me the last week or so. I feel awful. I am still the same person only slightly lighter. Help I don't know what to do.
