Hi everyone!😁 I'm Melly. I'm married with a teenager and a preteen. I've had trouble losing weight since my mid 20's, I'm in my 40's now. Just couldn't keep it off. Each time I failed a little more would stay on. I have PCOS, Diabetes, COPD and Asthma among other things but my weight made those worse. Climbing over 300lbs and have no quality of life was my line in the sand. I had my RNY surgery on June 7th (I can't figure out how to put that in my profile). I started my pre-op liquid diet on May 27th. I've lost 50lbs since then and I can't believe my mobility and energy. My goal is 160lbs. I have 100lbs to go. I know it's a journey and that RNY is just a tool but for the first time in a long time I feel like I have a chance. Right now I am in the middle of my first stall. I was really down on myself at first but continue eating correctly,in the past I would've gone for junk to self soothe but won't because I'm afraid of dumping. I finally called my doctors office and they explained that I stalled and it was natural and would happen 3-4 more times over the year. It started on July 3rd. I'm staying the course but it is a little frustrating that it hasn't broken yet. So thats me in a nutshell. I'm excited to get to know everyone and already appreciate the answers this board has given. Thanks! Later! Melly💋

Ok so this is my third week post op and even though my diet plan doesn’t mention anything about crackers I have been eating ritz reduced crackers and my stomach is taking them really well. I am not munching on them but I had about 4-5 crackers today. I don’t know if I should be guilty? Or is eating crackers normal at the soft food stage? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I do love cooking for others. Ive thought about trying to learn to cook really well, like culinary classes or something so i can cook quality- learn to make good food i make a lot of throw together meals but if i learned to make high quality meals from scratch it would keep me busy and i would be doing something i enjoy. i used to draw, i drew really well but ive lost my technique and just dont have time anymore it seems. I work a very demanding work from home animal rescue job. I work from the time i wake until I go to sleep on call 7 days a week. I also have 3 small children. im only 2.5 months out so early for these kind of urges i think 😩 -

That you will stall and you need to just keep on going. You haven't messed up, you're not doing anything wrong (as long as your following doc's instructions), you haven't failed, this is just your body resetting. People on a regular diet plan losing 1lb a week stall, so imagine how panicked or brain is after 5-10lbs! Your body is just getting everything balanced back out for the new you. -

I feel your pain. I've been stalled since July 3rd. I called my doctor's office on July 8th to make sure everything was OK and his nurse called me right back to say yes and explained I was in a stall and they were expected and I'd have more throughout my weightloss journey. I could've cried y'all! I was getting so knotted up thinking once again I failed (where it was supposed to be almost impossible if I follow the plan and i have been strict!) and it was all hopeless only to find out this is normal body stuff. It's resetting itself. I was so relieved. They really should put that in the pre-op literature🤪. I have been guilty of daily weighing but am now weighing on Friday. I had my surgery on June 7th. Later, Melly -
Yes! The dr said to drink room temp, warm, hot only for the first week because if cold, it causes construction inside. Makes sense. So I went ahead and drank a cold Premier Protein shake and was fine. I am so hungry!!

Hey all! I had DJB-S on June 29. Recovery has been a little rough. I can’t stand most protein shakes/drinks since surgery and I’m having some trouble getting my clear liquids in everyday. That means I’ve been in the infusion center a few times for IV fluids, so that I don’t dehydrate. I can tolerate some foods just fine (yogurt, oatmeal, cottage cheese) and others don’t agree with me at all (tuna and salmon). I’ve not been as active as I think I should be, but I’m pretty weak. I’m hoping this week I will be able to turn a corner. Shoot me some tips and tricks about proteins. I hope you’re all doing well! -

Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first

As of today, I have officially dropped a full clothing size!!!! The scale isn't moving again (hello stall #2) but I dropped from a size 26/28 to a size 22/24. WHAT??!?! I literally cried. I can't believe I'm sitting here in size 22/24 clothes. Right now. I also went out to dinner with my husband last week and we sat at a booth and my stomach wasn't smooshed against the table. I had space there!!! Again...WHAT?!?!? -

It seems like when I work out more, I stall. So I was trying to just stay with what I had, and I'm still stalled. So now I'm going to ease my work outs and just walk. Hopefully that will help. -

I know exercise should be part of the routine but everytime I tried to incorporate more intense workout, I used to stall. So I kinda gave it a rest and relied mostly on my 45 mins of daily walk for exercise purposes. So may be, go easy on the workout routine especially this early in the weight loss phase. Once you're more settled with a certain number you can always build your physique as long as your mindset is on point. For me personally, stalls pressured into negative thinking of *what if this is it* and I won't lose anymore. Or that I'll lose slowly and then bam done losing at a weight I am uncomfortable with. This fear always hovered about and I didn't want to work against my sanity. So I decided to take lose with intense workouts. And focused mostly on eating and losing. I am at a happy place for now. And once I have reached about 120, my mindset will be so much better to form a good workout routine even if I had to up my calories. Bottom line is, try easing your workout routine. -
I thought ketosis flu was more the first week? I am having the sleeve done. I really hope It gets better soon

Hi Bebaeg, Thank you so much for asking. I had my revision on May 9. I’ve lost 33-ish pounds. I get stuck in the middle of the next 10 pounds, so right now I’m fluctuating between 264 and 266. When I first stalled, I realized that I was severely constipated. I’m finding that that happens a lot. Unfortunately, the solution leads to the opposite problem of diarrhea. 🙄 I’m grateful for what I’ve lost, but it’s still frustrating. -
Day 4 Post Op: surgery was 7/12 and I was on ice chips only until the following day when I had imaging to check for leaks. Since there were no leaks I progressed to full liquid diet. I stayed one more night and was released home on 7/14. Pain is decreasing significantly each day. I've been taking my Norco before going to bed and every so often during the day if sore. My incisions inch like crazy, which is good because it means they're healing. I did have a 100 degree fever the night I came home, but it hasn't increased and I've been monitoring it just in case. Beside the expected discomfort from the incisions, it is really a rather uneventful recovery. The only challenge so far is sleeping since I cannot use my cpap for two weeks post-op and I've been snoring like a lumber jack! But hopefully that, too, will be a thing of the past. I hope everyone else is recovering nicely! Sent from my SM-S908U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

stalls are very common during weight loss. You'll likely hit several of them along the way. Make sure you're sticking to your program and try to stay off the scale when you hit them. They'll eventually break and you'll be on your way again. Keto "works" right away because carbs hold on to water, so those big drops are water weight (and over time it works because you're taking in fewer calories overall). You're taking in fewer calories NOW, too. The only thing Keto would do would be to let go of water, causing a temporary drop in weight. Water weight doesn't count. Just stick to your clinic's plan. -
I’m a week out from surgery and yes I’m hungry. I had the lapband for 10 years and never once felt hungry. I am still weak feeling. I’m now eating protein shakes, broths, jello, Greek yogurt and I added a scrambled egg. The egg did help. I did read that when you don’t get enough protein you will be hungry. I can’t eat more than I am.

That's really smart. i didn't bother to do that and I should have. I went into my 2 week pre op diet and was completely shell-shocked at how hard it was. I definitely should have started early to get my mind and stomach ready lol -

Get rid of your scales then, ( I too am a daily weigher but I don't class anything as a stall until it's been 4 weeks without any movement. ) the further out you get the slower the movement in the scales I only record my weight once a month now and even though on the daily I don't see much difference I am still loosing a tiny bit each month. -
I wasn’t working when I had my surgery but started a new contract with my old employer - different section - 4 weeks later. I told them I had a surgery & my boss just presumed it was a female surgery so he never asked for more information, which I was amused by & never corrected. The specifics of the surgery are really none of their business & you can say it’s private & you don’t want to talk about it. I just intimated the subsequent weight loss was me deciding to make changes & trying to lose weight to improve my health.

Hello everyone, I’m two months post op and I’m having a lot of trouble getting any food/liquid to stay in my system. I have tried just about everything and nothing seems to sit well with my stomach. From clear protein, protein shakes, jello, beans, soups, and much more. Some days I only get some water in and throw up everything else, other days I can keep down just a tiny bit of the protein. I’ve also tried spacing out my intake and drinking slowly and taking tiny sips or bites but nothing seems to work. I’m starting to get really worried because I’m feeling more nauseous than before. And I’ve recently started to get light headed and almost fainted today. Unfortunately my bariatric doctor is out for the next two weeks. Should I just go to a regular physician or clinic? Will they be able to help? I’m a bit hesitant since I’m so comfortable with my surgeon but I don’t think I should wait two weeks either. I may be overthinking going to another doctor

You just had pretty major surgery lots of things will be a struggle for the first week or so & then while you are healing. It’s not uncommon for people to struggle to get in their protein & water in to begin. Honestly the first three days I wouldn’t have drunk more than a cup of broth total. But as long as you’re making an effort & there is a steady improvement you’ll be ok. And yes, warm drinks are often more soothing & easier to tolerate than cold. Don’t be afraid to use hot water or microwave your shake. I did it with my chocolate one every day. (Some powdered proteins don’t mix well in hot water so heat those after you mix them.) I swear I still can feel cold drinks as they pass all the way down from my mouth to my tummy which will then clench. I spread my meds out across the day too. Not an issue. Helped with some of the nausea from the vitamins too. It does better & easier just give yourself time to heal.

I'm 6 weeks post-op and I'm in Jamaica for a family reunion and we are staying at an all-inclusivehotel for a few days. Some parts of this trip as been hard because I am constantly surrounded by the foods I enjoyed growing up but I am unable to enjoy them now. It also feels awkward to be out eating with the family and having to find the right food to eat only to be full in a few bites. Luckily my family understands and are supportive. It also helps when I can make myself busy with other things like being in the pool. Sent from my SM-G996U using BariatricPal mobile app
