  2. I'm sitting in bed at my home sipping a bottle of Water waiting for my turn in the shower. I'm a mixed bag of emotions- nervous, excited, a little scared... my darling husband (the shower hog) is grumpy today. That's his way of showing me he's nervous. My bag is packed and I'm ready to get this show on the road! I'm second on the list for this afternoon and set for surgery at 3pm. Here's keeping my fingers and toes crossed that my surgeon is able to complete my band to sleeve revision in one operation and that everything runs as smooth as clockwork!

    Surgeon recommends sleeve not bypass

I also have refluxmy surgeon said" what I am seeing is 1/3 of patients will have reflux after the sleeve, however MANY people 4, 5 months after the sleeve procedure are having horrible reflux daily, and want,a revision to bypass". Maybe get another opnion. Sleeve is not good for people with reflux. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

    Surgeon recommends sleeve not bypass

If you have acid reflux now,get the Bypass.I was sleeved in 2011.Then acid reflux struck.Nothing helped.I had revision to bypass on Nov 22,2016.The sleeve makes reflux worse.
  5. Two weeks for me! I had my lapband removed and biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch. I have more of a desk job so it isn't too bad! Katy W- Louisburg, NC Lapband revision to VSG with DS HW- 297 Weight at Surgery-279 CW- will update at two week appt
  6. My surgeon said sleeve not good for me BC if my severe acid reflux issues. Just what mine said. It may have also been in part BC I had band and it slipped and I'm s revision???? Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App
  7. I converted to bypass from sleeve because of severe GERD. Prior to surgery, my Dr. told me I was unlikely to lose any significant weight as a result. And he was right. I've lost a whole 11 lbs in the 6 months since my revision. Sorry I can't give you any additional information about revision for weight loss, but if you have questions about revision in general, feel free to ask.
  8. @@putt0129 And by all means, I don't want anyone to discourage you from a revision if you feel that's what you need. But try going back to what worked before first, and see how it goes? Also, look into 5:2 Intermittent fasting (Google). That worked for a little bit of regain I had. I feel it boosted my metabolism again, along with a new exercise routine. Remember the rules of WLS? Protein first At least 64 oz of no calorie/low calorie fluids Green, non starchy veggies and low sugar fruit like berris Low sugar or white carb consumption (bread, rice, Pasta, etc) No drinking with meals and wait at least 15-20 minutes after you eat to drink again And I feel these rules help: Low processed food consumption. Stay away from anything with 'ingredients' the best you can and stick to fresh stuff. A little fat is good for you! Eat the butter, oil, bacon, mayonnaise, full fat dressings and avocado's along with your fresh food diet. In moderation, of course. It also keeps you satisfied longer. Get at least 10,000 steps a day any way you can. Playing with your dogs or kids, pacing your house in bad weather, a you tube exercise video, join a gym and walk on a treadmill. You don't have to kill yourself with exercise, just move more! Also, find ways to work your muscles.
  9. I think what @@clc9 means is as long as you are following the 'rules' of WLS like you were in the beginning, you should be able to jump start weight loss again. Although in all fairness, it is so much harder to get regain off once it's there, whether it be 5 pounds or 50 pounds. This is something I honestly think newer post ops don't understand, and can't possibly if they haven't been there. If your insurance is willing to pay for a revision, go for it! Just remember, no amount of revisions will help keep the weight off if you aren't following the basic rules of WLS, no matter what the surgery. This unfortunately is a life time commitment, and if we get lax in any area of the commitment, regain (as you know) will easily happen. You kind of had the double whammy of pregnancy and meds, unfortunately. Good luck to you!
  10. I'm in the begining stage of the revision process with United Healthcare. Please keep me posted on your story. I'll be praying for you!!! I know how frustrating it can be, believe me!
  11. I am planning or have been thinking about getting revision surgery done, going from a sleeve to a bypass. Has anyone done it or thought about it Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. I was banded in 2006 but never maintained a weight loss. My band was defective with a hole in it. Unfortunately, I changed jobs and the new insurance would not cover the revision to a new band. So I've had this band in with a little restriction, but no fill. I've lost maybe 10 that stayed off and lost the same 40 pounds over and over via WW, exercise etc. I'm getting the sleeve on Friday, so I can't speak about success yet. I'm hoping this will do it, but I'm just happy to get this band out of my body

    My lap band journey

I visited with the doctors this past week. They are putting into insurance to authorize band removal. I'm so happy about that. I just need to wait 2-4 weeks to hear from them if insurance will approve. Then we will wait 3-6 months for everything to heal and try for revision. Not sure if I will go for a sleeve or bypass yet. One step at a time though. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  15. How did everything go? I'm a band to sleeve revision, and have my consult with him in a few weeks. What does he require before the surgery? How quick is his scheduling? Did you end up using Dr Suh? Did you pay our of pocket or insurance cover it? Can you share your experience with me?
  16. I need my band and plication revised to Gastric bypass. I am self pay, do you recommend anyone in So California? Currently my surgeon is way expensive for a revision, so I'm trying to find a new doctor.

    My lap band journey

Hi Bugaboo, I feel what you are going through. This is the catch about getting the band removed: you either pay for it out of pocket,,,not an option or if your BMI is still high the insurance company will only cover if you have a revision which means they take out the bad and give you a full bypass! But my doctor showed me what needed to be done to remove the band and do the repairs wi h you end up having part of the stomach removed so I'm going to get the full bypass I wish you much luck on your journey! Relatively low BMI results

@@emmapat14 My Dr had explained that it was safer to do a bypass because of my acidity issues. I chose to go with the sleeve because I was very worried about my body's ability to gain nutrition if I had a bypass. Also if the acidity became worse with the sleeve, I could have a revision to a bypass if it became absolutely necessary . I decided to risk that the hiatal hernia repair would get rid of the reflux issues, it was a gamble and i got lucky. Hope that helps, all the best :-) Sent from my SM-G900FD using the BariatricPal App

Complications from advancing diet too soon

No matter how many people get this surgery there are always people who are going to want to do it the softer easier way and that's why they will probably gain back their weight in about five years. Eating things we liked before are what got us this way in the first place, I am surely not looking forward to having surgery just to gain it back or have a revision I'm sorry but it's alot harder to make a complete change in your life and stick to it than it is to ," cheat a little " I for one will stick to the diets and listen to my surgeon because I want my great body back and will never be so ashamed ever to go out in public and the eating food part can kill you if you don't get the surgery or if you do get the surgery and don't follow the instructions like cheating or sneaking food just because you want to satisfy a craving, it's just not worth it to me.

    The Journey has officially begun!

Thank you so much. I know most people aren't happy and excited to go to the doctor but I was. I couldn't even sleep last night. A little weird i know but I just can't wait to have this darn thing taken out and have the revision done. Counting down the days till my next visit. 12 days.....lets get it! Hehe :-) Sent from my SM-J700T using the BariatricPal App
  21. Everything I've read says to date sleeve weight loss is below rny but it wouldn't have been around long enough for longitudinal studies. Band has up to 50% failure and revision rate at 10 years so that may be why it wasn't included with such a small band sample.

    Dry skin...lotions?

Omg. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've had super oily skin all my life and now I'm two weeks post op and need moisturizer. I'm following this to see what others suggest! Katy W- Louisburg, NC Lapband revision to VSG with DS HW- 297 Weight at Surgery-279 CW- will update at two week appt
  23. "I'm not saying that the Sleeve is a bad choice but I know of a few people who have been sleeved and two years later they want a revision and they are trying to get approvals or they are trying to diet like they did post opp and losing the battle." @@danithomas I just wanted to say that most that are successful post surgery do not think of their meals as a diet (other than the first couple weeks of liquid post op) Having WLS of any kind requires diligence around eating a high Protein, lower carb well balanced food plan. For me it got a lot easier when I stopped thinking of my new life as a diet that I had to follow and focused more on the foods that make me feel good, lose or maintain weight and look good. I know that if I though of this as a diet, i personally would fail. I say this because I really was a professional dieter before my RNY. I would go on a diet and lose lots of weight. (80lbs was my biggest loss on Atkins) and then I would go off the plan and start eating what I thought was normal. I literally would gain all of my weight back and then some. Most folks that have been through this have similar stories. For me, the 9 months leading up to surgery were critical. It allowed me to change my thinking and many of my bad habits. Don't get me wrong I still have some bad habits like eating while watching TV or working on my computer. I am so thankful now for that time because it really helped me. That does not mean that I don't get off track because I clearly have. For example I allowed myself to stop tracking my food through the holidays and I gained 7lbs. Now it is taking forever to get that weight back off. It is simply hard to get back on track. Because I am having surgery in 12 days I don't want to try the pouch reset honestly because it will happen then. And of course when you are having plastics they don't want you to make such a drastic change to your food plan right before. If I were not having surgery I would probably use the liquid diet simply to reset myself. When I allow more carbs/sugar into my system, I then begin craving them and therefore eating more of them. So, I know the liquid diet would detox me from that in just a few days. So for now, I am simply back on track by eating my high protein, lower carb diet and reducing any bad carbs that I let in over the holidays. That will allow me to maintain and possibly even lose a bit of weight.
