  1. Mine was a 2 week "full liquid" diet, 1000 calories per day. I was allowed juices, soups, protein shakes, yogurts, sugar-free jello and puddings, that sort of thing. And then for the last 48 hours before surgery, we had to switch to clear liquid only - we were allowed anything you could see through, so it was mostly juice (apple, cranberry, grape, that sort of stuff, nothing like orange), broth (chicken, beef or vegetable), and only clear protein drinks (I got some from Isopure, at my local GNC). The point was to shrink the liver, to make the surgery go better. My surgeon said I did great, that my liver looked really good and that surgery was a breeze (mine was last Thursday).
  2. I am 5.5 months out. Here is a typical day for me: Breakfast - 6oz of Carbmaster yogurt with 1/2 scoop of Any whey Protein powder Snack - 1 or 2 string cheese lunch - 2.5 to 3 oz protein with Del Monte No Sugar Added Peaches Snack - 1/2 Protein Bar or 1 oz Jerky dinner - 2.5 to 3 oz protein with either a few bites of veggies or mashed potatoes Snack (not every night) - 10 mini pretzels or Russel Stover SF peanut brittle I may add a small glass of wine instead of a snack depending on protein intake for the day.
  3. Just got moved to full liquids today!!!! Can not wait to have some cream soup, yogurt, and oatmeal :-)

10 DAYS OUT, THINGS GOING TOO GOOD?

Thanks sarahbee. That's what I was kind of figuring. I just didn't want to be one of those people who feel little restriction. I just ate a 5 oz yogurt and a 3 oz sugar free pudding. I feel pretty stuffed now. I'm now finding out how important it is to eat slow even if I could eat it fast because it does take a little bit to feel full at least in my case.

  6. I'm able to move onto mushy foods tomorrow. I am so scared to. I don't want to get stuck, sick, bust anything....although, I'm excited to move onto something other than broth and jello! What was your first mushy food? I'm looking forward to refried beans with cheese....oh and yogurt, for some reason!

    What did YOU eat today?

Yesterday was fill day, so it was a Protein shake in the morning, and then one lst night before I went to bed. Today is Protein Shake for breakfast - which I couldn't drink until 4 hours later....that's a first! lunch and supper will be creamed Soups and yogurt. This is the first time that after a fill, I have not been able to have my breakfast within 30 minutes of getting up in the morning. I am used to starting my day with coffee, then having my breakfast within a half hour before I head to the Y. Today, no such luck...felt kinda weak at the Y but worked through it.
  9. I am 2 weeks out and am able to eat chicken, tuna, eggs, yogurt, fruit, pretty much anything. I had a bite of a burger today too.

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

I had surgery on the 11th of Feb... 6 days of clear liquids and protein shakes followed by thcker soups, yogurt, cottage cheese and scrambled eggs by day 12 i could manage salad and chicken! Day 13 i went for a fill...2cc. After the fill i was back on liquids for 24 hours, soft foods for another 24 and then back to regular food, eaten slowly and carefully. I'm eating far less, but still a fair amount... yesterday i had scrambled egg, cottage cheese with 3 crackers, a banana, 5 grapes(yes, i counted!), a bowl of lentil and vegetable soup, come rice crisps as a snack and a slice of salami which nearly killed me! everything excluding the salami went down happily...the salami was the cause of extreme pain...i felt like i was having a heart attack! i just dont know how much is too much, Calorically i probably consumed less than 1500 calories, which i believe is an appropriate amount.. what are you all eating???

    Ok, So Yeah...

I was working a job that I had to leave my house at 7 and had an hour drive. Luckily I had the type of job where I could eat at my desk when I got there. I would have greek yogurt; and in a baggie bring the following to mix in: half scoop vanilla whey isolate Protein powder, tsp benefiber, splendra. This makes the yogurt even thicker. In a second baggie I would carry 1/4 cup Kashi Go lean high protein Cereal. This makes for a really thick mushie. Doctors are concerned that someone will have a Protein shake and being liquid be hungry a hour later. Then the person will be tempted to eat that donut because they are starving and it's hours until lunch.

    Ok, So Yeah...

Dr's prefer you to eat your calories not drink them. The band is designed to work with solid food not liquids, however lots of bandsters are too tight to eat in the morning so they have a shake for breakfast. Maybe you could have yogurt instead and he might be happier with that.

    Ok, So Yeah...

maybe just give solids a try for a week or so ? bananas, sliced apple, nuts, yogurt, 1/2 of a protein bar , or my personal favorite , turkey jerkey ! ( high protein, low in fat and calories.)

    Cream Of Wheat

It is interesting with the different diet stages with different doctors. I had my surgery in Mexico and the diet I was advised follows the Vanderbilt sleeve diet. I had a week of clears, a week of full liquids and now a week to three weeks of soft foods such as blended meats/moist, soups, oatmeal and grits or cream of wheat, scrambled or soft eggs and yogurt. I tried my first soft food of Greek yogurt and refriwd beans with a little cheese puréed together. Yummmm! My sleeve tolerated it well.
  15. I eat full fat cottage cheese, mayo, ricotta, etc. I stick to greek yogurt. The low fat versions typically have more carbs and don't taste good. Based on the small amount I eat it has never been a concern.

Please help me with some purée ideas. I don't eat vegetables and am picky with food but I am so sick of pudding, yogurt, cream of wheat, eggs and Mashed potatoes! My doctor said no oatmeal. What else can I have???? Please help.

What Staples Are in Your Pantry?

I keep a good supply of spices and seasonings. Tumeric, garlic powder and cayenne are my most used spices. I also MUST have at least one bottle of sriracha sauce at all times. I either make or buy a jar of garlic paste. Lemon and lime juice are good for adding a touch of brightness to foods. Condiment wise I keep regular mayo, but actually prefer the Just Mayo, pickles, salsa, red chili sauce, Braggs apple cider vinegar, good olive oil and coconut oil. I also have red quinoa, organic black Beans, rolled oats, flax powder and TVP at the ready. In the fridge I always have eggs, finely shredded cheese, FAGE 0% Greek yogurt. I also keep a few cans of Progresso Soups on hand for when I am too lay to make my own. In the freezer, I keep frozen spinach. I wait for Acme's 10 for $10 sales and stock up. Perfect for adding to soups or tossing in a Protein drink. I try to eat as cleanly as possible so I don't buy foods containing red dyes, artificial sugars. Stevia is an allergy trigger so I don't buy anything that contains that. I keep processed foods at the bare minimum. I don't buy any diet foods at all. I'd rather do without or eat less of something than eat a bunch of man made chemicals. I try to cook from scratch and do a weekly food prep on Sunday's.
  20. hmm...i am probably not one of those that looks like I'm getting too few calories, but I do get in all my Protein. That's really my main focus for the most part. I remember thinking what you do. I would see some people's diaries on my phone and I wonder how they got the protein in. But then I look at the same people's diaries on the computer where you can see all the macronutrients, and I realize that many of them are getting in significant chunks of protein. One of my friends there puts in espresso coffee (you know who you are puresouthernsoul!) and it looks like nothing right? Cofffee?? But that's her recipe for something that has greek yogurt, coffee, and a scoop of Protein powder, so the label is a bit misleading. Wonder if some of that is happening with you? Do look at the diaries on the computer and you can see how the protein gms add up.

i am not eating to much protein a day

I was told that lack of protein would slow weightloss. Buy a flavorless protein powder and mix it into Fair Life brand milk. Fair Life brand milk has 13g of protein in one cup. And lower sugar. Or you can mix the protein powder into yogurt. Some brands have low sugar yogurt (I avoid the diet sugar yogurts because I hate the taste now). Your food portion should be tiny right now I think 1/4 cup so use a measuring cup to keep the portion controlled until you heal. If you cant tolerate milk you can even add protein powder to water. For sure drink more water so you can flush out the fat. Also, stalls and long stalls are normal just focus on healing and nourishing yourself.

    Not eating enough...

I'm back on 2 a day of the shakes, the caramel, I have to hold my nose so I don't smell them but after a couple of days, I got used to them again. Between that, coffee in the morning, a Propel water when I work out, and a Swell bottle full of water with Crystal light, I'm doing much better. Going to the bathroom a lot, which is good, because, for a while, I didn't go at all. (And I know, you have to pee to lose weight...) That is probably the bulk of my stall. Plus I get the 60g of protein and I have some chicken breast too, and a yogurt. I'm not weighing myself, going to give it a break, but I'm thinking I've kicked the stall's ass.

    Day 3

Well it's day 3 and I'm feeling better as the days go on. I'm finally getting more food into me. I never thought I would drink skim milk but it's not that bad. I'm sticking to 2 cups of milk, jello, yogurt, broth and water for now. I just try to get it down as I can through the day. I woke up hungry this morning for the first time.

What was your Christmas meal like?

Great topic I'm in charge of cooking so I got to plan everything out and make it VSG friendly Christmas Eve I made a noodlesless lasagna. Used eggplant for the layers and layered with sauce, ricotta, cheese and ground turkey. It was great and was a cross between eggplant parm and lasagna. I made shrimp scampi with it (didn't use real butter- margarine instead, lemon, a splash of wine. I only had a tiny bit of both. For dessert I made pumpkin yogurt panna cotta. Awesome, healthy and good amounts of Protein. And no sugar in it (made with stevia) Christmas Day we had Turkey, I made a small think of stuffing (I didn't really want it but my mother did) so I made it from scratch, used whole wheat bread and added ground turkey. I made a Rachael Ray version of 'stuffin muffins'. She basically put the stuffing in a cupcake pan. Perfect serving size! (I only had a tiny tiny taste of it, but still perfect servings for my guests- maybe they won't overeat if I portion it out for them too lol) also made roasted sweet potatoes and brussle sprouts with balsamic vinegar. I only ate a few sprout halves. And For dessert- skinny cheesecake with strawberries. Low carb, no crust and made in a cupcake pan so perfect portions. The food was well received also, healthy and great. Ill attach a few pics of my Christmas Eve dinner. I forgot to take pics of the Christmas Day stuff lol.
