  1. I dont know of any body shaper that will permenantly change your shape. After you get to a normal weight you may look into cosmetic surgery but I am betting you find your shape to be just fine. I thought I would always have a butt..fat or thin...... But after losing 224 lbs it is flatter than I could have imagined. Just be patient and speak to a trainer about how to lose belly fat which may speed things along. Good luck
  2. Has anyone noticed if there attitude changed since surgery I here when most women get close to there goal weight they attitude change and they start feeling themselves and stuff Is this true I don't think my attitude would be conceited or cocky I think I would value myself more tho
  3. Tons of questions and concerns come up before and after weight loss surgery. When should I start my pre-op diet? Can I eat this brand of Protein powder? What happens if I feel nauseous? When can I start lifting weights again? Some of the questions aren’t urgent, but sometimes you feel like you need an answer ASAP. If you’re wondering whether a particular brand of Protein shake is okay for dinner, you want an answer fast. Same with a medical concern, like low blood pressure or shakiness, since you don’t know if it’s something serious to worry about. So, who’s on your call list? Whom do you go to when you have urgent questions? Is it your surgeon? Your primary care doctor? A friend who’s had weight loss surgery? BariatricPal? Does your answer change if it’s a weekend versus a weekday? Where do you go for help and information when you need it?
  4. Hi I just had the procedure 12/15 and things have been going great so far. Its a lot to adjust to but I'm feeling pretty positive about starting this new chapter for 2017! My question is about people's calorie and nutrient goals to maximize weight loss. I was only given a Protein goal (70grams) to hit, told to drink enough each day and warned about not eating more then a certain amount etc. But I wasn't given any thoughts about caloric numbers I should be hitting or carb or fat goals. I'm using Myfitnesspal to track everything and they use these and I don't know what I should put those figures at. Would love to know what other people where told or what they have done that has helped them lose weight and feel energetic at the same time. I want to make the most of this chance!

    Had a panic attack

Wow...if that doesn't hit close to home...I have been approved for the surgery and was supposed to have it back in January...I was SO nervous...I had pondered, prayed and asked everyone (family, friends, my psych) under the sun if I was doing the right thing...My surgery was scheduled for Monday and on Saturday, I ended up getting carpet cleaner in my eye and scratching my eye and then on Sunday, my surgeon called me and told me he was stuck out of town and would not be able to perform my surgery on Monday so I took that as maybe, these are signs that I am NOT meant to have this surgery... I took a month to think and try to lose weight on my own and finally decided it was probably just my nerves...I decided to have the surgery again...I rescheduled it for March 21. The week of my surgery, my children and I all got the Flu... My biggest fear, is that I will have the surgery and it won't work for me...That I will still use food as a comfort. This is something I am really on the fence about. I wish I had an answer for you...but I can't even decide if this is what is meant for me...sorry...

    weight gain

Hopeful to be slim, You are gaining muscle. Muscle weighs heavier than fat. You need to do some of this because muscle burns fat. So don't be surprised after you have done strength training that the numbers are higher. It will come right off later as your exercise ended and your body continue to burn calories. It's a good thing. Good for you!
  7. My brother had bypass with Dr. Ismael Cabrera in August 2015. He has since lost about 80 pounds and hit his target weight! The procedure went flawlessly and my brother highly recommends Dr. Ismael Cabrera. What stood out to me the most was the quality assurance that was made with the x-ray to assure my brother there was indeed a new smaller stomach that did not leak. I did all the research on his behalf and am beyond thrilled that everything worked out best case senecio. I would do my sleeve with Dr. Ismael Cabrera however when I called to find out more info I was told prices just went up and they weren't able to get me a deal to get the price back down. Must not want my repeat business because lots of other surgeons are less expense. Guess that's the only downside I could find with Dr. Ismael Cabrera.
  8. Newbie here and this is my first post. I am 50 years old and had my first consultation visit today. I've contemplated WLS for several years, but always talked myself out of taking the first step. This was partially my mentality "others lose weight on their own, why can't it?", and partially because I just didn't have the family support I knew I needed, and partially because I was a single mother trying to raise to children and working full time. I now know that I have tried numerous times to lose weight on my own and have lost some, but then I gain it back plus. You know, the old yo-yo dieting thing. My family is now being supportive for the most part, there are still some who are not on the band wagon with me, but that is their problem, not mine. And finally, my kids are basically grown, one is still at home, but old enough to realize I'm doing something for ME for a change. As I said I had my first consultation visit today, and I'm very excited. It was all good news!! My insurance should cover the surgery with no problems. My physician requires that I get a psych eval., a nutrition consult, a letter from my primary care doctor that he recommends the surgery, and 3 multi-disciplinary classes. If things go good, I could have a surgery date by the end of June - mid-July!! I work for a school district and this time frame is important as I want to have surgery during the summer. Plus I've been told that TRS is changing insurance companies effective September 1, and the new company requires a 3 month wait time. The down side of everything today, is finding out my financial portion of the surgery. Because of my deductible, and co-pay I'm responsible for paying over $2,000, just to my surgeon. That does not include the psych eval., nutrition consult, getting a PCP to write the recommendation letter, and hospital!! So much more than what I anticipated, and it all has to be paid BEFORE surgery will be done!! Well, that's my story...and I'm sticking to it..lol. Any advise, tips, words of encouragement will be greatly appreciated!! Happy Friday to everyone and I look forward to making any and all acquaintances.
  9. I’m a type 1 diabetic. I am scheduled to have my surgery done on the 13th of this month. I am having the gastric bypass done with Dr Lytle in Atlanta. My CW is 228 and I’m doing this for the benefit of reducing my insulin intake and losing this unwanted weight. Does anyone have any insight for me? Did this actually reduce your insulin intake? Also I’m on the minimed 670g system. Should help prevent them from needing to check my sugar at weird times of the night. Thanks in advance!!

    tricare prime north region

sounds like a plan. if they give me any guff i'll just say show me the instruction (er, uh i mean, show me in writing :-) ) I dont do well at all with this wishy washy stuff and just want a clear cut/ black and white list. I know based on the current weight guidelines that I just by the hair of my chin qualify, and with the new rules coming soon I well fall into that too. I look forward to the appt with them to get it all submitted. By the way, does Tricare want all of the labs and such done before approval or just have it done before surgery?

    Pre op nerves

You have a much greater of chance of dying if you are obese and don't lose weight. I am 7 months out. It's a brand new world. I wish I had done this years ago!
  12. Looking for local support groups to attend. I'm being sleeved by Dr Walton at Weight Wise in Edmond but it's hard driving there twice a month for both appts and support group. So, looking for support group in or around Tulsa. Won't be sleeved till August.
  13. First...step away from the scale. Now, take a deep breath. Now I am going to share my deepest wisdom, gonna get all zen here. It will be what it will be....You cannot force things to change when they won't. You have had the surgery. You are working the plan worked out for you by your surgeon and NUT. That is it. That is all there is and needs to be. Your body will decide when it is ready to let go of the weight. There will be times of great loss, followed by times of nothingness. Your body is in metamorphosis and it is a stop and start journey. I too weigh every day, so I can't and won't chastise that. But remember you are new to this. I too went through a stall...I lost 13 lbs in less than two weeks post op. Then I didn't drop another pound for over two weeks. It was hard to deal with. As the days wore on my mental resolve wavered. I knew the statistics in my head, but that didn't help the feelings I was not going to succeed this time from sneaking in. But then suddenly, at about 33 days post op two things happened. I hit the 50lb mark. From the very start of my journey I have lost over 50lbs. I have never accomplished that before since I became obese. Then another fact hit me. I had dropped 4lbs on 3 days. Two more pounds the day after that! The stall has broke. How long or how much I will drop until it stalls again I do not know. But I know I am doing this. I am losing weight. I will succeed. There will be times that will test my resolve greatly, but I will get through it. My advice to you is to try to remember the same. You WILL get through this!

    Got approved!

I did 6 months of class for weight management. I done with everything. I only have my medical clearance appt and that's it on Jan 6. My surgery is on Jan 30th. I will find out if approved once they turn in everything to the insurance company after my Jan 6 th appt. It's been a 5 month process thus far since my 1st appt in August but it went by so quick . To think my surgery is in 39 days . I know I will be approved b/c of my BMI and my co - morbities- high blood pressure, beginning level of diabetes and minor heart disease. Sent from my SM-J700T using the BariatricPal App

    Need some help please

Hi Sherry, I really feel for you. Maybe instead of going in for a fill, you should make an appointment just to talk with your doctor. I would explain the situation to him to see what he can do for you. I know that you are worried about having fills left for later but if you are not losing weight steadily now, it will not get better later. I found with my doctor that I can talk with him and he can work around the rules. You just need to make sure that the band is working optimally for you. Your doctor should also want you to succeed as well. Best of luck. Helen
  17. LOL, I have not had any dreams like that but I think I would like to! Great job on your weight loss and go have a bite of cake!

    I am so happy!

wow lucky you get your sleep study done just because you will feel so much better. Hope everything goes well for you. Double check all of the insurance requirements most still require a period of medically supervised weight loss. Good luck to you!

    I am so happy!

I have United Healthcare. Can anyone tell me there experiences with this company? I have the PPO plan. I talked to them and they seemed really nice and helpful. Also the lady says my plan does not require a weight history.
  22. Hello... My pre-op diet consists of three Meal Replacements and one meal of lean protein/veg....all of which should not go over 1,000 calories a day. I've been doing it since 10/14...and it's been a real biatch, but worth it since I've been losing weight. I'll find out tomorrow if UHC has approved my surgery....I'm hoping they do, because I really don't want to have to do this pre-op diet twice.

    Post Op weight loss

@@LauraLei101 The diet progression was fine. I knew the stages were temporary until the food stage. My dietician has modified my diet a bit to add healthy carbs to stabilize my blood sugar. My biggest challenge....I think getting out of the honeymoon stage and hitting reality. At first the weight came off pretty easy. I got to relaxed and comfortable. I woke up. I had great input on this sight as well as my local support groups. I know that I will only get out of this surgery what I put into it. Wow you're surgery is right around the corner. I'm excited for you. The journey begins:)

    No Weight Loss?

I'm frustrated too. I am 3 weeks out and have only lost 5 lbs. I would have thought twice about the surgery if I had known that the weight loss would be so very slow. I could have lost more than 5 lbs without surgery!
  25. Sherrie Scharbrough

    5 weeks out

I know exactly what you are going thru. I had Stricters and had 5Endoscopes with 4 Dialations. Which started around my 4 th week. I had probelems in Nov 2013, Dec 2013, Jan 2014 July 2114 with my last one on Jan 2015. I was exactly like you I couldn't hold even water down. I took my sleeping pill and I was up all night throwing up. That morning I threw up that pill and it had never gone down at all. I also lost from 249 to 117#'s within 6 months!! The good thing is it is a easy fix. You take a sweet little nap and wake up it will be done. My Dr told me not to make any major decisions or sign anything for the 1st 24hours. LOL I did gain back 8#'s after I could eat and drink. But I still weigh 125#'s and have maintained that weight for 3 and 1/2 years. Take care of you!! Good Luck on your journey. Keep us posted.
