  1. I'm so sorry this is going to sound gross but I had surgery Thursday 10/24 today is Monday and I have watery diarrhea every since saturday night. I have no fever but sometimes fell flushed. I can walk around and I can drink Water and Protein shakes (started those today) without problem. The only concern was the watery bm. Anyone else go through this if so how long did it last

    Newbie from Houston

Hello, I am new to the Forum. I was banded 3/10/06 and today was my post-op appt. No problems thus far. Tomorrow I get to start mushies. Weighed in today at 192. Incisions were pretty itchy last week but no longer. Sleeping on my side again too. Have been eating soup and protein shakes. I love the protein shakes with Carb Countdown dairy beverage. I think I'll keep drinking them. I have craved pizza and chinese food, I must confess! I'm trying hard to think of the band as my friend now instead of food. Good luck to all of you. This forum has been a wealth of info and support.
  3. I will be 4 weeks out on Monday 12/16 with the 18th being the official one month postop day. I'm still experiencing some discomfort on my right side where my sleeve was done. Sometimes there is mild pain. Even though I take my vitamin and drink karma water, I still get tired quickly. My 4 week postop appointment is Tuesday so I can't wait to see what the doctor has to say. I am down three bra sizes and can wear at least one pair of my size 10 pants. I haven't tried any others yet but it's progress nonetheless.

    Hobbies

Before you buy one, see if there is a place you can rent one and try it out first. We have a place near where I am and it’s $16 a day. Not bad if you get there at 10 when they open and turn it in right before they close at 6- we ride to downtown and back- 7 miles one way.... mostly flat. Still need to lose weight before I can go again.

    I'm exhausted

It may be mental, because it is a scary process that may have you more upset than you think you are. I remember being very nervous, especially about my husband who had so many co-morbidities. Hang in there! The surgery and recovery was 10 times easier than we anticipated. I feel 20 years younger with 60 lbs. gone. I promise it will get better!

    How did you quit smoking?

I quit Jan. 3, 2011 after smoking two packs a day for 32 years. When I was younger and went out drinking, I smoked more sometimes. I signed on to Quit.net and they send you an anniversary email each month. The Quit Smoking Calculator gives the amount you would have smoked, the time you've extended your life, and the money saved. On Oct. 3rd, my 10 month quit date, I had not smoked 10, 872 cigarettes! OMG! I was shocked! I had smoked millions in my lifetime! I bought one 10 ct box of nicorette gum, just to get me through the first three days. It does burn, but it helped. There have been a few stessful times I thought about having a cigarette, but nothing I couldn't control by simply changing my thoughts. I did try the Chantix six years ago, but got terrible arthritis in one week. My fingers were swollen and I could barely walk. I am one of thousands of people who cannot take Chantix. It has several health risks so be sure and read the side effects.
  7. Well, got banded today. First, I want to thank this site. I've been reading for months and felt I was very prepared. I'm not a surgery guy - nothing since tonsils at age 7. Made the decision after many years of contemplating it (what larger person hasn't). Have several people who have been thru it who I trusted and complete faith in my Dr. Result - I was not the least bit apprehensive or had any anxiety except for a minute upon first entering operating room. Dr. said liver looked good, no blood loss, no hernias needing repair. I think I have five bandages across my stomach and one centered above (heart shaped bandage -where they inserted the air?) Checked in at 8:30 this morning. Surgery at 10. Woke up at 11:00. In recovery room at 11:05. Discharged at 1:30 and home at 3:30. No pain so far, no discomfort really. Throat is a bit scruffy from tube and abdomen is sensitive at most. Started with ice chips, Water. Just had some onion Soup broth. Plan on going for short walk. Plan is to go back to work on Tuesday -- we'll see Truly feel this is the first day of the rest of my life! I'm totally prepared and committed (wouldn't have been 5 or even 2 years ago). I thank everyone who allowed me to read their experiences. I've been reading posts just about every night since January. This site has far and away been the most useful. Lucky, too, to have supportive family and just a few others I've confided in. I know there'll be bumps -- but day one far and away better than expected. Oh, even lost 11 pounds last two weeks!

    It's time

Alright... time for an update. I'm 3 days out from my surgery. My surgery was done on 10/10/11 at 7:30-8 in the morning. We arrived at the hospital at 6 and went through the final registration paperwork. I was in my pre-op room by 6:15. The pre-op room consisted of getting an IV line inserted several different medicines administered as well as getting a shot for nausea in my stomach. I met with the Surgeon and the Anesthesiologist right before heading to the OR. Once in the OR, I was quickly put asleep. I woke up in the recovery room (sorry, not a clue what time) in minor discomfort and headed to my room shortly after. I spent Monday and Tuesday there and was sent home on Wednesday around noon. I have a drain installed that will be removed next week. I didn't experience very much discomfort or pain and barely used my morphine button and when I did, it was to help me sleep. While at home, I'm doing pretty well, but occasionally get some serious gas pains....they don't last long, but they are there. I have not yet weighed myself, but plan to do that on Sunday at the end of my clear liquid diet. Something else I almost forgot to mention is that I asked my Surgeon it I could see the stomach removed from me and he told me no, it is sent off to labs for testing. So then I asked if it was possible to take a picture of what was removed. He was a little surprised by that and told me that he'd see what he could do. He presented me with an 8x10 photo that contained 4 images, 1 of the stomach pre-stapled, one post stapled, one of it being removed and lastly, the excised stomach. Pretty gruesome stuff. Stay tuned........

    6 months doc diet.....start!

I'm sure the 100 lbs is after wls. I was told I need to lose 10% of the total I need to lose before surgery. I need to lose 90-100 lbs so 9-10 lbs. That won't be a problem during my 2 week liquid diet.....

    Had my drain removed today

During surgery they placed a tube in my stomach through an incision that attaches to a plastic little bottle that collects blood/liquid. I had to keep the drain attached to me for 10 days. Im surprised you didn't have it at all. Some have it removed at the hospital. It was annoying to hide this bottle under my clothes and I couldn't sleep on my stomach or side. Im glad it's out!
  12. Hi All, So excited to have found this site! I am 4 days PO and am begining to feel better, was sleeved at Madigan Army Medical Center, Ft Lewis, WA. I was having a weird sensation evertime I drank, kind of like bubbles coming back up but that sensation has passed and now when I drink about 2-3 mins later I get a pain mid-low center chest?? I am taking very small sips. According to my Dr I am able to start full liquids today so I had a few bites of vanilla pudding with some protien powder mixed in, also had about 3 ozs of chocolate slimfast. I am not physically feeling hunger but the smell of food makes me miss it terribly. Anyone have this pain I am talking about?? It passes quickly but just uncomfortable for a minute or so.

    Surgery Cancelled

My surgery date was August 7, 2006 but now it is cancelled.:cry I got a call on Friday morning at 11am stating the doctor was not feeling well. They are gonna try to reschedule my surgery but they don't know when. Maybe August 10 or 11, or maybe August 28, 2006. I am so disappointed. I finally came to turns with the surgery and now this. I am self pay so I have paid the surgeron and just this morning I went and got the cashier's check for the surgery center. Now no surgery date. I have a $9200.00 cashier's check made out to the surgery center and I don't even no when or if I will get to have the surgery. I made all the arrangements for work and now this. I am on call 24 hours a day Monday thur Friday and every 3rd weekend so this has really messed my schedule up. I don't know if I will be able to find some to cover for me because they may have vacations planned. I am also on schedule to be on call the Labor Day Weekend :cry . I will have to wait until Monday to find out when they will be able to do surgery. I know they couldn't help this but I just had everything in place for Mondayk. Plus I have travel plans to Las Vegas on September 28, 2006 and I was hoping to be healed and eating by then:mad: So now I must wait on the surgeon's office to call and let me know if it will be August 10 or 11 or August 28. If it is August 28 I will have to make a decision to have or not to have.
  14. My husband and I are getting the sleeve. My husband is a diabetic and he takes fast acting 10 units 3x and slow acting insulin at bed time and also metformin 1000mgs 2x daily. He weighs 277 and is 26 years old. Has anyone had to take meds like this before surgery and if so are you still on any med after surgery

1 week banded and doing well

It’s my first week banded, I think am doing well I have lost 10 pounds since last Monday the 4 august my band – anniversary and I am happy about it. Tomorrow will be my first day going to the gym since I got banded. Am not expecting to be back to my to my old self before I got banded but I will go and try to exercise for 30 minutes and see how it goes. I am happy so far, I currently have no big pain. Except the fact that my surgeon out my port right underneath my breast so needless to say wearing a bra for now hurt like hell. To honest it’s sometimes hard even at one week after the band I find myself having cravings. Like today I decided I was going to grill a little BBQ for my fiancé. Everything went very well until I started craving hot dogs and hamburger. It just became clear to me at that time that I would struggle all my like with my food addiction and I have to take it day by day. :biggrin2:
  17. Hi everyone - I remember in my pre-op research that ibuprophen was a strict no-no with Gastric Bypass. However, I don't remember what the rules are for us sleeved folks. I know that I had to be off it for 10 days prior to surgery, but now that I'm 2 weeks post-op, can I take it? Thanks for any thoughts.

    Soda

Carbonation is not recommended for those with the band. My understanding is that it can cause the new "pouch" to expand and/or the band to slip. However, I still have not been able to kick the habit - drink soda every day. *cringing* I've been banded 19 mos and did well in the beginning staying away from soda - then old habits creeped back up and caught me! Still working on kicking the habit once and for all. Some banders cannot tolerate carbonation - unfortunately, I can; however, that doesn't mean that my band or pouch is going to be able to tolerate it forever.

    BMI

And with that, I really don't need to say much more... Hahaa!! Anyway, I've said a million times that I'll never be in the healthy range according to my BMI. I really don't plan to lose more than 10 or 15 more Lbs at this point. If that keeps me in "overweight" ... oh well. I know I'm healthier today than I have ever been in my life and I can do more physically than folks 10 years younger than me!!! I'm totally ok with that.
  20. <p>Hi, my name is Gigee and I'm new to lapbandtalk.com. I'm so glad there are so many of us out there. I joined the band on September 14, 2007. Everything went extremely well. I did not have any after surgery pain. My recovery was swift (my husband and boys took great care of me). I went to work a week after the surgery. I could have gone back sooner but I was having so much fun being pampered and spoiled by my hubby and kids. My first post-op doctor visit was on 10/25. I lost a total of 17 1/2 lb. It would have taken me at least 8 weeks to lose that much weight without the band. My first fill is on Tuesday 10/30. I've declared September 14, 2007 my re-birthday. I'm going to Celebrate it every year. I can't wait to watch as the new me emerges.</p> TickerFactory.com <a href="Weight Loss - Diet Ticker"> <img border="0" src="<A href="http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/wGBlODJ/weight.png"></a">http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/wGBlODJ/weight.png"></a>

    Sororities and being stuck

I have lost almost 150 lbs since my surgery in May. However, I still have 10 lbs to goal wrought and can't seem to lose it! Also, I'm in a sorority where all we do is eat and drink. It's really hard to stay on track when my sisters make me feel I have to eat and drink when I'm with them. Also, it frustrates me that I have 10 lbs to goal weight and I want to lose 10 extra on top of that, and people say they I don't need to lose any more weight.

    To All Business Owners

Delarla - you & I could seriously talk!! I ran a thriving, successful business with The Pampered Chef for 10 years. As I'm sure you know, The Pampered Chef is a part of the Direct Sales business just like Slumber Parties. I quit my full-time job to do Pampered Chef full-time & it was the BEST decision I ever made. I moved up to a Senior Sales Director & my team led in Sales & Recruiting for a very long time. I had over 400 in my over-all downline. I was the area trainer & developed a total of 12 Directors under me & I taught them to train their teams. I had several consultants under me who were #1 in the company!! I earned the Top Performance Award several years in a row for Recruiting & Sales & got all the jewelry, prizes & all the fun stuff you told us about at your recent Conference. I've been on every trip you can imagine!! I was making quite a good income too!! Direct Sales is a great way to go & I applaud you for deciding to leave your Paralegal job & take this on. There's lots of work a head of you but it is so worth it!! You'll take a drop in pay the first year, but if you really kick it in gear, you'll make it straight to the top!!!! 6 months ago I retired from The Pampered Chef & gave up my title, BIG pay-check & my large down-line. Everything moved up to my Up-line Director. It was a hard decision to make, & I still miss everything about it. But, I have 3 little kids who desperately needed a mother who was THERE for them. Several people thought I had lost my mind & I've been criticized for my decision, but I knew that no amount of money could take the place of my kids. :phanvan It was the right decision for me!! But boy, do I miss the MONEY!!!! I have helped a lot of people in my area who want help in starting a Direct Sales business. I have lots of tips on managing a team & helping them RECRUIT!! If you are serious about wanting some help, I'd be happy to help you. We can talk about payment!! Maybe you could pay me in products!! WAHOO!! (My husband would love that!!)

    Stupid Carb Question.

I don't really count my carbs. Here's the rule I was taught. One gram of Protein for every ten calories you eat. Divide the rest of the calories you eat into a relatively even number of low glycemic carbs (green veggies) and healthy fats (nuts, avocado). So, for a 600 calorie a day diet, that would mean 60 grams of protein, 28 grams of carbs and 28 grams of fat (approximately, I'm doing the math in my head). For 800 calorie a day diet, it's 80 grams of protein and 38 carbs and 38 fats. With that formula, and eating the right carbs (not starches) you can't go wrong. You will have enough protein but also enough energy to get you through the day. I tend to overshoot the protein by 10% or so. But I have been lifting weights so I need more. Again, this is just the strategy that I follow and it has worked well, there are certainly other ways.

    Prepared for new life?

Every surgery has risks. I Read all the bad outcomes. But thought it was a good choice for me to go ahead with surgery. I worried till I got to the hospital. The Drs and nurses were fabulous. I talked to my anesthesiologist till I don't remember. I woke up and it was done. The first 2 days I had diarrhea. Of course I read that some people have it forever. But just like my info packet said I might have it for 2 days is gone and I'm fine. Everyday gets easier. I wAs mad reading all the posts that people felt great from day 1 after surgery. I was nauseous a lot the first few days. But I'm 12 days out and doing fine. I too wish I did it 10 years ago. But better late than never. Do what your heart tells you. Don't over think it. Just think what life will be like in 3 months. 6 months etc. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
