    Miserable 5 days post op

Oh, I am so sorry you have so much on your plate! 19 month olds are hard work when we are healthy never mind post op and being kicked out lovely no wonder you feel so awful! Any way you can resolve things with your mum? Or even get some social help?
  4. I plateau’d in week 3 for 10 whole days! But I am not discouraged, my body needs time to figure out what is going on. And, I had bypass surgery. I lost 20lbs in the first 2 weeks and 3lbs in the second 2 weeks. Since I am only in week 4 I can’t truly answer your question. Just don’t get discouraged

    Feeling hungry

I had my surgery on 8/28/19. My second week I believe I was feeling hungry for a couple of days. My two daughters had surgery last year and they said I was having head hunger. Whatever. Sent from my Lenovo TAB 2 A8-50F using BariatricPal mobile app

    Weight Loss Seminar

I think it may depend on insurance and your doctor's requirements. I wasn't required to attend a seminar, however, my doctor does host a monthly seminar and I attended by choice. I was only required to be on a doctor's supervised diet for 6 months and to see a nutritionist twice and a psych doctor once. I also had to have clearance from my primary. Good luck to you!! 10. I had gastric sleeve on 8/20/19. Every now and then i feel like im hungry. Or at least my brain is telling me i am. Has anyone else felt that way? Sorry i am new here. Thank you. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. Thanks Kathy! My sleeve did well for 10 years. I've had a time with BCBS not even wanting to cover my Hiatal Hernia. I think the Hernia is what caused all my problems it was pushing 1/3 of my stomach into my chest cavity. My esophagus was damaged as well as my diaphragm. I actually had to have internal plastic surgery done on the diaphragm. My surgeon was hoping that once my esophagus settled down because it was extremely inflamed that I would get better, but it hasn't. He said it should be fine now and since I'm still having problems I had to go through all the test again and now my sleeve has developed a little pocket that my food gets stopped up in. When it gets too full I have spontaneous reflux. I know my commercial insurance will definitely not pay, but when my Medicare goes in effect I'm going ahead with the procedure. I don't have a choice. My surgeon said I need it to sustain life. If it doesn't cover it, I will probably hire an attorney and fight them on it. Right now I don't have the energy to do anything. Hopefully, all will go well. Thanks!

    Miserable 5 days post op

Doesn’t help my mentally Abusive mother kicked me out and I’m stuck staying with an ex as of this morning. I’m on antidepressiants but feeling hopless. Thanks to all the kind people. Just really depressed and in pain. Doesn’t help I’m taking care of an 19 month old alone.

    One week post op, ugh

Hang in there! The first couple weeks are rough, but each day gets a little better. I am 19 days out. Don't hurt most days, but then I do something and the main incision site hurts bad. Rest and it goes away. I think I am having more back pain from protecting my abdomen than anything else. And my energy level still stinks, but steadily improving. Keep working to improve your fluid intake and moving around.
  14. 19 days post op. Since May 20, I have lost 33.8 pounds. I can already start my abdomen is less bloated, although I haven't quite yet dropped a pants size yet. My clothes are looser, but when I go down a size they are still too snug. But... this morning I put on the flip flop style sandals that I have been wearing for about 6 months regularly and they are TOO BIG! They are totally too loose and I could easily go down at least half a size in them. I am so glad this happened today, because I was getting ready to buy a new pair of walking shoes. When I am heavy I wear an 8.5, but when I am skinny I wear 7.5-8 (that is where I was 8 years ago). I will probably have to go with an 8 today since I am not down to my 7.5 size yet. Anyhow, it is those little victories that get us through this, right?
  15. I am only two months Post surgery and Since I paid cash did not have to deal with any of the Bullshit you guys did with insurance. I also have a brother 3 months ahead of me so between the two of us we got experience. To put this in perspective I got as confused and buffeted as you guys are on this site. My doctor had support groups and books and flyers and found it all to be one big jumble of a mess that was not easy to understand and Since I am a typical Male - Give me a damn list and i will follow it. So I went a different route and hired a Nutritionist in my area, one that specializes in Medical diets like for cancer! Here is the program that we got calibrated in under two weeks. Not going to give you the fluff just the program - 1. Forget Food - Food is a luxury and to painful to eat and to think you have to eat enough to meet your requirements - My view Screw food - 2. Get a Blood work up from a local lab - Full work up will tell you all your vitamin levels as you currently are - you have a baseline to work off 3. First few weeks are recovery - My view Survive, It sucks! 4. Now its time to set the Nutrition plan - 15 days after surgery 5. Protein shakes from Sams are key, Be careful some shakes are loaded with Carbs and sugar, Sams has the cheapest and the best for you. - FYI I hate protien shakes but trust me this will make your life a lot easier. - Here is my recipe but you need to set your own levels ------3/4 Protein shake, w/ 1 scoop of whey protein, Ice, GNC 50 plus vitamin Powder, Nutricost Pure D-Ribose Powder (250 Grams) , frozen fruit, 2 tablespoons yogurt, and two sugars. i drink a 8oz every morning by 10 am - You will be full of energy - 1/2 Nutrition vit and min. and No way you are hungry. ----- Twice a day i take the following pills - GNC multi vitamin and Cardio vit and Bariatric Vitamin. Around 1:00 and 3:00 - ---- Twice a day i Take a vegetable blend drink with Kale and other nutrients and mixes - I buy the pre made from Sams. That is pretty much it for me every day for the last few months - I don't need any food because i have exceeded my vit and nutrients for the day and the protein. Eating is to much of a pain in the ass to me, Hurts, and Just not worth it, I was going every week for a blood work up - after 5 days of above my levels were perfect, You will feel the difference and energy level will sky rocket! Most of the issues are mental, and i fully understand - But once you plow thru the head games and get calibrated - life is way better! Best decision i ever did
  16. Hello you all! I see a few faces out there that I knew many years ago here. I used to be a host, and even got an award for most followed post! Its been a while. I first joined this forum in 2010. My pic shows me with red hair… its white now! I had a VSG in January of 2011. I entered this plan as a vegetarian, and maintained that status until about a year ago when I upped my game to Vegan eating (Did you know you can drink Coke and eat Oreos and still be vegan?). 7 weeks ago I upped it again and I follow a Whole Food Plant Based diet. It is also vegan eating, but cuts out not only meat and dairy, but any highly refined product including oils, refined sugar, white flour and rice, you get the picture. It is high Carb and low fat. It took me about two years after surgery to get about 65 pounds off (I only had 80-90 to lose) and then started to gain. I gained about 20, trying different diet changes along the way… then started using the 5/2 semi fasting method, and lost the rest in the following year eating an average of 1000 cal a day. So it took me three years to get to goal. Loved it. At last, I felt like the person in the mirror was me. That didn't last long. Slowly, over years, I gained much of the weight back. Eating less didn’t work like it had. I did eat more crap, but much of the time was on calorie counting staying under 1200 cals without much success. I got up to between 20-30 pounds under my highest weight, and managed to keep that much off for the last 8 years. This is a success. I have never been able to do that before. I can eat less, my stomach allows for much more food than it did the two years after surgery, but it still can give me a full signal faster than before surgery. This is a win. I am not sorry I got the surgery. In April of this year (2019) I found out I had breast cancer. In a whirlwind, I went to a ton of appointments and ended up quickly in surgery for a lumpectomy with 2 nodes removed, then a month of daily radiation. I am lucky to have caught it early, and my prognosis is good. Nothing like a kick in the ass to get you back on board a more healthy lifestyle. I was recommended to go to a “survival coach” appointment with Kaiser. I was told they would talk to me about lifestyle changes that would amend my other treatments. So, I found myself in the office at the appointment.(July 19th 2019). I met one on one with Dr. Earnie Bodai and a Nutritionist. He went through my prognosis, not just for Cancer but heart disease, stroke and diabetes. He gave me statistics, and suggestions, and told me I was much more likely to die from other things before I died from breast cancer. He said I would most benefit from eating a Whole Food Plant Based diet. He gave me the research to support it. He handed me over to the nutritionist who filled me in on the details. I had heard about this type of lifestyle before, but didn’t think I could follow it. Nothing like Cancer and a convincing bunch of information to make change easier! I switched to the WFPB diet imdeiately. Thats been just 2 months now. I have done a ton of research to back up what he told me. I ate a ton of food. I didn’t count calories. I traveled for two weeks over seas and managed to stay on plan. I watched ‘forks over knifes’ and ‘What the health’, I went and had labs done after following the plan for a month. My labs came back drastically better… in just one month. I had been a vegan before the labs, but the new small changes in my diet made a HUGE difference. My glucose dropped from 123 to 108… and should continue to drop as time goes by. My total cholesterol dropped 47 points. In one month of eating this way. I have been trying to control my cholesterol for years by other dietary changes. My LDL dropped from 175 to 139…. And yes, at almost two months on plan, eating so much delicious food, I have lost 15 pounds. Just saying. Im doing this with my older sleeve. Its working well. I don’t think I could have done this when my sleeve was newer, as you have to really EAT to have this plan work. I told my nutritionist that I had the sleeve and wondered if I could eat the TWO pounds of veg a day the plan recommended… She said “Start Eating, Eat often if necessary, Don’t worry about protein, your health will improve.” Thats what I have been doing and it works. If any of you out there are at the point where you can eat a lot more than early on in the sleeve process, this plan may work for you too. I am not a DR.. Do your research. I looked up my Survival Dr, Earnie Bodai on line, he said he had some medical papers published on breast cancer and diet, almong other topics, and found out the man is more than just a Dr. He is the Dr. that single handedly got the Breast Cancer stamp approved in the United States and now its being approved by other countries as well. He may well have saved hundreds of thousands of peoples lives through his many good works. I trust his research and recommendations to me. Here is his story if you are interested. https://youtu.be/KlToZUJg4kg Here is the plan I am following now. There are many others that are similar out there. Just look up Whole Food Plant Based diet. The success stories are legion. http://www.kphealthyme.com/Healthy-Eating-Active-Living-Programs/Education-libraries/Plant-Based-Diet.aspx

    Urine Screening - Smoking

I'm glad to know that the struggle is real for not just myself but for others as well. I had my EDG done on 9/17/19 and I was told that I have to quit smoking in order to get my sleeve done. This going to be a serious journey but I know it's worth it because I'm worth it. Quick question, anybody have some suggestions on how to quit smoking?

    September 2019 🍂🍁

I wish you luck. I had my surgery 9/17/19 @ 8am and was home by 9/18/19 @230pm. I didn't have any troubles with any pain. I'm getting down about 80 ounces of water a day and my three protein shakes. I usually eat 1/4 a cup of cottage cheese to but that fills me up. Feels like a Thanksgiving dinner full! I have only used children's Tylenol for the pain. I have not even used that for two days now. I was up and out of my bed about three hours after my surgery passing gas. We went for about 12 walks the day I was there. It helps with gas pain a lot! They also gave me chewable gas x which I keep on me now but have not had to use it beside the day I got out of the hospital. I was exhausted because I could not sleep in the hospital at all. Lol. Good luck! Sent from my ONEPLUS A5010 using BariatricPal mobile app

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Great news! I hope to be able to enter maintenance by the end of October. I’ve got 10-15 pounds left. I’ve been “stuck” between 163-161 for the last 10 days, which is frustrating, but my body seems to do this to me about every 10 pounds so I’m used to it. Yesterday I participated in goat yoga with my daughter and one of her best friends and it was amazing to be willing and ABLE to do something like that. For the first time in a very very long time I don’t hate my body, or my choices, or the dialogue going on repeat in my head. I’m still not “finished” or “there” or “at goal”, but I’m damned close and close feels pretty nice.

    OOTD

Yeah their lil hooves were a bit rough. And yeah.... that’s what you think it is behind me. I got lucky. Didn’t get either pooped or peed on and I was smart enough to bring towels that went straight into the trash can when we were done. The greatest thing about yesterday is that I FINALLY have the confidence and energy and ability to participate in an event like this. And I’m still 10-15 pounds from goal and it’s okay that I’m not “finished” or “there” yet, ya know? Went with my daughter and one of her friends and the 3 of us had a blast. My daughters friend hadn’t seen me since the end of last year and the shock on her face was priceless. Yeah, so it’s not a glamorous or sexy OOTD, but it’s part of everyday life now and that’s what I’m enjoying celebrating as much as anything else anymore.
