I lost 20 lbs during my first 2 weeks on the pre-surgery diet. I lost another 30 lbs over the next 2.5 weeks. I stalled a bit (scale-wise) but have since lost another 5 lbs and I'm 6 weeks out now. I started at 375, surgery weight was 355... I'm down around 320 now. It's PERCENT to consider not POUNDS. In my first six weeks basically I lost 13% of my total body weight, or about 25% of my "excess" weight. The woman at your FI's work might have also lost 25% of her excess weight in the first couple weeks but she started out with less to lose.... Does that make sense? You are on liquids and 9 days post op - there's basically no way to gain or maintain weight like that (I mean unless you drank 10+ shakes a day, gross).... So YES weight loss right now seems rapid. But once you get back to food, your body will readjust into a more comfortable pace. Weight loss is NOT a straight line, so even tho it seems dramatic now, it'll ease up and your SHAPE will change even if the scale pauses a little. --Em

    Here we go again

@@leag78 Hang in there---MANY of us have crazy stories like that, here's a synopsis of mine: --Hubby's work policy has specifically excluded WLS for at least 10 years --Last fall (early Oct), I looked into purchasing a policy for just me on the Affordable Care Marketplace ("Obamacare") --I'm in AZ, and all Marketplace policies must cover WLS -- not a well-known fact. I think it's 23 states ACA policies must cover WLS. Who knew? A fluke I found out... --Found a policy thru BCBS of AZ that costs about $600/month, but we save about $200/month by not included me on hubby's work policy. Expensive, kind of, but $3500 out of pocket max, after that, all is 100% covered. --Waited for open enrollment; purchased policy --BCBS sent me bariatric guidelines -- said 8-week pre-op diet; covers band, sleeve or bypass --Surgeon's office said have to do 6-month dr-supervised diet. Went round and round w/them since BCBS told me 8-week diet, not 6 months. --Yada, yada, yada -- finally, BCBS told me that they accidentally gave me the wrong guidelines. --UGH UGH UGH --'Real' guidelines say 6-month dr-supervised diet (which I'd done elsewhere, so that was ok for me), but only cover band and bypass, exclude sleeve. I have no idea why. --I get everything set up w/surgeon's office, have them change my file from wanting sleeve to bypass. They confirmed they had done that so when submitted to BCBS, it would say bypass since they don't cover sleeve on my policy. --Surgeon submits paperwork, I get call that my sleeve is approved. Yes, sleeve. --Dead silence on my part, then I ask 'so they now cover sleeve on my policy?" --Surgeon's office: "yes, they've specifically approved sleeve." I said, BUT IT'S NOT COVERED. --Surgeon's office checks w/BCBS again and lo and behold, sleeve is not covered. they were extremely apologetic, but I could have had sleeve surgery and they could have said 'oops', you're not covered for that!!!! --Plus, my surgeon's office had confirmed they'd changed my file to say bypass, but they obviously hadn't, and submitted me for sleeve (mistake) which BCBS approved (mistake) --Bottom line: Bypass surgery scheduled this Friday, day after tomorrow --Other bottom line: YOU have to be in charge of everything and know what's covered, what's not, get it all in writing, and triple-check EVERYTHING. Not to discourage you AT ALL, just offering advice. HANG IN THERE and keep your eye on the prize! Feel so very fortunate to have bypass covered, but what a huge hassle!!! I keep a spreadsheet of "to do's" and who I spoke with, etc. Names, dates, etc.
  3. I'm newly banded - surgery date was 9/28, at the time of surgery my doctor usually puts in 3CC's so you feel restriction right away - I had my first fill on 10/20 and when they checked how many CCs I had and he put in 4 at the time of sugery - so with my first fill I'm up to 5... but i still feel hungry between meals and I'm sure its hungry not just head hungry because my stomach growls... I drink all of my liquids a day and eat my protein etc, but I think that I might need another fill already...is this possible so soon? I know everyone is different, But how many fills did it take you to feel restricted? How many CC's?

    Jeans Sizes

I think if clothing is sized 9, 11, 13 it is more a junior size and I find that they fit a little smaller. Sizes 10, 12, 14 are more misses or women's sizing and would then be larger. So your size 11's are more like a 10 so if you had a size 12 I bet the would fit perfect!!
  5. Don’t weigh yourself for at least a week after surgery - it is often higher (5-10 pounds) than your pre-surgery weight because of the reasons listed above. Even if you can drink liquids easily, don’t let that fool you. First, your stomach is extremely scarred and healing, so it probably can’t tell you that you are overdoing it. Second, just because you can drink more, don’t. There’s a reason why we are given strict limits - it’s not only for our healing stomachs, but to get used to constantly measure/weigh our food so that we stay on track. My sleeve failed for that reason (I had my revision on 3/3) so I’m being extra careful now.
  6. Hey March 3rd group. Here's a quick update: I'm still fatigued from doing nothing. I don't meet my 64 oz. goal for hydration, I'm only halfway there. So I started with the popsicles this week to help me. I take the Prilosec and the bariatric multivitamins eveyday, without issue now. I don't like the taste, but I will manage. 3/6 incisions have shed the skin glue naturally and looks amazing. Going to start using Mederma and vitamin e oil next week. They itch like hell though and are still a little bit tender. Pooping is not my friend, I'm taking the meds to assist me. I've only went once over this past weekend. I will take the Miralx to aide my body if needed. I want to chew and now... I have to fight this head hunger like everyone else. I'm hungry sometimes, but I will drink a shake or one of my allowed items from the Full liquid diet. Still want a waffle and Turkey bacon or some cashews. I'm down exactly 10 pounds from surgery last week. Sleep is difficult, I'm uncomfortable most nights and I want to go sleep during regular sleeping hours, I can't. I need a little more rest than normal. I finally put on a bra today and full lounge wear.
  7. No one knows about this surgery. I did tell a couple of people about my first surgery back in 2017 just in case something happened to me, but none of them live in Japan. For this surgery I told no one. Luckily I'm on university holidays (which will now be extended until May, due to Covid-19) so I haven't had to miss work for any reason. Most people, including my students, won't have seen me for 3+ months by the time school starts again, so I'm sure people will notice some of the weight loss by then. But since I've done this before, and was very focused on my diet, I think most people will assume that that's what happened again this time.
  8. Hello surgery buddies! I like that we can share our experiences with each other. I’m thinking of you all and hoping you all get better in your recoveries! I got in quite a bit of walking yesterday and that makes me happy! I’m doing well on liquids and I actually had a tiny bit of butternut squash soup last night and it was amazing! I was not discreet about my surgery. All my close work peeps and friends and family know. At first, I got some negative feedback like “well I’ve heard so and so had a bad experience...” blah blah blah but I was like look this is my body and I’m excited for this change! After that, they settled down and started supporting me. I finally got my Bariatric fusion multivitamin with 45mg of Iron yesterday from Amazon and I have felt good the past two days from taking it. I’m down 10 pounds today and 36 pounds altogether with pre-op weight loss. I started about two months before surgery eating less. I was only having one meal a day and ensure max protein twice daily. I’d have a banana or cottage cheese when I felt hungry in between. I still had a rough go on the pre-op liquid diet tho, but thank Goodness that part is over! I hope you all have a great weekend! Hugs

    WLS with five kids

I'm mom to four. My oldest is 17 and my youngest is 10. I really want to be around long enough to see my future grandkids! I want to be able to do everything I can with the family and be more invested in their lives. Wls is for me but they have been my motivating factor! My entire family is very fit. All of the kids play competitive sports. The older two are in incredible shape and swim, run, and life weights. They coach me in the gym. All 4 keep me honest. They have been with me every single step of the journey from when I first started thinking about this 5 years ago. When I was four days post op and had my "what have I done??'!!" moment, they were there. They all exercise with me and they have all learned to cook low carb dinners . The biggest change has probably been with my teenage daughter. She's seen not only the difficult decision I made but the work it took to get here. She sees a strong mom who took steps to get healthy. It deepened our already strong relationship in many ways! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Feeling lost

Thank you for those encouraging words. I'm 19 days post op and still having pain and overwhelming weakness. I can only walk for 4 minutes and then I fall asleep with exhaustion! THIS makes me very discouraged because I feel that I should be able to do more. Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app

    100 lbs

Haven't replied in a long time and I don't have any pictures yet that I can post but had my surgery April 10, 2013 over the last year I have lost 132 lbs. I have been through the good comments and the negative ones. I used to tell people I had gastric bypass surgery now I just tell them when asked that I made a life change. I tell them when asked what kind of diet am I on, a meal replacement for breakfast with 2 meals of meat and vegetables, fruit and protein bars as my between meals snacks. Am I perfect, no I have eaten somethings over the year that I knew better but what I managed to do was keep these cravings under control by willpower that i never had before surgery. I have been termed as not diabetic any longer no shots, or pills. Colesterol is great all my labs are good to perfect. Taking less than half of the medications that I was previously on. My surgeon commented to keep up the good work.

    Feeling lost

10/17/2017 was surgery date. In 2003 had original Rouen-y. Kept it off year last incisional hernia due to open procedure. About 2 years ago someone who meant the world to me died out of the. I went into deep depression. Stopped exercising (I did 5 miles a day 6 days a week). I had control of protein and diet. So I gained all weight loss plus an additional 30 pounds. Three months ago started having extreme nausea and vomiting. GI doctor found a large hiatal hernia. Called my old surgeon since in different state and was advised to have hernia repaired by a bariatric surgeon. Found wonderful doctor who said he’d fix the hernia but that my pouch had spread to almost 3 times it should be. So with a great deal of hesitation I had both procedures on same day. I’m was sent home on day 2. Am in pain and exhausted constantly I can’t seem to keep broth down but fine with shakes and water. I was unable to crush my meds because they were so vile I threw them up every time I tried. So I slowly swallow a pill st a time. I guess the gist of this since it’s been 12 years are these symptom and experiences common after bypass. Must note my doctor told me this surgery was one of his most difficult ever because he had to cut out massive amounts of scar tissue and cut up some of the mesh that was placed during incional hernia repair
  15. I was sleeved on 1/19 I have started having panic/aniexty attacks worry about everything! It's like it just hit me that I had most of my stomach cut off. I knew that going in but it's like I "really" didn't know! Every pain I have I worry that I have ruined/altered my life forever for vanity! Even though health issues were the underlying reason for it! I am in tears tonight! I am in just severe freak out mode!
  16. Boy, where to begin. I would start with a all time favorite; matching bras and panties. Fredricks of hollywood is a wonderful store, but everything on the manequinns always look better on them than me :blushing: Then of course, I just want to be able to shop off the rack for a change. I actually hate shopping because everything I like is never in my size. I want to wear some fitted jeans with a fitted top that doesn't have lg rolls busting thru. And of course, I want to wear a gorgeous wedding gown, with all the bells and whistles and take pictures for the first time with a smile in 10 yrs. Mind you, I've been married for 14 yrs., but hate to see myself in those photos. I was 217lbs at the time. Not my dream photo.

The One Time I Follow The Rules

I agree. My surgeon doesn't have me taking any B12 accept for what is in my multi. Maybe if my first round of blood work comes back bad they will do something- but I'm excited to see what info there is for sleeve patients in 5-10 years.
  18. In 10 days I will have my surgery and my new chance begins.

Tell Me About Your New Clothes

So I cleaned out my garage today. Found 4 60Litre tote bins full of clothes that I have purchased over the years that either got too tight or were bought in smaller sizes in hopes that some diet at some time would work. Didn't realize how much clothes I had! So for now I'm going to stick with those. I am going to allow myself a certain $$ amount per month once I reach 199lbs (currently 248). I feel like the clothes I have will fit me until then. I won't be buying a new coat or boots this winter. I have pea coats from 3-4 years ago that we're too snug...but I remember I was about 220lbs when I bought them a few years back. Boots will be my great next year:) I hope to be at goal by next October goal being 130-140 lbs so far I have a size 10 dress I'm hoping will fit me in the spring/summer. My fiancé and I need to get some engagement pics done!!

4 Weeks And Only 20 Pounds

My surgeon said to expect 15 pounds the first month and then 10 pounds each month after that. I know all surgeons are different. Bit Renee this is a tool not magic. It's a process that we have Togo through. Don't be so hard on your self. 20 pounds is amazing. Really think about that and it's 20 you will never see again. Take it one day at a time. Chin up.
  21. Thank you everyone...I appreciate your responses. Only 10 days to go!! I am praying constantly and know that God paved the path ahead of me. I love that there are so many people that are in so many different places and we can all come together and share w/each other.... may we all be on the loosers bench <3
  22. Good will for me. Right now depending on the brand I am either a size 10 or 12 - although most 12s are loose. Wearing loose pants with my extra lower belly skin does not look so good, so I have to make sure things fit. I really do have to complain about dress designers that make dress based a A or B cups. A 10 fits in the waist, but I need a 14 for my size C bust.
  23. Hello Everyone! I am excited to be posting here...I lurk often but decided to get in here and ask my questions. I was banded 5 1/2 years ago. I was very successful and lost almost 100 lbs in about 10 months. I am sad to say that I am back at my pre-surgery weight today. I had many problems with acid reflux and had most of the saline let out of the band about 4 years ago and the rest is history. After much sadness and thought...I am 100% ready to get back on track and try again. I have an appointment on Tuesday for a fill. I am looking for some tips on how to get back on track. Does anyone have any tips for my fills...it has been so long. Acid reflux tips? Or has anyone been in my boat....lost a bunch, gained it back, then got back on track? Thanks everyone for your support. I am ready to do this!
  24. I'm new to these boards and am just starting paperwork for lap-banding. I don't know how it will go with insurance approvals and what not. I'm a short girl 4'10" and weighed in on first visit at 172 BMI of 35.9. I come from a family of heavyweights. My dad had gastric bypass 5 years ago, and my baby sister is needing some medical surgery for weight loss as she's now tipping scales at about 300 lbs. I was told by a doctor, several times, that the dieting I have been doing the last five years has staved off the 250 pound girl in to the 160-170 pound girl I maintain well. I am afraid if I gain any more weight I'll balloon like my sister did. The 170's and beyond are the death trap for us. I tried weight watchers and it never worked, only when I was down to 800 calories a day did I lose... it was sad. I have a bunch of co-morbs; probably sleep apnea as everyone else in my family has it, pre-diabetic, UBER high cholesterol (genetic - average with a good diet is 206 for me was at 265), pretty severe depression and a bad back that my orthopedic said would get better if I could lose weigh. He said about every pound we lose, it's like 5 lbs off your back... Gosh, wouldn't that be lovely? So questions are... Anyone else here have Railroad health benefit coverage through United Health Care? If the 5 year history is overweight and not obese will I be denied given above co morbs? any clue? Why doesn't insurance cover the dietician, but they cover a sleep study? I was told that the doc I am working with has put through people under 35 bmi before... but the co morbs gotta be bad. I've also gotta find a way to lose my 10% weight as is required by my doc before I can have the surgery.... I am at a loss of how to do that minus diuretics and laxitives... Can anyone help? I would be so grateful....
  25. I had my bypass on 7-7-17 & had a complication that led to a revision on 7-19-17. I have been doing well on my post op program outside of another complication(collapsed lungs).Lately, I been talking more about food that I had in the past(good food&bad food). When I saw a pizza hut commercial I saw the cheese&tomato sauce and it kind of perked me up to where I started discussing with my father how I loved cheese pizza with extra tomato sauce. Then later my dad asked me about oatmeal and honey and I was like oh I love oatmeal&honey and that conversation continued on with me telling him that adding butter to oatmeal & even steel oats are the best. Then I sat back in my recliner and just thought about how great oatmeal is. Then peanut butter & jam came up later in the day and I was like oh yes I love it. This has been the theme in the past 2 days. Im not tempted to have them but it is refreshing to talk about them. Is that weird? Has anyone else liked to talk about food they ate in the past? Im sure its just a phase iamready4this
