OasisTerry replied to wendyemitchell's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My doctor also recommended that I wait until I had lost weight after my sleeve to have my umbilical hernia repaired. -
Only 100 pounds!? That's a helluva lot of weight.

I need help - 1 yr out but 6-mos stall and not at goal
Kiba replied to songsmith's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Same issues happened with me, had my metabolism tested, it was INSANELY low, trying to re-educate my body to sustaining a normal lifestyle of 1200 calories but I haven't lost a pound and am constantly active. One of the main issues I've read with this surgery is lots of people lose the weight from the forced healing process of eating SO little -- once your fully healed, you can eat more but your metabolism doesn't understand what happened. -

reallyrosy replied to CowgirlJane's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I resemble this very much though my surgery was 12/5 I was only recently having the same experience with reflux. It comes at the same time I may need to have my thyroid med reduced due to afib. I was due for a blood test in a week or so so went early and am waiting to see the results. I'm down 62# at this point. The weight loss has slowed to a crawl... -
Wishing this second fill jumpstarts my weight loss
Heccat2 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
During my 5 day preop diet, I lost 11 pounds. A week after surgery, I lost 5 pounds. During this time, I got my first fill of 1.5 cc. It's been two weeks and NO weight loss! Today, the doctor added 2.5 cc and now I'm at 4.0 cc. I am praying that with this second fill I would stop being hungry and start losing some weight. -
Hello - Does anybody want to share a one year anniversary story with us? How much weight have you lost and what did you do on your one year anniversary day.

1 year, 3 months post-op and pregnant
mariemadeline posted a topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Hi everyone. I am over 1 year post-op, and I just found out I'm pregnant! I still have not gone to see my gyn or sleeve doc, but I am already having food aversions. How much should I be eating each day? I am currently at ~1200 calories a day and maintaining my weight. I don't want to gain more than 25 lbs during pregnancy. Any advice would be appreciated! -
Way to go ! So nice that somebody acknowledged your weight loss and hard work !! Keep it up !!

For a while I thought why hasn't anyone else said anything about my weight loss, and I even mentioned it to one of the ladies that commented on my weight loss. She stated that everyone is noticing but not everyone is gonna say something, but trust me they notice. I really felt good then. I really feel motivated to keep going, even though I still got a long way to go.

Seriously mourning food :(

Oh my gosh, you sound like you live with us! Diners, Drive In's, and Dives...Man vs Food, No Reservations, Bizarre Foods, Food Paradise, you name it, we watch it. I think the strangest thing I'm doing now is buying stuff for my husband to eat....meaning, if I'm really craving something I can't have, I'll get it for him. It's bizarre. It's almost like eating vicarously through him! I just hope he doesn't gain all I lose! -
@@smg thanks so much. I considered self pay since I wanted to have plastic surgery but after a few consults I realized I wasn't at my ideal weight and my BMI was too high for plastics. I'm def using this community as a tool. It's always great to hear from other people and their experiences. I'm looking forward to each step of the process. I've waited 30 years to get to an ideal weight, I'm sure I can wait another 6 months when did you have your procedure and how are you doing? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I choose Bypass because I need to lose 120+ it is what my surgeon and I decided on based off of my eating my eating habits and wanting to keep the weight off. You can most defiantly has success with both. I've seen it happen with both surgeries! I do agree that you need to talk to your surgeon not really the cardiologist. ShrinkingPeach replied to Damarie's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The best decision you can make is to do something to improve your health. I am one week and one day post op and the only regret I have is that I didn't do it sooner. It is definitely not the easy way out. Those who say that just think the surgery makes you lose the weight. The reality is that it is a tool along with better eating habits, the fact your food volume is severely reduced and you still must exercise. The pre-op diet wasn't that big of a deal for me. I had to do 2 weeks of it and I lost 20 pounds in those 2 weeks so it gave me motivation to get to the finish line of it. Once I got into the routine of it I didn't even eat the freebies like broth! I changed my eating habits at my consult at end of January this year, had surgery May 15th and with all I did lost 48 pounds so far. You will be amazed how well you an do with the tools you are given. Good for you for starting the process again! Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!! -
I was sleeved on Feb 28th this year. I didn't lose a pound on the pre op diet. I have lost 17 lbs so far. I think I'm losing kinda slow, I weight every Saturday but I decided to take a look at the scale... and the weight is the same...????

What's Your Surgery Opinion?
barriej9 replied to RiskyGirl21's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I would sit down with a doctor to make your choice. That is what I did. I was not sure if I even wanted surgery when I first met with my weight-loss doctor. After a few meeting she factor in my age weight and needs and we decided on the sleeve. I went this option because it only messes with one organ not several. You also have less risks of malabsorption and complications. Most places offer seminars that are free and will talk about options and risks. Insurance may also come into play on what you can have as well. -
I am 21 years old and almost 500 pounds. My goal weight is to be 180 pounds one day. I plan on getting surgery soon but I am still trying to choose which one. Based on your experience what is your opinion on which surgery I should use. Give your reasons. Feel free to ask me for any additional information.

Typical day on Preop diet???
misszizka replied to robinbare's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am getting banded next thurs too! I am allowed to eat cream of wheat, yogurt, milk, juice and sf carnation inst bfast for breakfast. Lunch is soup, milk, juice, sf pudding. Dinner is the same. I have snacks of either milk or yogurt in between. After dinner I have a protein shake or carnation inst bfast. I have to be on pre op diet for 2 wks. Thats nice you get to start yours later. I have been doing ok on it, been tired and muscles ache. It gets old, but its better than drinking shakes all day. Good luck! Hopefully you will find out what your diet consists of soon. I have lost about 7 lbs since on pre op diet in 1 wk. You lose weight, but can be exhausted. -
January 2011 sleevers--How are you doing now?
kaycol replied to Foxbins's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello all, My surgery date was January 6, and I am down 53 lbs. I can fit into some size 8 pants, but mostly 10s, and I am wearing a SMALL top! That makes me so happy. I still can't believe this is where I am. The weight loss has definitely slowed down but it is still coming off and that's what counts! Like someone else mentioned, I think it is interesting that we are all basically at the same amount lost after 5 months. -
One Month Since Surgery
Plumpy replied to Amanda131's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW what a great weight loss!! I'm a month out too, but have only lost 6kgs (which is just over 13lbs) but I lost a fair bit before surgery so am actually about halfway to my goal. It fascinates me as well to see how things have changed - the volume of food I could pack in before surgery was pretty piggy really (well I didn't get overweight by having a delicate appetite!) and I'm so happy to be full on a small portion. One egg and I'm stuffed full...... from someone who could eat a 3 egg cheese and vege omelette and be lining up for toast as well! I've never been a fast loser, but at least it seems achievable now without feeling deprived and "on a diet" - roll on (or off!) the next 20kgs -
60lbs is awesome! I had surgery 1/28 and have lost 38lbs and I am very happy! I have not experienced the stalls and have consistantly lost 1 to 2 pounds per week but I have not had the big losses that others have. I am very happy with the slow weight loss and I think we should always be patient because each persons body will lose weight differently, just keep up the good work and you will get to your goal! Good Work!

Optifast
MrsPositive replied to notsochubbybritneyspears's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First of all, I LOVE your name! It made me laugh!!! I did Optifast for 6 months about 2 years ago...lost 90 lbs on that stuff!! LOL! (All gained back of course and then some...thank goodness for the sleeve). Weird thing was that I did not like much of the solid stuff so I mainly did liquids. I got a hand blender and mixed the stuff with other things... Ex: chocolate or Vanilla with a cup of coffee (course now you should use decaf) and a touch of artificial sweetner like stevia. strawberry, I mixed with Diet orange soda (you won't be able to have soda after...so you could try crystal light flavors! YUM!) and some crushed ice. Delicious! I also used some of the International sugar free coffees to mix with Water and their flavors but not sure now if caffeinated or not?? You'd have to check, but together they were better than starbucks. I often used sugar free syrups to add to whatever I was mixing to change it up a bit. Hot vs. Iced etc too. I did NOT like the chicken soup...but the tomato...YUMMY!!!! I truly found Optifast was some of the tastiest diet stuff out there. AND I thought it was the easiest diet I was EVER on. 600 calories a day...no thinking about food choices. If only I could last on it forever....haha! The sleeve will help me keep my weight down though! Goodluck and I wish I still had some for my preop diet that is beginning again since my surgery delay. (PS. Tried Medifast and it was yucky to me in comparison.) Rooting for you!!! Joan -
