    8 Weeks out

This Week is the 8 week mark. I have already had 2 fills almost 3 weeks apart ( just because I had strep) and finally feel some restriction. Not complete restriciton but a more, ecspecially in the morning, I just took 2 bites of Oatmeal and started sliming ( I hate that word). But by tonight after work I will be hungry and able to eat almost anything, Well anything legal and way to much of it. My goal this week is to stay away from carbs, not that I have tons but do find myself reaching for the kids stuff when they have a treat or at work a cracker or chip. I have lost about 25lbs in 8 weeks and I have to say it is the "easiest" 25lb loss ever, Not that it was easy but it seems the band changes what you crave. For the first time in a VERY long time that I am not obsessed with food and junk. I now eat a lot of things I would have never imagined me wanting, Tuna, Turkey Chili, Salad with grilled Chicken. I am very glad that I choose this path, I believe it will for ever change me. I just wish the fear of slipping and erosion was not so intense. I know if this were to happen it could really affect the future of our marriage for even the surgery has taken on a major affect on our fianances. I often feel selfish for making this decision but at the same time think that because of it I have such a greater chance of leting my kids know what a healthy self esteem looks like and that is priceless.

    anxious?

After a 2 year wait my insurance finally approves of this so my journey's started. I've got a few months to go before surgery. I've had the initial appointments, and went to my first support group meeting this week. I understand about the whole anxiety thing when our intake is limited and we don't have food as a crutch any more, but how bad is it? I was feelling better about it before the support group and, although there were lots of success stories, the tales of depression afterward, etc. worry me some. How long does it last? I feel like I won't have too hard of a time dealing w/ the change but am I kidding myself?

    My Menu Blog

Menu Blog I do push the limits of the food budget 1300-1500 calories per day vs. the typical 800-1200 quoted by most doctors. I do this for 4 reasons: 1) I think that they (the doctors) under estimate the amount of protein people need. The higher I keep my protein the better weight comes off. 2) I lift weights and feel I need the extra protein 3) I want to keep my metabolism in as high a gear as I can 4) based on my target weight 190 lbs. I won’t have to make many changes when I get there. Key for my Menu First, one of my key tools is Vitol Egg protein powder. Second is packing all my meal in 8oz plastic containers so I don’t have to guess. Third, we make most of the items below in a big batch on Sunday and uses them during the week. Fourth, sometimes you have to eat out, when I do I stick to fish or soups/stews they are easier to digest. Fifth, I avoid directly adding carbs because they make my hungry between meals. Breakfast (5 am) Option 1: 1 whole egg and 3 egg whites, 1oz low fat cheese and sliced peppers and mushrooms Option 2: 1 Cup Oatmeal with Vitol Egg powder 2 Tablespoons (adds 24Grams of Protein) Option 3: 1Cup fat free yogurt with Vitol Egg powder 2 Tablespoons (adds 24Grams of Protein) Mid-Morning (9 am) Option 1: 1Cup fat free yogurt with Vitol Egg powder 2 Tablespoons (adds 24Grams of Protein) Option 2: 8oz Diced Chicken Salad Option 3: 2 String cheese and 1oz. Almonds Option 4: MuscleMilk Protein Shake Lunch (Noon) Option 1: 1 cup Turkey Chili with 1 oz of Cheese Option 2: 1 cup fat free fried beans with diced, onions, peppers and salsa Option 3: 8oz Diced Chicken or Tuna Salad Pre Work Out Meal Late Afternoon (4 pm) Supplements – Nitric Oxide Drink with Creatine, Gummy Vitamins, Gummy Omegas Option 1: ½ Cup fat free yogurt with Vitol Egg powder 2 Tablespoons (adds 24Grams of Protein) Option 2: 4oz Diced Chicken Salad Option 3: 1 String cheese and 1oz. Almonds Option 4: MuscleMilk Protein Shake Post Work Out Dinner Option 1: 6 oz Ahi Tuna Steak in olive oil and lemon pepper Option 2: 1 cup chipotle chicken crock pot stew with carrots, onion, mushrooms, peppers Option 3: 8oz Chicken Brest Happy Eating

    my first week after surgery

From the album: Alex new life

Has been a week already .
  5. My favorites, Premiere Protein peach and cream, some people think it taste fakey but not me, I think it tastes like the candy circus peanuts, and I loved them critters when I was a little Frustr8. Muscle Milk, strawberry, blueberry Greek yogurt , the strawberry - banana you would hate, I do eat bananas but I didn't like it either, my only other Premiere Protein was the caramel, I can't have chocolate and I feel pretty much about vanilla shakes as you do bananas, who wants thick, white and tasteless.? Adkins are not as good--, sorry I know you were an Adkins baby. DO NOT BUY WALMART EQUATE! They are cheaper, but they taste of over processed evaporated milk, leave a vile aftertaste, poured the remainder in a old pie plate for the outdoor cats and other animals and it sat and soured. A couple soy based I found okay. I just got a box from Bariatric Pal store with other flavors to mix with skim milk, anxious to try the cheesecake, orange creamsicle and their 🍓 strawberry delight. See I am 3 weeks pist, my surgeon swiches many of his Bypassers to stage 3 sooner but Precious Pouch and I am going sliwer, I'm staying level 2 until October 9th at my next surgeon visit. That way she doesn't upchuck, I'm happier and I still keep looking. 18 pounds down since surgery, best weight loss I have had since having a baby. Dropped 25-30 pounds with each one, but pain, muss, fuss and bother to do that!
  6. I know I know. It's been awhile since I've been on here. I've lost 35 lbs since surgery and I feel pretty great. But yesterday and today I'm having left sides pain like under my rib cage an around to my back and around my left incision where my stomach came out of...is this normal? I don't wanna be a baby and call my surgeon. Lol.

    Thinking about getting the surgery!

winnk I would do it again. I am almost 4 mos post op and i have lost 43 lbs. I still eat pretty much what i want. I do try to make healthier meal choices but if i want a cookie for dessert or a snack i will allow myself to have one. Notice i said one and not 5 (that would have been the old me) And i don't do it regularly. i'm sure my weight loss would be faster if i cut out all the carbs but i don't want to feel like i'm on a "diet" because we all know diets don't really work long term. I do try to work out at least 3x a week for at least 1 hour.

    fills?

Just banded on 12/9. I asked my doctor what would tell me if I need a fill or not in the future and he said I may never need a fill. I have read things on these blogs and that didn't seem right to me. Anybody else told that? Also any tips for a new bander that have helped you? I could use any. Grieving the fact that it might be a few weeks before real food. Thanks!

    fills?

There are a FEW people that do well without a fill. Some only need one. I am not that person. I thought I might be until about 4 weeks after surgery when all the swelling suddenly disappeared. I was fine one day and a couple of days later I was famished. Have you made your first fill appt? Some docs say 4 wks post-op is enough. Others say 6 wks. I have even heard of one that makes their patients wait 8 weeks. That would suck! You should be able to go 4-5 hours between meals without hunger, only be able to eat about 1/2 - 1 cup at a setting and be losing 1-2 lbs per week. If any of these things are not happening then you probablly need a fill. Good luck. Keep us posted.
  10. OMG I thought it was just me with the Food Network thing! lol It really does sooth me and ironically, doesn't make me want to eat. My dirty little secret. I'm 11 weeks out and the heartburn has been KILLING me for 2 weeks now.

    Waiting Game

Well I have completed all my classes, had all my tests done and I have been referred to the surgeon, saw the surgeon, and now just waiting on Kaiser to ok the surgery so I can have a date! But the surgeon started me on the 2 week pre op last week while I was leaving his office on Thursday. So I hope that means that I will have a surgery date soon.

    21 Months Out Update!

Just remember that you WILL NOT lose pounds every day. You will have times you will go for a couple weeks without losing pounds. That's OK. You will still be losing body fat and your BMI will still be going down as long as you do protein first, then veggies, then carbs. I went from 54% body fat to 26% body fat. If you can't eat more than 4 oz. of protein, then stop eating! Don't try to stuff yourself and make yourself feel sick or get the slimes. You will succeed if you stick to what your doctor says! You will change your way of eating so much, you will never want to eat like you did before. You will get used to the changes and you will love the results. At first you need to eat less and every two-three hours. Don't forget your tummy is 85% smaller than it was before. You will get into a new routine before you know it and wonder how you ever survived before eating like you did! LOVE my sleeve! I have before and after pics on my profile page but the after was taken in May of 2012. You will love this forum and don't be afraid to ask questions here, because everyone is here for everyone else. I learned so much from these people.
  13. Greetings, I have begun my journey to surgery. I have been approved by my insurance -- gone to some of the necessary appointments - will have some testing done next week. I don't know when I will be scheduled for surgery but it will be happening. I found this website just by chance -- and I want to thank each of you for the valuable information. I know I will be asking questions as I go along and feel comfort in knowing I will get the best answers from each of you. All the best, Anni

Time for 2nd fill...errr maybe not?

restriction is so fickle sometimes... i am more tight in the mornings/afternoons then pretty open by about 2. i am just under my perfect restriction right now and will be going in for another fill after my trip. i say play out the next 1 1/2 weeks, see what happens. keep the appointment and if you continue to have PB issues, re-evaluate how you are eating (chewing enough, slowly, etc...) if that is good, then cancel the fill or tell them when you go and see what they suggest. good luck

    Surgery: October 31

After all these months, I finally have a date. Have been doing liquids for 12 days now. I started a week early like a goofball. Wish me luck. I'm anxious and nervous, but excited to be making progress. Linda

    Tired of Explaining

I feel your pain. I am constantly being ask how much weight have you lost now? Sometimes by a person who ask me the same question 2 days ago. I have just started telling those people I don't know. I don't weigh every day and leave it at that. They usually let it go. It is annoying esp. since I seem to be at a stand still. I think if I were losing 5lbs a week I would probably be more than happy to tell everyone I meet.

    Memorial Day Eats?

How did everyone's eating plans go? I did not have the day off so I didn't go to any picnics or BBQs...I did, however, have a craving for BBQ and stopped by a BBQ restaurant to pick up a to-go meal. Of course, I will be eating it the rest of this week. I am only about 3 weeks out, so maybe I shouldn't even have had this mini-meal at all..I had a grilled chicken leg (no skin), about a teaspoon of sauce, and about three bites each of green beans and baked beans...here is a pic (this is on a saucer so it looks like more than it was)...I was actually surprised I was able to eat that much, and it's kind of scary..I am full, though, from it...what do y'all think?

    Need Help

@dreamingsmall i think @Cynthia119 is expressing sadness/injuries/pain about her car accident. looking for support during this hard time. she can't exercise like she used to in her present condition she is sharing that she is experiencing a stall - we all hate that. presently bummed/depressed not being able to exercise. hopefully her back shots will help her prob. my suggestion in trying to get some movement/exercise, rent a DVD on chair"sitting" exercises. they are helpful, give you some strength and motivation to continue your hard work. worth a try (i did it a few years ago when i broke my femur) you have lost 93 lbs!!! woo hoo, party dance - (you can sit and watch!!) btw - welcome to our large group. we get "smaller" every day.!! feel better soon i believe in you good luck kathy

    Blood Clot

Well, today I went in to get my IVC filter removed (it was placed a week prior to my surgery) and they found a gigantic blood clot "hanging on" to the IVC filter. Sooooooo...yikes. I'm back home and tomorrow I go in to see my surgeon. I guess we'll discuss what to do at that time. I've never had a blood clot so I'm not sure what the next steps will be. I do know that they scared the crap out of me when I asked if I could still do my walking (I was referring to my nightly "exercise" walk) and they told me that it "should" be okay for me to walk to the bathroom, but to try to avoid bending over because the clot could dislodge. *gulp* Yesterday I was zipping around like normal. I guess I'm happy I have the filter because it at least prevented the blood clot from heading to my heart or lungs. So...fingers crossed. I'm self-pay and this is going to cost me a fortune, but I'm still kicking.

    Stomach noises?

Hey I actually haven't been sleeved yet! I am still pre-op, however this is an area of concern for me as it would have a great impact on my life. I hope it stops for you soon, congrats on 2 weeks!
  23. I got whatever I could in chewable or liquid form and crushed the rest for maybe the first 2 or 3 weeks, but as you say, it's awful, (even using applesauce). It wasn't long before I started swallowing. For larger tablets, I'd cut them first and take in several pieces. Smallish capsules (Omeprazole) went down okay whole after a few weeks or weren't that bad in applesauce.
  24. I haven't had the surgery yet, but my sergeon said the liver diet is not required for me. It basically just makes the surgery easier for the Dr because it shrinks the liver in order to have easier access to the stomach. I don't think it will stop you from getting sx by only doing it a week if that's what your Dr reccomended. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App
  25. It does suck.....but it's for your safety. In the grand scheme of things.....you'll look back on these two weeks and laugh. You are about to get so far past your old self that it's not even funny !!!!!
