Anyone starting weight at 200 lbs? Help :)
jenjenp replied to asolanom's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm in the same situation. Losing slow but still losing. Down 30 including pre op diet. I am finally at the point that I'm glad to have done the surgery. I dont enjoy food like I used to. But I guess that's what got me in trouble in the first place. I am 8 1/2 weeks out. I am still nauseous a lot. Hard to drink enough Water. Tastes awful. If i eat anything besides really safe food like yogurt or Soup or shakes. My stomach hurts anyone else? When does it get better? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I was sleeved on Oct. 4th too! I'm able to get all my Protein shakes in plus a yogurt, broth and Water. It takes me over an hour to finish each shake but I get through it. Nice to know there's some sleeve sisters out there! Sent from my HTC6500LVW using the BariatricPal App

meats like chicken that tend to be dry can hard. In addition to Kristen's suggestions, I usually have something to dip it in for added moistness. Plain old yellow mustard is super low cal/low carb. Or I'll take some plain nonfat greek yogurt and add some herbs or spices to it, I've even mixed in a little pesto before. The moistness helps the meat go down and sit a little easier. Don't give up - it takes time to figure out what works for you.

I'm just over three months post op, and I'd asked my nutritionist the same question--should I be eating every two hours, because it's happening no matter how much Protein I manage to eat at a meal. Logically, when you can only eat 1/4 cup of food at a time, of course it won't last long. I'm now up to about 1/2 cup for MEALS--measured protein, a little side of veggies. Her response was that it's okay to have Snacks that are almost (ALMOST) the same size as meals--1/4 cup of protein-based snacks in between meals will not hurt, and it's almost required to get your protein in through the day. cheese, nuts, yogurt, beef jerky--as snacks, they satisfy and add to my protein count. From what she said, I think this levels out around six months--at that point, you can usually expect to eat more at a meal (up to a cup) which will last longer and cut the need for snacks. Of course, every person (and probably every nutritionist) is different, but hopefully this helps. I know if I sit around and think about being hungry, I'll snack on things I shouldn't (post above is spot on) and it won't benefit me at all. Good luck!

Hello all and thanks for responding. It was just a pound gained. And I was told that the grapes should go and that I should eat plain yogurt with my strawberries. I should watch the portions of meat. He also told me that I may not be eating enough throughout the day. So long story short. I have to wait for them to send the paperwork to my insurance company. First two weeks....
Inner Surfer Girl replied to itzbrittaanyx3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first week was Clear Liquids with a couple of exceptions: Water, ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates, Syntrax nectar, premier Protein, ProtiDiet creamy chicken and tomato basil Soups, crystal light, crushed ice, sugar free Popsicles, etc. My second week was full liquids so all of the above plus: GNC lean 25 shakes, Greek yogurt (light and for Greek), v8, etc. My protein target is 100 grams and my Fluid minimum target is 64 oz. I track my food in MyFitnessPal. -
Yes, baby food is a godsend at that stage, that and greek yogurt. Anything to be off liquids is wonderful!!! Good luck 8 weeks post op.

Same here! The protien shakes are now making me nauseous. I was sleeved Oct 3, and now am pretty much having exactly what @@BetterOffRed is having- two shakes (forcing them down and it takes forever) plus a yogurt and strained Soup in the evening. Tonight I had tomato basil....yum!

GP says to do Weight Watchers instead
careya123 replied to careya123's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
It's been a while since I started this thread (can't believe all the response it's gotten!) and I'd like to post my results. I've had good and bad experiences, but overall it's been great. It's now six months after surgery, and I've lost 50# (almost exactly 60% of my excess weight). I'm down to sz 14, my college size, and hoping to get to a 10. However, I'm very comfortable where I am and count the whole experience a success. My co-morbidities are mostly or totally gone. For the first time in years, men look me in the eye or give me the up-and-down glance instead of ignoring my existence. (I have mixed feelings about this, but it is what it is.) I eat small portions because that's all I can eat. I eat Protein at every meal because I get queasy without it. (I don't enjoy many sources of protein, so that's a big deal for me. I tried Atkins or South Beach in the past, and couldn't handle the protein requirements.) Sugar makes me very sick if I eat much of it. Ice cream, one of my biggest weaknesses, made me violently ill after trying a couple of spoonfuls. I did that twice, and it was so awful that I may never try it again. Milk makes me queasy, so that's not a problem any more (I used to drink several glasses a day, adding up to hundreds of calories). Now I eat protein, fruits, vegetables, and nuts. I eat my weight in low-sugar varieties of Greek yogurt every day. Occasionally I drink Diet Coke (bad, I know) or diet A&W, but I'm still not a soda fiend. I snack on fruit, fruit, and more fruit because I still love sugar. No matter what doctors say, though, it's a lot better than processed sugar. I eat salad or grilled vegetables with protein for meals. I still eat sugar too much, even though it makes me sick. When I find myself doing that, I head to the grocery store and stock up on fruit and Fudgsicles. I also eat frozen Chobani strawberry tubes when I'm craving sweets. I take my Vitamins every day. I haven't been exercising, which is my biggest sin right now. But for the first time in my life, my diet is great. Without the surgery forcing me into eating small portions, and making me sick when I don't eat protein, and making me sick when I eat sugar, I wouldn't have been able to do it. Thank you, sleeve! -

Traveling to Vegas and I'm nervous
Bufflehead replied to stephyyy2828's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Skip the potatoes, that's just a boatload of carbs with no protein. Think scrambled eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese. Refried beans if you are eating at a Mexican place.* Try to make sure your hotel room has a mini fridge you can use to store your own food (including protein drinks). If the restaurants where you are going don't offer the foods you need, eat in your room beforehand and just go to restaurants to socialize. Good luck! *note - anything you are planning to order at a restaurant, make sure you try some at home before you head to Vegas. If your sleeve won't tolerate it, you get to have the slimies or the upchucks or the three hours of exhaustion and nausea in the privacy of your own home instead of having to do that in public with a bunch of people staring at you. -
My RNY was on the 19th of September and the Doctor has me crushing all pills until the 19th of October. I can hardly wait to bypass the foul tasting ground up meds. I've been mixing with unsweetened Applesauce or Oikos Triple Zero Yogurt

My RNY Gastric Bypass Surgery
DangerMouse007 replied to DangerMouse007's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I discovered a new diet! It's called The Wisdom Tooth Extraction Diet!! I've had amazing results in just one week post-extraction. I've lost 6 WHOLE POUNDS in 8 days! Ugh...all joking aside, the weight loss I've experienced after my wisdom teeth were removed last week has me wondering if I was really in a stall or maybe just eating too much, if that's such a consideration as gastric bypass patient. After the removal, the first day I was told to just eat cold, liquidy foods. I mainly ate yogurt and Protein smoothies mixed with blended frozen fruit. I was told I could switch to smooth foods on the second day, but I was really in too much pain. I also didn't really have much of an appetite. Even now, 8 days later, I really don't want to eat. I have to force myself to eat. I still feel some discomfort chewing as well especially on the lower right side of my teeth; not really painful, just annoying. I had a couple days where I guess I bit my inner cheek which became swollen and made the whole ordeal even worse. As a result of that chewing discomfort I would end up swallowing my food without chewing it well. This resulted in my feeling fuller way faster than I normally would. Thus I would eat less. So why question the stall? Well, eating much less with no appetite these last few days did result in a 6 pound weight loss. I had been stuck pretty much in the same weight range for two months before the teeth removal. Would I still have lost 6 pounds had I not had the oral surgery? I doubt it. As I do get my appetite back, and ability to chew without discomfort, I'll see if I end up gaining that six pounds back. In the meantime, I'm left to re-evaluate if even the little food I had been eating during my stall was really too much still. -
Not too bad... I've been doing 2 Protein drinks a day a Greek yogurt and a creamed Soup. I've been sip, sip, sipping my Water, but I'm sure I could be getting more in! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G928A using the BariatricPal App

rolosmom7 replied to karine76's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You're not alone. It happens to me with drinks. And can be loud! I didn't do much broth, everything was too salty so I ate a lot of applesauce. I'm having a yogurt now and it's going bubble bubble. I'm 4 weeks out, can't speak to the does it go away part. -

PB2 is the healthier powdered peanut butter, from Walmart, and most stores. Mix with water. Macs Pork Cracklins -- 1/2 oz. has 80 cal., 7 gm. protein, 6 gm. Fat, 280 mg. Sodium. I look for the yogurt that has 8 grams sugar. -

two words , Pork Rinds. all Protein no sugar, no carbs, and be very careful of low-fat yogurt, yikes its all sugar. if you eat Peanut Butter i recommend only the stuff with just peanuts and oil in the ingredients, the stir it up yourself, stuff, or grind it yourself at a fresh market or whole foods type place. -
Air travel post-op?
trekker954 replied to KaiserKid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will be able to travel barring any complications. Make sure you work hard first getting your Water in, then Protein those first two weeks so you can progress to mushies. Actually you may want to just stay on shakes through your trip. Pack up dry Protein Shakes and buy water at the airports and at your destination. You can pack many things to mix with water. Soups, crystal lite, ice tea. Stay hydrated. I've brought yogurt thru tsa and turkey and cheese rollups. I found cheese easy to eat at 3 weeks, not much else. eggs also. I traveled week 4, 5, 6 and am still back to my hectic travel schedule. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
Yeah, I leaned on Protein shakes, yogurt, and cheese pretty hard on that trip. I was cleared to try soft foods by then but mostly kept it safe and stuck with what I knew worked since I didn't want to get sick on my trip. The Blender Bottle and individual packets of Quest Protein Powder were clutch for me. I was in in CDMX which is famous for street tacos as well. On one of my last nights there one of the vendors made me a plate with just the taco filling which I tasted. Apparently it's pretty common - Mexicans watch their carbs too!

Those B'more Organic shakes look awesome...not sure why you'd gain if you're sticking to what you listed for food. Check your yogurt, some of them are loaded with sugar, but even so, you should be losing. Good luck with the weigh in!

@@hats123 thanks for asking. I had my 1 week post op check up today. Doc seems to skip purée stage and told me I can have cottage cheese, egg, soft foods. Just had an egg. Tasted like heaven. I feel like I could go a couple of spoons of cottage cheese now 20 mins later. I'm definitely not one of the people that can't face food sadly. Tomorrow I'm going to try yogurt with Protein Powder and a strawberry blended in. I started at 192lbs. I'm 5'7. 7 down so far. That's entirely up to your surgeon, I would think. But if you're really ONLY eating the things you've said, and you're eating them in the amounts you should, then there's pretty much no way you should be gaining weight. What you need to do is be honest, get an app like MyFitnessPal, track how much you're eating in the app and see what the calories are amounting to. You may be eating healthy things, but in unhealthy amounts. If you're eating full-fat yogurt with fruit filling and all that, it's really high in sugar. Chasing that with a lot of fruit as well, your carbs are possibly very high every day. My pre-op diet was virtually no carbs, everything was sugar-free and non-fat, the focus was 90% on protein intake. I followed it to the letter (and consequently lost about 35 pounds before surgery).
