  1. Hi All, So excited to have found this site! I am 4 days PO and am begining to feel better, was sleeved at Madigan Army Medical Center, Ft Lewis, WA. I was having a weird sensation evertime I drank, kind of like bubbles coming back up but that sensation has passed and now when I drink about 2-3 mins later I get a pain mid-low center chest?? I am taking very small sips. According to my Dr I am able to start full liquids today so I had a few bites of vanilla pudding with some protien powder mixed in, also had about 3 ozs of chocolate slimfast. I am not physically feeling hunger but the smell of food makes me miss it terribly. Anyone have this pain I am talking about?? It passes quickly but just uncomfortable for a minute or so.

    Surgery Cancelled

My surgery date was August 7, 2006 but now it is cancelled.:cry I got a call on Friday morning at 11am stating the doctor was not feeling well. They are gonna try to reschedule my surgery but they don't know when. Maybe August 10 or 11, or maybe August 28, 2006. I am so disappointed. I finally came to turns with the surgery and now this. I am self pay so I have paid the surgeron and just this morning I went and got the cashier's check for the surgery center. Now no surgery date. I have a $9200.00 cashier's check made out to the surgery center and I don't even no when or if I will get to have the surgery. I made all the arrangements for work and now this. I am on call 24 hours a day Monday thur Friday and every 3rd weekend so this has really messed my schedule up. I don't know if I will be able to find some to cover for me because they may have vacations planned. I am also on schedule to be on call the Labor Day Weekend :cry . I will have to wait until Monday to find out when they will be able to do surgery. I know they couldn't help this but I just had everything in place for Mondayk. Plus I have travel plans to Las Vegas on September 28, 2006 and I was hoping to be healed and eating by then:mad: So now I must wait on the surgeon's office to call and let me know if it will be August 10 or 11 or August 28. If it is August 28 I will have to make a decision to have or not to have.
  3. My husband and I are getting the sleeve. My husband is a diabetic and he takes fast acting 10 units 3x and slow acting insulin at bed time and also metformin 1000mgs 2x daily. He weighs 277 and is 26 years old. Has anyone had to take meds like this before surgery and if so are you still on any med after surgery

1 week banded and doing well

It’s my first week banded, I think am doing well I have lost 10 pounds since last Monday the 4 august my band – anniversary and I am happy about it. Tomorrow will be my first day going to the gym since I got banded. Am not expecting to be back to my to my old self before I got banded but I will go and try to exercise for 30 minutes and see how it goes. I am happy so far, I currently have no big pain. Except the fact that my surgeon out my port right underneath my breast so needless to say wearing a bra for now hurt like hell. To honest it’s sometimes hard even at one week after the band I find myself having cravings. Like today I decided I was going to grill a little BBQ for my fiancé. Everything went very well until I started craving hot dogs and hamburger. It just became clear to me at that time that I would struggle all my like with my food addiction and I have to take it day by day. :biggrin2:
  6. Hi everyone - I remember in my pre-op research that ibuprophen was a strict no-no with Gastric Bypass. However, I don't remember what the rules are for us sleeved folks. I know that I had to be off it for 10 days prior to surgery, but now that I'm 2 weeks post-op, can I take it? Thanks for any thoughts.

    Soda

Carbonation is not recommended for those with the band. My understanding is that it can cause the new "pouch" to expand and/or the band to slip. However, I still have not been able to kick the habit - drink soda every day. *cringing* I've been banded 19 mos and did well in the beginning staying away from soda - then old habits creeped back up and caught me! Still working on kicking the habit once and for all. Some banders cannot tolerate carbonation - unfortunately, I can; however, that doesn't mean that my band or pouch is going to be able to tolerate it forever.

    BMI

And with that, I really don't need to say much more... Hahaa!! Anyway, I've said a million times that I'll never be in the healthy range according to my BMI. I really don't plan to lose more than 10 or 15 more Lbs at this point. If that keeps me in "overweight" ... oh well. I know I'm healthier today than I have ever been in my life and I can do more physically than folks 10 years younger than me!!! I'm totally ok with that.
  9. <p>Hi, my name is Gigee and I'm new to lapbandtalk.com. I'm so glad there are so many of us out there. I joined the band on September 14, 2007. Everything went extremely well. I did not have any after surgery pain. My recovery was swift (my husband and boys took great care of me). I went to work a week after the surgery. I could have gone back sooner but I was having so much fun being pampered and spoiled by my hubby and kids. My first post-op doctor visit was on 10/25. I lost a total of 17 1/2 lb. It would have taken me at least 8 weeks to lose that much weight without the band. My first fill is on Tuesday 10/30. I've declared September 14, 2007 my re-birthday. I'm going to Celebrate it every year. I can't wait to watch as the new me emerges.</p> TickerFactory.com <a href="Weight Loss - Diet Ticker"> <img border="0" src="<A href="http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/wGBlODJ/weight.png"></a">http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/wGBlODJ/weight.png"></a>

    Sororities and being stuck

I have lost almost 150 lbs since my surgery in May. However, I still have 10 lbs to goal wrought and can't seem to lose it! Also, I'm in a sorority where all we do is eat and drink. It's really hard to stay on track when my sisters make me feel I have to eat and drink when I'm with them. Also, it frustrates me that I have 10 lbs to goal weight and I want to lose 10 extra on top of that, and people say they I don't need to lose any more weight.

    To All Business Owners

Delarla - you & I could seriously talk!! I ran a thriving, successful business with The Pampered Chef for 10 years. As I'm sure you know, The Pampered Chef is a part of the Direct Sales business just like Slumber Parties. I quit my full-time job to do Pampered Chef full-time & it was the BEST decision I ever made. I moved up to a Senior Sales Director & my team led in Sales & Recruiting for a very long time. I had over 400 in my over-all downline. I was the area trainer & developed a total of 12 Directors under me & I taught them to train their teams. I had several consultants under me who were #1 in the company!! I earned the Top Performance Award several years in a row for Recruiting & Sales & got all the jewelry, prizes & all the fun stuff you told us about at your recent Conference. I've been on every trip you can imagine!! I was making quite a good income too!! Direct Sales is a great way to go & I applaud you for deciding to leave your Paralegal job & take this on. There's lots of work a head of you but it is so worth it!! You'll take a drop in pay the first year, but if you really kick it in gear, you'll make it straight to the top!!!! 6 months ago I retired from The Pampered Chef & gave up my title, BIG pay-check & my large down-line. Everything moved up to my Up-line Director. It was a hard decision to make, & I still miss everything about it. But, I have 3 little kids who desperately needed a mother who was THERE for them. Several people thought I had lost my mind & I've been criticized for my decision, but I knew that no amount of money could take the place of my kids. :phanvan It was the right decision for me!! But boy, do I miss the MONEY!!!! I have helped a lot of people in my area who want help in starting a Direct Sales business. I have lots of tips on managing a team & helping them RECRUIT!! If you are serious about wanting some help, I'd be happy to help you. We can talk about payment!! Maybe you could pay me in products!! WAHOO!! (My husband would love that!!)

    Stupid Carb Question.

I don't really count my carbs. Here's the rule I was taught. One gram of Protein for every ten calories you eat. Divide the rest of the calories you eat into a relatively even number of low glycemic carbs (green veggies) and healthy fats (nuts, avocado). So, for a 600 calorie a day diet, that would mean 60 grams of protein, 28 grams of carbs and 28 grams of fat (approximately, I'm doing the math in my head). For 800 calorie a day diet, it's 80 grams of protein and 38 carbs and 38 fats. With that formula, and eating the right carbs (not starches) you can't go wrong. You will have enough protein but also enough energy to get you through the day. I tend to overshoot the protein by 10% or so. But I have been lifting weights so I need more. Again, this is just the strategy that I follow and it has worked well, there are certainly other ways.

    Prepared for new life?

Every surgery has risks. I Read all the bad outcomes. But thought it was a good choice for me to go ahead with surgery. I worried till I got to the hospital. The Drs and nurses were fabulous. I talked to my anesthesiologist till I don't remember. I woke up and it was done. The first 2 days I had diarrhea. Of course I read that some people have it forever. But just like my info packet said I might have it for 2 days is gone and I'm fine. Everyday gets easier. I wAs mad reading all the posts that people felt great from day 1 after surgery. I was nauseous a lot the first few days. But I'm 12 days out and doing fine. I too wish I did it 10 years ago. But better late than never. Do what your heart tells you. Don't over think it. Just think what life will be like in 3 months. 6 months etc. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Happy Hump Day Hellews!

Hello everyone. I haven't been writing much lately but I do read a lot of your thoughts, feelings, goods and bads. I enjoy keep up with everyone. In one week will be 2 years for me and my life change, The Lap Band!! I love it and it treats me well when I treat it well. Yesterday, I thought I was good and got stuck at lunch. I had cucumber and lump crab meat (both plain). Weird. Over the past year I have been around the same weight but lately up 5-10 pounds. I can not buy me nuts anymore. I eat too many. I also, don't exercise enough. At a breakfast/lunch restaurant in my town the owner had the band 5 years ago and after working from 5am until 3pm every day he walks 5 miles a day up and down hills. He is great, I am not that great at all. My Fitbit says a do 4-5000 steps a day. I feel that is great but my doctor wants 10,000 a day. I have never down that. I belong to many FB groups with WLS as the main topic. One woman is doing her own non surgery plastic surgery. She showed a picture of her bat wings and 6 months later(yesterday) she has wonderful muscles from doing weight lifting. Her stomach she said is getting flatter but she still has thigh skin. She should be a poster woman for all of us that have 'skin issues', me included. She made me want to try weight lifting. Start small with baby steps. I read some where about using the 16oz bottles of water and use them to start. They are less money than weights, just in case you don't like doing this. Everyone have a great day. Enjoy this wonderful summer. Arlene

    Recovery?

Do you have a surgery date yet? You may have read in some of my other posts that I'm not a big fan of goal weights. My surgeon never offered one and I decided even before my surgery that my body would know when it was where it wanted to be. So I just kept following the protocol until my weight stabilized. I believe there are several advantages to this approach. When you have a goal weight in mind, it increases your impatience and frustration with the time it takes to reach your goal. If you don't have a goal weight, you're not on any timeline - you won't know you're there until you're there. Much more conducive to focusing on the all-important lifestyle changes as opposed to some "magic" number. WLS patients often experience a weight regain following their weight loss - commonly referred to as "bounce back". It can be as little as 10-15 pounds or, in some cases, considerably more. There can be a lot of reasons for it but, at least in my experience, if your body is at the weight it wants to be at, there's little or no bounce back. I stabilized at 155 and my weight this morning (13 months later) was 152.8. And that's after increasing my daily calorie goal following the stabilization of my weight. Initially by 300 calories. And most recently I increased it again by an additional 100 calories over what I was targeting during weight loss. Finally, not having a specific goal weight takes at least some of the emphasis off of the number on the scales. That's a big deal. And one of the reasons I always recommend folks who are in the rapid weight loss part of the journey weigh themselves no more often than once a week. When you hit a stall, once every two weeks is even better. No matter what we do, our weight loss is going to fluctuate in response to too many variables to even identify, much less address. Downplaying the number on the scale and focusing your energy instead on staying positive, staying focused on following the protocol as closely to the letter as you possibly can, staying patient and maintaining a food log is a much more rewarding and much less stressful plan. You're gonna love the new you!!

    Help! I Dont Understand!

In your shoes, I would find out what insurance requires--for some, a BMI of 40 with no co-morbidities will do it. At your present weight, how much is a BMI increase of 1.1 going to be? About 10 lbs, I'd guess, maybe less. So you could gain a little more to qualify, or you can self-pay for anywhere from 5-20K. I went to Mexico, myself, with a BMI of 35 and no co-morbidities.

    First emotional breakdown today...

I am not sure if my mood is related to my banding, or just general depression. I was warned about being depressed, but I thought I would be too excited about losing the weight. I was banded 3 weeks ago today-I am down 19 pounds. I am having no real problems with my band and am eating small amounts of pretty much whatever I like. So what's the problem? I am so down in the dumps. I can barely get myself out of bed. I haven't even sent my Christmas cards or finished decorating for the holidays-let alone wrap all of the presents for my family. I can barely force myself to go to work, even though we only have 2 more days until Christmas break. No matter how much I sleep, it's all I want to do. The only thing I can think to do is try to get more protein-I'm not using the powder like everyone recommends. I kicked caffeine before my surgery-so it's not withdrawal. I am just generally sad-apathetic...Is this part of the banding process-part of holiday stress-or a combination of both?

    Lap or open removal?

Hi I just dont have anyone to discuss this with....my life is a nightmare at the moment and I smile, say nothing, help other people stay on their diets...(have a weightloss group that meets at my house...:faint: ) I actually wrote somewhere how I think I have been healed and to cut a long story short,my will and I suppose not the Lords will.....cause all my old symptoms are back in full force and tomorrow is one year after being banded.... I have to go for an endo and have been putting it off...(the dr that sees me is hopping up and down with anxiety about this...) I am terrified that this is it....this stupid band will have to be removed and I am back where I was a year ago..I am so depressed and so sad and I am petrified of having another operation.....I hate how this has turned out for me...Have worked really hard this year to lose weight and to get this band to not make me so sick the whole time....its been a year and I today feel like I did the first time I started having the symptoms that has been making my life a misery...I have chest pain, abdominal pain,heartburn....then just now I sit and read of people saying do I really have a band because I dont feel it....it just seems so unfair and I am really battling with all this at the moment.... I am bouncing ten pounds up and down and have been for the past 5 months...dont have restriction, cant get another fill (pain gets to bad) and just dont know what am I going to do? Well, this is a big whine isnt it?To get to the real reason for this threat....how was your bands removed? Lap or open....I dont even know who will do a removal as I havent seen the guy that did the op in over 10 months, just one of his side kicks.... Anyhow, please tell me how the removal op was...was it worse than the band (which actually was a breeze for me) how long in hospital?how long to recover? Thanks for info and ears....

    VG vs Lapband recovery

Good for you , in no time you will see the benefits and it feels good, I know the pre op diet is hard and the 3 weeks post op diet is also but, in about a month and half I know you'll see about 30lbs gone if you follow the rules. You can do it, I did it. I had surgery 10-03-06 and by chrismass I was 200lbs, Started at 245lbs at my pre op visit before surgery. let me know how great you look about 6-8 weeks after surgery. If you are having any problems and someone personal to talk you though this, you can email me. I will help you. When you feel weak and feel like eating the wrong thing i'll be right here for you. We are a family now though the lapband. I'll give you my phone # as so as you email me. God bless you, happy new year and a happy now you.:clap2: you made a good choose with the band.let me know
  21. We usually spend around $2,000 on Christmas each year, but that includes sponsoring a child for Christmas, and buying Christmas for a nephew who's father is disabled and who's mom works very hard but can not afford gifts. Exchanging gifts with our extended families has been stopped in favor of doing different variations of a white elephant gift exchange. Everyone loves them. Each person buys one gift costing no more than $35, wraps it and puts it under the tree at the annual family gathering. We all draw numbers to see who goes 1st, 2nd, and so on. The first person has to choose a gift and open it, then the next person can either choose from the pile of gifts or steal a gift that has already been opened. When your gift is stolen, you can steal from someone else or pick from the pile. It's a real hoot. Last year we did a variation. Everyone was to bring either a regular gift, or something that no one would possibly want, it could be used, new, handmade, whatever. We lowered the gift cost to $25 and had everyone put $10 in a pot. The person with the worst gift at the end of the game won the pot. It was hilarious because if someone stole the gift you really wanted, then you could try to steal a crappy gift from someone in an attempt to win the pot. I am proud to say that my gift was voted as the absolute worst gift, it was a Colon Cleansing Kit. Some of the other funny ones were an 8 place service of paper plate, cups and napkins, a used toilet brush, a beautiful gift bag, which contained a card which said the gift bag WAS the gift. There were plenty of nice gift too. We had such a great time laughing and trying win crappy gifts.
  22. Hello everyone first off let me introduce myself. My name is Paula I have just recently relocated to New York the Syracuse area. I was banded on Sept 18th 2008. I have lost with the band 57 pds but before that I lost over a 100 on my own. I have 4 beautiful children from ages 19 to 4. I know I know big spread there huh lol. I am married to a wonderful man who has been my biggest fan throughout my journey. So for now I guess that's it. If there is anyone in the Syracuse area who would like to buddy up as a constant support please feel free to contact me, as well as any not in the area. You can never ever have to many friends on this journey!!!!!!
  23. I also will be going to my pre-op appt tomorrow. I don't have that many questions but I did ask before the difference. My Dr told me that really it was a preferance and that sometimes that they use the bigger band for men. Or sometimes for really obese women that would need to lose weight like a man would. For instance. I am 28yrs old, 5'2" and weigh 230. I will be getting a 10 cc band. But for another women who was my age and height but weighs 430 she may get a 15cc band. Good Luck! Keep in touch!

    Surgery 10/5

So.... my surgery date is Friday 10/5. I am nervous! First time getting any kind of surgery or anesthesia. Lost about 15 so far from the pre-op. Sitting at 272 right now. :-( I just want to get it over with so I can stop being anxious!
